I don’t know if it’s the solution most desired…but as to linking the item with the appearance you’re using you can do that from the hero screen wardrobe. I know at least I could with my Mind of Koda and Protector’s gear.
I suspect they will listen. Whether they do anything is another matter…but they’ll probably start talking within the week. Gotta remember they’re always busy…but post-patch release can be pandemonium for some of their teams.
I loooove the wardrobe…love the dyes…meh on the new traits since none really alter my playstyle but I give them a solid A for effort and hope they continue the theme of adding more. Haven’t been on any alts to test how the stat/trait deficit will impact them but I don’t expect much trouble since they apparently rebalanced everything to compensate. Definitely feel the love on double sigils for 2h weapons and no complaints about rune sets…other than wanting to drop money on testing out new ones lol. Can’t comment on the outfit/tonic situation since I didn’t ever buy any (none I liked enough to spend gold/gems/money on) so I have paid 0 attention. Never used town clothes either since my armor was always way better looking.
The only thing that I have any gripe with is the schedule on World bosses and the megaserver. They seem to have fixed the no-shows with one build or another so that problem is done but for my personal comfort I preferred the old system. On my server at least most of the boss events and especially the temples/big bosses were a sort of social event alongside the daily farming aspect. People knew each other…same commanders leading every day…that sort of deal. That is definitely not the case anymore. I suppose I can get used to the schedule in time…but yeah…Karka once a day if I am lucky and lots of waiting around when I used to just chain them as they spawned. Less action more thumb-twiddling doesn’t seem like the way to go…nor does breaking up server communities. I’m willing to wait and see what happens though…if it gets too bad this isn’t my only MMO…and deeefinitely not my only game.
Haven’t done but one world boss in two days. Schedule needs to be in-game or removed…preferably removed and reverted to the old system. The sites that gave timers when bosses were up and when they were due worked fine by me for the little ones like Fire Ele and Shadow Behemoth…and the big stuff like Temples and Karka was organized at a fixed time most players knew about (or were quickly taught) in a set order by the more well known commanders of the server. Doubt I will ever see Karka again because of work and other RL obligations…yeah…fun factor suffocating.
Honestly if this is the new way of things and nothing changes…will probably just drop the game and move on. Every other patch change I love…but this just sets on fire a huge part of the game I enjoyed.
Alrighty…thanks for the advice. Looks like I will be banking it for now.
I have a dilemma.
I’m a ham/bow warrior that mostly does PvE big encounters/champtrains and WvW zerging and keep defense.
Due to being gone a year and just a month ago coming back…I have no ascended gear yet but an amulet. Tonight however I got Lunaria, Circle of the Moon out of a WvW rank chest. Not exactly the best gear for me…but my current rings are exotic Beryl Ori rings…not happy with them anymore either.
So…which do I wear? Do I drop the Beryl in place of Lunaria until I can afford something better or is it not worth the power drop and better off just banked until I have another 80 it would be more viable for?
Can’t talk either…could in Heart of the Mists when I first logged in…broke sometime after going to Divinity’s Reach. Problem continues in Frostgorge Sound…can see other people talking but based on tests around other people nobody can see me talking (self included). That or…they just didn’t feel the need to respond but that would mean about 13/13 people I ran into were inconsiderate…and that seems unlikely since 3 were good acquaintances.
As an aside…great patch…love the new features. Other than this one little calamity it went in pretty smooth too…I still call it a win :-)
Dislike it for reasons already stated repeatedly in this thread. Don’t like wasted time/gold on WP’s in Orrian zones…don’t like gathering nodes being randomized everytime I visit a zone. Were it not for Temples/Arah openings I would consider just writing those zones off as wasted time after this. I was extremely apprehensive about this change to world bosses/events…but with the schedule I am hoping maybe it will still be possible to do world bosses the way I do now (tab out…check GW2stuff to see who’s up…go wreck who I need still). If that gets screwed up…alongside the gathering my moneymaking and thus the majority of what I do in a day on the game will be shot to oblivion.
I was already installing anyway but you sold me Cush…this will be my cure to the boredom. Now to figure out how badly my previous build has been changed and how best to adapt.
