I’m sure Metalripper.5406 would still be on the battlefield if his team were losing like TC and FA, so cut him some slack…

Why? He doesn’t deserve slack coming in here with that attitude. We’ve been fighting our kitten off all week on TC, doing the best we can in a bad situation. Then we have people like this posting. You expect us to be friendly?

They deleted his post =(. But yeah this, it’s sooo funny how kids flock to one server to crush the other two, then have the audacity to come on here and say that we’re the ones who are pathetic, and say that they pity us. It’s laughable.

To the people from Blackgate who have kept it respectful, I thank you. I’m sticking by my first post in this thread however, I sincerely hope that BG gets bumped up to top tier, and that we never ever EVER have to fight them again. It’s sad that you guys can destroy us this badly, then some of your members (not all, just the leechers) come on here and put salt in the wound. TC and FA have done a good job against impossible odds this week, and for that they should be applauded. However, I’ve gone a week without WvW, and I’m dying for a good matchup. It would be fun to see TC vs FA vs SoS, that would be an amazingly even match, and a hell of a lot of fun XD.

But anyways, to Blackgate, I wish you guys luck in the future. I said it in the last thread when we went up against you, and I’ll say it again now. I hope that we never have to fight you guys ever again.

To my fellow FA members, the new rotation is tomorrow, so it’s time to put our game faces on. We’re going to take a pretty large ranking hit after this week, so hopefully we’ll be put in a more even match for this next week. I’d love to see another SoS vs FA style match up like last week, it was down to the wire all week.

SoS drank an Elixir X this week as well.

We might see SoS vs. CD vs. TC next week. TCers really have it tough =(

The performance and organization of BG seems to get better and better as we moved later into the evening. I notice that their attacks became more focused and better supported by siege as the night went on, which coincided with large number of guild members of some familiar guilds showing up. Not sure whether this is because those guys had to wait in queue while Bob Goe with his bear was gnawing away at the tower wall, or because the guild didn’t bother with WvW until then.

It is not feasible for sanctuary to negate all sources of damage – itwould be too ridiculously powerful to have a potential 9-second invulnerability for multiple players while maintaining their ability to take action.

I think it’s fine where it is right now.

From what I understand, 3 main things that affect aggro at least for general mobs (some have special aggro mechanics like going after revivers):
1. Proximity
2. Squishiness (there is a tendency for enemy to go after characters with low armor/hp)
3. Damage output

So if you build a melee glass cannon guardian, you should be able to keep aggro a lot. Bunker Guardian sometimes have a harder time.

I mostly play WvW now, so that’s my context.

1. WoR: love it – and if it’s from the other team – hate it. Nevermind people gleefully shooting themselves in the face, but just having it there can make a huge difference. People will either back up, stop shooting, or try to run around the wall. All of them are good outcomes for your team. Being a light combo field also keeps your shooters squeaky clean of conditions. If they made a plushy WoR, I’d buy it and sleep with it.

2. Stand your ground – CC is a big deal in WvW. Group stability is wonderful to make sure your line stays in tact. Retaliation is quite nice too.

3. Sanctuary – this has specialized usage, but can be incredibly powerful if deployed correctly. Pop out of a tower/keep under siege, make a bubble and run into it, go crazy for 6-9 seconds. If you trait it, it’s also a ground-targeted knockdown, handy for knocking unsuspecting people off cliffs from a distance. You can use it as area denial for keep someone from escaping. Cast it next to enemy siege weapons and triple the effectiveness of your suicide siege hunting missions. Of course, if you are tired of doing all that, you can also use it to save a downed teammate.

*. Hallowed ground
Hallowed ground is even more specialized than Sanctuary, but arguably more powerful. The fire field part is nice, but even traited, the cooldown is still way to long to be used reliably as a combo field. However, it gives stability for 10 seconds. TO EVERYONE STANDING IN IT. Other than the warrior, no other class has a real sustainable source of stability, and here you are Mr. glueshoes, giving stability to everybody inside for 10 seconds. No more knockback from trebs and catapults, no more annoying pulls, no more necros scattering your team around. The problem? When would you ever want a bunch of people on your team standing on a point for 10 seconds? WvW is all about movement. So it’s only really useful for those instances where you want to make sure to be where you want to be (like smacking some siege weapons, for example, or staying nice and close to the gates). When you find a situation where you need it, however, it’s got superkitten powers.

