Agreed.

One new one and a missed one from earlier:
- Sometimes players cannot easily access the Use on Siege Oil. They have to jump and time the Use hotkey in order to take control of that siege.
- Thieves can Cloak and Dagger off of walls, doors and siege. This was fixed once upon a time but later broken.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Simply put if players want homogeneous game play, they should play sPvP. WvW is about using earned levels, bonuses, armor, etc in fights. Optimizing and improving is what this style of fighting is about. Remove that and many hard core WvW players would move onto another game where they can find that style of play.
Besides any ability that adds defense and makes fights go longer is better in my book. Fights are already over too fast in most circumstances.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I hate to break it to some people, but unless you are running condi bunker, most roamers are near-to full zerker…
There are some variations, like PVT armor -zerk trinks…
Most roamers are not full zerk in my experience. I won’t argue that most use zerk somewhere in their mix (I do on all mine) but I offset that offense with a little defense either with Knights, Soldiers or the like. Pure zerk is just too squishy to handle most out numbered fights. The heavy AoE and condition builds running in roaming pretty much require some type of mitigation.
Now in skirmish, zerk is not only possible but often preferred since a team can offset the full zerk builds with support builds.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Same bug hits when using movement skills at certain times in the game…. particularly on uneven terrain or when falling. Same trick applies but it is often difficult to type /dance while stuck in place getting hit by multiple people.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I don’t remember this but that would be a terrible change. Little a defender can do to stop superior rams now aside from the treb/cata defense.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Mendon tower is probably the worst design of any tower on any map. Almost any defensive siege can be hit by elemenatalist AoE due to the openness of the tower. As a fixed fortification it is a fail all around.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
No. Game needs more defense to counter the ridiculous amount of offense.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I remember when this used to happen in T4… now tumbleweeds blow through most of the time.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The warrior has ridiculously long and telegraphed windups. Sure the running this is annoying but that is a roamer spec and several classes are every bit as slippery. The bunker warrior variety are indeed tough to bring down but hit like a wet noodle. Most warriors are really only strong around other players.
The only class build I have seen to date that has heavy damage and tough to kill is that somewhat new PU mesmer build focused around conditioning.
It’s essentially impossible for an ele to beat a competent warrior in wvw.
Only because they can escape a fight. We have an ele in our guild that will lay smack down on just about any warrior. At best a warrior can fight him to a draw. Just last night I ran into an ele from IoJ near SM that was a beast and would dismantle an average warrior.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The armor softcap is imo a fairly arbitrary number.
There is no soft cap on armor for a variety of reasons.
- Toughness effectively scales healing. Healing for 500 with 3k toughness is roughly 10% more effective than 2.7k toughness.
- Lets say an attack lands for 5k on a player with 2700 toughness. That same attack would land for 4.5k with 3000 toughness. Going up another 300 is still a linear progression from zero just not from the 3000 mark. A player would end up taking 4.09k with 3300 toughness. For their to be a soft cap, the reductions would have to trail off significantly which they do not in this system.
- Toughness has the same linear impact on crits. A 3k hit on 2700 with a double crit magnitude is 6k. With 3000 toughness the player ends up taking 5.4k. 3300 toughness ends up being 4.9k.
The real argument against toughness is not that it becomes more difficult to scale. The argument comes in that it cannot reduce condition damage which can often be 70% or more of the damage a player gets in a fight. The other argument is on heavy crit damage builds where power scales nearly twice as effectively.