I’m all for less emphasis on dungeons and raids…that’s why I bought this game in the first place…it promised the hope of something other than running the same bosses in the same scenery every day to get magical points for magical items in a neverending arms race. At the time I left though most people seemed to be doing just that…unending dungeons with very select world bosses being killed and every other champion being flat out ignored. And specifically at the patch period I left in the pinnacle update to the game was just more dungeons (fractals) with a higher tier of loot…ascendant. Gear treadmill realized.
If however they’re doing more open world stuff and getting people out of dungeons and into the scenery (if I had anything to praise about this game other than the pvp…it was the world itself) I will embrace that wholeheartedly. I always wanted to kill every champion…every boss no matter how hard or obscure (that floating eye thing in Orr)…but there was zero interest 95% of the time. Your mention of champion bags intrigues me…hope that means people are more willing to fight wherever, whenever.
Achievements I can take or leave…I say that having a metric ton of em done in my main MMO. I suppose they mean something different here…so I can get behind it.
Either way I will find out myself…reinstalling.
Crazy lettuce eh? I assume you’re referring to those Sylvari (sp?) folk. Or if it really is crazy lettuce it would be worth it coming back just to see that one.
Toilet and no new zones sucks to hear…especially for you regular players. Crafting sounds nice though…I like how the GW2 system works. WvW I barely scratched the surface on because it was such a lagfest most people could barely play it. Did a good bit of…whatever you call battlegrounds in this game…know it has a special term but…yeah its gone.
Kinda surprised so few new dungeons…figured they would get their endgame fixed up. I expected a slow start…WoW had the same problem in the early days…but yikes. Shame too about the gem store skins…I imagine its great for some people that don’t have much time to play (I am actually in that boat) but I still preference getting the cool kid clothes by blood and sweat beating of in-game face. Ah well.
Hello GW2 players.
So yeah…as the title says…thinking about reinstalling. The WoW pre-expansion void of emptiness has set in and I am bored out of my skull in there. So…what’s going on around these parts? I see Lion’s Arch is up in smoke or something…anything else special going on since I left (which would be right about the time “fractals” and ascendant gear was put in…at the end of that event with the crab monsters…)? Did they ever fix those precursor items you need for legendaries to where you don’t have to flush endless items into that mystic toilet or whatever it was? Any new zones or activities for max level? A bit more than memorizing orichalcum spawn points and farming the same three dragons over and over might be nice. I don’t expect much dungeon running since I am coming back alone. Love the pvp here though.
So yeah…if I come back what do I need to know?
Hello!
We’ve recently reduced the culling of players in structured and tournament PvP to basically nothing. What this means is that players will no longer be able to attack from stealth without being reported immediately. Keep in mind that there will still be the ‘fade-in’ time, but players will be able to acquire a target much faster and have a much better window for reacting to attacks.-Karl
Woooooo!
I like it :-)
Layout wasn’t particularly hard to learn…had the map pretty well down I think by the end of my first game there. The buffs are definitely interesting…I feel like I have to pay just a little bit more attention in this one compared to the other battlegrounds, particularly Raid on the Capricorn. And of course always delightful when you snag the buff near the enemy side as well as your own because they’re twiddling thumbs.
Looks good…I say keep it.
Got it again after this latest patch for the Lost Shores content…did a few SPvP games and that old bug from back a few patches ago where you go to the starting waypoint after death but the loading screen never leaves came back on my 4th game (Forest of Niflhel if it makes any difference). Anyone else confirm its risen again?
Not much real use to it. It makes some rather undesirable runes but probably its most used function is by a few people that make undead slaying potions with it for Arah runs via Artificing.
In the interest of helping you out a bit I would ask…do you have map completion on all the high level zones? I finished Frostsound Gorge and one of my rewards was 40 Gossamer Scraps, so they’re a possible reward for that.
Additionally I got a fair bit from Heavy Moldy Bags and salvaging white cloth armor drops in Cursed Shore…and the mountains of Silk you’d get from this can be taken to the Mystic Forge and turned into smaller piles of Gossamer.
I would support this. If the current situation with the Charged Lodestones are any indication, a new or updated source might be desirable.
Why does everyone complain about Onyx Lodestones but not Icy Runestones?
in Crafting
Posted by: Tayledras.1604
My thought would be that Icy Runestones are 1g a piece…always available except for a brief time during the Claw of Jormag battle. Lodestones are increasing rapidly in price, in most cases beyond that 1g. And while being farmable, they aren’t particularly commonplace to say the least.