As you can gather from the threads here, this is going to be an ongoing problem until the transfer policy is modified, since there is really very little that differentiates one server from another (although as a TC-er, I have to plug our server for perhaps being a little different). I think for your situation and wishes, you should try a server that has recently received a lot of guild transfers such as blackgate and Sea of Sorrows. It’s more likely that guilds stability will be a bit better on theses servers in the short term, since they just got there and there is some tailwind in their recent performances.

If the transfer policy doesn’t change, however, you should be prepared to transfer every couple of month or so (if not sooner). That’s just how things are right now.

After about 9-10 pm Pacific time, enemy borderland maps on TC start to empty out, with some exceptions (like the epic BG BL orb war a couple of nights ago – from what I heard). Folks will stream toward the home borderlands and EB. How many people we have after that, and how long they stay usually depends on whether we have commanders around. After midnight pacific time, if we are doing poorly, then it usually snowballs and everyone heads to bed. Otherwise we can go for a few more hours.

Why do Guardians say they stink when they are a top tier class

in Guardian

Posted by: Telegraph.7509

Telegraph.7509

I think one thing that makes guardians special is their ability of ground control. They have 4 skills that completely deny an area to the opponent unless they burn their stability. Since stability is not a terribly easy boon to get for most class and is also often tied to their stun breaker, you can make a lot of people do ab crunches. Then you also have the WALL.

In most situation, particularly in PvE, these abilities are not useful. However, in WvW, they can be deadly if used correctly. Hide behind a wall of reflection, and cast a line of warding into the middle of the opponent line, and watch their organization scatter unless facing a well-disciplined and organized group. You can make a little safety cubical for yourself when you rush out of a tower to harass the attackers. A good guardian, utilizing their bubbles and wall correctly, can sometimes single-handedly push a open-field standoff in your team’s favor. We don’t get great ranged damage options (nobody stands in your smite ring that long), but we got wonderfully shiny toys to play with!

Some people complain guardians are not rewarding to play in WvW, but I don’t think I truly appreciated what a guardian can do until I started playing WvW heavily.

Let's Talk Utilities

in Mesmer

Mantras are not “horrible”. They are quite okay, just very annoying and awkward to use. They are actually technically better than normal utilities that do similar things. The healing mantra is on really low cooldown, Mantra of resolve is a very strong condition remover while mantra of distraction is two fast instant interrupts. Mantra of concentration isn’t great, but the ability to break stun twice is helpful, particularly in PvP type environments where people have multiple stuns. Mantra of Pain – the troubled poster child of mantras, is actually good spike damage. You can cast it in the middle of anything, and it’s at 1200 range. I hated on it for a long time, convinced that its only purpose of existence was to abuse the mantra traits, but it’s quite helpful once I actually tried to use it.

I find that Mesmers have a lot of great utilities that are very powerful. Every class has some skills that are extremely situation-specific, but perhaps because of the really good utilities, a lot of the other utilities just don’t measure up and don’t get used quite as often.

Telegraph.7509

The greatest utility of WoR is not that the uninitiated shoot themselves in the face (although it is funny to see when somebody finally realizes why they are taking damage, and stop doing anything for like 3 seconds at that Eureka moment), but in WvW, the fact that they stop shooting is important since it’s a great fire suppressant that allows your team to push the other team back.

Also, since it is a light combo field, your own rangers shooting through the wall constantly gets their conditions removed – which is a bigger deal than one would first think.

I really want to love healing but

in Guardian

Posted by: Telegraph.7509

Telegraph.7509

For most regular mobs, yes – damage will end the battle quicker. If you use the full dps/blind build for guardian, you can often get through a battle against multiple normal mobs just by facetanking. As long as you actively switch your weaponsets and time your blinds, almost no movement is required.

Healing power comes in against tougher opponents that you can’t kill fast like champions, veterans, or some locations in Orr where spawn rates are very fast. With enough toughness and healing power, coupled with the healing skills at the guardian’s disposal, you can get close to the “damage equilibrium” where you can heal at the same rate at you take damage. The effect of healing power may not seem like very much, but all those 100 heal per second really adds up – particularly due to the lower health pool of the guardian.

I play WvW most of the time now, and this kind of thing is very helpful since guardians have a lot of ground control type abilities that are very strong. Being able to stay alive longer in the heat of the battle tends to be much more helpful to your team than doing some more damage.

Guardian in WvW

Like the previous posters have mentioned – there are certainly ways for guardians to get their share of loot bags. It’s probably a bit more difficult that some other classes due to the inadequacy at range which has been discussed into the ground, but certainly doable.

