^ You might’ve got hit by other reflected attacks instead of your own. I know it happens to me if I stand in front of the other people ranging Sparcus with his circle up. Got one-shotted by a warrior’s Killshot once, lol.

I think Mesmer GS auto isn’t a reflectable attack (but one of the weapon skills is? Not sure.)

Let say you’re a warrior with the Greatsword traits for might + 10% more damage. Does that work if you’re using the Fiery Greatsword summoned by the ele? Haven’t checked.

All this event requires is the map chat though. The other stuff you mentioned are just optionals that might make the event smoother. Considering there are many maps now that are organized and gets Gold after Gold, it kind of does reinforce their philosophy, without even vocalizing how effective it is already.

As for the OP, I think you should try to look for LFGs that ferry people in, than starting your own LFG that wants a ferry. Some maps clearly isn’t as organized as others. And if you aren’t getting a Silver or Gold first, that’s the cue to leave for another one.

Most of the bosses require similar skills you have to bring:
Kuraii – Bring stability/break stun moves. Try to be behind him to avoid AoE arrows.
Pyroxis – Usually have a group with Reflect Projectiles that ranges him safely on some hill. Good with Guardians and Mesmers.
Sparcus – Another boss that needs Reflect Projectiles and Stability (if you’re meleeing). There’s a platform that’s safe and never get targeted by Sparcus’s teleports.
Shruakk – Has tons of birds around him that does heavy retaliation damage. Use single target weapons only and throw Bird Feed AWAY from the boss.
Wiggins – Again needs reflect projectile moves for his normal pistol attacks and break stun if it does hit you. Usually the group lures him to a ramp and ranges him safely. You also need to make sure to run after him every 25% as he goes back to the middle.
Boomboom Baines – The only focus here is to call out and destroy Healing Turret ASAP. This is the only group that should only have DPS classes/lv80s to maintain with everyone else. Make sure to kill ads at the beginning of the fight and dodge the Big Bomb AoE she throws occasionally.

Lol, OP must be either one of those classes who only wants to have fun on those classes.

Like said it’s both a class but also player issue, mostly a player issue.

Player issue:
1. Experienced players keep seeing bad builds on these classes.
2. Inexperienced players keep using bad builds on these classes.

They obviously interact with each other and thus we see this requirement. You really can’t fix a player issue. As real people are almost infinitely more difficult to “fix” than something that isn’t sentient.

Rune of the Strength

Tachii.3506

I’ve already bought them and I can foresee a nerf coming for sure… ^^ :-[
As to where the nerfs are going to hit, it’s definitely the might duration and the bonus might be changed to 5% instead of 7%.

Didn’t Anet just buff the damage from 5 to 7%? It would seem silly (‘we don’t do whack-a-mole balancing’) to just change it straight back.

Also, it’s far from overpowered in PvE, so I don’t see why the heck they would change it there as well. But then again, Anet seems adamant on balancing the game on PvP but make most of the updates in PvE.

Uh, it was more than just 5%→ 7%. AFAIK this rune used to be bugged so the 5% doesn’t even trigger if you have a might stack. It also used to give less power, less might duration, and less % to trigger might upon getting hit.

The rune pretty much got an exponential increase in terms of usefulness. It went from never used to always used.

Dungeon Rewards might be a little too good.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tachii.3506

Tachii.3506

Keep in mind there will be less gold because of this (considering rewards are items). If more people can’t purchase precursors at that high of a price, I don’t see the TP flippers to have that much success continuing to increase the precursor price.

You’d have to wonder who are the players buying precursors? Can’t be the people that use real money to buy, since they’d rather buy the actual legendaries instead. I’d say most of the people buying precursors would fall into 2 categories: the TP flippers + people who farm everyday in dungeons and other activities for gold. These are the only 2 that’d have that much gold in the first place and affect each other on the pricing of precusors. The TP flippers won’t gain anything if nobody buys their stuff, so with less gold from the farmers, chances are there won’t have any profit increasing the price.

