I do a tiny bit of WvW occasionally, but I don’t really see the point of battling over the same area all the time. But then, I can’t see the point of football!
I don’t enjoy PvP and WvW is PvP in camouflage, but I do rather enjoy hurtling across the map in zergs. I do like the idea of taking WvW mechanics and adding them to PvE.
My concerns would be: if this is where to be introduced, what about the new players trying to complete quests, gathering and exploration in the area. Also how would this affect quieter servers?
Generally, I enjoy the Living World content, especially as it’s fun to do the events with guild members.
It amazes me how much detail goes into the artwork for something that’s around for such a short period of time.
What I’d like to see added is the ability for guilds to work together to be able to earn a guild instance that rewards can be added to. For example, I’d love to get my hands on the airship from the Bazaar of the Four Winds, as long it’s acheivable for small guilds too.
I hugely admire Arenanet’s dedication to providing updates every two weeks, having come from another game that promised monthly updates and then couldn’t sustain that, I’m doubly impressed.
I, too, would like to see more LW updates related to the lore: more dragons; opening a route to Cantha and Elona; building guild instances and personal housing.
One thing I do dislike is the grind for event currency that’s around for a limited time. It should be fun, not a chore, to acheive a new weapon skin etc.

If you love to RP, you may want to consider guesting to either of the unofficial RP servers:
Tarnished Coast - NA
Piken Square - EU
Both are active servers and RP happens even in far-flung corners. I suggest you look out for guilds in the time zone most convenient to you.
More options may be available at GW2 RPers
Good luck in your search!
Admittedly the first thing I do in a game (rpg/mmo/fps even) after the standard tutorial is over is try to sit.
If Steam showed hours sat as well as hours played for Skyrim I would be embarrassed.
RPG elements extend the life of a game [no citation offered] in a way that is probably beyond the grasp of a marketer/accountant to quantify. Not a single dungeon or world boss needs to be designed on a regular basis to continue to satisfy this player base [dog ate my citation, sorry].
There are many ways to implement RPG elements, many ways to solve this “problem” and other designers from small to large games have done it. Just a question of priorities and how developers value various segments of the player base. Who knows, maybe RPG’ers just aren’t worth it in reality [maybe the devs have secret citations for that I haven’t seen].
I can give you a citation: Star Wars: Galaxies. Due to it’s volume of emotes and animations, player cities and housing, ability to create temporary structures in the open world and even sitting on chairs, I played the game right up to closure. It was simply the most supportive RP environment I’ve come across.
Re sitting in chairs, it took STO three years to get around to redesigning the coding and chairs so that players can sit on them. If you have played it you will know the huge range of shapes and sizes that players can create. I assume that’s why it took them so long.
RPers are immensely loyal to their characters and they will remain with a game for years. They will also pay for items that enhance RP, especially clothing and furniture for houses. They will scour the game world for lootable items to place in their homes and happily spend hours crafting furniture and decorating their homes.
I will add that many non-Rpers also enjoy the above aspects too.
I would love to be able to talk to the devs and pass on ways of making GW2 the most supportive RP environment yet!
Piken Square is the unofficial RP server and English is the language commonly used in /map and /say.
It is an active server and things going on all the time.
“there will be more . . .” possible, haven’t heard of that yet. However I don’t think I’ll be into this game by then (2014 releases) if this is their idea of art style. It was ok before, some hit and miss. This time, sadly, it was a big miss.
But those Halloween skins, those are really nice. I’m wondering what the heck happened. I hate when games do the “RP Skin ONLY” garbage in games. It’s pure nonsense to me.
As an RPer, these clothes are no use to me. My character would only consider wearing them for a fancy dress party, which might be a rare event. So I won’t be buying them.
However, if they were broken down into seperate items, I might buy the shoes that came with the witch’s outfit.
I want town clothes that the NPCs wear – normal, everday clothing.
Whilst I appreciate that there are some people who will love to wear these outfits for costume brawls, etc, I do wish we could have more town clothes for RP purposes.
I would happily spend a small fortune on them.
I enjoyed Ghosts of Ascalon a lot, but have yet to read the other two. I really must get around to them. It’s nice to read more of the lore.
Hi, we have an 18+ age limit and yes some of us are more mature than we’ like to be!
Please visit our website at www.sea-guild.org to find out a little more about us and what we are looking for in new members
As a female, I can understand other’s reluctance. But I am not the only female in the guild and the numbers of female gamers continues to grow. But men can be just as shy, too
We are happy for players to just listen, the vital thing is to be able to hear advice and instructions for dungeons. It’s usually not long before they are joining in the chat too.
Thank you so much for all the work gone into this! Also, for all the links and images.
Teamspeak is where we chat, mostly. It will fall quiet during RP, but at other times it can get quite lively.
When I first started gaming, guild chat was the main point of contact and socialising, but as chat programmes became more reliable, they have taken over from guild chat.