However, guardians are certainly not useless, or even weak offensively in WvW. Offense in WvW is not only measured by how many people you kill, but how much you help your team’s objectives. Guardians have access to a lot of team support/ground control skills that can help turn the tide of a battle. A well-placed Wall of Reflection can dissolve a standoff, a ward/sanctuary can suddenly divide a mob blob into two smaller ones (those who know what they are doing and those who take a tumble). You won’t have the loot bags to show for it, but you will know if you have played an important part of the battle.

The way I look at it: play PvE if you want loot, but play WvW for the teamwork and awesome fun!

I think it’s in their best interest to keep the player base happy, not only to continue the stream from the gemstore, but also to ensure people buy the expansions as well as making personal recommendations to their friends.

3) When everyone else is releasing half made games, you don’t look so bad when you do it.

Yeah, but that’s the reason so many MMO has failed recently.
Anyway i think aslong as industries keep making MMO ala WoW (please wow haters dont take this literally, i know WoW hasnt invented anything blablabla) nothin will change and we will see more and more failures.
Take EvE online, which has nothin to do whatsover with any other MMO around, surely cater to a much different and smaller audience (i personally find it boring as hell but that’s just me) but is still alive and expanding.

I think MMOs tends to be more successful if they can engage more of the “social” aspect of it into the game. So that you want to stay and play a game not necessarily because the game itself, but the people in it. This has been a big thing in the East Asian MMORPGs. The gameplay of those things is always pretty awful, but they attract a huge crowd because of the complete lack of fees and the interactions involved in it.

In another sense, one way to monetize MMOs is to turn them into a platform where huge numbers of players make small transactions on a variety of things, similar to the apps market that smartphones run.

You guys are all missing the point.

He’s saying somebody lists an omnomberry for 75 silver and then a bunch of people just assume that’s the going price so they list theirs, then that guy who only listed 1 omnomberry buys a bunch of them for 75 silver to craft with.

I don’t know how viable that is because the lower listed one he posts will get snapped up quickly so it’s not too likely that a huge pile will develop.

However it would be nice if the “match lowest seller” would only count piles of a certain size. It’s pretty dirty to be able to manipulate the market with only a single listing even if it doesn’t work every time.

I think one possible way is to list a median seller’s price in addition to the lowest seller’s price on the selling interface. You will still have problems with the low quantity goods, but should solve some issues with the higher flow ones.

In the end, there is only so much they can do. The sellers has to do a bit more work if he wants to get the price that he deserves.

The median is a bad price to go with because some idiots list stuff for ridiculous prices and others list stuff for prices that aren’t insane but wouldn’t sell unless the item happens to inflate over a few days.

All they really have to do is for high quantity items list the lowest large stack instead of that random one that is undercutting the large stacks.

Price outliers would affect the mean price (like selling copper ore for 200g), but not the median price if the selling pool is reasonably large. If 100 people are selling copper ore for 15c, and 3 guys are selling them for 200g, the median would still be 15 c.

Mantras are “great”…

They do great thing on lower CD compared to other similar skills, but in return you have to much more active in gameplay. Mesmer is already a busy class, but there are still times in combat (especially with certain builds) that you are just shooting off autoattacks – those are the moments to recharge mantras. Of course, they make the busy gameplay of mesmer even busier and require much more timing and planning. There are numerous times when I am not on top of my game, and realized my MoR is not charged when I really needed a heal… that’s a lot where the mantra hate comes from.

$5 for 1g is too much arena.net :(

Telegraph.7509

The harder the gold is to get for the non botting player, when he is spending too much time for too little reward, (try farming for your 120g item let me know how long that takes you). The gold sellers will be in higher demand then ever.

The trading post economy compared to the in game merchant economies, don’t add up right now.

The trading post is too low on everything in comparison to be able to make buying things easy, for example you have to farm, about 120 blue items just to get 1 siege golem, if you were selling on trading post, you have to get around 60 green items to sell on the trading post for one siege golem.

The trading post shouldn’t be a kitteny merchant that takes a cut when you list and sell things, it should be something that you wait to make more money from than merchantmen for your drops.

Yes, something that costs 120g is difficult to get, and I see complaints about this all the time, but you know what? That item is designed to be difficult to get. If for whatever reason gold becomes twice as easy to obtain, the prices of those item will approach 240g. For items sold on the TP (like the legendary precursors), a lot is driven by supply and demand. When Dusk of Rage first appeared on TP, I think the asking price was something like 46 g. Now the price has tripled – because more people want it, and more people have gold. If gold was twice as easy to obtain, the inflation will drive the price up, and you’ll have to pay a lot more than 120g for it.