What I’d guess is more people will use the forge with more rares/exotics on the market. Perhaps the TP flippers will flip rares/exotics instead, but since there will always be more of them via dungeon runners, I can’t say they’ll be successful in that regard. With more forge attempts, there will be a bit more non-flippers selling precursors. Of course, the demand/supply for t6/precursors would also be a tricky one and impossible to predict.

Also skins and put gems Exchange out of reach for non TP speculators.

Not really. You can simply sell the rares/ectos/t6 for money. It also probably won’t increase precursor price considering there will be more rares and exotics on the market.

Actually, giving more T6 mats + rares/exotics should theoretically decrease the price of precursors and t6 mats.

Also the reward s/he suggested is more than 1g at the moment. 3 t6 mats is already 1g and including a rare/exotic item, that’s actually more lucrative than just a flat 1g.

Consequently this will decrease price of t6 and precursors, as more easily accessible rares/exotics means more mystic forge chances.

Crown Pavillion have improved in such a way now that an organized map can have no commanders at all but dedicated players who’d announce the HP of each boss to keep things balanced. TS/Raidcall/Mumble are also not needed as long as we have 6 or less individuals calling out HP for each boss.

The slowest bits feel like it’s just people who aren’t donating when everyone should donate 10s minimum for it to really speed up. That’s not a thing that can be improved, we just have to hope there are less cheap/lecherous people on the map willing to donate. (10s really isn’t that much at all considering even a world boss fight you need to waypoint which cost 2-4s and all you’re getting is like one chest and a daily rare chest).

Anyway the situation here is dungeons, so we’re just talking about builds in dungeons. There’s little relevance to say its viable for other settings when we’re exclusively talking about builds in dungeons for dungeons.

On slightly off-topic, coming from a long time thief player, I find warrrior to have massive HP already. Added to that is being a heavy armor class, 7%more HP from power trait, and/or 4 in Tactics that will still maintain party DPS while giving even more HP. Why do you need even more HP going valkyrie?

I don’t even understand why the hell people want to use that spot anyways. It’s terrible. Pretty much can never use FGS there (though ice bows get the job done either way lol). I personally like to LOS him in the nearby corner and burn him down, as it’s a lot more reliable and you can aggro him from anywhere instead of waiting for him to walk around the room.

That spot is immune to the rock AoEs. It means even if the pug team is all running PVT armor they will still get the job done since the bosses’ damage alone is negligible. I don’t mind the FGS stacking spots but I wouldn’t push pugs for that spot since I wouldn’t know if their DPS is enough before the rock AoEs starts to fall.

Respectfully, I disagree, Don. It may be easier, but I think that your “speed gain” is only seen in the short term, and you potentially lose speed in the long run.

As mentioned above, you can still shorten people’s names to 3-5 characters – the same amount of characters to type mes or guard. So typing-wise you don’t save time. The only time lost would be in the process of memorizing people’s names, which can vary from person to person. At worst, you might have to mouseover a person’s portrait or glance down at your chat tab.

My thought is this:

When you call a person by their class instead of their name, you are objectifying them. You don’t generate respect from a person you objectify. It being a pet peeve of others here as well, if they’re like me, they’re probably less prone to helping a person if they’ve been objectified by them.

The subtle acts that you use to weave a team together become the grease that helps it work smoothly. Being sociable, calling people by their names – even if it’s shortened – dropping smilies in chat at the right spots/times, thanking people, all encourage people to help each other out. Does it work every time? Certainly not, but instances of people being more willing to help you out will increase.

The benefits are longterm. If someone respects you, they’re more likely to go out of their way to work with you and help you out. If you ask something reasonable of them, they’ll probably agree. “Hey Don, do you have EA set up on your war? would you be able to use it? Thanks

Also consider that if you get in a spot of trouble, people who respect you are more willing to help out you. If they don’t respect you, they’re more likely to watch you suffer instead. If someone you don’t respect gets downed at mossman, do you think to yourself, “I’d better help him rally,” or do you think, “Well maybe he’ll do something smart and attack a wolf to rally. Hope he doesn’t expect me to walk over there and actually res him.”

