Happened to me too…same letter…set me back to Against the Corruption even though I killed Zhaitan a millennium or so ago. I’m just ignoring it for now until information about it comes out or it gets patched.
She has no memory of ever being there (we didn’t play GW1) but looking at the wiki for that place it seems spot on. Thank you for solving the mystery!
I like it…I would wear it…but it’s not enough to get me to raid. I left that game style in the dust when I ditched my last MMO…I never want to go back.
Like someone above said…the big thing in the picture with the asura is a really big Stonehead.

Compare faces.
Awesome communication…quick fix to a really bad situation…yep. Great work to everyone at Arenanet.

Pretty sure what he was talking about was the player theories – probably specifically those by Quintus Antonius who had mursaat involved with literally every single theory he ever made – to the point where he claimed mursaat were actually ascended humans, that Lord Ordran was a mursaat, and that mursaat were, effectively, behind every plot in the game.
The Mursaat coming back is looking more and more like a possibility with the White Mantle resurgence and now this teaser released today.
The teaser shows a stone construct very obviously being powered by a bloodstone shard (and ley-line energy…which seems to be part of the bloodstone…begin speculating).
Could very well be a modified Jade Construct.
First thought was “Barradin Statue rehash” then I saw the base of the Keep Construct (and the name) and thought “Yeah, modified Jade Construct”.
Didn’t see the bloodstone/ley line magic though. Where’d you see that?
Edit: Okay, saw purple-red crystals embedded in it and the golden line of magic as it explodes.
Not sure if those crystals were Bloodstone Shards though – they’re much duller in color, and more reminiscent of the purple crystals of the jade constructs in GW1. I only saw the golden “ley line” line as it exploded, so maybe that was just magic being released as it died?
Sorry I probably could have been clearer…to see the ley line magic you have to do some serious pausing and frame analyzing at the 12 second mark. If you blow it up and go frame by frame it looks and behaves just like the energy around the ley-line confluences before sucking back into the bloodstone (or as you suggest the crystals of a jade construct).

Having just seen the teaser I am now a 30 year old man fangirling like crazy because of the story implications on display here.
SO HYPED FOR LIVING STORY SEASON 3!
I really really really want…Elona.
But I really really want Cantha too.
So much world to explore…so much lore…I neeeeeed iiiiiittttt!
Glad something is changing on this one…I have done every achievement thus far for the LS3 build-up and even added bandit killing to my crews daily activities but after doing this once last night we were ready to write this one off as skippable. We were all of the same mind…felt way to much like a WoW event than a GW one.
Books. More books. ALL THE BOOKS!
…….
ALL OF THEM!
One of the things that kept me here from WoW when the game launched was that the world actually had something in it to find. I loved jumping here…running there…finding all these little hidden areas and secrets (in a word…mini-dungeons) as opposed to Warcrafts zones that in 95% of cases felt more like leveling-quest containment areas designed solely around housing objectives and looking nice as it needed long enough for you to move on to the next. Even if the rewards are a crappy chest with a green and some empyrial shards it was just fun to discover something or overcome its obstacles. So yeah…put me down for more of that.
I love them. They’re a nice little appetizer for the story enthusiasts to get worked up on in speculation before the main course that will be season 3. And their being rolled out so unceremoniously I think adds to their charm…even if it’s not setting the world on fire it still comes as a surprise…a little patch note to decipher and you’re off figuring things out.
…and maybe it will get people to READ THE PATCH NOTES MORE OFTEN! Grumble
As someone who just made Astralaria, some tips:
Don’t straight buy amalgamated gemstones, make your own.
Ask friends/guildmates to throw any unwanted medallions your way. Most people still think of them as vendor trash and just chuck em out…so they won’t mind tossing them your way.
Use your/a friends Jeweler profession. Incandescent dustx5 (you can get this for like 10.5g a stack) and 2x T5 gems make a T6. If you’ve been playing a while and just storing them without looking at them you might be surprised how many you have.
Make use of the ecto Mystic Forge recipe mentioned previously. Sometimes you get a 25 gemstone return.
Sell everything you don’t need for your weapon. Do as many high income events as you can. If you have a tag…tag up and lead a karka train between big events…still surprisingly decent money.
If I can do it you can do it…just takes a lot of time and dedication.
Thanks for the information Milkshake…cheers mate.
Pretty please with a cherry on top bring back the Lunatic Guard outfit during this sale. I didn’t care for it until I realized you could hide the “helm” and now my Charr Guardian needs it to live. To live!

