I would estimate it costs north of 100 gold to get a base 200 MF between the price of items and salvage kits. That is a lot of money to spend on something that has very little return on investment.
Seems the answer is don’t bother with MF because it basically doesn’t work.

Bug! We noticed this at least a half dozen times this weekend. We finally figured out “the trick” to get around this issue. From another thread:
We have finally figured out that killing a guard AND hitting a door is the only way to guarantee WxP from a keep or castle. Multiple times this weekend we would get a chest from killing the lord, stand in the circle and get zip on the capture. In every case we had missed hitting part of the keep structure. Towers seem to still be door OR guard though

Multiple times this weekend we would get a chest from killing the lord, stand in the circle and get zip on the capture. In every case we had missed hitting part of the keep structure. Towers seem to still be door OR guard though.
Oddly our server has sparked back to life. We were struggling with a lot of guilds mailing it in, not showing up in WvW, not getting much new blood and many were hoping to end up in the bottom tier when the NA leagues were going to be two divisions. Now we are firing on all cylinders and have roared back to peak performance. I can only hope all servers get such an infusion as the league starts up.
4 long queued BP maps on reset night… hoped I would never see it. Even with that the first few hours IoJ and DB were putting up a monster of a fight. I know our current rank shows T4, but feels like we are T3 now.
Lots of great fights again. REALLY zergy this weekend but still managed to find quite a few skilled warriors out there. Hard to see my former DB home (from months ago) not doing as well as when I left. Not really loyal to a server but I really liked the laid back, little drama, solid skill of the DB I left. I hope those attributes are still accurate for DB.
BPPL very laggy and DC = =
That has sucked for everyone involved. I have completely stopped going even when it is in trouble because getting DC’d every 5 minutes when a fight starts sucks.
It is frustrating to not see exotics for hours upon hours of game play. I have made over 4k in dragonite and have gotten zero exotics from those events. I crafted more exotics getting to the 500 weapon smithing than I have probably seen this year. Seems my exotic drop rate is less than two per month which means I am seeing an exotic roughly every 75 hours of game play.
What is the point of magic find if there is no loot? Does this game have a “Wi flag” for avoiding loot drops?
I have over 100 base magic find and I have been running birthday presents for almost a week so my magic find is north of 200. Since the magic find change I have logged over a hundred hours of game play in WvW, 70+ WvW levels and more than 5k kills. In that time I have gotten 2 exotics (worth a combined 3g) and nothing bigger than a thimble of WvW liquid experience.
Maybe I am just unlucky but with 1500 hours in game and nearly 400 WvW levels, multiple 80s, tons of world events I have never seen a precursor (nor has anyone from my guild) or an ascended item drop.
Anyone else with a similar problem or can explain how this is supposed to work?
The disconnects have kept me completely off BP Bl (Green) since the reset. I have also seen this in Eternal a couple times in the past.
When this “bug” is in effect as soon as a decent sized fight starts the client lags heavily and eventually disconnects. Currently, no other BL or EB does this and it happens to several members of our guild. Even when we manage to stay connected the amount of rubber banding is horrible.
The question now is how many players bail on SBI now that they got vaulted into gold? I like SBI but they have gotten a lot of bandwagon players who probably aren’t in it for the long haul especially when it is unlikely they will win any week over the next 7 weeks.
D/P thieves are easy kills IF they want to fight. Most just troll or strafe targets hoping for an easy kill. IMO there should be no perma-stealth in the game. I don’t think anyone likes chasing these builds around especially when clearing a keep.
I am a thief primary and I very much dislike the design of D/P.
Said it multiple times and will say it again… they should unlock the zoom for everyone. It is a simple fix that levels the playing field. Would be great if ACs observed overhead environments but that would just be a bonus.
Curently WvW is an Alt-Unfriendly environment. This thread is for people to put down their ideas to help solve the issue. Account bound wxp has already been ruled out, so I am looking for ideas OTHER than that.
They have stated as much but I will not be surprised if they eventually give in on this. The design as it stands is pretty stupid. It is supposed to extend the amount of game play a player will put in. However now players feel locked into one character which will likely cause them to burn out faster. This feature is having the opposite effect and has become one of the most alt-unfriendly MMOs I have played.
