Guardians, mesmers, elementalists and thiefs have skills that help to mitigate attacks
Dont forget warriors
we have block just like guards, also Endure Pain is excellent to mitigate.
Aside from maybe sword block it’s all a huge dps loss.
And I was mentioning group damage mitigations.
PvE in this game is not based off healing, it’s based off damage mitigation through dodging, reflecting, blocking, absorbing, et cetera.
Healing power based builds are for PvP of sorts where you can’t mitigate 100% of incoming attacks.
Guardians, mesmers, elementalists and thiefs have skills that help to mitigate attacks, guardians being more commonly used due to versatility in that area of skills.
Trash any PvE build not based off maximum damage.
Platinum level post of this subforum.
I wonder what people did at launch…
We dodged, kited, and so on. Early players were playing for fun. These days, they seem to be playing because they need 3 billion of some item to craft some pink junk, so it’s all about repeating the same thing over and over, with minimal effort. Fun is not a goal, let alone a requirement. And if other players’ fun interferes with your grinding, you let them die or kick them.
It’s easy to blame players, but really, if the encounter design and combat system wasn’t so exploitable, the game’s population wouldn’t be shifting so much towards exploiters and grinders (or, at least, it would keep that kind of player out of the dungeons).
Fun is subjective. I don’t find “kiting and dodging” ad infinitum fun, I find knowing the encounter and playing it the most efficient way fun.
I honestly fail to see how all the clueless stuff everyone was doing early days of GW2 can be fun for a long time. Dungeons don’t change themself, we have to do the same stuff over and over, it’s only obvious that people want to trivialize and quicken the run.
The novelty feeling fell off and you can’t blame ANet for this. There certainly are questions unsolved about some of their decisions but this point is natural.

Aw this is cute.
OR! Or I could just afk all the events and make you do the work for me.
Sounds good to me. Already at 4 ore stacks from leeching. This is what it must feel like for those open world event farmers when they stray into a dungeon. It feels glorious.
God bless America.
Dwayna is fun until you get a large enough mob that you dont need to dodge anymore. Melandru doesnt scale properly which in a way is good because its boring with a zerg. Mark 2 golem is always worth doing for extra dragonite on multiple chars. But the problem is finding these events with few people and them having set timers. That and they are mind numbingly kitten when doing them in a zerg.
None of the temple bosses scales properly, unless increasing only hp is correct.
Grenth wants to call bullkitten on you.
Edit: now rereading you said “bosses” which makes your statement correct but I meant that there’s more to Grenth priest event and the adds scale very properly.
Why’d you do any world bosses other than temples for ore though. They give the most and their chains are least mind-numbing.
At the very least Grenth can be a funny dps test when the mob upscales the priest event into oblivion and then proceeds to wipe. And I kinda enjoy Dwayna bosses but maybe that’s personal.
Guardian’s doesn’t make sense taking in PvE, or at least, definitely not dungeons to me. seems more suited for PvP and WvW for those already running meditations. Shelter is huge mitigation for dungeons imo.
i thought since Litany was a medi it’d be instant as well, buuuut nope. has a 1s cast time.
The 1+ second(s) casttime just seems to be the thing for guardian heals. As for its usefulness in dungeons: I class it under situational. If you’re nuking the crap out of a large number of critters, it might actually come in handy. Then again, it probably won’t compensate for 2 seconds of blocking with a lot of incoming hits.
What might be interesting, but mostly for the pvp croud again, is wether it triggers Monk’s Focus or not.
Well actually ranger isn’t half bad either.
Party wide healing at no loss is always welcome.
I’m not entirely sold on this one. I happen to doubt wether this will actually supersede the usefulness of the healing spring water field and condition removal.
It’s a field so it might override your fire fields. Plus the condition removal is cool but there’s not much fights there where conditions are applied constantly in a way it cleanses it.
Then again there’s not much fights where you might have a major use for that new sort of constant healing as well. More of a luxury safety skill.
Am I the only one that considers the engineer one to be really funny? Though I admit it will mostly shine in a wvw or pvp environment.
