Yes I agree, why they made a mix of AB/TA [alliance battles/Team arenas] the ONLY game mode is beyond me. Capture points is boring period [and boring to watch as well]. HA and GvG were awesome very unique and very tactics driven it was like a game of chess.
Also, they have cheapened the titles in GW2, in GW1 titles meant something because you had to WIN to get points, in HA you gained points in increments adding more points to every consecutive win, until you reached the Hall of Hero’s where it was a 1v1v1 and a rotation of 3 game modes and if you won your guild or the leader of the party was broadcasting in pve and pvp and you had to fight to stay the champion of the halls of hero’s! There were many ganking’s the germans would gank the koreans out then the americans would gank the germans ect. ect. ect very competitive and FUN!
And in GvG you had to get to champ range rating [1500 in the start of gw then they lowered it to 1200] and after you got to champ range you had to face another guild of champ range to get ONE point.
In [GW2] you get points for killing people, killing npc’s, and …. standing in circles? Right ive seen people bot to rank 60+ already just making quick macros to stand on point and off point w/ 2 accounts….simply ridiculous.
Also lessened the rewards for participating in PvP as a whole. HA gave you a chest at the end where you could potentially get a ghostly hero [worth 100’s of millions of gold i got 10 stacks of ecto when i sold mine] or possible a crystalline sword [also worth a pretty penny] and in GvG we you could sell the guilds for hundreds of millions of gold if they won gold cape or even champ range you could get aloooot of in game gold with it.
In gw2 what do we get….some crappy skins? Yep thats it !
Ya, that’s something that I guess he assumes I would have a problem with. Skins are cosmetic and have no bearing on anything except to show what you’ve accomplished. A PVER is no better off if he uses his skin in SPVP while I’m no better off when doing the opposite. It’s just odd to me that the gear is identical in looks, it just has a different name and means to obtain it. If I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time getting the gear in SPVP, why should I have to spend a similar amount of time to re-obtain it through PvE?
Actually what the real point was, would you want the reverse to be true as well?
If someone spends a rediculous amount of time and effort, and yes it’s a grind even if it is only against AI, to obtain radakitten gear in PvE including a legendary weapon would you want them to be able to use this in SPvP. It’s just a skin right?
- Part of it comes from, and I realize it was said in multiple other threads, some ‘PvPers’ (noticed I hate the whole segregation of gametype mentality?) also want to get levels and gold etc for PvE through their time spent PvPing in the mists as well. I realize you’re just asking for skins, and so I still refer you to the question of "Do you want it to work both ways, or only to the benefit of only mist warriors?
It was like that in GW1, we could take our pve skins into pvp and play, but if you made a pvp only character it was just stuck in the pvp only area’s.
No one complained then and why would some pve’er complain about a pvper who gets to show his hard earned skins in just town clothes, hell only reason i go to pve is lions arch to the bank all of my characters are lvl 1.
Why does it work like that? Why are there two separate grinds within one game? Can’t my character be a single character?
TLDR: Because the gaming community and it’s desire for self segregation and 1-upmanship require it to be that way.
Long version:
It used to work this way.
Then MMO’s started to get away from open world PvP and make it a mini-game within the game. Meanwhile the people still forming raids, pushing new content and such would acquire top-end gear. Then they would go play the pvp mini-game, which some players took very seriously and have pretty hefty stat advantages. PvPers got mad and started screaming for gear advantages in the pvp minigame that would render the PvE gear obsolete, OR for equal gear to the PvE’ers.Well for a while games had the 2nd option, and PvE’ers got mad as all hell that a few BiS items for their raiding happened to be from PvP, where they’d have to deal with the competitive elitism (vs the time-based elitism of raiding, which is very hypocritical yes but that’s another rant).
This further splintered communities into distinct districts, who then had to have completely seperate gear grinds to validate the time spent by either party in their respective parts of the game. Of course PvE’ers constantly get their gear upgraded with new content which eventually would push the statistical difference high enough to compete with PvP gear again and so PvP gear would have to increase as well. More grind.
ANet here has gone with a decent option which is to fully embrace the segregation by saying “Ok, neither part has any effect on the other part. EVER. Enjoy”…
But now the PvPers still aren’t happy (which is ironic since the PvE’ers are usually called out for being carebear and wanting things handed to them…) and want their cake and to eat it too if/when they choose to go into PvE (which translates into WvW mind you).The other option would be to get rid of the whole PvP minigame design and go back to the original design of early MMO’s where there is only the “world”. All PvP, all PvE happens in the same world. No instanced PvP minigame. No segregation. One grind for all. However this would mean players would need to go back to actually playing the game in it’s entirety. It would also mean people would have to deal with open world PvP WHILE they PvE’d. Or go to a PvE only server where it wouldn’t matter.
But neither party would be happy with that as history has already gone that route and the self segregation would most likely happen all over again.
All he is suggesting is a option to show our spvp gear in TOWN clothes they have NO stats.