It’s fairly easy to farm out 1g a day. You have a grind in place, simple but time consuming, necessary for something like a very rare weapon. But every day you can move up and along…you can keyword progress.
Lodestones on the other hand are a bit trickier. Do you farm them? I personally, and I am sure you could throw a rock any direction on these forums and hit someone else in the same situation, have spent more than one day dedicated to just farming out a specific lodestone and come up empty handed. And a common theme with Lodestone bearing mobs is they don’t drop a lot in terms of vendor worthy items. Not much sense of progression. So then do you buy them? Now you need money for the runestones and the lodestones, along with perhaps money for precursors and whatever else is in your expenses. And the gold cost isn’t steady…the benchmark is in constant change. In this situation it becomes easy to grow demoralized and either give up or ask that something change to make it more viable. People want to feel like they’re progressing toward something, and right now with the way Lodestones are, combined with all the other aspects of acquiring a legendary, a lot of people are not finding that progression.
The silver lining that keeps me from getting too discouraged is that GW2 is still really in its infancy. More than one MMO has had those little eye-twitch causers like certain high-demand items being glacially slow to acquire…eventually though it all gets better. Perhaps not to the satisfaction of every last person, but that’s just not realistic. These things are just constant iteration though.
In fact I have noticed a lot in common in terms of “problems” with Vanilla GW2 and the early days of another MMO that shall not be named. MMO that shall not be named though is still going strong after a good number of years. The far and away majority of those vanilla issues are now fixed…and players have all new issues to be concerned about :-P
I figure GW2 will follow in the same path. They’ve made a very impressive game to my eyes…I think it will have some life for a while. So for now I would propose if you don’t have the time or energy to mess with things as they are now…do what you’re doing now and voice your concerns here, then just see what happens. Contrary to popular belief they do listen to their player base.
I can tell you that when Dwayna’s Shrine is held in Malchor’s Leap there will be Air Elementals in the areas south of her…including a few veteran level ones near a chest. There are also some that show up around the outer ring of Lyssa’s area in the same zone. They can drop the lodestones at a pretty low rate…along with pretty regular drops of Opal gemstones. I have also seen some show up in the Cursed Shore in fewer numbers, it’s rumored they’re linked to Dwayna too but I can’t confirm as most of my time in CS is spent elsewhere (Grenth…).
At the current point I am afraid you don’t have much choice in how you get them. It’s either farming these mobs until your eyes bleed, running CoE until your fingers bleed, or buying them from the Trading Post. Sadly the latter is becoming more and more difficult to do since more items are being discovered that use them. It was nice when they were around 50s a pop but now you’ve got them at around 2g and climbing. To make Mjolnir at current auction prices you’re talking around 700g in cores without adding in any of the other materials. And that’s a non-legendary.
Personally I am putting it on the backburner. I figure one of two things has to happen, either they become easier to acquire (more mobs or better drop rates) or they become so ludicrously over-priced sales plateau from people losing interest, and then maybe start to sink back down to normal levels. Much like with the precursors something eventually has to give. You can charge 500g all day long, doesn’t mean anyone will buy it. I’m all for grinding for my shiny and certainly done my share in my day, but this one could use a tweak.
And if not, oh well. It’s all just appearances with that gear. You can dress my warrior in banana leaves and give him a dead armadillo on a stick for a hammer, he’s still gonna break anything in sight :-D
I decided I wanted one of every race (though I dread the day I go Asura…) and started playing with the Sylvari in character creation. Quickly figured out I could make a really good looking one and just rolled with it. Knowing nothing really about them…I named him Syrris Embervine.
Now that I know the naming protocol though…still not changing it. I like it :-)
Syrris= I have no idea…it popped into my head and sounded good.
Embervine= He’s an elementalist…fire centric. Less a last name and more a nickname or title, like my main characters “Lionheart” last name. My main is played as an orphan with no known last name so this one was “given”…same could be said I suppose for my Sylvari.
Knew it was something. Think I got a Molten somewhere in Malchor’s Leap or Cursed Shore…will have to track that down.
