Uh, wow. You are very, very lucky. As in, people are opening dozens and dozens of them without seeing any skins at all. I strongly suggest not getting involved in the incoming rage about drop rates from both sides. Prices are high right now on the TC, so you might want to sell. While it’s a cool looking skin, there’s the question of whether people are going to want it after the Halloween season. That I can’t answer.

I would definitely consider buying a quaggan mini-pet or something. A plush… hmm. Very, very tempting, though my dragon plush might be angry at being displaced.

<3 quaggans! My character even chose them to help of several species in a quest! But I do think we need to scoop them all up and put them in the waters of Lion’s Arch and Divinity’s Reach. They always seem to need rescuing.

The Price for Candy Corn

Taurethion.7302

I don’t have any use for the candy corn, so I’ve been selling it immediately. I have no faith there will be a market once the holiday ends. And “taking advantage of” is a very rude way of putting it, unless the people who sold me my armor took advantage of my desire to upgrade without praying for drops.

Clearly no one here played EQ2 and experienced Nathan Ironforge in Qeynos… I think 90% of the player population wanted to do that kid bodily harm. And there was always a line when the snowballs (which knocked down PCs and NPCs) appeared in the city. *may have stood in that line a few times >.> *

Hard to say. The supply will disappear, but the demand may also dry up once the holiday is past. It might be a bit like wearing a Santa hat in May, after all.

I have played MMOs since EQ1, but this is my first experience with boxes you buy for holidays, so yes, it is possible to be unaware how they work. Other games’ (that I played) holiday boxes were provided free, and had a frequent rate of stuff the community considered neat/desirable. As for waiting and seeing what others ran across… well, that means SOMEONE has to be the test subject, doesn’t it?

I generally do not buy keys, and opted not to for the holiday, and after the experiences of others, I will not in the future, and I have already alerted my guild not to bother. I don’t consider the way the chests were handled a good move, business wise, given how many people have been taught not to bother buying keys. I suspect the model has now been skewed towards direct-purchase items only; whether this is good or bad depends on your point of view, but it was almost certainly not intended.

While I have not spent any real money on gems for chests, I do find the people calling those who are unhappy after spending relatively large amounts fools and idiots amusing. Those fools and idiots are the most important customers in a FTP model, and alienating them will have a future impact on cash flow during future holidays. Hopefully, poor sales during future holidays of keys will not affect the amount of free future content.

Poll: What's your stance on the Halloween related BLC/Mad King Chests?

Taurethion.7302

As I voted, not buying keys for this or any future event. I’m not a gambler by nature, and the low chance of getting anything neat from a chest strikes me as making it impractical to spend real money on it (and I have 1 gp to my name, so buying gems that way is not currently practical). I am also warning my guild not to bother spending their money on it. If the RNG is altered to reflect a higher drop rate, I may reconsider, but it would have to be pretty significant.

While I am certainly by no means Mr. Moneybags, if something really, really appealed to me in the gem shop I might save up and buy it. I’m used to paying 15 bucks a month for a game, so to me, I suddenly have 15 dollars free now that I’m playing GW2. That said, it would have to be something that really fit my character RP-wise that I planned to use for months and months to spend real money on it. As an Rper, I spend enough time in town clothes to invest in them, but not if I’ll only use it for a week or so.

The diversity of the human npcs in their respective districts

Taurethion.7302

My dark skinned human is supposed to be a very recent mix of Ascalonan and Elonan, and he sticks out like a sore thumb walking through DR. I actually had no idea that Kryta was supposed to be connected to Elona rather than Ascalon until two weeks ago. A mix of appearances to go with the history given for humans would nice. But, humans seem to be a low priority of the developers as things stand, and designing more variety in humans would eat up resources they don’t wish to devote to that species.

I just hope the expansions don’t pull the trick I’ve seen in other games if we DO go to say, Elona… “Here is a civilization of your people, rended from you by circumstances and disaster! Reunion, rescue? Why no, they’re bad guys and you have to kill them!” I am still frothing at the mouth over Felwithe in EQ2, so I’m praying we don’t see it here.

Trahearne - initial impressions

in Personal Story

Posted by: Taurethion.7302

Taurethion.7302

Do I hate Trahearne? Not really. Has dumping him on me suddenly and making it The Trahearne Show made me less enthusiastic about my Personal Story? Yes. I admit, I’ve never played GW1, so I’m used to having my character be The Hero, as opposed to The Hero’s Sidekick.

The way he’s written just… annoys me. We’re running to a big important fight when I meet him, and he starts monologuing about himself. Could he have found a worst time to give you his life story? Then he’s my “friend” who is going to follow me whether I want him to or not. Having a scholar of Orr on your side makes sense, but the way a bond is assumed in no time is jarring.