I have no issue with that. Now, I’ve never actually tried roaming. Is it profitable? If do, I’ll change my build to something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vIAQJARTjMdUGaXIOewJaAB9QD/iqQpYOsjkizYAB-zkxAYrholALiGbZrIasqFMVJRUt3oIa1CCQWA-w
Roamers who want to fight are probably the slowest of money makers. Doing PvCamp can actually be relatively efficient but boring.
I threw this together so you will have to see how it plays. The Warhorn is probably better for group play but the shield can save your bacon. I wouldn’t use the GS in this build. Bull’s Charge should be used purely for defense to get space between you and whatever is after you. Switch to your melee weapons for mobility and escape only.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
What keeps you guys in WvW? Your SEA does nothing but PvD, but they are at it every night. Don’t they long for anything close to an even fight?
No… they often skip hardened targets and rarely engage in open field. That said they are extremely adept at taking hardened keeps when they put their mind to it. Even though they don’t actively seek open field fights, do not mistake that for the inability to do so.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Am I close to being a rally bot?
If your plan is to stay in bow during large scale encounters you are fine. If that is the case you may be in better shape with Sword/Warhorn offhand or Sword/Shield. It is unconventional but effective for in fight mobility. If you are roaming, drop the bow and get a LOT more condi cleanse.
In its current form, the build cannot effectively stand in the middle of AoE. Condi builds will rip it up without support. If a decent thief gets on you, your invuln and GS mobility is the only thing that will save you.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Oh and using Restorative Strength with Healing Signet is a waste. Activating that signet reduces healing output… with some rare exceptions a player should never activate that signet.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
You can get the armor softcap (2700).
Armor does not have diminishing returns if that’s what you’re saying.
Agreed there is no “soft cap” on armor. It is a divisor and a direct counter to power. Healing scales better with armor than vitality so play styles that put players into direct contact with a lot of direct damage should stack toughness. Most melee builds running less than 3k in a group setting in the current AoE meta is likely a rallybot.
2700 armor is asking for BIG crit shots as well. Warriors have big windups, eat a lot of damage to output theirs and have excellent passive healing. This makes them prime candidates for stacking toughness.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Full zerker armor is always viable just usually not efficient either in zerg, skirmish or roaming. I certainly don’t want any friendly that brittle anywhere near me in WvW.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
There’s a lot of talk in DB’s guilds about trying not to get to gold but stay top tier silver. We would get crushed for 8 weeks in gold league while if we were top silver league we would prosper to the point where we have a stable WvW community after the league. Whether that means we’ll throw a match remains to be seen.
You may not have a choice. If DB lands in T3 next week, they might be able to throw the match and drop in points but it will not be easy. If DB draws a T2 match next week and FA draws T3, DB ends in T3 no matter what they do most likely.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I am willing to guess that most of the population would rather have the WxP patch before leagues. I would actually rather have this and a couple dozen general fixes to WvW before leagues.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
No. I am mainly a roamer/skirmisher but my way to play shouldn’t be the only way to play. Lots of people like running in a big group. Why should they be punished? I could be sold on a small team/roamer speed buff though.
No.
Like the spaces to avoid the character requirement!
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I am still a little confused about this new tourny set up. So It looks like my server DB is probably gonna be ranked 6th going into the tourny.
At this point it looks like DB has about a 49.9% chance of being in Gold league (the RNG will actually decide and that is a tossup).
If they do go into Gold league, they will face T1 and T2 servers only for 9 weeks. Given the current rankings DB will probably never win a week. A simple projection based on current standings (5 points for a win, 3 for 2nd and 1 for last across 9 weeks) would look like this:
JQ – 45
SoS – 29
TC – 27
Mag – 27
BG – 25
DB – 9
Whichever server between FA, DB or Mags (unlikely but possible) lands in Silver, they will blow out Silver and coast to easy wins probably every week.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Gold is going to be completely up to the RNG. Whichever server in T2 falls into T3 next week from the RNG, they are practically guaranteed a Gold entry. So if FA rolls low and DB rolls high, FA would probably be in Gold and DB in Silver. The inverse is also true. Mags has an outside chance of landing in Silver but highly unlikely.
The same is also true of Bronze. Depending on the RNG SF or NS will end up in Silver.
At this point their is no predicting it only guessing because that RNG could throw a serious curve. What I am fairly certain of is whichever T2 server lands in T3, they will dominate and easily take home 1st place making every other server in Silver miserable during those matches.

Is it the profession name that makes people automatically kitten?
D/P gank builds are probably the largest contributor to the general thief hate. People would still complain about them without that build but it wouldn’t be nearly as problematic. A decent D/P thief only dies when they press an attack to far. Otherwise they can hit, reset, hit, reset at will.
I do agree there are numerous other classes with builds that are every bit as annoying and far more dangerous than a thief. Looking at you PU Condi Mesmers.