And this is just me but I would do the precursor first. Reason being its one of the two most difficult (IMO) components to acquire. While I was out farming/exploring/doing events I would be saving every dime I could past a certain point to buy that thing. Then once you’ve got that it serves as a swift kick in the very much lower back region to get the rest of it done. Plus by the time you save that much money you probably will have a healthy stockpile of T6 crafting items and karma, depending on how you play it.
Not to mention you can strut around with it on your back.
“That’s right ladies and gentlemen. Soon…”.
To quote someone else from a neighboring thread…apparently this might be the recipe for the Lightning Hammer:
“Gift of Lightning+ 70-100 Mystic Coin+ Eldritch Scroll+ 250 Charged Lodestone”
That’s a lot of bloody charged lodestones if that’s the case…350 between the Gift and the full stack requirement. And the price as of this posting is a gold each and climbing. Oh well…on the bright side I have already gathered a few and know of some mobs that can drop more. Would need 100 anyway for the legendary hammer if I remember correctly.
I am a warrior so to me there was no question…Vigil all the way. Their hammer I kinda dig, just wish I could dye the thing because it doesn’t match my targeted armor color scheme. Lionsguard hammer I came within a hair of going for since my guys last name is “Lionheart” but I backed out. I wish the head were…rounder? More aggressive looking? Its a solid and pretty close to home…just couldn’t sell on it. Also liked the Ebonhawke hammer…that was another contender.
Found an Elementalist to give me a Lightning Hammer…gotta say this might be the winner here. Now to just figure out how bad I am going to be beaten down by the material list. If its to insane I may still go Juggernaut since things like the World Completion and Badges of Honor I will probably do anyway just because.
That Lightning Hammer is a possibility…need to get an elementalist to see how that looks. Got a feeling I am going to be going for Juggernaut as a “best fit”. Just reluctant to do all that work for a weapon I am not thoroughly sold on.
Hello all :-)
So I play a Warrior, Hammer/Rifle ever since I finished opening up all the slot skills for each other weapon. Knew coming in those would be my weapons of choice.
But I am now getting to that point where I can stop worrying about character upgrading and start thinking about how I want to look aesthetically. In terms of armor I expect to be in full T3 Human Cultural at some point, minus the helm, but as the topic title suggests I am bumping into trouble with a weapon. I want something a bit more ornate than a big spiked ball on a stick.
Now the reason I post this here is because reading the threads you guys working with the forge and whatnot have a good handle on the types of weapons that may be out there. So, I beseech your aid. Show me what’s out there in the wonderful world of giant clubs of doom.
To help narrow it down, I have seen (I think) all of the karma/gold/dungeon token hammers. Some of them I like but they just don’t scream “This is my beat-stick”. Juggernaut is a fading dream what with my lack of desire to gamble with precursors and mystic clovers. Never have liked gambling. I would even consider doing it though if I really liked the weapon…and the hammer itself…love it. But the splashing of quicksilver and the coating on my character are what turn me off to it. Just not my personal taste…not to mention the nerd in me is screaming “OMG That’s mercury covering me, if it got on me like that I’d be dead! How does this make sense!? /facedesk”. Yes…that…despite that I teleport around and fight walking dead and dragons made of big purple crystals.
Moving on…so the Foefire one (think thats what it is, spectral…has a chain…think guardians summon it) doesn’t do much for me either. Destroyer hammer…meh. Corrupted hammer…bleh. Ugly stick? Just that. Briny Deep? Can’t see me being all heroic smashing faces with barnacles.
Yeah I know…picky. But as we all know there is nothing more important than the pixels your pixels swing at other pixels in your journey across the pixels.
So again…help me out here. Help me find the weapon I will use to gain +5 Awesome.
Thanks for all the responses. Clearly there is still some debate but I think between what is here and my own ideas and theory work I have enough to make a reasonably informed decision on future gearing.
PvE build…Staff as primary weapon. Do I want more condition damage or more critical damage? Carrion vs. Valkyrie.
Why devs simply don’t answer this simple question?
Gw2 is for fun, not for grind, comon tell us how to have this staff…
Two reasons.
1.) They want to keep you hunting and therefore playing the game.
2.) For some people, the pursuit is as fun as the end product.
It hasn’t been that long since the game came out, not everything has been run to death yet. Give it some time, it will pop up sooner or later and the answer will be out there.
Anyone opened the large chest in the jumping puzzle in Orr? The one that needs 12 “keys” to unlock?