They must of hired some drop out coders and programmers, the sheer amount of bugs in the skills alone have been there since beta.
And more recently the endless loading screen bug [a bug that has been fixed before] is back now and it seems like their OWN patch broke their own game client. It has been 15 days since the start of the SECOND endless loading screen bug and has not given an ETA on a fix of a GAME BRAKING bug.
And they show lazyness server side as well, if this game was so revolutionary they should of done a super server design like the upcoming elder scrolls online or ATLEAST make a districting system like in gw1 [at least for spvp anyways, seems like most of the NA HotM are empty except for anvil].
Thank you. See the details of my second (lengthy) post in this thread. On two very recent occasions they dodged talking about numbers when it comes to active players. Anyone not playing with biased blinders on realizes the insanely sharp decline the population has taken.
Also for those who buy gems, we’ve seen the value of gems increase and the value of in game coin decrease. This has long been speculated to be a metric of how strong the population is. The theory is when the active players numbers are high ArenaNet is selling plenty of gems, when the player base is low ArenaNet raises the value of gems to entice more people to purchase them (ArenaNet does not hide that the gem to coin conversion is not a free market system and that it is controlled by confidential algorithms… they are pretty up front about the gem store being a core part of their business model and how they keep revenue streaming in)
In currency exchange 100 gems today will buy you about 1.25 gold coin. This means in the coin to gem conversion, in game coin is about 4.5x less valuable today than it was at launch. I am very confident the game is going though a very sharp decline, possibly dying. As my original position states, if this is the case it’s simple justice and proof that the public is smart enough to spot the wizard behind the curtain.
I imagine sales of GW2 are not so hot right now. The MMO community is pretty tight, friends don’t let friends waste money.
Yea the games dying no doubt about it, cant talk for PvE numbers but the Spvp side has been dying since launch [and anyone who says to the contrary are delusional]
Lets talk some numbers, GW 2 had a little over 2 million in sales at launch, of those 2 million the spvp population has dwindled to barley populate any of the spvp servers [usually only 10-70 out of 325 servers are populated usually] but I am not one to do hotjoin it is a mess, no structure and a complete zerg fest.
So lets look at tournys, paid only pops during prime time 6-9 pm ish for NA, if its not within that time frame forget about it, paids are totally dead. And even if paids pop the wait times are incredibly long, free’s even take its sweet time now if its not prime time, and too me that is totally unacceptable for a new game…imagine playing Halo 4 or cod or even WoW for that matter and had to wait 30min to an hour to get ONE game…Ridiculous.
Rampant bugs, no structure in hot join pvp, no ladder, no matchmaking, ONE game mode [and a very stagnant game mode at that (cap points)], no customization of games….the list goes on why pvp is dying.

No there not totally faceroll there actually a very underpowered class thats why almost no one in spvp would ever consider playing a thief. And this pic the two highest players didn’t gain those pts because there thieves they just happened to be the best players in the match lol.

We’re going to get nerf Archaon no matter what point you’re trying to prove. It’s going to happen and we know the reason so quit being silly.
They already nerfed S\D dazelock and i’m not worried about other nerf, as i managed to modify my build affter tactical strike and mes runes not working anymore, i would do it again.. I keep hearing thieves try to sell this dodge theory, but I’ve never seen anyone do it successfully when i play my thief.
I only have to sit in shadow Refuge for 2 seconds then I can leave the circle and retain stealth. I get halfway across a map before the stealth runs out so you didn’t see my shadow refuge go off and you have no clue that I’m there. Shadow Refuge is also a pretty large circle and it’s very easy for me to avoid someone wildly swinging a sword.
Even if my stealth ran out my steal re-stealths me, so the only way your gonna avoid a 19k dmg off mug/steal Bs is to be pyschic, Holy crap can you read minds?
I’m also very well aware of every viable ranger build and there all pretty much free kills never had a ranger defeat my thief 1v1 lol and I will prove that to any ranger in hotjoin.
sigh complain all you want all the mechanics to dodge it are there, use them bro stop complaining, thieves only one shot people who are new or people who are taken by surprise, even then its not a 1 shot combo since the c&d nerf.

