i will farm heropoints in hot, and if there is an interresting mission/quest i will just skip it.

thats what anets wants me to do, and i do it

Edit: how many heropoints does this maguuma thingy have? i hope enough so that i dont have to farm the rest of tyria

As far as I understood. The jungle alone would have enough points for the entire specialisation reward track. You might want to check the red posts in this thread though.

The way I read it, Colin did say the core HP are not needed, but if you have them, your already boosted towards the goal. 200hp more or less in core, means 60 for elite unlock plus what ever else is needed after that towards the other unlocks.

i am sure alts will be easier. For one, your mastery are account bound, meaning moment in the jungle will be easier. Two, you will have a good idea where HP even are.
The third, though is a theory, is that we really have no real number data above 60. If you level your character naturally, that means most likely collecting core HP too, which gives a boost to what you need already.
Also, 400 I believe is the number given to max the whole thing, but atm, that line supposed to have weapons and skins and such. If they are at the end of the line, means less points to just use Elite.

I am still happy giving them $100 for my expansion. I am still getting everything they said I will, and in fact, I bet I am getting more.

Also when they release things down the line, that was not mention, does that mean your going to pay them more. “You never said this be in the expansion that you added, here take more money”

I’ve read some pretty valid and well put points from both sides of the fence, no need to derail it with fictional over-exaggeration and belittlement.

People are already over exaggerating with the HP grind.
Actualy, GW2 is the only MMO that allow you to get your BiS gear BEFORE the expac launch.
No level cap increases. No level locking behind instanced dungeons.
Insta lvl 80 revenant with tomes.

The counterpart is… HP. Consider it as the new XP for your elite spec. What’s wrong with that?

Because it is inherently different from XP prior to 80. You could do pretty much anything you like to earn that XP. This HP requirement forces you to do one thing——map exploration grinding.

So if we need 160 HP to unlock the traits part of our spec… that means 16 challenges. Not 160 or 1600.
16
Where’s the grind again?

Because the requirement is 40HP.

16HP means I probably can do it by exploring two maps. Kinda annoying but still okay.
40HP means I have to it over all 4 maps and there is a large chance that they are located at hard-to-reach positions that require mastery. Then I have to grind mastery and then grind exploration before I can unlock my skills/traits.

and how many hp does the main character you want in the jungle have? Mine sitting on 200 so i am pretty much a scrapper now, once release get here.

Making old content, Obsolete (Hero pts)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TJgalon.5012

TJgalon.5012

You have to level to 80 to get in to the jungle anyway.

By which point you will have no use for hero points except to progress elite specs.

There’s nothing preventing you from not playing the content you specifically powerlevelled to gain access to.

Core hero points, since the latest change to them, were not useful for anything but world completion anyway. Now they give you a little head start on your elite specs if you pick them up while leveling.

They weren’t really supposed to replace the need to do challenges in the new maps, and were never really designed for that purpose.

also am, we know that 60 is needed for elite skill starting. Atm unsure what that gets us, or how much after that, but 60 normal hp while leveling in PvE areas is pretty easy, and when you go to the jungle, the +10 will help speed you ahead too.

TJgalon.5012

They have been posting this stuff in blogs for months dude.

They’re not devaluing existing content. They’re setting a precedent for elite specs as relevant to content

An elite spec cost 400 hero points. This is a hard number we know now. This is an inherant part of that system. HoT challenges grant 10 because they wanted to ensure people could actually play nothing but HoT to gain them.

Of course it isn’t designed to allow you to entirely skip progression in new maps. That would be ridiculous. People would literally be saying “why would I waste my time doing hero challenges that don’t give me anything?” and the thread would be just as long and angst ridden as this one.

In stead they built a system in which mastering all of the optional core points means you can skip half of the new ones. Moving forward, you’ll likely see that system continue. You will never have enough hero points to instantly unlock an elite spec, but you’ll always have options in terms of how much of the content you want to do.

Like core world completion because it’s easy and there are more zones? Fantastic! That means you can skip half of the HoT challenges.

Don’t like the first elite spec? FANTASTIC save your ero points for the next one.