Really wants this staff for my necro
Presuming you mean the Scavenger’s Chasm, I would highly think not. Did it tonight opening all 3 chests and all it gave me was the same generic blues/greens/medallions as any other chest out in the world.
I’ll go try that out…thanks Crake!
So I am on the wiki site looking at the weapons that can be made in the mystic forge and I am seeing a lot of “50 molten lodestone” here and “50 destroyer lodestone” there. Has anyone come up with a way to make weapons with Charged Lodestones other than the legendaries?
I would love to see something like 50 Charged + X + X + X = Exotic lightning effect weapon.
They shall call me Thor…
My main source of getting them has been salvaging cloth gear/scraps…from bags of loot dropped by undead in Malchor’s Leap and beyond, and I got a stack of 40 scraps for completing the Frostgorge Sound map (though this is randomized).
Not sure why that part is underlining…its not appearing in edit mode. Odd…
Hello all. So I am 80…got my exotic hammer for great bashing of face…and head to toe Draconic heavy armor. But what I am having trouble with is locating good Rings/Amulets/Accessories. Are the exotic jeweler-made earrings/rings/amulet the best there is? Are there other options out there? I thought based on the AH that crafted was top bar for this section of items but then someone discovered the Triforge Amulet components and eventual whole product. I’ve tried looking around on my own and am not coming up with much…but I find it hard to think my options are so few.
And while we’re at it (and possibly to the same ends) whats the best of these slots I can get for Karma? Preferrably with Crit damage % on it. I know you can pick up exotic armor in Orr like the Armageddon set…any trinket slot stuff I just haven’t bumped into? I am sitting on 110k karma and would love something to do with it other than cooking ingredients and the inevitable legendary. Mostly I just wanna stop spending gold on upgrades and switch over to spending it on transmog and gems :-)
I don’t doubt there are some bugged skill points floating around still, however I have to point out in some cases like what you describe the NPC can be beneath you in an underground or underwater cave (Sparkfly Fen has one such case that comes to mind). You might consider exploring around or asking in map chat if the location is not as straightforward as it would seem.
It helps in these situations to point out the server you are playing on at the time of the incident. I just recently earned 100% map completion on Sparkfly Fen without complication on Dragonbrand, so it may be a server-side error.
I have run into this before in other games. Make sure all background programs are closed at the time, you might be having one trying to impose over the game window. Additionally, make sure you’re in full screen mode and not playing in a windowed version of the game.
May not fix the problem, but we can hope.
looks like this is just one of the games where they sell you a product and then dont care about you anymore … why should they if you already paid them
Because they can still profit from the cash shop and the coming expansion(s). I think its a bit unfair to say they don’t care about their players just because of an achievement not properly tracking. The same problem has happened in montly subscription titles. I understand the frustration though, I do, I am an achievement hunter and I too am stuck.
That said, it is a known issue and one they are working to address. Give them time, lot going on right now and much bigger fish to fry if you catch my meaning.
Definitely sounds like a bug. Can you help them locate it by indicating what class you’re using it for? And when you purchased/used the book.
Hello all. <SPOILER ALERT>
Last night did the personal story quest “Light in the Darkness” with my partner (did hers first) and it played through perfectly fine. We then proceeded to do it on my character and after the event where Trehearne (sp?) leads the spectral forces of the 3 orders into combat against the risen, we fought, prevailed, and the friendly NPCs split into two groups and just stood idle instead of despawning. The quest progression would not proceed past the point of battling the risen. We searched around a bit trying to find some catalyst and sure enough, one of the risen had spawned above ground in a tree and was invulnerable to ranged attack. I was able to climb the roots and get in melee range to start swinging (I am a warrior) and I had my partner back far out of the combat area (she is an elementalist). Once she was away the risen started attacking me and I was able to quickly DPS it down and the quest updated to proceed as normal.
So if you’re on this quest and stuck here, look around high and low for any still-living risen. You’ll likely have to get right in their face and try from a few different angles to get them to where they’re not invulnerable.

Happy to help, good hunting!
Have you advanced the personal story much?
If you side with the Vigil, you get access to gear at lvl 80 that has Power, Toughness, and Vitality on it.
http://www.gw2db.com/items/25249-vigil-breastplate
I don’t know if the other factions have the same itemization or not, but you might want to research it. Additionally you might look around for other armor sets, perhaps dungeons or culturals, that have the same itemization. Vigil is the only one I knew off the top of my head.