I’ve tried every profession and i rotate between guard, mes, ele, thief, and necro not in any order just what i feel like playing.

was worried during beta when i heard the voices in shemore, but i thought to my self its just the beta cant be this bad through out the ENTIRE game, but alas the game launches and even more horrid voice acting through out the entire game.
It was so bad i stopped playing pve all together [still have not finished my personal story traherne’s voice is so bad it’s just…cant do it man], they used too much resources on the graphical side of the game, but none on the story or voices.
And dont even get me started on the human female voices they just make me cringe, im a tpvper my self and started playing this game on mute.

Yes it is insane i don’t even know what the pvp devs were thinking when they made CAP points [Alliance Battles the least competitive game mode of gw1] the ONLY game type…
GW1 dropped with RA TA GVG HA…
HA ALONE had 9 maps and MULTIPLE game modes ranging from deathmatch, king of the hill, relic running, and defend the hill, the last map was randomly chosen from 3 game modes as well.
GvG had tons of maps too and the tactics and positioning and buildcrafting in GvG was amazing, no other mmo to date has the depth gws1 pvp had.
Even the RA system is better than the hotjoin mess that they have now, atleast in RA you knew you would always fight a team 4v4 not 3v8.
GW2 drops with hot join and tpvp?
Hot joins a mess no structure ALWAYS imbalanced teams [i.e. 3v4 4v5 5v6 hell even 8v2 if its past 400 points] and the people in hot join ALWAYS zerg [Hivemind? Sheepies?]

So im just playing some D/D ele use RTL in the clock tower map near the mansion at the ledge looking over where the blue repair kit spawns then…i get stuck in a crack?
My character was fully immobile and stuck…try /stuck does nothing [there was no one around me and was trying to get unstuck for a good 10 seconds]…then a thief comes and kills me and then ENDLESS LOADING SCREEN…..GG Anet you owned me….
Also experienced this in forests and foefire always get stuck where the terrain is uneven and there are small gaps in the floor….
Now a different time was playing a staff/sword.pistol mes teleporting around, use phase retreat and i port into the ground…was actually in the ground under water…?
Were there no quality testers/managers?

Aion is on that list because it is HUGE in korea and i mean HUGE, every pc cafe in korea has it and thats alot of koreans playing.
GW2 is dying in spvp so fast its unreal, 50-80 out of 325 spvp servers active, paid tpvp never pops and free tpvp is taking its sweet time now lmao [US servers EU has some life left]
i know every mmo has a drop off after release but this is a worse crash than swtor lets see what anet does…..but at this rate its donesied
CS ( the original ) is open source (source as in the SOURCE game franchise) it was a mod to the source games and it wasn’t until later on they became a stand alone game.

Counter strike started with no infrastructure to support large scale stat tracking and it became the biggest game in esport. Players made their own leaderboards, clans, clan sites, and arranged their own tournaments.
When players wanted deathmatch, or something else they changed the game.
Players these days want to blame the developers so much, that they forget how little the developer has to do with just how far a game goes.Sigh…your comparison is so horrid…..just wow…..

What do i not understand? Counter strike was a mod to the source games, using the same character models and same game engine. [im talking about cal-m 1.6 MANY MANY years ago i started CS 8 years ago infact]. It is an open source game, players can start their own server or rent a server from different companies, and that is where scrims came in. Top clans registered in the Cal series and match ups were made and tourny dates were posted.

The point isn’t the mods themselves, just like the WoW comparison wasn’t about doing world or faction PvP. It is show that communities put in an effort, and the effort is what made the game great.
sPvP and WvWvw can be so much more than it is now. To many people just want Anet to hold there hands and show them were the fun is.
In my opinion, mmos are less about the content devs give us and more about what we do with it.
Exactly we cant do ANYTHING… sigh still don’t get my point? cs worked because it was open source, WoW worked because PvP was world wide with private duels, you could pvp where ever you wanted. The arenas system came about because of all the dueling.
GW2 does not have that flexibility at all, we just get haphazard servers with very little structure or customization. We cant even duel in Heart of the mists, devs want us to play how they think it will be the easiest to balance for “e-sport”.

You are talking about pve [lions arch? wtf does that have to do with spvp], i as an exclusive pvper only stay in the heart of the mists, and by reading your post seems that you are a hot join spvper and pver.
Because if you played Tpvp at all you would know the abysmal state it is in.