Just got this myself for the first time tonight…been playing since game launch. No clue what it’s about but…whatever it doesn’t seem to break anything to let it do its thing.
Asuran Cultural T3…buy in Rata Sum for a total sum of 119g. Not sure the image is the full set but at least has parts…most identifiable the goggles. Head to the bank and use the wardrobe to see if anything else matches better.
(edited by Tayledras.1604)
I can confirm two of these…in my case the Updrafts not working happened on the second round of them, resulting in my death and having to restart the encounter. Then on my second go the floor under the rift was gone so there was no way to advance the fight.
Consequently between this and the map completion reward bug I have just sworn off all HoT content unless I already have done it without incident until they get more patches out…I dread having to do that whole last personal story thing again. If it broke a second time I would probably never finish it.
There is a 64 bit beta version of the client for Windows you can download in your account management section that seems to prevent this crash. I had your problem and after my second time crashing (right as he died and got no loot/thrown off map) I installed it. I have run him 6 times since, no problems.
Would love to see either this made a regular weekend event or have this particular event extended to a week or more, to accommodate the people who can’t endlessly grind for the blooms due to work commitments.
Precisely this. I appreciate the effort to give us new content…I really do. And I know its hard work putting together something like this. It just comes as very demoralizing when I realize that due to work, family and sleep I can’t even get one of the top rewards because there aren’t enough hours in a day for me to grind the required currency. I understand too the desire to have these sort of “you had to be there” events to reward active players that come and go so fast…maybe just not so fast? Give people more of a chance to see the content you’re creating and gain something from it. I know for some people its never going to be enough but I think we can do better than this.
I’ll second this. Four days at the abysmal rate you acquire blooms is just not enough to get the big rewards or multiple middle tier rewards. People have been doing the math on this and yeah…between work, family and sleep there are just not enough hours in the day for me to get to the end even if I spent every waking minute not doing the above in-game doing these events.
They’ve done stuff like this before and it just reminds me I have probably outgrown MMOs. My Steam account works on my schedule…and lately has been far more entertaining.
Yeah like some of you this worries me. I was a WoW raid leader for 7 years and finally left and started Guild Wars 2 as my exclusive MMO when I had the epiphany that I was logging off raid nights and disappearing here to escape my WoW guild. When you need a game to take a break from a game…things have gone awry…
I’m just reminding myself GW2 is different. Our community is the best of any MMO I have set foot in…we don’t scrutinize people (outside maybe fractals) over their gear. We don’t have a huge elitist crowd (some yes…but nowhere close to something like WoW now). I just hope it stays that way…I have seen to much of what raiding does to people. I love this game…I don’t want to see it become a cesspool.
I currently alt around on a D/D thief (relax…he just does open world stuff these days…no pvp anymore) and I frackin’ love him from an RP perspective. So my current thief won’t change.
However that said…Daredevil looks like diamonds wrapped in bacon to me so for the first time in any MMO I might make a second version of a class just to have him Daredevil spec. My current remains the charming rogue and my new guy becomes a monk/ninja sort.
I tried in vain to find some way of e-mailing or contacting directly an Arenanet legal team or some other applicable representative, but found nothing that fits the criteria of my issue. So I leave this here and what happens with it happens with it…I am just trying to bring awareness to a possible issue.
On the Google Play app store is a game called FallenSouls. And in this game are art assets and concepts lifted at varying degrees of subtlety from other larger games, one of which is Guild Wars 2. During mission play, when selecting auto-battle for a mission you can clearly see a darkened up version of the below image complete with the Guild Wars 2 logo. I tried to find out more about the company involved in making the game, which seems to be called Teebik Inc. but very little info exists on them…mostly that its a small (50ish employee) company founded in 2011. No ties to Arenanet that I could find that might make this permissible. Now it may very well be that since it isn’t just an in-game picture from Guild Wars 2 but also a wallpaper it is fair for anyone to use, in which case no problem. But I know for a fact it contains the GW2 Logo which is trademarked. I am no lawyer though…just a guy that doesn’t like when anyone steals someones art…big or small.
Hopefully it’s nothing…but given the other “borrowed” material I will assume not. In that case I hope the right eyes see this.
I’ve had this thought as well. Maybe six months to a year (more likely year) after launch…but definitely not at release. To many people like me with permanent surplus stores of gold-conversion gems. They need to make their bank on this…best way is though digital distribution sales and box releases for real money.
Interested to see if the move set will be able to pull me away from my beloved Scepter/Dagger. As long as it can conform to condi builds it can take my staff slot any day. Seriously hate staff…
Also need to find an appropriate skin. Thinking Naegling would look good with my Arah set.