Sometimes a map just gets so bugged out it disconnects players every 5-10 minutes. This is happening on the BP BL right now and aside from being annoying it is effecting overall game play for our server. This isn’t the first time this has happened as I have seen it multiple times over the last few months.
I wish we could freeze this match up and tier for a few weeks. Absolutely the best fights I have had in WvW after nearly a year of play. Lots of skill groups running around, plenty of skirmish, great roaming and the zerg fights are even fantastic.
Our server is ahead by a small bit but it has been a real back and forth this week. I know if BP hadn’t pulled in every warm body we could, played late and kept at it we would certainly not be leading as the overall competition is very well balanced.
The “problem” with warriors isn’t that they are really good at XYZ. It is that they are pretty much good at all parts of WvW right now. They excel roaming, skirmish, zerg, direct damage, speed, condition damage, interrupt, bunkering, on and on. While no single warrior build is OP IMO the totality of a do anything very well class is problematic. If the warrior is the jack of all trades, it surely should be the master of none.
I haven’t played my thief for a few months, I was getting bored of my warrior so I started playing thief again yesterday. Been running around fighting 3v1’s and 4v1’s where I literally cannot die, but kill the enemy eventually due to attrition.
Wow I was just thinking the same thing. I logged my warrior in after a few months of playing my thief and in one day I was unbeatable… I literally took out an entire 10+ skill guild in the middle of Hills while the lord had Righteous Indignation running. I literally could not literally die.
My sarcasm aside… Video or it didn’t happen.
(edited by Straegen.2938)
If this is what we are complaining about, then the game is in fantastic shape.
Its not the thief, I do that with every class I play. I am just better.
;-)
On a serious note: if any class has the tools to beat the condition meta it is P/D-Thief.
Just stop the spam and quit thinking black or white. I am grey.
A warrior running Hoelbrak and Lemongrass is the best at dealing with condi bunkers hands down. A D/P could use Perplexity/Head Shot to beat an Engi but necros are very hard to kill with condition damage.
Thieves generally suck fighting condi-bunkers since every condi removal we have is tied to exiting the fight and taking pressure off. Claims of “I yet have to die vs one of the above classes in my PD build” means you have not fought enough or dueled many skilled players.
You original point about Generosity being a deciding factor against Perplexity is still flawed. The 10s ICD and the damage taken to deliver it limits its effectiveness against a runeset that has no ICD.
There is no doubt in my mind they query the output of XYZ before they touch it. If they apply a nerf, it is most likely due to a significant imbalance on Anet’s end. This is the reason a lot of players “cry” about something and it never changes while others “cry” and it does. The posters complaining about perplexity simply alerted ANet so they would check it out themselves.
As for significant nerfs… there have been few in this game. Even after those nerfs, every class still has multiple builds that work well in some form or role in WvW (with the exception of maybe the ranger and that problem isn’t from nerfs).
Lastly I would point out that whining about whining is whining.
I am sure someone mentioned it but TC is a great PvE server with a healthy WvW server. It doesn’t compete with the T1 blobs but it has a very large WvW presence and a lot of “character”.
IMO allow any player to log into any PvE server any time. Then uncouple the transfer price from the general population. Instead use a formula (any negative result would be 0) such as
((24 – Rank) * 100) + (10 * (PlayerTransfers – PlayersLeft))
So if you were the 12th player to transfer to AR and they had 5 players transfer off it would be:
((24 – 24) * 100) + (10 * (12 – 5)) = 70 gems
My server BP with the same transfers:
((24 – 11) * 100) + (10 * (12 – 5)) = 1370 gems
JQ with the same transfers:
((24 – 2) * 100) + (10 * (12 – 5)) = 2270 gems
(edited by Straegen.2938)
That’s not correct. Changing the scoring metric would lower the reward and score disparity of PvD play during off hours.
Though I will argue a dynamic system is much to prone to the player base gaming that system.