The time I think you save is in generating a team that works together to make the run better, rather than 5 individuals who are just hoping to “get through” the dungeon. It’s just touching on human psychology. That’s where I think you gain in the long term.

There is no “in the long run”, because when we pug, 99% chances I will NEVER see them again. Pretty sure almost nobody goes out of there way to remember account names either (since you can have the same Sam but with different numbers). If they’re not going to talk back even if you asked them a question, calling them by their character name probably isn’t going to make any significant difference in the same run either.

Also, about objectifying, we do this all the time in real life. When we don’t know the name of people or their name is too long, we call them by their profession. Like “hey doctor/nurse/teacher/professor, etc”. Don’t think of that as objectifying people, it’s just easier to do so. Just like in real life, if it’s too difficult to pronounce, we tend to not call them anything so we won’t offend them. The same can be applied here, we don’t want to mispell or horribly give them some short name (I’ve been called Oddy which reminds me of some childish or mentally compromised person).

That said, aside from calling people by their classes, I’m quite open to say hi, smile emote when warriors call out banners, and so on.

tl;dr, please don’t be offended just because we call you by your class. I’ve been called countless times “thief you going to solo?” and it frankly isn’t remotely insulting to me.

Commanded Boomboom tonight, was quite fun again. We got Silver Medal first attempt followed by 6 Gold Medals before maintenance came up. I’ll say this: If you are strict in only allowing high DPS characters and no uplevels in Boomboom, while also calling out TURRET ASAP, Boomboom lost HP the fastest in my instance for 3 Medals.

The LFG tool was there to essentially get 6 Commanders on the map and ferry anyone else if we needed more people. If my party wasn’t full I always started a LFG to see if I can get more people in. Basically what was initially a map that lacked Commanders, we were hardcapped by the end (usually takes 5-10mins for new players to be ferried in).

The fun factor comes from the fact that a group of strangers at first were organized to beat 6 Bosses simulanteously while getting really, really good loot. I say ANet had improved on open world raids than the Marionette event we had before. And the whole anti-zerging theme here will make anyone who’s interested in good loot to join or create organized maps even if nobody knew each other initially.

I supose you do, I respect it, but honestly things couldn’t get more unexciting for me than the blitz.

Sure there are random rules that forbid zerging, but seriously when you kill any of those six bosses, do you feel more achieved than when you killed queensdale’s troll??

I used to kill the troll in queensdale while having breakfast, u know one hand in cofee and another in the mouse, doing it wasn’t exciting but had it’s right mood and momment. The blitz bosses fall in a blan middle ground, easy yet annoying s**t to get done.

I find queensdale and frostgorge to be an utter borefest. Players need no conscience for location placement, dodging, or even skill use. Literally everyone can autoattack with #1 and that’s about it.

So yeah, I feel more achieved than doing Queensdale. I for one almost never did those trains in the first place. It has no mood except the mood of being bored and not knowing what else there is to do in a game.

"Rangers Can't Play Their Class"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tachii.3506

Tachii.3506

This is the Dungeon Subforum. Which means there is exactly one way to play your class. If you do something else you are a noob.

Not really…though there are good ways and bad ways to play a class, especially when it comes to team play.

I wish we could have these discussions without all the rage and over-defensive passive-aggression.

I just wish someday the users in this forums realized is not a ranger’s fault if he wants to use a bow, and its not (entirely) the elitist’s fault if he wants his mates to play properly… it is the devs fault not to build a game where a ranger can play with a bow or a guardian as a defender or an elementalist using a staff or bla bla, you get the point. Game sucks (?)

Of course it’s partly the player’s fault. I think we can all agree there are some flaws by the developer’s part, but that by no means fully excuse the player for running an ineffective build. Because there’s ineffective builds for every class. A classic ineffective build is going all into the toughness trait line no matter what class you’re in over a power/precision/ferocity tree.

