I’d sincerely like to know where this rumor originated. No endgame? Is a new story campaign, giant map (and completion), crafting, a new set of dungeons, obtaining legendary weapons, and 3 new areas of the map opening up just not enough for you?
Really, where did this originate?

If you’re sitting around in Lion’s Arch and have run out of things to do then there isn’t enough endgame for you. Different people want different things from GW2 so it’s pretty much a personal decision. If there was more content being released through the LS then of course more people would stay with the game longer.

Some MMOs add raids as the ultimate end game content, so difficult that players don’t get to the finish it before the next release. Raiders still only compose a minority of the MMO population though and non-raiders can exhaust their end game options quite quickly.

I’ve seen bad behavior from the ‘fail train’ in Frostgorge too, not only preventing the living story from being completed but also making fun of the people who want to do it. Anyway this is toxic and needs some resolution, from customer services if not from a patch.

Since the technical change has failed it would be good if some customer service action was taken.

I was in Frostgorge the day before the patch and the people failing the event were a greedy, selfish, arrogant mob. Any reasonable request to finish the event was met with mob humor and derision. Other players couldn’t stop them being selfish brats so they were being selfish brats. I would no sympathy at all for anyone who gets a brief suspension for that behavior.

Dungeons need rework!

As a leveling character no one will allow you into the explorable dungeons because you’re not 80. Its so difficult to find a group, its pointless to try and stand around looking.

Is there any way you can please look at reworking the dungeons to be more friendly for the explorable levels you Actually have posted.

Thanks

People talk about GW2 dungeons as if they are easy because experienced players can speed run them in 10 minutes. A group of new players, without tactics, will find the dungeons particularly hard and will probably give up after a couple of hours. The difference in capability is staggering (and that’s good for PvP). This means however that speed runners want experienced players in their groups and they have no patience to spend more than 30 minutes in a dungeon that usually takes them 10 minutes. Can you really blame them?

So where does that leave you? Most dungeon runs are now speed running. Finding a good, capable, on level, not speed running group is very difficult unless you go with a guild. The best way for you to get into dungeons will be to run the story dungeons until you are level 80 then revisit the explorable dungeons with rare+ quality gear and a full build of traits and skills. Even then, avoid the speed running groups until you are experienced yourself.

  • Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment

The best way to fix these plot holes is to put all the personal story chapters back into the game in the correct order. Most players think the that quality of the story is more important than the way it is packaged into bits. Hacking parts out of the story may be convenient for someone but it is not convenient for the players who are trying to follow it. We hope the design team will realize this too.

How to Devalue Berserker gear without Nerfing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stooperdale.3560

Stooperdale.3560

‘Zerker only’ is a combination of problems
- no defensive balance is required in PvE – full dps provides defense by killing enemies
- the condition cap prevents conditions from being useful in PvE
- this only leaves 3 required stats : power, precision, and ferocity – dire and zerker

The first solution should therefore be a change to the condition cap. This would bring variation in builds with players selecting from four dps stats. This would also bring variety of gear and play style for different classes.

You would still see ‘dps only’ groups but that is a much harder issue to solve. If experienced dungeon runners need vitality/toughness when they are using optimum tactics, optimum builds, and good dodges, what hope is there for beginners?

@Stooperdale: The heir seems to be being protected through obscurity – most people in Tyria don’t even appear to know there IS an heir, including PCs that haven’t played the third chapter as a human or S2E2 to know of the locket. That’s why the identity of the heir is unknown to us, and why we don’t hear of any efforts to protect the heir – the very silence you’re pointing out IS the protection.

Bringing forward a secret heir is the most certain way to bring turmoil to the kingdom. Enemies would dispute the legitimacy of this secret heir and even loyal subjects would have doubts. Any evidence of lineage will be severely weakened by the being hidden then suddenly revealed.

NPCs see right through stealth

“Stealth should, in my mind, break targeting AND any channeled skills.”

Here we go again. Channeled skills have to be compared to instant skills. Instant skills deal all the damage immediately, cannot be interrupted like channeled skills, and leave the owner free to move around, dodge, and use other skills. Channeled skills are strong against aegis, blind, and some other defenses but have a simple counter, an interrupt. However, channeled and instant skills work in exactly the same way when it comes to stealth. The target is only required when the skill starts.