That doesn’t mean to say that guild chat it always dead, it isn’t. But I think another issue is that few people use just a guild chat tab, they are mostly in the main tab, which can get spammed away quickly.
I know that some of of our members are shy of using English when it’s their second or third language (I know I would be very shy of attempting another language). We have had members who say that TS has improved their English greatly, though.
I bet that romancing couple are still wondering what in Tyria was going on!
What will the Asura krewe be up to tonight? They are currently researching a means of using plants as a defence system.
2. RP - a very popular activity, yet under-represented on the forums
* more emotes + animations, NPCs use many that are not available to players
*reducing the range of emotes, so they are not spamming non-RPers two blocks away
*Player housing - freely decoratable, no limit on invited players, option to make homes public or private
*ability to sit on chairs and different sitting animations (Star Trek Online comes to mind with it’s various options)
*improved town clothing (many more options are in game, worn by NPCs)
*wardrobe system
*would love to see the ability to wear other armour types as appearance/wardrobe clothes. Then I won’t need to make light or medium armour alts for my heavy armour wearing characters!
So many more things I’d add that would greatly enhance immersion for RPers, but I will save those for an RP discussion forum. I think it should be kept in mind that many non-RPers would also appreciate the above.
Welcome to GW2!
I have two level 80 characters and working on six more alts! I log in and I still have so much to do, it takes me a few minutes to decide. Currently, I’m focusing on finally getting world completion done on my main. One day, I might get The Bifrost
I also RP, so this can keep me happily occupied for years when many others have moved on. Story arcs are actually planned to last at least a year or two.
I have played many MMOs over the years, but since the demise of SWG, this is the only one I still feel excited about and look forward to the new updates.
My advice to any new player is take your time, if you are struggling, roll another character and a different class, it could make the world of a difference. Try everything and explore every knook and cranny, it’s a beautiful world with many hidden surprises such as jumping puzzles and each point of interest, waypoint or heart quest you discover, gives you XP.
Remember, there is nothing you truly have to grind for, it’s all optional. Have fun and enjoy the game at your own pace.
You might find that Seaverse is a nice fit for you. However, we are more RP focused, although we do dungeons and living world events regularly. Have a look at the links in my signature and see if we appeal to you.
Given the beauty of GW2 and the wealth of detail in the artwork, I’d love to see what the dev team could come up with in relation to Cantha. In fact, any new region.
If it came with player housing and guild halls, I’d pay up front for it now!
On the other hand, my main is a light armour wearer and I’d love to have a coat or two to wear.
My female medium armour wearer would really like a skirt to wear.
I would love to see the whole armour system defenestrated and stats applied to whatever we want to wear. I know it won’t happen, though.
Both would be lovely. It would also be great if it was possible to synchronise instruments, so that players could perform as bands.
I have lead my guild since 2005. My intention was to create a guild where no one was excluded, regardless of level, gear and profession/class. Of course, that’s not worked in every game and there are always limitations in all games. But wherever possible, we try to tackle everything as a guild.
Our main focus is RP, though, and this means very absorbing storylines that take us across the game world. Out of character, we’ll run lower levels to the next locale, to get the WPs, so that they can join in too.
Because of the sheer amount of RL time our games masters put into creating story arcs, seeking out locations for RP and RL cash for gold for gear for their NPCs that nudge the arcs along, we expect 75% representation. So we try to foster a community spirit in guildchat, on TS and on our forums, hoping that it’s worth our members’ time to stay with us.
So why would anyone join us? Because they want a group of people who are friendly, provide them with fun things to do and helpful too. Of course, they always have the ultimate vote, with their feet. I’ve got members who have been in the guild since 2005, several others who have been with us for 3 or more years.
Some players just don’t want to be in a guild, if they get what they want from a game, that’s just fine.
On the other hand, I don’t want guild jumpers in mine. If I find a member is joining and not pulling their weight, or representing us enough, then they don’t last.
Managed to post in the wrong thread!

I’ve looked at a few “build videos” trying to get a grasp of what I may need for certain PVE content, only to be somewhat dismayed at all the Purple stuff I’m gonna need … sorry, not gonna happen!
GW2 is a game I enjoy playing, at the moment.
At least you are in a guild where purple stuff will never be a requirement
As for me, I play the content I enjoy and there is enough of that to keep me busy for a long time, regardless of Legendaries, Ascendeds or a garden hoe. The fortnightly Living World content stuff certainly provides that!
Adding my support as a guild leader, for some badly needed improvements.
We have an Asura krewe, as well as our main plot and we’ve been trying the Twilight Assault event (out of character )
Definitely want this, in fact, I need it!
No it it isn’t, of course and I would certainly support you men by dying my character’s clothing for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, too.
I wonder if it’s also something to do with items such as cultural armour? If a player wanted to reroll a level 80 Asura, with Tier 3 cultural armour, would there then be calls to have that swapped too?
I would like to see a Vault History tab that displays who deposited which items and who withdrew items.
The latter might go a long way to deter stealing items from the vault and enable CSRs to be more willing to assist.
