…but then again, The Durmond Priory’s whole purpose is pretty much being pedantic.
The word “arcana” comes from Latin and literally means “things shut away”, which makes an episode titled “Hidden Arcana” rather ridiculously redundant. ;-P
You only get 1 mb/s……..
How do you even manage to play this game at all??? I have approximately 7-20 depending on Time Warner’s mood and still experience major lag from time to time.
Lag is more based on ping time than bandwidth. The game isn’t sending all that much data when it’s running.
Yes, I have bad internet; I’m limited to 1 Mb/s DSL.
But even then, the downloads from ArenaNet are far slower then everything else on the internet, only getting about 30-40 Kb/s, so there’s something more going on than just the fact I have DSL.
And even beyond that, the reason I keep complaining is that Arenanet continues to release patches in a way that maximizes the level of inconvenience for people with poor connections. They could easily release in the early morning (so people could download while they’re at work) or late night (so they could download while they sleep), but no, Arenanet insists on doing it mid afternoon so they have to sit their and watch a progress bar during prime playing time.
After four months of no new content, I’m really enjoying the FIVE HOURS I’ve spent so far downloading the new client.
Because I’m sure none of this could possibly have been pushed out anytime over those last four months.
My Charr thinks that in many ways the Charr are still the slaves of the Titans. Yes we slew them and took back control over ourselves, but what have we done with the control? We’re still the marauding army the Titans molded us into, not what we were meant to be.
We’ve reclaimed our homeland, now is the time to reclaim our true selves. The treaty with the humans is the first step we’ve taken in more than 200 years toward that goal.
If you try to look at the results for the just completed Fall 2014 WvW Tournament, the leaderboards are all messed up. The non-tournament leaderboard appears to still be working though.
TWO weeks? Awwwww….. =/
Only one week to go and no communication on what the players can expect?
That is a good idea, thanks.
End of a long day of work. Just want to unwind working on my Triple Trouble achievements. Get home an hour before the TTS run, plenty of time…
…Except it’s not because I have to wait 50 minutes downloading a hundred megs of gemstore doodads before I can play.
It would be nice if patches were made available in the early morning so people could download them while they’re at work instead of having to sit around in the evening.
If there isn’t anything else they can kill they turn on each other. This species is dangerous, do not approach and exterminate when possible.
This could just as easily be said about humans. Part of the reason they’re going extinct is because of the constant infighting between the different branches of humanity. There’s a reason the game is called “Guild Wars” and not “Human Love Fest”.
The charr weren’t “tricked” and they don’t think the Searing was a mistake – talk to the charr in Iron Marches near the Searing Cauldron still there, and they will explain that while the thing needs to be destroyed, it is not for its past use but for the potential dangers to themselves it holds. And they certainly weren’t tricked by Khilbron – the charr likely never even met the vizier.
While true that the charr did not blow up Orr (nor was it “humans” who were tricked into it – it was just one man, Khilbron, who did so knowingly after being converted to the faith of Abaddon), they did have the full intention of causing another Searing in Orr, they just didn’t reach Arah yet, where it seems they were going to set off the Searing at. You can find a total of at least 3 Searing Cauldrons in the Straits of Devastation, between and aroud the Vizier’s Tower and Broken Spit – a fourth one was recovered from the temple of Dwayna, moved there by the risen.
And the charr were not tricked into attacking Orr, Ascalon, and Kryta. They did so intentionally, though directed by the titans – thus the force behind them: Abaddon – but they would have attacked Ascalon regardless, as they had been doing for over a thousand years.
And Adelbern was not tricked into causing the Foefire – he did it fully knowing the consequences, but he was also demented, fallen into madness by the death of his son, the loss of his nation (which the charr burned then conquered), and his hatred for Krytans and charr alike.
Shiro being tricked is questionable, but like Khilbron he was converted by Abaddon’s agents into following the fallen god. His actions do not reflect humanity at a whole. Otherwise, it’d be like comparing the Flame Legion’s actions or the Shaman Caste’s actions reflecting the actions of the charr on a whole. Such as banning all females from fighting just because of a single female warrior and her underground movement.
Yeah the nerve of those Charr wanting their home land back. Who do they think they are living on the humans’ land for hundreds of years before the humans even showed up in Tyria?
We already have an unacceptable, monsterous and vile race that only exists to be hated and, Lyssa willing, eventually destroyed – the Charr.
I’ll be the first Charr to admit the Searing was a big mistake. But it’s not our fault; we got tricked into blowing up Ascalon by Vizier Khilbron—a human. Of course, he also tricked you all into blowing up Orr all on your own, so I guess you need to wipe yourselves out too.
And of course, we all learned our lesson and have not blown up any other continents. Meanwhile you idiots have fallen for the same trick on THREE times, having also been tricked into blowing up the Jade Sea (Shiro) and Ascalon (Adelbern).
So if we’re really going to talk about species that need to be put down, humans are the ones who obediently fall in line every time a genocidal nut comes along.