Still just speculative at this point but I would guess from this image that 1.) Guardians are getting access to a longbow weapon. Makes sense given the spirit one…and they could honestly use a better ranged weapon anyway. And 2.) the wings are either as someone suggested already a new back skin, or I am hoping possibly an indicator to a new elite/specialization skill in the vein of the WoW Paladin ability Avenging Wrath (to the unfamiliar, it buffed damage and healing significantly and was visually displayed with golden wings appearing on the players back) which also works because the current elites bore me.
I really liked the Mistforged maces because they went so well with my Protectors armor, so I got them and pretty much use them exclusively for open world PvE. World bosses or champ training. For WvW I still run GS/LB or Hambow, and PvP I have this Axe/Sword build I get a giggle with. And I don’t bother with fractal/dungeons anymore but knowing the scene if you show there with any maces you’re more liable than not to get a brick chucked at your head.
They’re a fun toy to play with…but lack a place to really shine. Other weapons just do it better.
My reason has nothing to do with pets. I don’t care about LB rapid fire…its pvp…I expect death inevitably. And I run a GS/LB or Hammer/LB build as a warrior anyway in WvW and a Axe/Sword/LB build in sPvP…I love having a ranged option so it would be hypocritical to call BS on a class historically designed for it.
I hate rangers on sight because the sweeping majority of them arbitrarily knockback enemies for no. Good. Reason.
Eotm? Lets knockback the champion out of everyones stacked fields. WvW? Lets knockback the player I am about to wreck away from me so he has a chance to bolt. Open world PvE? Lets knockback the enemy so I have to chase it to keep meleeing, or just as it dies so I have to chase down loot. Spvp? See the above. And I don’t dungeon/fractal so maybe that’s their great call to reason but I doubt it.
And its almost always the case that they have plenty of room to fire or could back up a step…so the excuse of them pushing back to increase range and therefore personal damage is bogus.
I tried for a long time not to have it against a class just because some members are idiots. But the fight was lost…its become so prevalent that I immediately regard any ranger I see as an annoyance at best. The only ones immune are the ones I personally know not to be that thick.
And yes I have seen hammer guards/wars occasionally do it too…they get just as much hate from me…but they’re not nearly as prevalent as rangers are.
Working on the completion of the new “For the Children!” collection achievement…for my final ornament I needed one from an asura chest, so I chose the one at the end of the Spekk’s Lab jumping puzzle in Caledon Forest. Completed it…got the Mysterious Grubby Package from the asuran chest at the end…but only got the gray item “Wrecked Wintersday Ornament” from inside.
EDIT: After running the place again on an alt…got the Mysterious Grubby Package and it had the proper item this time. Maybe observational bias on the first four made me think it was a 100% drop for the respective item?
(edited by Tayledras.1604)
I want those giant beetles from Dry Top as a pet. No justification for why…I just really really want one.
So as most people know, you can’t TP ascended gear, salvage it, throw it into the Mystic Forge (except to infuse it), and it vendors for peanuts. For most circumstances you wouldn’t need to do any of those things since Ascended Gear is as good as it gets and many struggle to get anything of that quality. Why would you ever want to trash it?
When you have something that fits no spec you would ever play, on any character.
Enter my situation. I have four (with a fifth I am on the fence about) ascended rings with “Bad” stat combinations I would never rightly use (all gained from WvW rank up)…and nothing I can do with them except let them linger on a bank alt and hope something mentioned in this post happens. Or vendor them for four silver.
Call me nuts but I think an Ascended item being worth less to me than the green light chest armor I got with it is a waste.
So…what can we do to make the bitter prospect of useless Ascended gear (and not just rings…undesirable stat weapons/armor from boxes as well) more desirable? Here are my suggestions in personal order of desirability.
1.) Make them salvagable.
Each ascended item is a guaranteed one ecto and dark matter, with a chance at more equivalent to an exotic salvage. If we can’t use the ascended item, we can at least put it to use as materials for one we CAN do something with. Far more payoff than the vendor solution we have now.
2.) Make them sell for more.
Since a yellow item can be worth 30-70s on the trading post…I feel a suitable consolation prize for an Ascended item to vendor at might be 80s for Rings…1g for armor and 1.5g for weapons. I know it doesn’t sound like much as a player but keep in mind the people making the game probably want to promote using the gear to try new playstyles over immediately pawning it. Plus economic balance has to be considered. And its still better than four silver so…take what you can get.