It looks complicated, it will most likely be bugged.
If it’s just a downed transition check then I doubt it will be.
If it’s a check for hp below 1% like description says then oh boy runes of vampirism anyone?
Well actually ranger isn’t half bad either.
Party wide healing at no loss is always welcome.
Not sure if serious.
No.. I am serious
Great in WvW too.
As someone stated the staff is a support weapon. I’ve been plying this way since BWE. It’s extremely effective support. I don’t care how much damage I do – that’s not my role. Honestly the fact that I do any damage at all is just a bonus. Let the other 4 people damage while I keep them cleansed, rez them, buff them and use whatever I can to make the fight easier be it a projectile reflect or stability.
All my symbols heal and they are all huge so when I drop Symbol of Swiftness I’m giving you swiftness to get out of the way of attacks, healing you with 5 pulses and giving you a Light combo field for cleansing or retaliation – so you do more damage and receive less. Meanwhile Orb of light heals whoever it passes by and I can detonate it for more healing. Empower gives Might and a heal at the end. And if you creatively use Line of Warding you can not only stop following enemies during runs but assist kiters or protect the range camp from attacks. I heal you when I dodge, you all have my Virtue of Resolve passive heal – which is stronger and stacks with Regen as it’s a separate buff. My Mega support Elite lasts 10 seconds longer, which is a lot when you can spam Heal Area. And I have 3 group cleanses not including cleases that happen with Light Field.
Why Toughness and Boon duration? Well.. I need to be alive to heal and rez you don’t I? I already have plenty to cleanse, so Vitality is moot. With Boon Duration I get longer regen and protection. And yes I am lacking on damage, so the longer I can keep my might or fury or whatever boons are flying around the better off I am. Granted, it may take me a year to kill something, but I’ll still be standing.
As I stated, I was a healer for 6 years, this is the role I am comfortable in, it’s a role I enjoy.
So when you see a Guardian with a Staff… assume this is why.
Really high AP values involve PvP tho so you can usually bet on those to be able to dodge.
No stable correlation of course.
God bless.
Theres a more recent thread where some1 asked support and gaile confirmed that it was perfectly fine to sell slots.
Yup, just couldn’t find the link.
Simply put, riposte will block all ranged attacks for the duration if you’re away from the target but for melee attacks, it’ll only block the first melee attack.
Not exactly, riposte stops working the moment your character tries to retalliate which requires him to be in the riposte attack max range.
Which sometimes allows to cheese through multiple/multihit melee attacks.
You can end up with a prematurely finished riposte and your own attack not hitting trying to do that tho.
I’d like to see where they said that. Got a link?
And then some support replies and probably some other stuff I don’t remember maybe someone else can link.
Anyway. Anet stance on this didn’t change since GW1.
Another thing would be to use more defensive utilities until you improve, and then switch them out for offensive utilities one by one. It’ll take longer finish each phase, but if you’re taking signet of stamina even if you make mistakes your endurance will refill very quickly. In phase 3 I recommend playing it safe by doing eviscerates after double dodging his life-steal to get your endurance back.
I use Energy Sigil on OH sword so my endurance is never totally out except when I do really bad on phase 3, I’ll try the eviscerates as I do start running out of dodges in that phases, GS 3 and Sword 5 help keep me at 1 endurance at least pretty easily. I use Heal Sig instead of Surge for added DPS via Deep Strikes and to outlive the 3 bleeds if I really mess up and fail to dodge Lupi Swipe in phase 2, so it cuts into my DPS a lot if I pop my Burst skills, so I would rather avoid them.
I also want to avoid dipping into energy sig or doly sig or balanced stance, they hurt my DPS a lot which just prolongs the fight so I have a higher chance to mess up. Endure Pain is enough for me to go through transitions pretty well which is why I bother with it.
Still wondering about sigil stacking for him, I’d assume Blood Lust for warr and perception for mes/guard, not sure about ele, the other 4 classes I don’t really care too much about. Thief is the only other one I envision I’ll do a solo lupi with.