Making a comparison between the value of core content and HoT in terms of character progression is simply flawed thinking. Core content is intentionally unchanged, it is intentionally easier, and it is intentionally paced for leveling first and world completion as a secondary goal. HoT, and all content going forward is specifically built, progression wise, around the elite spec system.

Core specs aren’t considered optional. They’re considered “mastering your core class”

Elite specs, however, are optional and exclusive to one another

If you’re mad about devaluing old content, why aren’t you mad that taking an elite spec makes you drop a trait line? Why aren’t you mad every time they release another stat set for gear? Will you be mad when the next elite spec releases and you have to choose between them?

Having ten point challenges do nothing to devalue old content. You need to be 80 to get in to the jungle. If you’re 80, you have your core specs completed. now you can choose to do a lot of simple challenges, a lesser number of harder ones, or a mixture between the two. The entire system is designed so that the core content retains value by making sure all those extra hero point actually do something for you character besides being traded to miyani.

A HoT hero challenge is worth 10 points. A base-game hero challenge is worth 1 point. For anyone who hasn’t already completed the existing challenges, they serve absolutely no purpose. Why waste your time doing things for 1 point, when you can just go to the jungle and do things for 10 points? “Devaluing” doesn’t get any more black and white than that.

The reason for this, was to make it that anyone who just wanted to focus on jungle content, and not core tyria can still earn the hp needed to gain all that on a charcter. If you did core tyria points, you have like 200 hp or so bonus, giving you quite a good head start. It also unsure what all HP will be used for atm. If you needed to do all 200+hp in core for every character people be upset. People are already upset that they need to do the few in the jungle. Besides, was not the core HP sorta devauled when they made level 80 enough points to max your self anyways?

I wouldn’t mind “progressively” unlocking the elite spec on one of my characters, but doing the same grind over and over on all my alts? How did they overlook this, lol.

That because on a alt, it be much easier, mastery unlock will do it. There also the fact we don’t know what needs to be done, so calling it a grind or not is kinda hard to say too.

At the same time, after someone else mention it, in the beta we never say any HP, so we really unsure where they are located, how easy / hard, so till release, over worrying on this, might not be good.

HoT does continue where the story left off in Living Story Season 2. When the expansion comes out, you can take your character (unsure if any thing other then level 80, and getting your self to what I assume will be the Siliverwastes) will be needed to point them towards the new areas. New players starting would be best to go through the game normally or be confused by the story.

I wonder what was wrong with the topic already made?
also, 400 points is not quite right. Colin said to start you only need 60, how far that gets you who know, but any left over hp after maxing out the core traits first, is a bonus towards that. Plus jungle hp give you 10 points each.

My biggest problem with it is this, why am I being forced to unlock core specializations that I never use in order to get to my Elite Spec? What if I never use Zeal on my Guardian so I’ve avoided spending hero points on that core specialization. Why am I being forced to unlock trait lines I will never use anyway? Makes no sense.

It a elite skill that why. You need your core understanding to develope into a elite.

Can we stop calling people who went out and did entire world completion on their alts just to prepare for this “casual/lazy/want everything handed to them/whatever.”

I think the disparity here is what’s really awkward and shocking. It’s like, what’s the point of doing normal hero challenges now when one challenge in the jungle gives you more points than entire non-Orr maps in central Tyria

Anet is deliberately making the real world into a free-to-play realm, minimizng it’s value to veterans.

Which is a silly thing to do with 90% of available content.

Their goal is to make the old world unattractive so veterans buy the expansion. Levelling alts, however, can only be done in the old world. Perhaps they dislike altitis?

The jungle does look awesome. But it does seem really odd to give ten times the HPs in the jungle. It introduces a vertical progression typically reserved for trinity MMOs to GW2, which was all about horizontal progression – the HPs are just levels, essentially. Pre expac, I could go nuts in Queensdale for days grinding out events if I wanted (Queensdale is still one of my favourite areas of the game).

What if I don’t like the jungle? What if I like it for a while and then prefer the mustiness of the old world to the endless greenery? Why can’t I get the same progression in the old world at even an approximate pace? It’s jungle overdose time.