YB had a good ride in the last league system. If we do plummet we can do it together.
In the end it only worked against us making 2nd place in Silver League. The reward for putting in overtime and giving our all was a silly reward chest and having to face stronger servers for months afterwards, causing all remaining WvW guilds to eventually leave for greener pastures. Those of us who are left on YB won’t be able to repeat the success of season 1, and i think there are very few people who actually care what result we will get. Season 1 killed WvW on YB.
Something worth mentioning is the incredible turnout YB was able to get from their PvE players. At the beginning SBI, YB and BP were all pretty evenly matched. SBI got stronger from transfers, BP pretty much stayed where it was but YB managed to create a passionate defense force from their non-WvW players. What your server did should be an inspiration to other servers and matches… course with sub-par rewards that may be difficult to repeat.

Oh second one that happened this weekend… My small group of friends and I were being chased by a big zerg but we had a comfortable lead. I kept trying to string out a few players so we could pounce on them all the while my friends telling me to run. Anyway this guardian starts hitting me and my friends ask if I am OK. I respond with oh yeah I can get away easy… nobody can catch me… I then sprint away on my warrior. Next thing I know a leopard form grabs me and slows me down halfway between Speldon and Mendons long enough for the zerg to run me over. All I heard on Mumble was the cackling of my friends when I told them a cheetah ran me down.

In a fantastic fight that could have gone either way, I killed a player during a roaming fight in our BL (this was over a year ago). For the entire week whenever I would see that player or a member of their guild, they would immediately transform into a dolyak and follow me around. They wouldn’t attack no matter what I was doing and I just let them be. If someone else attacked them they stayed in their form. At one point they had four dolyaks following me around. That cracked me up all week and still brings a smile to my face.

it has been 69 working days since account-bound WXP was announced
That is not accurate. It has been over 100 days since it was officially announced on the ANet news feed. It has been almost two months since they said it almost made the cut for January but still had some bugs to work out.

Uplevels are fine in karma trains but I have zero interest in being near one in a real fight. I know many are new players and long term bringing them along is a good thing but every time I see a glassy player rez a downed player it kittenes me off. Get rid of rally and I will accept their company any day.

Has my vote and would allow for a shorter season which also would be better IMO.

EotM was the big one which manages the queue problems. Course queues aren’t nearly the problem they were when season one started.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Somebody could post video how to kill decent perma stealth thief who doesn’t even try to fight back. I sometimes manage kill these noob thiefs who wear berserker, but pros use some full PVT and doesn’t take kitten dmg. Sometimes i land hammer stun like 10 times and they still flee same way every time.
Thieves struggle with conditions and control. They have one solid stun breaker on their bar usually so catching them with control is essential. If you run a condition heavy build you know exactly how easy it is to kill a thief. Thieves can shake off about 5 condition stacks and then they have to wait 2-3 seconds to get rid of another.
Last thing of note about thieves… they are almost exclusively direct damage and D/P lacks sustained damage output. If you can survive their burst, they simple become annoying. This is the reason D/P does VERY poorly in duels. Good D/D thieves can be extremely dangerous because they have burst and sustained damage output. They are managed by using dodges, blocks, pulls, etc. Timing is everything on D/D and a missed CnD is a killer.
Keep in mind as a warrior, you are an easy counter if you run the usual GS/Hammer build. They might not be able to kill you but killing a decent thief is a challenge and requires knowing the thief timing cold.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I’m not advocating for Kaineng, especially b/c they aren’t my server (that would be AR, which is also free!), but don’t punish the few loyalists who are still there. The “kittens” who abused the system and gave Kaineng that rep are probably no longer even on the server, so don’t spit in the faces of the people left whom have committed none of those sins.
I don’t think it is fair but a lot of “old timers” really dislike the Kaineng brand. I am sure their current lot of players make for a fine server.
As for AR they will always have my reverence as a server. We were locked into a tier with them and EBay for months and they fought fiercely with some of the best skirmishers/roamers in the game at that time. That tier was an incredible skirmish tier with EBay skirmishers in their prime and AR with a crazy good amount of sPvP’rs coming into WvW. The huge population imbalance sucked and was a big reason AR fell to the bottom. Had BP been in the 3rd slot in that tier caught between two substantially more populated servers for months, I suspect the same would have become of us (and may still).