Now whether they find it fun to run a casual build is beside the point here. But some of the players are adamant into even believing their build is effective when it truly isn’t.

Plus, a full zerk with 6 in Critical Strikes + Fury has like what, 70-80% crit rate?

As Carpboy said, the most efficient purpose of S/P is the blind field and autoattack (it hits quite hard). Pistol whip need not be whipped repeatedly unless there’s a big attack coming. The blind field naturally will make you avoid all the normal attacks already (but also mitigates damage for your entire party as well).

Other than that, I’d only use Pistol Whip if:
1) I have signet of malice equipped and needs to heal.
2) A boss attack that will hit you regardless i you have a blind field up.
3) I have full initiative and the smoke field isn’t important for damage mitigation.

Lol I so agree on this, I could count with my fingers the number of players with ridiculously high AP that performed at least acceptably in dungeons with me.
While I find the best players are usually in the 3-8k AP range.

Hence why people have AP requirements that’s usually 3k+.

I’ve seen way too many people under 1k ap and clearly not knowing what to do expecting to be carried.

Just today I had a 500ap Warrior killing the acolytes in CoFp2 final boss before everyone was in position.

I can understand AP requirements in this aspect. Only reason I don’t write it is I don’t have enough space to, lol. I need to write “be experienced” and/or lv80s/speed run/path numbers/zerkers.

Not a sarcastic thread.

I know the living world forum section is mostly a place for the masses to whine or rage or criticize ANet for whatever reason, but not for me.

ANet really succeeded on the whole “anti-zerging?” theme that had plagued its previous Living World events. Remember then? We had a bunch of people complain about that too.

What I love about Boss blitz is it puts an emphasis on knowing each boss’s specific mechanics, and actually somewhat requires some level of skill and coordination for a successful Gold medal run.

And most importantly, the rewards for a coordinated and skillful run is top-notch. A total of 10 champ bags can be farmed in as little as 7-10minutes (including the time it takes to donate). I don’t think anything in this game so far has that fast of a farm. And because the fights still require some level of skill and coordination, I never feel like it’s too repetitive, but actually challenging just enough so that I still feel accomplished when we get gold.

PS: I mostly exclusively fight Boomboom with 10~ish people stressing the need for DPS builds and the focus on Turret and dodging.

I know a solid group in CoE when I can have everyone listen or understand NOT to aggro the champ wolf before the Agent does.

It shows:
1) There’s people who will actually read or know the easier mechanics for a successful run.
2) It shows there aren’t any pseudo-elitists who would say “lol just dodge it kitten” when it instantly does like 14k damage and ignoring the fact it is a pug run where the skill-base of everyone can be all over the place.

Unfortunately, as I pug all 3 paths of CoE on a daily basis, there will always be that one guy who thinks he’s above everyone else and aggro the champ like a boss. And everytime, everytime someone does that, at least 2 people drops. Now, we can say that “lol kitten those 2 sucks” or we can just say “wow, can’t you be a group player and just let us full DPS without having to worry about a ridiculously random high AoE move from the wolf?”

Still, when I see a competent CoE pug party, it’s a beautiful sight to behold. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen that often. I’d say maybe 1/10 pug runs I’ll finally be able to have a group that can burn p3’s Destroyer boss in one phase. Usually, 2 phases is the norm. 3 phases if there are 2 or more incompetent players. I might play the DPS guard role for p3 just so I can practice timing Aegis instead of seeing for the x amount of time someone was unaware of the AoE circle.

"Rangers Can't Play Their Class"

Much has been said already, but for my own opinion’s sake:

1) Anti-group behaviours: Point-blank shot that knockback an enemy when the other 4 is already meleeing it and doing DPS. Standing ridiculously far from the rest of the group and not getting boons and conversely not giving boons/buffs to the rest of the group.

2) Rarely has traits that actually improve DPS for the rest of the party. The whole selfish mentality isn’t the only thing exclusively seen in rangers, we have full signet warriors, D/D + P/P thieves that adds nothing to the party either, but at least they have better DPS by themselves than relying exclusively on range weapons.

