So how would you do it, seeing how, the free players had to wait at least three years before even getting this shot. Also now that they do get it, they are very limited. They can’t even get daily chest or buy gems using gold. They can’t give away stuff to other, and the TP is limited. and on top of all the other restrictions.
All stuff you never have to worry about and still don’t at this time. A good tip i see, figure out how much you bouth the game for, and divide that cash by the months you have played, see if you get a good value out of it. While i started late, even if I did buy the game three year ago, i think i was well compersted, i mean we did receive something like 40ish updates and tons of support during that time.

the small gold fee in the trading post helps keep things a little honest and not a copper war, with removing and relisting a hundred time. Plus if you really trust the player like I do with my partner, we just send each other it via mail and you can list up to 5 or 6 item that way to. We done it a lot for dye, or just sell cause she trust i set a better price, or a eye on the price for item i sell a lot.

Ultimate Dominator, there a title I like to get, sounds awesome, i bet it super easy (i say this after checking and seeing it not. also i see i not hit tier 2 of 5 yet, lol)

I get how the mastery system would be beneficial… Especially one based upon progressing within the raid. My issue is Gliding and mushroom mastery can only be earned via HoT. Therefore excluding all core players from being able to progress past certain points within raids.

Core players will literally be unable to walk into the Raid – the door is in the expansion lands… Masteries aren’t their first hurdle xD

Then that creates an even MORE fundamental issue… I know just in my guild alone several people who won’t be getting HoT. Will there ever be Raids getting added to Core?

You think raids are something that is easy to do for anet? doesn’t have a big cost of resources or anything? It’s a tall task for anet, so its coming in the xpac. I don’t see this as an issue.

well you make a fine point, but yeah thats what it boils down to, core is done. they expect everyone who wants to do new stuff to buy the latest expansion.
They only leave in wvw and pvp because it will cripple either mode

It’s not really a valid point, it’s the norm for the industry, side from bug fixes and balancing, core games generally go on the back burner to bring new and exciting content. I haven’t purchased HoT yet because of lack of content, I’m happy to see something I might enjoy is being rolled into the xpac, I’m starting to find reasons why I should buy it now.

Well I for one would expect ANet to extend a reasonable price for those of us who already own the original game instead of committing fraud. The expansion is only worth $10-$15 tops and they are charging the same price for the expansion with the core game. So in general if you already had the core game they should give you the expansion free instead of double charging you.

First of all, look up fraud, cause I think it means something other then what you think. 2nd, HoT is coming with a lot of content, that so far, most we know, some not yet, and in future updates just like core gw2 of the past. 3rd, no one forcing you to buy the expansion if you do not want it. You can continue to play like normal with no changes.

The biggest issue for me is that I just think ANET is a company with very few and very poor ideas for where this game is going…looking at you Berzerker spec!

The business model is poor too, for example if they made the expansion 25 a 30 euro’s there would have been less/no qq and the sales would have been high. Now 60% of players is “mad” and probably about 20% is moving on to another game and 20% blindly pre-ordered. I remember not long ago ANet saying, that if they ever did expansion for GW2 at all, it would be priced somewhere along the 10$ range.

I was stoked about HoT, but I’m going to hold off and wait for a sale.

Consider it like this. Bank tabs and bank tabs equal about 2,000 seperately.
1200 for 2 bank, 800 for 2bag slot. the 10 keys and 30 dye are sorta a bonus, with it being a chance at something nice, (true range may ruin it, but you never know too)

The way I see it, I do nt pay a sub. I played this game for something like 700 hours in the almost year I had it, and I had a ton of fun. I even help my gaming partner enjoy it much more then she ever had in the 3 years or so she had it. So we donate, get 10$ worth of gems, and buy a cute mini or a outfit or something.
The tools, the bags, they are there if we want them to ease the game play but so far, nothing in the shop is needed to enjoy the game. (though one might argue the ls2 or charcter slots, but that personal taste). If you wish to donate to the game, do it, if not, don’t but I really see no point in this thread.

Most of the ap comes from just doing things over and over again like slayer and pvp and wvw and such. At least as I try to earn Ap it how i see it, I’ve already seen allthe points in Tyria at least once, and everything i done, i’m still under 5k. A lot of stuff is either playing new classes / races and the crafting too. nt sure how that makes you a better player, lol.

It funny, my gaming partner and I have recently started on goals of earning AP. Though while we still kinda low compare to some of your guys score you mention, we are hardly what you call elite also if going by AP value., lol.

I would be careful, as good intention sometimes could still be wrong.

yup, for less then 2$ a month, that is some good times to be had.

It sure seems like Hot is offering a lot to us, more then I see mention and on top of that, stuff not mention yet, but is coming. There also all the future updates to come that will have content and who knows what else. The price might be a little steep compare to other, but i feel the price is a bargain on the fun.

As far as I read you can send items, they just not allowed to send anything them selves.

I don’t know if someone thought about that (i don’t rode all posts here) but imagine a situation (especially Arena Net). f2p guy get a gold no matter how he get it and this guy have a normal account too. From this normal account he can place one iron ore for 100g 28s 03c (to know that he posted it). He can buy this one iron ore witch his f2p account and in that way he get money on his normal account. The other thing is if you have f2p account and a trusted friend with normal account you can give him a money in way like i written before and he can buy you as a gift something from gem store. Sorry if you already noticed that before me and sorry if i written something wrong i am not an expert in english.