The traits are a different issue, dealing with opportunity costs. By changing the way the players obtain their traits, hunting for all of them, the opportunity costs are tipping towards cash purchase rather than in game play. This is a major departure from one of the base goals of this game, i.e. no one should have to do unnecessary grind to access content.
With all due respect, I think you’re engaging in a psychologist’s fallacy here (if mental state X would lead to action Y, then any observation of action Y proves the actor is in mental state X even if there are other mental states that would also lead to action Y).
The trait system could just as easily been seen as an attempt to implement player demands that ended up not working out well. Namely, since launch there was a big block of players expressing nostalgia for the “skill capture” system in GW1. The new trait system essentially is that system.
I also note it’s kind of weird to describe being expected to play the game as an opportunity cost in terms of game design.
I’ve noticed that several of the karma vendors that used to sell unique weapon recipes and were moved in the patch (e.g. Blopp in Metrica Province or Bjarni in Wayfarer Foothills) are no longer selling them. Are these recipes now removed from the game?
Go have a look. I did it yesterday. Rabbit holes, dodging and all.
I did, the rabbit food bundles are gone.
Its been moved down off the mountain to the path underneath it.
And don’t ask me why. kittens me to tears they moved it, and moved a few other things around in Wayfarer as well.
The heart is still there, but the food carrying part of the event is gone, because it involved both bundles and dodging, both of which apparently cause people to completely freak out.
One of my favorite events in the whole game was in the Norn starting area, where was this crazy Norn who wanted to start a shrine to the rabbit spirit and needed you to bring him rabbit food. When you picked up the food bags, the rabbits would swarm you and absolutely kick the kitten out of you.
There was something about the sheer ridiculousness of the whole that I found hilarious, and even two years later I think about it every so often and get a little smile.
Sadly this event is gone, because apparently it’s just too awesome for a new player to handle without their apparently lobotomized brains melting and leaking out their ears.
Apparently arenanet received an overwhelming amount of complaints about the personal story feeling “disconnected”. That’s why they decided to remove the “fear”-part because it actually involved zooming out of the world map to find the next green star…this can be quite overwhelming for people who just dinged level 60.
The problem is that the fear arcs are necessary to understand what the kitten is going on during the Battle of Fort Trinity. Why have the gates been sabotaged? What’s that blue orb? Where did it come from? Wait, we suddenly have a risen repelling fence? When did that happen? Who’s this Tonn guy and why is everyone making such a big deal about his explosives?
If they think there was a problem with the story being disconnected before, I don’t see how throwing random bits of story at us without any sort of context makes it better.
The accounting of the personal story in my characters story log doesn’t match anything close to what happened to me as I was playing through it.
The “facing your greatest fear” arc has mysteriously vanished, the cleansing of Orr occurs at the end of the “Forming the Pact” segment of the story, and all that occurs before “Victory or Death” now.
Is this a bug, or is this how an actual play through as a new character goes? Because it makes no sense narratively. How can we cleanse Orr before the Pact invades it? If we battle the sovereign eye first, who tells us all about the eyes and their nature, why are Traehearne and I still acting like it’s a big mystery when we meet one later?
Let me first say that I love the overall concept of the trading post working more like a stock market than an auction house. I find it far more convenient than traditional MMO interfaces.
That said, there is one additional bit of information that would normally be available on a stock market that is not available on the TP: in addition to showing the current highest buy bids and lowest sell offers, the TP should also show the price that the last successful sale occurred at.
Right now if there is a huge gap between the buy and sell prices, there’s no way to tell which of the two offers is closer to the most recent market activity.
Undiscovered MF recipes: has anyone ever tried throwing four precursors into the MF? Has anyone tried throwing a legendary in?
It’s actually easy once you know the secret to winning: when you set the Skritt Thieves on fire, they drop the supplies they’re carrying.
It amazes me how many people don’t seem to understand the difference between theft and confiscation.
The only difference between theft and confiscation is that the people confiscating things claim there is a difference.
So now I’m wondering if it’s possible the Pale Tree sacrificed herself to make the other leaders see the threat and unite? That she arranged the summit and then somehow goaded Mordremoth into sending another champion to attack her at the same time?
There are certainly characters in GW2 who would do something like that (and people in real life too) if they thought it would help.
In fact one of them was Glint. If you read Edge of Destiny, Glint went into the fight against Kralkatorik knowing she would die, but willingly doing so to give the other races a chance.
She doesn’t want to give her discovery away so we can save the world!
How was taking Taimi’s invention away necessary to save the world?
She’s terrified because in her immaturity and selfishness she ran off on her own in hostile territory without any thought to her own safety or the inconvenience chasing after her would cause important people with better things to do who now have to do the same.
She ran off because the people who promised to protector her, for some inexplicable reason, were suddenly siding with the people she needed to be protected from.
Seriously, people are dieing, Mordremoth is destroying forts and threatening the whole world. We just did a field trip through the desert – risking out lives – because Taimi doesn’t want to hand over her device?
So we try to convince her to turn the device over voluntarily. But we also make it clear that until she does, anyone who thinks they can take it by force will have to go through us first.