Stealth doesn’t prevent damage from an instant skill. Stealth doesn’t prevent damage from a channeled skill that starts with a valid target. If you want to avoid damage from a channeled skill then don’t use stealth, aegis or blind. Use an interrupt. The game is balanced with this design.

- the heirs are disputed (illegitimate, dishonored, incapable, etc)
- the heirs will not have the same claims as Jennah to Ebonhawke or other regions
- the heir needs confirmation by the nobility and they might not pick the first in line
- a steward will govern as the heir is unfit to do so
- the heir is unsuitable to Jennah so she excludes him/her from court

Is the PC the leader of a guild?

Good question. At the end of Living Story 1 there is talk of Rox, Braham, Marjory and Kasmeer starting a guild and it means Rox cannot join a warband (not sure why since this isn’t a problem for Rytlock). This guild is never mentioned again and never has a name but the player and the rest of the characters sure act like a guild. If there is boss then it is the player character.

Is he no matter the class a enforces or usually the muscle in any attack against well dragon problems?

This is just story telling. The lead character is at the center of every action story. Players accept this as they want action and a lead role.

Is the Fractals thing part of the lore?

Yes. The people in Mistlock Observatory can explain how fractals are part of the mists. Each individual fractal can be distorted from reality however, so even if the Mossman and Bloomhunger existed in Tyria they may have existed in different places and may have existed at different times.

Warrior Utility Signet bug

Stooperdale.3560

There is some sort long standing bug here and it has been reported previously. I’ve repeated it in Lion’s Arch (with no combat interference) but it is intermittent and can’t be reproduced on demand. Essentially a warrior can swap utility skills and the new one immediately goes onto cool down when it should be available for use. The bugged skill can even go on cool down for longer than when it is used normally, and this is because it inherits the cool down time erroneously from a banner used in another utility slot, or something.

No need to call the OP a cheat.

Target nearest enemy

The “Target nearest enemy” function now picks up targets that are behind the character, sometimes at quite a distance. This stops it being fit for purpose as a targeting command since you need eyes in the back of your head to make sense of what it is doing. (Players don’t have eyes in the back of their heads btw).

The fault is mentioned in this post too https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Target-Nearest-Enemy-even-worse-now/first#post4404908.

The game is not bad but the players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stooperdale.3560

Stooperdale.3560

Well, if you are using a Rifle then you are at range and you are not receiving buffs as almost all buffs to party members are only 600 range. This is why people get upset about ranging because it lowers overall group performance for no reason.

You are basically making it harder for everyone with no concern for their experience. Imagine being a melee getting pummeled by a boss while everyone ranges. The play how you want playstyle has to go both ways and everyone has to make sacrifices in order to work together as a group, that is just how groups work.

Also, if you don’t want to be griped out, don’t join someone else’s party. Either make your own or call your guild to help. I am not a hardcore elitist myself, and I do not agree with the way that people behave in this game, but at the same time its simply a fact that when you join a party in this game you are on their terrain.

And its important to understand that other people are in a bad mood all the time because the game is going downhill. They keep trying to cling to what little they have left in the game like some kind of crazed zealot because not only has ANet added nothing else for them to do, but they keep adding more bugs and nonsensical limitations in the few things that they do have left to do in a game that is increasingly being tailored for low-intelligence players with fat wallets.

How do you fight the boss at the end of the grawl fractal without a ranged weapon? I usually pull out my rifle at that point. I thought, but I’m not sure that the DPS of a rifle is a little higher than that of the LB, but the LB gives more utility with blast finishers and a fire field…

The best thing about the longbow on the fire shaman is that you can use two aoe skills behind you into the elementals as you are moving. This allows you much better mobility (even though you should always be looking at the shaman).

I don’t complain to rifle warriors in PUGs but they sure do annoy me! Although people say that nothing else but dps matters in groups there is a need for some control of fights. Rifles offer zero control. Rifle warriors do nothing to control the wolves in the Mossman fight, for example, and if that leaves me to deal with the wolves on my warrior then I’m not impressed.