Perception for everyone would work just alright.
It’s much less than a minute since you only need to kill the thralls for loot.
I posted a similar thread on killing bunch of regular risen in Arah versus using explosives to kill them.
All in all, it makes a lot of sense to kill those in your usual casual runs now when magic find is account bound and you get a plenty of a boost to the drops. Just discuss it with your party beforehand, people might agree. If not – well whatever, carry on.
I used to run stuff in my newbie carrion gear on warrior with double swords to annoy people, but people either didn’t notice or thought it was cool :’(
Most path 2 sellers do solo but they usually exploit alot and skip lupi. There are many legit sellers in rT, HC, DnT that solo the paths and sell. Just because you’ve heard rumours that people get kicked so the slots can be sold doesnt mean its true. I think you will find that the instances of that happening are about 1%.
Anet specifically said its ok to sell this service as long as no exploits are used and no scamming comes into play.
We could probably swap the whole subforum for this post and be okay :’)
in GW you’re basically at the mercy of the RNG. Get lucky and you don’t get stunned at all, get unlucky and you’re hit with 8 CCs in a row right after you’ve used your stunbreaker.
the fok you talkin’ bout m8
TA= worst dungeon ever . I hate condtions, I just hate them. When I see condis on me , I panic . No lie . At least when you take physical dmg , you know that it’s over and won’t kill you randomly , but condis are nasty and they stick on you until they drain all your blood .
soloin’ ta is fun
Warrior:
Safe bet. Always high DPS, good team utility (Fury, Banners, Might), never be frowned upon. There aren’t many cons to a warrior except for that if you run without decent guardians that know how to blind stuff and reflect, you’d be better off running the elementalist.
Which makes it not so safe of a bet at all.
Yet what’s said of other classes is very true. Mesmer is mostly a feedback/mimic bot, Elementalist posesses one of the highest dps values available yet offers a plenty of versatile utility, thiefs have less general utility but can use stealth.
Warriors provide fury/banners and hope to get carried.
Safest bet would be a guardian in my personal opinion, but you didn’t list one.
Pay me 40g and all you have to do is enter the instance.
Dolan be charging hella dolla.
Kiting is clearly an exploit, I’ll be adding this to the list thanks Wethospu.
God bless.
i.e. do what my post suggested and then slowly buy out exotic armor+weapons with tokens and trinkets with gathered gold.
You should ask SynSity how much gold he spent on weapons and sigils (and repairs) just for soloing Lupi.
He might be the only one to compete with me. And i spent over 1500g on Lupicus.
I am not sure I comprehend.
If you push him around constantly between attacks perfectly, he will only use single target drains and aoe drains. Single target drain should cooldown before you regenerate even half of your endurance, but given he kitten s while pushing and slight cast delays and you eviscerate off cd, you should have enough endurance for a second dodge after the first one you gain from eviscerate.
AoE drains are harder, they cooldown before any of your blocks, you could block first three with sword-shield-sword, but after that you’d need to use adrenalin surge to stay alive.
All of this defeats any purpose of the whole effort. Just use greatsword and energy sigil.
edit: wait, I actually didn’t think of the energy regenerating during the AoE. That might ease the pressure and complicate the calculations, but this still should require redundant amount of eviscerating and survivability gearing/utilising.

You’ll need him to get around 8-12 to make his aoe lifesteal oneshot an elementalist I believe. Well, more one-hit killing attacks would add some challenge, but since he gets tankier with each grub it kinda kills the thrill.
Now what made me interested, if you get his damage high enough, would there be a point where he would one-shot himself with the barrage? I mean, his defence raises by a constant 10%, but the reflection damage is amplified by critdamage, so…
His defence increases more than his damage Im afraid, we already tried a 25 stacks feedback once before, the formula is linear and just decreases FB damage per grub
I should have thought you guys tried that already.
So it’s either max reflect damage mulptipler combined < Lupicus damage reduction, either the buff scales differently for his attack and defence, I guess?