I think it been suggested, but I am pretty sure there our filters in place to watch the market, more so now, and that might be why the market is limited for the F2P, makes them easier to watch a few things then all of them.
Also I do not know how the market works for Free, so it could be different too.

I’ve gone through Lotro and Swtor converting to f2p. Never had an issue with free players, except where they were trying to do some group event and couldn’t because they were locked out…inconvenience more than anything. We added many good/long term f2p players to our guild ranks in those games.

The only issue I’ve ever had with converting to this model is the gold spammers, and it’s already happening here. I logged into Lion’s Arch this morning and was immediately /w about a site that sells precursors. Ugh. Swtor was inundated with gold spammers, and Bioware was horrible about shutting them down. I hope Anet is more vigilant.

I’ve only been here for 3 months, and bought the game when it was on sale for $15. If it wasn’t for that sale, I wouldn’t have tried this game out. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who passed this game up because they couldn’t try it for free beforehand. With this change I can see some long term players settling in here. Some will come and go but some will stay, and that’s healthy for GW2 in the long term.

Was it a one time whisper or did it repeat a lot? 30sec per whisper is the restrition on free account.

I agree, it’s pretty bad value, especially when you consider you don’t even get a char slot to play the new class that comes with the expansion, essentially making it a $60 expansion.

while technically you do not need a char slot, or you can earn enough gold in a decent time to buy it, if I am not mistaken, preordering now does get you a char slot to use, 2 if you buy the more expensive version. It why I went with the $100 deal. bet value for my buck.

That was over 2 years ago, now they are focus on the content of an expansion, to incress the world size and how we interact in the world.

No your not, you choose to donate, that not the same as people forced to pay 15$ a month to keep their character and game alive. I know i am not saying this the best, but gem buying as a choice should not make you, or make other belive your owed more, cause you get a values out of using them too how ever you use them.

Well the way I see it, it makes it hard for all though player who bought them before, but all, 100 slots is almost to much already since you can easily salvage / deposit right from your character and there always shop litter around all the open area.

I understand trying to keep everyone on an even ground, but I don’t think that rewarding trust and money spent would insult anyone. As it stands a veteran player that made multiple gem purchases is only worth as much as a new player that just decided to buy HoTs. That’s not really encouraging people to spend money in my opinion.

If there’s no appreciation for being both a long time player and devoting your money to the game, then what’s the incentive to continue to do so? If you’re only ever considered the exact same as a free account (except that they get screwed over out of one time events, such as SAB, which I still have to ask why, especially having in mind that Anet sold an infinite continue coin and then took it down permanently over a year ago), why not spend your money with the competition instead?

you donated to the game, but using i bought gems, as a reason to think your better, that just not right at all. How many hours have you put into the game, divide that by the amount you bought the game, and see how far that $ took you.

I am wearing it, it looks neat on the Charr character I just rolled to play with the new guests the game got. I hope they decide to buy HoT too, cause so far, they are having fun getting their feet wet in the game.

So arena net did it different from what ever SWTOR is. As you can see, this game is gw2, not that, and they decided to treat the free user different, and who knows, that kindness may in tern, be new sales. I for one, am glad to not have the restrictions, as it would make it less enjoyable to me.

GW2’s F2P model is still too restrictive. There’s no point restricting players from going to Lion’s Arch or Divinity’s Reach by level. Gold spammers can’t use map chat anyway.

It’s to slow down RMT spammers from going to locals full of players at specific locations. They can’t roll a character, run into the race city to the TP or Bank and start spamming in local. Sure it doesn’t take long to get to 10 from scratch but it is yet one more way to make it less trivial to crank out another RMT spammer who will get shut down within minutes of spouting.

Thing is, this may actually make it worse. By making it free to play, botters/spammers/RTMs (they’re all the same, really) can make literately thousands of accounts, bot them up to lvl 10/35/60/80, go to la, and start spamming the crap out of /s in a few spots (tp, bank, mystic forge). They’ll put a few bots in the highly populated areas. Sure they may get shutdown within minutes, but they have so many burner accounts, it’s trivial for them. They may even find a way to transfer gold via the TP.

Scripting this kind of stuff is easy. Anet took away the biggest barrier to entry for gold spammers – paying for the game.

Except for the very small amount of bad apples, they can only send a whisper once every 30 seconds and can’t use map chat. A few reports and block and bam, that chacrter done and the can’t even do it as well as a hacked account or what ever. On top of how ever that, i bet if a free account gets a few report, the system automactally takes care of it.

I guess a way to look at it also is this, if you were going to buy the game, you have by now. Nonthing really going to make it easy for new people to go, I should get this over this. So Anet giving them a water down, heavy restricted version, to try it. If they like it, they can upgrade to a pay account, if not, at least they try it, and know now for sure they wont buy it.

The outfit not to bad, I like the dyeing i did to it, and it makes my character i just started help stand out a bit more. Also since it Char, I think it looks good on it. It is my first char, where I am more interested in the Savaria(sp?), Humans and Norm.

I am hopeing gem prices will drop ater the birthday sales when people buy gems to trade in for gold.