I think the Rangers are still waiting for a balance patch that was promised a year ago.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
There are about 3-4 builds that are incredibly frustrating to play against and thieves have ONE of them. IMO, I would rather roll up on a thief any day than a speed warrior or a decently played PU mesmer. At least with the thief I know I have a solid chance of winning that fight. Speed warriors can hang in a fight for a long time, then burst away. Mesmers can be flat out dangerous and extremely slippery.
PU Mesmers are insanely hard to beat when played really well. They are challenging in a decent players hands. I had a 15 minute duel with one in our BL N camp this weekend with the camp on my side. Every player that came to help, got annihilated by conditions. I finally gave up and left because the wife called me away.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Agreed. It is a great map hindered by LONG runs. Could be a roamers paradise if getting knocked off a ledge didn’t come with a 5 minute penalty.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Come to Kaineng for free!
Special K will always be known as the kittens that abused free transfers to make a slew of lower ranked servers miserable for months “back in the day”. If Kaineng attracted a large contingent of higher tier players and dominated bronze league that would have to be some type of cosmic joke.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Really? What doesn’t FA and other servers that recieved transfer have it coming?
And, just think, BP is about to get hit with the transfer bug, just like the rest of us. It must be great to be in t5.
Basically servers that do well because of transfers, implode when the grass gets greener elsewhere… in other words… Live by the sword and die by the sword. I don’t have any malice to tranfering players, servers that get transfers, etc. Just stating an observation.
FA was already strong prior to the league announcement. SBI’s strong finish was a product of transfers looking for better rewards. BP players didn’t get any help last league and probably won’t this league either. The server does well despite the lack of transient players. Keep in mind I have no server allegiance as I have bounced around on a half dozen servers since GW2 Beta.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
They would need to add a way for defenders to decap the attackers progress though. Otherwise a failed keep take early in the day that almost succeeded with affect a battle an hour or two later.
Maybe it slowly sets back their progress every 10 seconds the lord is alive? like every 10 seconds 1/10th of the progress bar is lost.
The Lord chest timer already does this. If a server kills the lord the first time, a chest drops. Subsequent banners don’t create more chests. At some point it resets. Basically if the lord doesn’t drop a chest when it dies, the timer doesn’t get reset.
As I see it the big advantage to this system is that it probably requires a ridiculously small amount of coding/testing versus some new mechanic.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Ooophhh… exotic for the best weapon… ANet just doesn’t seem to get loot mechanics.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
0 transfer cost is a REAL opportunity for lower tier servers to attract guilds/players if they are pro-active and revitalise there WvW.
One big guild transfer to a T7 server could easily see that server dominate Bronze league. Since the rewards for winning bronze are the same as gold, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a guild make the hop.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Well, at least you have to give ZeniMax credit for paying attention to feedback from players during the beta and for addressing issues quickly. I think ZeniMax has probably already changed more things in ESO in a couple of months than ANet has done in WvW in the 18 months since launch, and there is actually evidence that the ESO devs care.
Keep in mind it is a Beta and they can change things easily. Once they release they are going to get bogged down like every MMO studio. In dev circles it is called a tail. When a product has a little tail (users and ever growing patched code), they are light, quick and efficient. As the tail grows, adapting to player requests becomes increasing difficult. Essentially the game a company ships with is the game they will have down the road. ESO is already 90% the game it will be two years from now… warts and all. Once it goes into the wild, the engine will be tweaked, bugs will be patched and minor features will be added just like every other MMO.
Before we crown it king of WvW, lets see how ESO does with a few million subs logging in at once. Many an MMO has cracked including some big ones like WoW and SWToR under new user load. ESO may be a credible alternative to GW2 and I certainly welcome the competition but my experience with ESO so far has left me cold to the game.

2400 gems for SBI and SoR , two servers that have just been gutted…
Some must suffer so that others may live. SBI had it coming after the first league though.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
sPvP is contained and you know your environment. Surprises are kept to a minimum.
WvW roaming is very unpredictable. Sometimes it is a 1v1 situation, sometimes at 3v1 and often a zerg just rolls by. Fights escalate constantly. Practically everything can be used against enemies including terrain, guards, siege, gates, etc.
If you want to find out who is the best player using a build, sPvP. If you want to constantly match player skill in an ever changing environment, WvW.

The fix to me is an easy one. Leave the current skills and bannering in place just don’t reset the circle timer. Seems like an easy fix to implement and resolves the real problem.
The silly part isn’t the idea that a warrior can rush in a hold the circle for an extra few seconds by bring a lord up. The silly part is that the entire process starts all over again when that happens.