The racials are generally speaking weaker than the class elites. Racials are more directed at giving “flavor” to your gameplay.
That said of the various racials Charrzooka is one of the stronger ones. It can do a significant bit of DPS in a short frame, particularly against groups of mobs. And it has the benefit of being ranged so you may not need to be in harms way while dishing it out.
Rampage as you said is the more pvp/utilitarian skill. It can be useful in PvE against stronger veteran/champions, but not absolutely required.
Fact is actually both the 30 point elites can be skipped for just pve questing purposes. The only ones I would say you MUST have are the Signet (solo) and the Banner (groups). The signet is a no brainer with the buffs lasting half the cooldown…and the Banner is at its most useful when deployed right after a fair number of unfortunate melee have been stomped flat by some Champion/Boss AoE attack.
I would say if you absolutely want one or the other go Charrzooka…but don’t feel obligated to get either. The points may be better spent on Bloodstone Shards or the like.
Try as I might to research this on my own I am having a rough go of it, so I leave it to the forum community.
I have my signet, have my banner, so the obvious is taken care of. Going to begin saving soon for those Bloodstone Shards but first I want to grab one of the 30 point skills. Question is what one? Rampage or Hounds of Balthazaar?
Rampage I know a sufficient bit about. I know of the 20 second stability, I know of the unmentioned boosts to health and the utility slots getting locked. And from what I understand it doubles your Power. Honestly it doesn’t impress me enough to trade out the Signet but I would get it for the situational utility.
What I don’t know much about is the Hounds. I know they cause burning. Do they benefit from player condition damage boosts? Do they benefit from any player stat coefficient? Whats the average damage? Does it level scale? Do they continue to fight during the players Downed/Defeated status? I need numbers and info before I go dumping 30 skill points. Frankly I like the visual and role-play associations of the skill but that isn’t sufficient at the end of the day to justify the purchase on its own.
Anyone have any info? Have the skills and can comment? And to clarify, we’re talking pve situational use here. Pvp I am already locked into what I will be going with.
Very viable. I knew coming in from day 1 I was going Hammer/Rifle build. Got one early on and have been using them since. You won’t do the damage a Greatsword can do but you have more control…which can be far more important.
I am currently level 45, my 6-0 slots are Signet of Healing, Signet of Rage, Signet of Precision, Signet of Might, and Signet of the Dolyak. I also have unlocked things like banners and shouts I can switch to for more group oriented events. I have enough of the Arms traits unlocked to gain +40 Precision for unused Signets which is putting my crit chance about 65-70% in my current gear. Also going Defensive to unlock the Hammer trait at 20 points in.
Having said all that…Veteran mobs are no different to me than standard mobs and I have on 3 occasions now taken down non-event Champions with just a 3 man group.
For normal mobs…swing will do. If you have multiple targets reposition so they’re all in a 180 degree line in front of you…your swings will cleave and hit all targets. Knockdown (5 slot) whenever up. Saves you some damage and you can get synergistic traits to increase damage against disabled mobs. Cripple is obvious too when to use…particularly good on centaur archers that try to run back to shoot at range.
Veterans…about the same deal. Knockdown as necessary…keep Weakness (2) on cooldown. Don’t forget your dodge…watch those big attacks. A trick is that your 2 slot has a “cast bar” before making contact. As you get more comfortable with the hammer and your own pacing…you can time it to hit the button just before you reach the target, and hit just as you enter combat so Weakness is on from the start.
Champions are tough…you won’t solo them with a hammer though I doubt you’ll solo them with any build. Same rules as Veterans but keep Cripple on too. If you’re like me and often find yourself the focus of their ire…duck and move. They may have stability stacks but those can be worn down by using your Cripple and Knockdown which I advise doing as possible. Just try to keep them weakened, crippled or on the ground while your teammates work the body. Or if you’re not the focus, help your allies the same way by making it hard for the Champ to get them.
I can’t say you’ll be immortal, but with some skill and practice a hammer in PvE can devastate. Good luck and hope you enjoy it!
Looking pretty widespread at the moment…first log-in issue I have had since release. Looks to be on their end though so take comfort in that.