There are no “off hours” which is sort of the point. If 100v20 is happening at 4AM server time and 20v100 at 8PM server time, what are the off hours? Even if the scoring somehow becomes dynamic both servers will most likely end up in nearly the same spot fighting each other. Drop a strong Oceanic server down a few notches and they will be even more dominant at that time thus raising their score.
Then we get into servers who have a strong NA Prime Weekday against a servers with a strong NA Prime Weekends. How do we score them so they balance each other out? Even in a dynamic system probably right where they are now.
If we are after even matches, frankly the score should not determine the matchups and matchups should not be server based.
There’s a human (maybe norn?) female engineer from the [roam] guild that is probably one of the nastiest engineers I’ve ever fought against on any server, even if most are running very similar builds. You musta known your class before all that came out because you are just ugly to fight. :] And if not, well, go you.
Gotta love a member of a solid guild giving props to a member of a solid opposing guild. We have run into both of your guilds this week and have been impressed. Seems a lot of excellent skirmish guilds live in this matchup.
Gut the server system and replace it with a guild alliance system. Guilds would be grouped together based on alliances, typical play time, average play duration, overall ranking and some randomness to keep the matches fresh.
Each week 3 groups of guilds would face off. This would help even out population, and coverage as well as create fresh matches every week. The WvW scoreboard would become a Guild scoreboard for bragging rights. Rewards would be based on how well a guild alliance does in the match up.
If someone can pluck a hole in that system (aside from the work necessary to do it), I would like to hear it.
Changing the scoring would not really solve anything. In the current server based system, population imbalance and coverage will always make some matchups less fun no matter how the scoring is shifted around.
Bite the pillow…
See how stupid this system is?? Everything players do during NA prime time doesn’t matter.. And this is where the most players play on this server.
The difference, the way you get ahead for these servers, are other time zones. It should be when most play should matter most.
In this matchup NA Prime matters very much. The reason is simple… it is crazy fun. A relatively even matchup is driving players to fight at their peak, this in turn causes players to have more fun which completes the circle since having fun drives players to fight at their peak. Even the diversity of fights has been spectacular… roaming, skirmishing and zerg fights have all been fantastic.
It hasn’t been this fun since… well.. ever. Lots of fun, heaps of respect and quite frankly some of the best fights I have ever had in almost a year of WvWing. If Anet can find a system that replicates this tiers population and balance every week, I would have to install a colostomy bag, IV drip and intravenous feeding.
Coverage is also a huge factor in most tiers. The cheap fix is to change or adjust the scoring mechanism but that doesn’t address the player fun factor. IMO the best solution is also the most painful which is to eliminate the server concept from WvW and align populations by guild on a weekly basis.
Superior Sigil of Generosity fixed perplexity issues for me. In fact now I love facing thieves 1v1 that use them.
Best you can do is a single CD transfer every 10s… every necro and engi you pop that on worth their salt is not even noticing it. That sigil has an ICD of 10s.
A good condi bunker will drop 4+ condis and keep them up. Even after a stealth/shadowstep which will likely cleanse 5 CDs, they just stack it right back up. Duel a decent condi bunker then come back and have a conversation because it will be a different one.
I don’t even bother with them anymore because an engi will just bomb his way out and a necro will tor-fear or plague form. Good luck if you run into two of them.
The meta is changing right now. Melee train is on its way out. Give it a few months of spreading and people here will see this. These compositions already melt against organized guilds.
Hammer train zombie hordes (banner warriors) are still extremely powerful in WvW at least in the mid tiers. Sure the squishes behind the train can find themselves in trouble but they need only roll a guardian or warrior and join the train to stay up longer in a fight. Hammer trains synergize very well complete with ample stability, knockdown, condi mangement and retaliation so no reason to think they are in trouble.
Supply mastery 4; gives reasonably consistent returns for a fraction of the price of Supply Capacity.
Build Mastery/Repair Mastery 1; When you have +5 supply, a single channel won’t deplete your supply when building or repairing. Getting these two to rank 1 will make everything go faster.After that, I would probably start working on one of the following;
Ram Mastery 3; makes you that much more effective at knocking down doors, people will usually either go in the front door or…
Catapult Mastery 1; by knocking down a wall.