Yes i am reading your post, so you say you are a pvper and you think pvp is not dead? why the kitten were you talking about pve and what does ANY of the fracticle bull kitten or lions arch have anything to do with spvp?
Lets go over the facts ONCE again shall we my dear akame. 50/325 spvp servers with people on them…. lets see that is if half of them are full and half of them have a little more than half capacity that is…. roughly 600 ppl playing the hot join..
The tourny system being as dead as it is takes 8 teams of 5 people to start, as paid rarely pops anymore that is out of the question, frees on the other hand never took long to pop until recently, now it takes 10-20 min depending on the time zone and hour.
So lets say there are 16 to 24 teams playing that is 80-120 more pp…..
Now the tpvp numbers are in no way accurate, but you see the point.
If you really think spvp is not dead or dying my friend you are very delusional.
P.S. Anet Sold over 2 million copies of this game yet the pvp population is probably about .25% of the overall playerbase? Seems legit
Also, please explain to me what your going on about, this post is about the dismal state tpvp is in, if you think the tourny system is fine more power to ya…

If the systems aren’t in the game why should we go out of our way to make a makeshift infrastructure that would be semi stable at best……
Should of been launched with it……
Current system is like LoL w/o ELO or GvG’s in GW1 without a rating system….
Most people have moved on to the new halo or the new cod and even back to WoW…..and with planet side 2 coming in mere hours…..there really is no point in pvping until these BASIC structures are in….

let me reiterate i am not against gw2 nor do i have the wish that it goes down in flames. I am merely stating that pvp is dead and asking what will the devs do.
You are talking about pve [lions arch? wtf does that have to do with spvp], i as an exclusive pvper only stay in the heart of the mists, and by reading your post seems that you are a hot join spvper and pver.
Because if you played Tpvp at all you would know the abysmal state it is in.

LoL can keep players because of aforementioned qualities i.e. ranking system and matchmaking systems are in place.
Where as GWs2 has no systems in place, as mentioned in the OP.

Anyways here are the facts if you are that challenged.
LoL launched with a Ladder and ranking system i.e the ELO system
Gw2 does not have a competitive ladder system [the qp thing is just abysmal does not count]
LoL has a matchmaking system making the fights not completely ONE sided
GW2 does not its just a random jumble of players fighting each other [i.e. pugs vs premade fiasco]
and Syeria sweetie i never compared gw 2 directly to LoL just saying if you had to wait that long to enter a match that your either going to DOMINATE or get DOMINATED every ones is going to leave.
So i am asking what is anet going to do about this problem?

Syeria LoL is a F2P game and its sole income is generated from an instore game so it NEEDED time to build its player base.
GW 2 is F2P But at the cost of a initial 60$ fee, 2 MILLION people purchased the game, yet the pvp population of this game is almost non existent.
Soooo Paids Never PoP now.
Free tournies take 10-20 mins to pop now depending on the time period….
Imagine playing LoL/Dota/Halo4/CoD and the wait time was 10-20 min or god forbid an hour, every one would quit…..oh wait they did.
over 2 million people bought this game, yet there are at most 50/325 spvp servers active, and the tourny system being as dead it is, then there’s a WHOPPING 500-1000 players playing pvp!
their tourny system a ghost town, spvp is thought of as an annoying and mindless zergfest AND the heart of the mists are NOT connected leaving most ALL of the servers Heart of the mists deadzones……
If WvWvW is considered PvE why are the heart of the mists tethered to the single server if Spvp has NO impact on WvWvW?
I thought this was marketed as a pvp oriented game…..yet why is all the new content only PvE???

Ok so GW1 shipped with 4 pvp modes HA, GvG, RA, and TA [even low lvl arenas], as factions expansion launched 3 more modes were added AB, FA, and JQ.
AND it shipped with a guild ladder ranking system, granted there were no individual ranks or titles in the beginning of GW1 but what are titles anyway? just some way to show how much you play sure, but nothing as important as an actual competitive ladder.
We fastforward some 7 years we get GW2 with a AB/TA style game [cap points with small groups] the LEAST popular and LEAST competitive game mode in gws1?
Why Anet? I just don’t understand….
So when are actual changes [i.e. new game modes, spectator mode, and a ladder/game wide ranking system] going to be implemented?
Gamer’s are fickle and heart of the mists in numerous servers are ghost towns, pvper’s are leaving in droves to games that acctually give veriety to pvp [halo 4,cod, and sad to say even WoW]
P.S. i love the core game its just there is no content