(The jungle could be awesome, but as Fawlty Towers put it):

BBasil Fawlty: So, uh, this is your new menu.
Colonel Hall: [reading] Duck with orange; duck with cherries; duck surprise.
Mrs. Hall: What’s duck surprise?
Basil Fawlty: Er… that’s duck without orange or cherries.
Colonel Hall: I mean, is this all there is – duck?
Basil Fawlty: Umm… yes… done, of course, in three extremely different ways.
Colonel Hall: And what do you do if you don’t like duck?
Basil Fawlty: Ah, well, if you don’t like duck, uhhh, you’re rather stuck.

more or less, I think it worth more, because some players do not, or have not, done all the hero challenge in the core world, and are trying to not force that old content. It was nice of them I think.

Honestly, I think this is a very good thing. This system encourages you to fully explore the jungle while still allowing you to make up some of the difference with central Tyria mastery points.

They’re called ELITE specializations for a reason guys. It’s part of the progression. I’d much rather have this than some stupid gear grind. This way, instead of just powercreeping up, you’re gradually unlocking some new skills, traits, skins, and runes.

No, you won’t have your Elite Spec fully completed on day 1 (well, maybe you will if you go hard enough), but I’m pretty sure that’s the POINT. It gives you something tangible to work towards while still enjoying the expansion. If you people consider this grind, it means you consider simply playing the game a grind. If that’s the case, why are you still playing?

For one character I’m sure it’ll be fine. But it depends on how much content there is in HoT – we have four new zones and no way of knowing how much landmass we’ll actually have to play with. The cynic in me thinks this requirement is to compensate for what isn’t going to be a lot of content by time-gating access to elite specs with this many HPs.

You need 60 hp after all is unlock on your character. level 80 already nets you all that more or less. any extra goes towards the other. so if you just did level 80 and that it, you can easily do 6 jungle hero challenge and bam elite time. True, unsure how easy 6 will be, but in the beta, I recall at least 3 in easy reach, though I explore more then worry about them.

One of the attractions of HoT for me was being able to run my new elite spec through the new content. Now you are saying that I have to complete the whole of the content before I can unlock the spec fully? So I have to run a kitten toon through most of the new content if I want to use one of the new weapons for my toon? You were smart (and shady) to announce this AFTER you did the pre-order.

How many hero points, on the class you want to do this with, do you have left over?

Does this mean that come HoT, my toons can just do Hero challenges in Maguuma jungle to be able to use the elite spec, or do I need to go do all the other HP in the rest of the world and the ones in Maguuma just to be able to use the elite spec?

Somehwere on like page 6 i belive, Colin mention that you do not need any core hero points, as the jungle give you all the point you need, but the core ones give a boost.

I think what GW2 did is totally fair. Practically having a new class available right away would cheapen it. As you play the game you’ll unlock your new spec naturally.

But for alts, it will be a big task. Unless getting those new items in WvW is pretty fast.

It’s the timing that’s the problem. They waited until 3 days before launch to tell and if there had not been a thread asking, we may not have known until after launch. I think the timing has made the problem worse and understandably so. Especially since players were vocal about their intent to play the elites on day 1 and had been asking for the number of points for weeks now.

Though from what I read, Elite can be played day 1, just wont be able to have the entire line finish on day 1. Or maybe you can with the extra hero point earn in the world, some of it still in mystery and I am glad for that.

The elite skill in the picture posted in this post shows that the elite skill is unlocked pretty close to the end. How many raid groups will accept a player who doesn’t have their elite skill unlocked? What about dungeon or fractal groups?

Granted, I’m not sure how accurate that picture is. Daredevil isn’t in the list to the right and during the beta we were given level 80 characters so I don’t know where that picture itself came from and could have been edited.

Some players will want to play fully unlocked characters (and by unlocked, I mean all skills and traits, not the skins and weapons).

The dev them self said “You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.” It hard to piece all the answer to get cause of how chaos the forum are atm, but it seem I will be able to use my elite day 1, and people are saying they can’t, it kinda odd, lol./