AC Mastery 4; makes you a bunch much more effective at holding back zergs; ACs are the cornerstone generic defense siege
Defense against Guards 10->Guard Killer 10; Makes soloing camps really, really easy as opposed to just easy. If you move into defending/attacking, the stacking buffs will pay back dividends; that vitality is nothing to sneeze at.After you’ve hit your stride, then start picking up Siege Bunker and Siege Might. They are, mathematically, very strong- Spending 30 points to cut siege damage by 5% is quite effective, but you won’t really feel yourself getting more effective so it can feel like your points are being sacrificed to the WXP God.
This is IMO the best post here. If you can get 115 points Apt Fort is the best thing for practically every WvW player who steps outside of a wall. After that, this post is the direction I would go.
SBI is probably the best bandwagon server right now as they are clearly worthy of Gold League but a slew of low ranked matchups over the last few weeks has kept them artificially low. They will win every week in Silver league.

Dire gear isnt that greate at all, a lot builds/classes out there are stronger with apothecary gear^^
Actually it is. Dire is a cheap armor set that hardens a target against direct and condition damage while amplifying condi damage. It also has CD as its primary stat which is very nice.
I am not saying Apoth isn’t good on some builds as it clearly is, but by comparison Apoth armor has CD as a secondary attribute and requires a build to take the healing stat. The healing stat point for point is not as good as either toughness or vitality in most builds. Healing is best used on builds that have a lot of toughness and condition management which makes it somewhat limited.
They just did a reset and I am hopeful they will do more in the future… IMO any time they introduce a new line or start a league would be optimal.
That said an on demand one for say badges would be nice. Some people like to try out something before they sink 150+ hours of WvW levels into it.
Yes they are OP especially when paired with Dire armor on a bunker with builds that have numerous interrupts/condition types. These need an ICD so they fall in line with other rune sets in the game. I have already switched to lemongrass food and Hoelbrak to help mitigate conditions since condi removal is almost pointless.
The OP does have a valid point… heavies have come to dominate a large portion of WvW. Guardians were always accepted because they are role specific. Warriors however have become a defacto power standard in pretty much every WvW role.
Condition bunker builds are forcing more players out of non bunker medium and light classes.
Yep that was us. I am not quite sure what Guardian you guys were using, but we simply could not kill him. That fight had to go at least 10 minutes.
He is ridiculously good and uses a hybrid mostly bunker/partial damage build. Just enough damage you cannot ignore him. The ele keeps the heals going and conditions constantly removed while sharing auras so when the two of them are close to each other they are REALLY hard to bring down. Once you stopped focusing him and turned your attention to me (thief) I went down FAST but that was still 6+ minutes into the fight as I had rotated 4 dagger storms.
Funny enough one of your guardians and eles ended up leaving the fight at the end… we could not bring you guys down either. Even the duel at the end was a fantastic back and forth with that ele… he/she was very good.

Best match up I have ever had after months of play. Lots of great mostly balanced zerg on zerg, fantastic skirmish and great roaming. It has been back and forth all weekend. If every tier had fights like this every week WvW would be a monster success.
Best fight we have ever had in all of our WvW experience was with PPK at Astral camp this weekend. The fight was a small skirmish between 5 of us and a small group of them. It raged a solid 10 minutes and they finally downed one of us (me). I decided to run back across the entire map and THE FIGHT WAS STILL GOING! We finally got the upper hand but it really could have gone either way multiple times. I did manage to chase two of them back across the map and that ended in an honorable duel. Absolutely fantastic and huge props to a very skilled group of players in PPK.

If a player plans to play a moderate amount of WvW, laurels for WvW levels makes no sense.
With laurels
Without Laurels
Both
Basically in three months of modest WvW play a player will have BOTH and noticeable improvement in stats in and out of WvW.
(edited by Straegen.2938)
Save your WxP potions so the next time it will go super quick.
Over 2k hours in game, 5 fully kitted level 80s, have farmed world events for dozens of hours, never missed a daily or monthly, 300+ WvW ranks… never seen an ascended anything drop, don’t know what a precursor looks like and despite having near 100% unbuffed magic find haven’t seen an exotic drop in days. Loot… it sucks in this game.