As you get further on, everyone’s thrilled to see him, as he’ll be a great help! Except for the part where he follows me around while -I- handle everything. No mystic chanting to hold off the worst of the undead with his extensive knowledge or anything for flavor; he’s not even that big a help in the fights. Personality wise, he is, as others have said, rather flat. Stopping Zhaitan and cleansing Orr comes across less as something he’s doing, and more as the only thing he is, raising the question of why he bothers breathing after.

At some point, I just stopped caring about the Personal Story. I don’t feel I have any impact on it, and you could put literally any other player in my place and it would be well nigh identical. It’s a source of XP and a small amount of lore about what’s going on in the world. I won’t be incorporating any of it into my character’s story and RP. While some random Commander and Trahearne were off killing Zhaitan, Morenin Entalle was assisting the Seraph.

Do you feel bad for the Ghosts of Ascalon?

in Human

I just don’t see it that way. Yes, the founders of Ascalon drove the Charr out. Over 1000 years later, the lucky humans escaped, the unlucky one were not only killed, but condemned to unliving madness, because they were born in the wrong place and had the wrong ruler. If I’m supposed to feel sorry for every sylvari that gets a hangnail, I think I can spare some sympathy for people who have been suffering for 200 years because of where their ancestors went 40 generations ago.

As a side note, I find it a little odd that sylvari, a 25 year old race, has spread all over and claimed quite a bit of territory, and no one seems to mind. I’ll need to go post in another forum about that.

Your human char's name

My male human noble warrior is Morenin, and will be Morenin Entalle if the ability to alter names ever becomes available (I didn’t realize when I made him you chose last names at creation). IC his parents are from Ebonhawke, so Ascalon, with some Elonan refugee thrown in a couple generations back (hence his dark skin), so I figure his names started out recognizable and got altered as generations passed. OOC I’ve been carrying around some version of the name into four games now, usually with him as a half elf. The surname means absolutely nothing, but Morenin is mor + onnen from Tolkein’s Sindarin, meaning approximately born of darkness. It may mean something in Spanish, I’ve gotten a number of tells over the years asking if I’m a native Spanish speaker!

Humans in the Orders

imo, it has to do with the fading of humans from not just glory, but the world all together. I find that alot of npcs are Charr, Norn, and Asura. Humans are not around at all, Sylvari are a bit rare too, but alot of scout NPC are Sylvari, but it feels like humans which used to be the only race, are now a dying race. Which I think is why I like them. in GW1, I always wanted to play a charr, cause they felt rare and cool, But now, I feel like “Charr are sooo common!” Humans are a dying race, who have moved to pirating and other…“Shadey” dealings to keep themselves afloat, and that I think is why the order of whispers has alot of Humans and the others have less.

I’ve actually seen a number of sylvari in the Vigil, and one seems to be fairly important, since he’s always hovering around Almoraa and has a name. I have found a human Vigil member of enough note to have a name in Mount Maelstrom. If I’d realized the makeup of the Orders, I might have gone Whispers, though my warrior isn’t extremely subtle. Having my Ascaolonan descended human end up under a Charr was a shock! Teach me to read up on stuff before choosing.

I do feel bad for them. It may have been Charr land originally, but by the time of the final battle, the humans had all been born there and had known no other home (if I understand correctly, as I was not a GW1 player). The ordinary people of Ascalon were caught in a no-win situation, it seems to me. My human is supposed to be descended from survivors of Ascalon, so he avoids fighting the ghosts, and flatly will not if it benefits the Charr. They wanted the land back so badly, let them enjoy it (yes, he’s not nice on that score).

Human males

Taurethion.7302

Frankly, I’m glad they didn’t go the route of huge, overmuscled, ugly males for humans in this game. I understand some games are trying to appeal to men with such builds (superheroes, anyone?), but combined with the females that look like they’d break if the guys walked into them, it’s jarring. In Wow, I always wanted to take the human ladies aside and tell them to make peace with the Horde so they could trade up to the Blood Elf men. I’m happy with how my guy came out, but if they wanted to add more face features to make men ugly, nothing wrong with that. But don’t mistake ugly for “manly”.

I joined the Vigil on my first character, and I’m noticing something a little odd. It seems like there are very few humans in the Order (and those I’ve seen have been grunts, except for the Vigil member who recruited me- and ALL the orders sent humans to Queen Jenah). Given humans have a long martial tradition, it frankly seems weird. I know there are even fewer asura, but I didn’t find this surprising given their culture and size.

Are humans joining other Orders, possibly due to not wanting to serve under a Charr that used to fight them? Are they so embattled that most who chose to fight stay in human lands? Is this an awkward attempt to illustrate the fading of humanity from their height? I haven’t reached the end of the questline yet (the level 59 quest Retribution is up next), so if I simply haven’t reached something that answers it or shows more humans yet (preferably as something OTHER than cannon fodder), let me know!

I got that too, after awhile I finally noticed the tooltip instructs you to hold down the firing button to make the shot go farther. If you just hit it and release, you’re dropping it on the walls, so the game won’t let you. (Though I think the error message could have been a bit more clear.)