3.) Mystic Forge
This might be less a solution to the armor/weapons problem and more to the rings that are a more common drop, so I will speak regarding them. Lets say I have four “junker” rings that all have +healing as their main stat and my interest in healing builds is equivalent to my interest in being punched in the face by a professional boxer. So I take my four +healing rings and throw them at the MF to be combined and draw a random new ring. Maybe I get a Ring of Red Death…or a Barbed Signet. Maybe I get another Purge Signet. At least its a chance at something better…thats about the spirit of the mystic forge and combining gear…throwing the dice at getting something better than what was tossed in. Or if you really wanna outdo yourselves…four rings make a new “jewelry box” item like an Ascended Armor Box that lets you pick your new ring. That would probably be the most dev work of anything here though…and I know time is money (and future content).
And yeah, I realize this is probably a problem limited to a very few players. I won’t be expecting a solution anytime this year or well into the next…or ever, priorities and all. Just asking it be considered.
Also thank you for reading and making an awesome game. <3
Try to shrug off the sentiments from above…GW2 has about the most supportive and tolerant player community of any MMO I have walked into but there’s always “those guys”.
Unfortunately, they do have something of a point. Obsidian Sanctum is not a JP you should attempt solo. It was one of the last jumping puzzles I had left in the game…and was resigned to leave it as the one I never finished simply because I knew what it would be. I had heard the infamy of “the dark room” and the amount of spots players could camp and pick people off. Were it not for a friend more committed to 100% completion of all jumping puzzles than I, I probably still wouldn’t have it done.
Having been though it though…here is my advice. First, youtube it. Then youtube it again. Know the path you’re going to take inside and out before you go in there. The more time you waste looking up where to go next the greater the chance someone is going to catch up to you.
Second…bring a friend. Bring two friends. Bring everyone you know. One man won’t pose much threat to someone camping…looking for an easy mark. A pack might make him reconsider his use of time.
Third…always be looking ahead. Most of the path is pretty visible…there are some tight spots like ascending the platforms on the inside of the “tower” or whatever that was supposed to be…bring stability and pop it near the top. Necro is one of my least played alts and even I recognized that would be a good spot to fear bomb someone to their death. If you see someone camping and you don’t think you can take them out…WP back and come back another day. It’s not going anywhere…save yourself the frustration.
Having said that though…don’t rush to instigate a fight if you do meet someone. Keep in mind…there are people like you out there that don’t want to fight and just want to get through that place. We agreed going in…we only fight in self defense. We met two enemies on the way through…a warrior and an elementalist. The warrior gave us space…he got to finish with us. Live and let live. The elementalist attacked us after we had already walked by her. She didn’t finish.
To your original question of “should it be changed?”…as much as that place irritated me and held me off for so long…probably not. Yes people can be obnoxious and ruin other peoples day but I think that’s part of the point of OS. The challenge isn’t really in the jumping…the JP in Malchor’s Leap held me up longer (though admittedly I studied it far less going in) than OS did…the challenge is dealing with a JP in a pvp situation. And after two years in all likelihood they would have changed it by now if they ever planned to…so all I can say is do what you can and good luck.
Definitely my favorite thus far…that ending fight put a smile on me.
That dragon you are referring to is a separate entity…seen in the Sylvari characters first mission before going into the world.
I’m a fairly predictable sort. In every game…here…WoW…Diablo 3…basically all single-player fantasy RPGs I play…several things don’t change. I am always Tayledras…and I am always whatever the game has that passes for a Warrior.
I’m the sort that likes to melee what I kill. Spellcasting and holy power doesn’t beat the tried and true method of steel and strength. And believe me when I say there is a difference between lobbing green goop-ball curses at an enemy versus sending them skyward with a hammer the size of a small child. I love that visceral feeling you get. And the difference generally between why I play Warrior as opposed to say thief/rogue types is that not only can you deliver the hits…you can take them, laugh at them for trying, and proceed to pound them into next week. GW2 has the two more on even footing…but I still prefer my plate armor. Don’t get me wrong…I have a mesmer max level and an elementalist, thief and necro…but Warrior will always be my main.
None. I play a warrior and ever since the ability to re-trait yourself whenever the mood strikes was implemented I rotate between a bunch of weapons…only ever keeping longbow as my second. To that end I got the hero version mace, longbow, and greatsword. All of them go perfectly with my human cultural T3 and I am the black sheep apparently that prefers the non-mistforged look on most (not all) of the weapons. The rest of the tickets I just banked.