When loot drops are a byproduct of play, the game missed the point. Players will grind the hell out of loot system as long as the payoffs come somewhat regularly. There is a reason a bunch of people sit in front of slot machines for days on end. Anet needs to go to the Diablo/Borderlands school of loot drops.
Seems pretty balanced to me.
You have now started a war on our forums as to which roaming group you are referring to, any other clues as to the other classes from sic that were there? Perhaps we could take a peek at the video. We need confirmation as to whos egos are allowed to grow, and who’s has to shrivel.
I will check the video when I get home, but I know there was an Asuran guardian, another guardian, a human elementalist and a necro. There was probably a warrior in there somewhere but the fight was moving really fast. I didn’t get the entire fight just the tail end on video. I was too jacked up at the start to remember to press the record button. Unsual to get a solid fight like that in eternal.
We had two ballistas, one AC, a treb and a canon firing at the start of the fight. Me (thief) and 3-4 other pugs were jumping off the walls at Veloka hitting them between cool downs. I had full stacks of bloodlust, Applied Fortitude, Guard Leech, ascended weapons and for a thief was running a fairly tanky build. The necro conditions kept me busy but the guardian blew me up. I ended up dropping the elementalist and the necro a few times but never put a guardian down. They just kept coming back up. It finally took 10+ coming in from our spawn to wipe the group. I saluted each downed player because they fought like champs and did your guild proud.
Whats stopping you from applying? server loyalty? boo.
great..now my late night crew is gonna have such a huge ego.
Watching the video back that Asuran guardian was a beast. Good damage from a heavy tank and he had fantastic mobility. Got stuck in a bubble with him and pain was most certainly felt.
Our small skirmish group still has a couple active members that I have been playing with for over a decade across dozens of games and I would not move without them. I will check and see if they are keen on moving over though. The two of us that are still highly active play heaps during your prime hours, prefer skirmish, have multiple fully geared 80s and have around 3k hours of WvW game time.
Just ran into an impressively talented skirmish group of your players outside of BP Veloka. While under heavy siege fire, with lots of enemy DPS coming in you guys lasted for a long time. It took a significantly larger group of BP showing up to finally finish the job.
Oh and I don’t think I saw any flavor of the month builds in that fight. It was solid builds and heaps of skill. I will be replaying my recording of that fight to see how I can improve.
I have fought a lot of skirmish teams and that one was likely one of the toughest teams around. Kudos… if I was on IoJ I would certainly apply.
Anyone else experiencing a ridiculously low drop rate on the key pieces? If this is going to be daily might want to make it better than 1 piece per hour. I have already done 6 world events, killed about 20 champs and mowed through at least 1k worth of mobs and gotten exactly 1 key piece.
Temples is best way, always 30 ore and its super easy. Dragons are waist of time.
That seriously depends on the server. Temples can easily take 30 minutes to do compared to 10 minutes for a dragon. If you can hit a temple at the right time, certainly a better guaranteed payoff but that is harder than it sounds. Timing dragons is far easier and nearly as rewarding with an average of 20 dragonite.
Guard Defense max rank with Applied Fortitude is first and foremost IMO.
After that depends on what you like to do. The first few points in Flame Mastery, Treb Mastery and AC are very good. Putting some points in siege, supply and repair are worthy as well. Past that seems to be dealers choice.
If you roam or skirmish Guard Killer max rank is worth it.
guard killer guard lleach and defense against sieges – things you’ll want to get with your laurel if it’s up as well as one point per repair build ans upply mastery
<3 win. Then you level your wxp normally for your needs.
Alts are now viable again if this comes to life. <3 AND MY GUARDIAN WILL BE A COMMANDER WEE.
That is roughly 440 laurels and 11000 badges to get one alt to Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude… yeah nobody has that. Badges sure, but that is almost a year’s worth of laurels.
Laurels are time gated and the only way to get ascended trinkets. I suppose some players will have extra laurels after fully kitted alts but WvW levels seem to be a giant waste of laurels.
I would rather see locked portals instead of bannered lords.
IMO portals should become locked and stay locked as long as the outer wall is breached.