Anyone wanna give me some pointers on 11k hp thief or ele? I can boss just fine when I know where the attacks are coming from. Having trouble with trash runs and bosses with ads like end boss of SE p3 or some other place when it’s time to stack.
Well, thief is simple, you blind the adds to fight them and stealth to skip.
I don’t really know what’s the problem to run past stuff on elementalist given how mobile those things are, like, you can even get a mist form if everything is terrible and just ask others to wait a minute to swap the utility.
Trouble on fighting adds on an ele though. Well, I dunno, try using a focus? Though elementalist has a plenty of utility across all the weapons, chill, blind, projectiles nullify/reflect.
Get your armor to 2,500 to 3,000 range will help your survival during melee.
stuff
Every time I see you post, my sight gets locked on the words “PVE Burning Build”.
And I just spend a few moments, looking at them. Thinking.
I still like his proposition though.
15 AR should get you through 2x FotM even if you fail some dodges anyway.
@Zen
Devs don’t seem to quail in fear of doing something because players run something alot of times, else we’d all still be crammed in CoF Path 1.That’s quite the reaction.
Look, I didn’t mean to hit a sore spot. There’s no shame in finding yourself caught up in the Grind. It’s insidious like that. Designed to be insidious like that, even. But once you’ve realized you’re not having fun, do something about it. Branch out into other activities or take a break for a while. Whatever you can do to get back to doing something because you’re actually in the mood for it, and get out of the routine of logging on and doing something automatically.
I promise, that is the single best you can do for yourself when playing an MMO.
Read what you type.
You’re basically telling people they’re having fun in a wrong way.
You used to get banned for things like running over the boat in Arah
This is really doubtful but I don’t know the truth for sure so I won’t argue.
That will really have to come with expirience.
Just by watching the monsters you’ll eventually learn to tell the dangerous moves and ways to evade/sidestep/disengage/etc them.
Meanwhile, dodges and greatsword spin are your main survivability. Don’t be too afraid to move around more than experienced people do during non-boss parts.
If all else fails, swap an utility for endurance regen signet/use an offhand warhorn (weakness+vigor on a single skill are slightly underrated and it got a blast finisher but having dps skills is a priority).
Welcome to the club.
ravioli ravioli give me the formuoli
Now then, to be honest and serious here for a moment, I do feel at times that reflects trivialise encounters more than they should. Watching something kill itself is absolutely fun, but yeah.
Not reflecting the aoe-hitting projectiles though is by no means a right way to adress the issue and would also hurt other game events completely beside the point of a boss killing itself.
I want to say I am impressed. Sadly I am not, I am just not happy after watching. Reason: Reflect abuse has been done before circumvents game design. Even If bosses were designed to be killing themselves, I call that boring design.
Recently I have adopted a stance: A net should Nerf reflects to not reflect on projectiles that turn into AoE. Fixes most reflect abuse. I can easily defend my argument with your own vids. This maintains the usefulness of reflects but enables bosses like GL to not be open for abuse. Now I do not know if that is feasible but they should do something.
Oh wait you’re actually serious.
Flying Lupicuses.
You can range lupicus without dodging.
Elaborate.
They could add an additional lupicus for every 20% health , so at the end you will have to fight 5 lupicus and the whole party will be forced to solo lupicus on their own .
I can’t believe atse made my morning but thanks.
Yissa is one tough girl. Managed to stay through like a half of Lupicus p2 in one of my terrible solos, not even kidding there.
For the gearing aspect: before you accumulate those ~1300 tokens from a dungeon, get rare berserker armor and weapon gear (30*9=2,70g) from trading post and masterwork trinkets (10*5=0,5g). Slot the armor with ruby orbs (10*6=0,6g). Cheap sigils for weapons are a huge variety, but when in doubt go for major air+bloodlust.
That’s as cost effectove as you can go (3,8g).
You need to chill.
I mean, noone even flamed you.
I just have to notice that this OP is like metaest post of this subforum.
Combines almost everything.
we have block just like guards, also Endure Pain is excellent to mitigate.