I’m sure the asura that created the waypoints, that maintain them every day, that construct them or find ways to make them more efficient, I’m sure they could have solved this problem.
You’d think they could. But none of them did, so either they couldn’t or they wouldn’t. So whether it is actually ability or just vision and will that allowed Taimi to do so, she has something no other Asura appears to have.
Did anyone else notice that Caithe was there for the start of the summit, but mysteriously disappeared right before the shadow dragon showed up? After it left, she was nowhere to be found.
The entire time I did that mission I was like “This guy could really use a fireball to the crotch”
I wanted a ferocity response along the lines of “Your HEAD will be attending the summit. If you want it to still be attached to the rest of you, I suggest you start walking it over there right NOW.”
I’m convinced the Knut Whitebear at the summit was an imposter. He didn’t say “Indeed!” once the whole time!
You know what really makes me feel heroic? Helping people rob small, terrified, crippled children.
IIRC, in GW1’s version of Dry Top, there was a stump from what must have been a ridiculously large tree that all the centaurs were defending.
If Scarlet’s leyline map is accurate ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/The-most-mysterious-drawing-in-Scarlet-s-Lair ), then the vines are following some leylines, but not others, which makes me think Mordremoth is specifically targeting those two sites, rather than just ending up there because that’s where the leylines go.
There’s two lines of tendrils extending out from Maguma. One appears to be heading toward the Chaos Crystal Cavern, which we know from in game content had something to do with the construction of the Thaumanova Reactor. The other appears to be heading toward the Infinity Coil Reactor, which we know from in game content is an upgraded version of the Thaumanova Reactor.
Mordremoth may have some plan that requires both of them.
The blue orb
It blocks all undead. Don’t ask where it came from, even though it changed the tide of the war. Did Bubbles make this thing? What are we doing with the orb right now?
The Krait were using it to keep the Risen away from their deeps in Mount Malestrom until the Pact stole it from them. There’s an entire personal story arc about it:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wet_Work
It’s currently being used to power the perimeter defenses for Fort Trinity to keep the remnants of Zaihtan’s forces from attacking it.
You know, maybe right after seeing a Mordremoth corrupted Sylvari making crazy scribbles about how “the leader will die, the rest will fall in line”, getting the leaders of every single race together in one spot was not the best idea.
The Pale Tree’s check bounced and the power company is shutting off her electricity.
It occurs to me that have Rytlock lost in the mists is a great way to have him gone from the game for an extended period without the players constantly asking why he’s not showing up in the story.
I wonder if we could end up seeing other members of Destiny’s Edge going into the mists to look for him as a way of dealing with voice actor availability by putting Destiny’s Edge on a bus.
I liked Trahearne and I liked Scarlett. I think both are interesting characters that somehow ended up becoming scapegoats for issues people were having with gameplay and story structure decisions they didn’t like.
Yeah, there was a lot of problems with the personal story. But none of them would have been fixed by removing Trahearne and sticking some other character in.
when I suggested we have an audience with the pale tree, they rebuke that I’m ‘reknown, but not that famous’, and ourcharacters replies something along the lines of ’we’ll find a way.’
To be fair, the rest of the gang wasn’t with us then, so they probably don’t know we met the Pale Tree before.
As a number of people have noted, the Asura structure appearing in the new Entangled trailer appears to be the one from the plan in Scarlet’s Prosperity Lair, but I’d like to add another theory.
The bit on the right of the plan, composed of an organized array of progressively smaller cubes is the holes from a Menger Sponge, a type of Fractal.
What if this device is the thing we see in the Uncategorized Fractal? Perhaps Dessa was one of Scarlet’s research assitants and that mist fractals was created when one of Scarlet’s experiments went wrong?
I’ve completed the heart corresponding to Lionguard Auda in Snowden Drifts, but cannot buy any karma good from her.
Lore wise interracial love/relationship isn’t common at all, from the top of my head I can think in only 1 example and it was from GW1 (the quest line where a norn fall in love with the player)
Macha (asura) sure seemed to have a stalker crush on Cobiah Mariner (human) in Sea of Sorrows.
Why can’t we by the crafting recipes (e.g. Rune of Exuberance) that were available in the Crown Pavilion last time? Is there any way to get these recipes anymore?
No. I don’t want to have to scour every corner of the game every week to avoid missing something. I have other things to do with my time.
You don’t want to but others do. Five minutes after any release the info will be widely available either here on forums or youtube or Dulfy.
And conversely you can just not read the patch notes.
You don’t know what’s going to happen and you don’t know what you’re going to find. Every week you want to search every corner of the world because the next hint for the living world could be hidden anywhere.
No. I don’t want to have to scour every corner of the game every week to avoid missing something. I have other things to do with my time.
I doubt you’ll implement such a thing though as it would effectively remove server transfer fundings.
I’m still rather upset because I don’t WvW a lot, and I just paid for a server transfer, which is now pretty clearly useless for anything but WvW
Mind if we keep the RP thread where it is? The new blog posts haven’t addressed those concerns yet, so everything in that thread is still relevant.
Seems to me that the solution to the RP problem is to make “RP” a language option.