For GW2 to be perfect for me, I would like to have:
The player housing from SWG (with the pack up system of LotRO should players be inactive)
Emotes and animations from MxO (loved being able to sit on bar stools)
Quick hairstyle change from Fallen Earth
Wardrobe system from LotRO
Synchronised instrument playing from SWG
Dances from just about any other game!Yes, I love fluff!
That’ll be like a dress up game.And a kid like atmosphere in gw2 T^T.
I am roleplayer and the above would greatly enhance my gaming experience. I’m sure there other RPers who would like to see housing, better emotes and animations, as well decoratable housing. XD
As for Quaggan backpacks? Yes I do have one, as well as a couple of the Charr ones.
Sadly, though it’s at least 2 decades since I was kid.
I found ele a tough class to play, especially as I prefer to use a staff. But I do enjoy trying to get buffs on group members by swapping attunements at the right moment. She is also totally a glass cannon and always the first to die. I am now trying to improve my dodge skills to improve that.
She is the only character I haven’t deleted. I keep deleting the others because the class doesn’t seem quite right. Currently levelling a Guardian, but I really dislike the female heavy armour and wish there was something a little more attractive to put her in.
I am tempted to delete another character now I’m thinking about it, to make a Warrior!
For GW2 to be perfect for me, I would like to have:
The player housing from SWG (with the pack up system of LotRO should players be inactive)
Emotes and animations from MxO (loved being able to sit on bar stools)
Quick hairstyle change from Fallen Earth

Yes, I love fluff!
I wish there were an option which I could make those accessories invisible.
Me too, love the new windswept female human hairstyle, but dislike the flower.
Guild halls
Dual classes
Message received and account activated!
All the above, as well as system message when a member logs in.
Yes I have and I see it as supporting the devs for a game I enjoy greatly.
Still hoping my ££s will provide guild halls!
Just let me forge 16 of those crap stones into one real rock.
Great idea!
Seaverse is now our primary guild. The name is a contraction of our old SW:G tag, [SEA] and universe. The name represents the world we create in our RP and also the online community spirit that makes being part of Seaverse so enjoyable.
Our previous guild is now our secondary guild, providing guild storage and new members will have access to this once they have been promoted from Recruit to Member.
I would happily pay for wardrobe slots, just as I did in LotRO.
Most RPers have several outfits for different climates etc, town clothes are utterly useless. Many spend a lot of time creating different looks out of many pieces of armour. It is irritating having to hunt through your inventory or the paperdoll page, to find the pieces you want.
To be able to assemble the outfits in a slot and swap at a click, would be wonderful. I miss this feature, that’s available in other games, as much as I miss player housing.
Arenanet, you would more than make up for the cost of dev time over and over again, via the gem store.
I agree! It can cause no end of hurt feelings!
Our Rp plots continue, one is based on a group of adventurers, the other on a krewe trying to develop a weapon.
We also do dungeons and fractals, as well as quest, out of character.
If you are over 18, willing to represent us for 75% of your time and love RP, or want to learn how, then visit:
I don’t want a guild hall in a WvW area. I want to be able to choose to have one in Lion’s Arch, or a cultural hub.
Apart from that, I’m all for them.
I wish that hairstyle was available for human females.
What needs to be considered is that using staff means that I am not as frequently in need of reviving, as I am with s/d and I know this is entirely due to my weak dodge skills.
For others like me, staff is a very good option re damage, when comparing ’up’ time as opposed to ’down’ time. The data may show that s/d is better for overall DPS, But staff actually means that I personally provide more DPS for my team than s/d does
I am very glad I checked ’bump a thread that’s more than 7 days old’, all the input has been very helpful.
Both very encouraging replies I’m now using the OP’s build, in full Berserker gear, yet to get any Celestial stuff and probably won’t, as life is too short and we stick to guild groups.
I’m still working out the rotations/finishers, but it’s better to be standing and hitting stuff than waiting for a revive and doing no damage at all!
(edited by Talenna.4052)
I’m considering a change in my build, I had swapped from Staff to S/D when I began doing more dungeons and more DPS was required.
However, my weakness is my poor dodge skills, as I instinctively use the mouse for movement. So a staff provides a better range for me and allows more time to dodge.
So I’m wondering how staff is shaping now, some weeks after the patch and if it’s more viable?
I always support calls for guild houses, but there should be an option to choose where the house is. I am not interested in WvW, nor are many of my members, and this should not be something imposed on guilds.
Surely Anet have metrics that tell them exactly what events and activities are popular?
I hate cold calls asking me to take part in a survey and to have this intruding on my game time would be just as bad.
I say No to in game surveys!
how would optional surveys be intrusive?
A pop up window without warning is intrusive. If there was an option not to participate in the settings, then that would be acceptable.
But what exactly would you expect Anet to achieve from this that they don’t get from metrics and the forums? Are they going to be more likely to sift through hundreds of responses than look at the data they can pull off their servers?