3) Sole reliance on ranged weapons: To the point that even when stacked, they’ll be using a shortbow or longbow at melee range which is really bad DPS when even a Greatsword would be a better alternative (due to cleave and just the fact it’s a melee weapon).

Realistically the DPS difference between Strength and Scholar runes are negligible.

For any new beginning thieves I always recommend 3 in Acrobatics with the Power of Inertia trait. You get a good 1k more HP, an extra dodge, and some boon duration.

You also want a Break Stun utility (I prefer the signet). I recommend taking out Shadow Refuge (it has very little usage in PvE except in some really specific dungeon paths).

You also shouldn’t “spam” Pistol Whip. It’s only used if you want to deal damage + evade a heavy attack at the same time. All else considered, you would be using Black Powder most of the time to negate any normal melee hits (while Smoke Screen negate any range projectiles).

Please, no more Seasons

in WvW

Posted by: Tachii.3506

Tachii.3506

Bunch of these complaints goes back to inherent problems with WvW, not really the season. You’ll have “stale” matchups regardless if there was seasons or not.

I recall servers fighting the same servers for like 5+ weeks straight. If anything there was more complaints for stale matchups before Seasons was implanted.

The only real problems I saw with Seasons was the 1) ridiculous amount of stacking that took place (looking at HoD) due to free transfers. Free transfers is an awful idea, especially now that there’s Megaservers. There will always be that one server that get loaded, just so the PvErs could have their tokens.

The other problem is the Swiss style tournament with not enough servers in the same league. This style doesn’t work well without a large list of servers. As people said we just have servers placing 2-8 which can shift dramatically in the last 2 weeks of matchup. A server can be placed in the bottom tier and face the 2 bottom servers of the league and still become 3rd just by pushing in the last 2 weeks, for example.

Why not just have every server with the possibility of competing each other? (ie removes Gold/Silver/Bronze). That’d allow for a more fluid week by week than what we currently had these past 2 seasons.

Apparently with other champ bags farm nerf they think getting 5 champ bags in this dungeon is the new farm.

I myself would complete all my dungeon runs first and by then, I wouldn’t want to spend in that dungeon repeating the samething just for 5 champ bags.

Best overall dungeon class/build

I see eles dies all the time in pug runs. Without reliable DPS the yolo ele will drop, unless the ele is actually, like, great. I don’t expect the OP who’s asking this question in the first place to be great at that yolo ele role.

So I’ll say, Guardian or Warrior.

If there’s no Guardian in that pug team, you be the guardian that will reflect, kite, gives off stability, blinds, swiftness, aegis, and protection if things really go south. If there’s no Warrior in that pug team, you go be the Warrior that gives Empowered Allies and Banner of Strength and Discipline.

Daily Whining of the day:

2 mesmers, 1 necro, 2 thief CoF p2 run.
Both mesmer are GS, one of them was using scepter, necro was condi, and the thief has 1kap and downed at least 5 times in the dungeon.

I should’ve quit at the start. Who would’ve knew the mesmer with 10k ap would also be GS?

Any new builds with new crit strikes trait?

It’s good in PvE with Fiery Greatsword.

I also found it useful in Crown Pavillion Gauntlet matches.

The LFG feature is all about finding other players that share the same criteria you want to party with. It has nothing to do with only finding low level characters. Saying it makes the LFG useless is quite a careless statement to suggest.

In large raids, power > condition damage, in my opinion.

Aside from that though, wouldn’t Hide in Shadows be a better heal since you’re traited 6 in SA already? I’d also prefer Shadow’s Embrace for the extra condi-clear over the regen. The thing about the regen buff is you’ll likely have it in a large raid setting anyway, but one could always use more instantaneous condi removal.

True, but he healing roll skill has 15 seconds shorter cd, rolls back, removes cripple, chill and imo. The direct healing is way bigger in comperation. plus the stealth effect is just 3 secs max. Personal i ratter have another escape/shorter heal spell then 3 secs stealth and regen.