And if I ever change my mind…in coming tournaments I can just buy a Gift of Heroes and upgrade one…though I don’t see that happening with the GS and definitely not with the mace. Longbow might sell me in time.
(To anyone wondering I use the Genesis skin for my hammer and Beacon of Light for my axes.)
You have my thanks as well for allowing me to look this awesome. I am complete.
Buying a Mistforged weapon does unlock the Hero version skin as well.

Let me try to clarify this as I understand the intention:
Tickets and Gift of Heroes will be recurring items in coming WvW Tournaments.
So lets say hypothetically I have 375 tickets. I can buy one Mistforged weapon…or three Hero weapons…and have 75 tickets left over.
Those tickets left over I can save for the next tournament and put toward purchasing rewards for that tournament…or if I bought the three Hero weapons…put them toward buying a Gift of Heroes and making one of my Hero weapons this season into a Mistforged.
Take note that this would require keeping the Hero weapon until such time as I decide to upgrade it during a coming season…as the process is a mystic forge recipe and requires the Hero weapon along with the Gift of Heroes and Crystalline Dust/Elonian Wine.
EDIT: I got un-lazy and found a source.

Hi all,
We understand the frustration over having to wait to receive your rewards, and we appreciate your patience. The issue was very complex, and we needed to take the appropriate amount of time to sort it all out, and ensure a proper solution. We anticipate being able to provide another update with an ETA for the fix, soon.
Thank you.
Thank you Jessica. Might not be obvious in this thread but the work and communication are appreciated. Good luck.
Nice thought…but I give the likelihood of such a thing happening the same likelihood of me walking outside and being showered by delicious Cadbury creme eggs from the heavens. They’re a game company…like every other one they will fix the bug when/if they can…clap their hands clean of the mess and move on to making the next thing/fixing the next disaster trying to forget this ever happened despite constant reminders from a wrathful community of scorned players. They’re human…humans don’t like to dwell on their mistakes…least of all very public ones.
calcite weapons have the same color scheme, so if you need a complete set of weapons to match a white/golden char, there you go
I’ve thought of this at least a dozen times but it’s always that point of justifying the time and resources into making ascended gear purely for cosmetic reasons when there are less “bang my head against the wall” possibilities. Not to mention by tradition I am a Hambow warrior using Genesis/Royal Ascalonian Longbow. Yeah I like this mace so much I am willing to change my playstyle for it (not a huge departure…dual mace and hammer have a fair bit of crossover for Warrior). With the change to allow re-traiting on the fly I have taken to carrying most every weapon variety in my bags just to mix things up. But I digress…if these new weapons hadn’t come out I probably would have gone Calcite eventually.
Definitely the mace…probably the greatsword. I’ll be skipping the ghost spit variant because I would rather have more weapons than one with a sometimes odd-laying particle effect. It looks good on stuff like the shield for example but on the mace it looks like the weapon has a wispy-white mohawk. Definitely excited though…the weapons go better than anything else I have seen with my human cultural T3 heavy armor. The filigree of the weapons matches that of the tabard.
This is assuming of course I get my bugged reward chest at some point…
Dragonbrand player since game launch…no chest. Completed the meta within days of the tourney starting up and well more than the 10 needed by the end. Achievement in my WvW tab says we came in 5th…we came in 6th. One thing I can mention that nobody else seems to have is that I had this 5th place achievement at least a day before the tourney ended though it never at any point appeared in my recent achievements list.
I want the tournament to end already so I can get my weapon. I’m a warrior so I don’t even use 1h maces much but it so perfectly compliments my armor (human cultural T3) I am picking it up at the very least for general PvE. (Yes…I will change play-styles for a better looking beatstick.) I will probably take the basic Hero’s weapons so I can get more and the mist effect is hardly noticeable on a few of them anyway…and certainly not the most important part to me.
If I can I think I also want the shield. Shield or axe. Both also on the not-used-much list but with traits now changeable at whim…I am experimenting with new weapons and combinations for the first time since lvl 1-15. To my surprise after making some exotic 1h maces tonight…actually having fun dual-wielding them. Close enough to my old Hammer in abilities with just the right amount of newness.
(Hammer is the one weapon there I really don’t care for…its the shape. Staying with my Genesis, lovely ol’ gal.)
Maybe it was less about labeling it hardcore and more about they needed to stick it somewhere on the list and that was as good a spot as any.
I don’t know about other servers but mine typically killed her only once per day at about 9ish at night EST and if you weren’t there or didn’t know we did it right then…you missed out. If that was a common occurrence around various servers it could also have more to do with setting a more visible set-in-stone time for people to all get in on it.