What's the harm in disabling kicking?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Stooperdale.3560

Players do need to kick or do something similar. I know one player in my old guild who used to have a few beers and fall asleep on the keyboard, quite often. We were quite willing to start a dungeon with him and kick him if he went AWOL, but we’d have been in a worse position without kicks.

At its best, kicking ensures that a group of players can continue the run regardless of the problems of one player. It doesn’t matter if that problem is technical, social, game related, or just falling asleep. It is bad players that turn kicking into a problem.

The argument about leveling speed is misplaced. If you enjoying your leveling it doesn’t matter what speed you go. It is only once leveling becomes a chore with the sole purpose of unlocking skills that the rapidity of leveling becomes important!

Start with excess gold, make the pieces one by one as you collect dragonite and empyreal, and buy in whatever resources you need whenever you are making something. The dragonite and empyreal are likely to be what slows you down if you start with a good reserve of money (and there’s nothing wrong with that). If you waited to get your own silk you will never get anything made. If you don’t have enough money then just wait. Ascended isn’t made on a budget.

Personally I’m not sure why people want them but … I’d suggest putting a hall into each of the major cities that a guild can rent for a couple of hours using guild points, i.e. open an instance to a meeting hall. These temporary guild halls would need very little customization for each guild and very little management on the server. This approach would avoid the need for decoration and housing in GW2. Any other new guild facilities could be linked through a guild hall, such as fast travel to guild events and activities.

(As a former GW1 player, I’m not understanding the lack of expansions for this game, compared to others out there.)

In Asia, each living story chapter is probably sold for gems. So in Asia it doesn’t matter whether the Living Story is an expansion or gem store, it will still bring in similar revenue.

There are many players who want to play an MMO because of the breadth of the game and the diversity. Deliberately restricting that breadth will turn off those players.

My first suggestion would be to limit the scope of the Living Story. It’s trying to be a story about world politics, a story about an adventurers, a story about multiple enemies and allies and nations, and so on. It’s too much and this means all the details are omitted or are just wrong. The Dragon’s Reach pt1 was the worst of LS2 so far and it was because of the massive scope.

The other suggestion would be to look at the conversations involving the player character. It doesn’t feel like the player’s character, it feels like any other character in the game and a player just clicks through a lot of text that they would never choose to say.

Skill level gating, a plausible discussion.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stooperdale.3560

Stooperdale.3560

The old system was fine and should be put back. If skills unlocked too quickly then this was only because the skills unlocked much more quickly at higher levels than at level 1 (wrong scaling).

The learning problem was not the unlocking of the skills but the subtlety of the GW2 weapon skills compared to other MMOs. By this I mean that other MMOs let players mash keys for extra dps whilst skill 1 gives dps effortlessly in GW2 and skills 2-4 offer interrupts, mobility, defense, etc. Skill use needs to be timed to be effective. If a thief mashes infiltrator’s strike as skill #2 then they literally go nowhere and they are not going to learn how to use it without wider game knowledge coming from experience with more skills.

New players should of course have access to 5 weapon skills. Part of the elegance of the game design was the completeness of some weapon sets, giving you all the skills you needed from level 1. Now that’s gone and the weapon sets just do not function properly with less. Who’s want to start a thief only just find yourself standing in front of a centaur in Queensdale stabbing it like a idiot with low health and little armor?

I wouldn’t assume btw that this change was made purely for the benefit of the players. This change may allow different commercial opportunities such as free trials at low levels. There’s no point arguing that the unlocking system is worse than before if the accountants are the ones who demanded the change.

Feature pack 9/9: feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stooperdale.3560

Stooperdale.3560

It seems to me that this feature pack is split in three
- class balancing – always mixed feelings across the player base
- UI improvements – crafting, trading post, guild banks, dungeons – all good
- Leveling process – awful

The leveling process was the least advertised and you can understand why. It offers nothing but unhappiness to the player base. It cuts across the original design and leaves an ugly ill-fitting mess. How could anyone decide that this would improve the game and waste resources on something that alienates the player base? The answer is presumably that accountants have decided this is the way to monetize the game. There is no reason for players to like any design decisions based on monetization.