Actually, the stealth lasts 4 seconds consider you maxed SA. And you also have more toughness in stealth so I’d say Hide in Shadows in the end will be more beneficial than Withdraw. Also, if you’re poisoned, Withdraw heals much less.

War / Thief for main

I now spend about a equal amount of time with both (used to exclusively play the thief for months).

I do certain dungeons with a thief (CoF, CM specifically) and then a warrior for others. I use warriors in WvW for larger raids, while thief is for small roaming setups. Considering I don’t PvP whatsoever, I can’t comment much on that.

Personally I find thieves more “fun” to play. Compared to warrior they’re way squishier. Thus there is more of an emphasis on timing evades. Also, stealth in this game is the master trolling ability. Coupled with Shadowstep and it’s one mindtrip for the opponent if they’re not familiar with the class.

Dungeons, do they need to be fixed?

I do have to say some dungeon designs are very questionable.

Arah p1 like you mentioned has one of the easiest final boss fights ever, and it’s all inherently in the dungeon. Pretty much anyone can solo it without even directly doing any damage.

SE p1 is also odd. Why doesn’t Tazza drop any champ loot but the Commander does? Why not just make both required bosses to get the end chest rather than have Tazza not drop anything at all and the ability to lure her all the way out of her starting area?

I know this is just a typical whining thread but, with an organized group, this is laughably good farming.

15-20 tickets, 80 tokens, 10 champ bags, all under like 15 minutes. And repeateable too. Good stuff.

The Liadri Tips Thread

in Festival of the Four Winds

After at least 30+ deaths by her, finally beaten her on thief. Seen a bit too many negative threads here, so I’ll make a tip thread (if there isn’t one already.)

Some tips:

In general:
1. Destroy Rifts ASAP. That pull could eff you up.
2. Have some reliable heal regen trait/skill on you. As a thief I had 4 in Acrobatics for Pain Response regen and 6 in Shadow Arts for stealth regen. I also used Mango Pie for more heal.
3. Having a movement speed skill/rune set/perma-swiftness or dodge food is very helpful for both phases. Sigil of Energy is also useful here.
4. Use a ranged weapon in Phase 2 to focus on Liadri since you will often need to move regardless of Liadri is, as the priority is walking out of the AoE and not running into Visions.
5. Stay in the same arena. After many re-tries you will basically remember where the AoE will strike, where the Visions will spawn, and where the pool will be for phase 1.

Phase 1
1. Her AoEs are appear at the same spots for the same arena you choose to fight her at. That means after a while you will find the pattern to where her AoE will appear, which get rid of worrying about them.
2. Use pull moves on the Visions while standing on the pool. I use Scorpion Wire to instantly pull the Vision to the pool.

Phase 2
1. Arguably easier than phase 1, since the AoE patterns are strictly predictable. Stand around the middle of the arena and you will see the AoE basically rotate in a very predictable fashion (think of the AoE as 2 lines in the symbol X, they will alternate which means standing around the middle allows running out of the AoE more faster than standing on the edge). Standing in the middle is also good because the Visions spawn at mostly the periphery of the arena and you can notice any Rift spawns.
2. As long as you have a reliable regen and a ranged weapon, Liadri herself is mostly negligible in damage. The cripple is the only thing that might be problematic, so a condition clear for that might be useful.

As a thief, one of the most squishest classes, my build was 0/4/6/4/0. Used Hide in Shadows, Shadowstep, Scorpion Wire, movement signet, and Basilisk Venom. With Mango pie + valkyrie armor (zerk trinkets) + regen, Liadri’s attacks in phase 2 was pretty much negligible. And oh yeah, I used P/P. For once, P/P actually was useful (more DPS than shortbow). Lastly, don’t ever use Steal.

After the fight: YOU WILL FEEL AWESOME. Despite many deaths, I found Liadri pretty fun as a whole just because everything else in PvE is just so easy. Not even going to attempt that 8orbs achievement though, but kudos for Anet to re-introduce this fight for people who missed it last year.