For vendor items like cultural sets, I am sure Anet has a good item of how easy/difficult it is to earn gold, and have pegged the prices of those items accordingly. If somebody discovered an easy way of making gold twice as fast for everyone (that’s not an exploit), then you’ll likely see a patch that raises not only the prices of the cultural sets, but also things like repair costs, waypoint costs, blueprint/siege golem costs, etc. Why? Because some of those things are difficult to get by design. They are not going to make it easier on you to get them.

The trade post is definitely something you use to make more money than selling to a vendor – I have made more than the vendor + 15% every time I sold something on it. It is not something you sell everything on, because 1) then vendors would be useless, and 2) somebody else has to want it at that price.

The hidden 10% fee is annoying, but only the hidden part. Without the 15% tax, you’ll see all sorts of shenanigans and market manipulations on the TP. That 15% is there is discourage it, and it needs to stay. They do need to do a much better job at informing the player base about it though.

For one, as long as gold sellers exist, they will always offer significantly more gold per $ than the official route – that’s the only way they can get people to purchase from them. Even if the price on gems were lowered, the gold sellers will still undercut it – by a lot.

Anet will spend a lot of effort into killing gold sellers because it’s a parasite on one of their main stream of incoming, so they will devote the utmost attention to it (to the chagrin to people waiting for bugfixes). With the anti-farming system and impending crackdown on botting, the only easy way for gold sellers to make money is through account hacking and stealing credit card info.

Shield #4 Skill Opinion

One thing about shield though is the trait that improves it can be easily picked up in a lot of popular builds involving Altruistic Healing. If you are going for a AH build, the other two major traits in line are not too terrific – perfect chances to pick up the shield trait. With it, you get a 24-second cooldown AOE damage that puts up a 5-6 second protection and a 32 second cooldown bubble. Outside of “hold the line”, it’s probably the most reliable way of group protection the Guardian has. Ain’t bad.

Things I'm not happy about with GW2

Those things are designed to be difficult to get; and thus they are difficult to get. Look at the legendary weapons – it generally requires dedication from multiple people, or even guilds to put together. Big issue with Grandmaster traits.

in Guardian

Posted by: Telegraph.7509

Telegraph.7509

It’s really hard to have a nice discussion when OP adopts such a dismissive attitude.

First of all, grandmaster traits not being the strongest traits out there is not a “problem” specific to guardians, all classes have some really whimpy grandmaster traits. I don’t even think that grandmaster traits are designed to be the strongest traits all the time, but anyways…

Altruistic healing is nice because almost everything a guardian does puts a buff on someone: you made a symbol? Heal. Shouts? Heal. Activated a virtue? Heal. Self-buff? Heal. Not to mention there are skills and traits that amplify this even more. It’s not so good while soloing, but if you have people around you, each symbol/shout/virtue will heal you at somewhere around 300-500 HP. Given how many such kind of actions you take during a fight, all that healing really adds up, and no, you don’t need to run a symbol build to take advantage of this. You heal basically just by doing things.

Yes, the GS attacking heal trait is terrible.

Aegis healing trait barely makes a difference in a fight. You might get 3-4 of them up, but chances are, one of them is useless since you are probably at full health when you lose the first aegis. So you get around 1800 healing from that trait per fight. You can get that from using one meditation skill with Monk’s focus, and 1/3 of that from AH just for doing something. Meditations are not useless: how many times and you activate VoR per encounter? What if you don’t want to put 20 points into the virtue line? Remove a condition while doing damage on low cooldown is not a bad thing, neither is a stun-breaker teleport that deals reasonable damage.

Yay! “aegis can negate 4-12k damage!”. You best healing skill only heals about 8000! Healing skills are so useless! I can pull up 4 aegis in one fight and negate 16-48k damage! Who cares about healing!

does +healing affect regeneration?

in Guardian

Posted by: Telegraph.7509

Telegraph.7509

Yes it does. If I remember correctly, 8 points in healing power gets you one extra HP regen per second.

The virtue of resolve, on the other hand, is not a true regen. You need around 16-17 points of healing power to get on extra HP regen from the virtue.

The skill does indeed give you both 20% cooldown reduction and +90 toughness. The description is wrong.

I shatter two clones in the morning
I shatter two clones at night
I shatter two clones in the afternoon. It makes me feel alright
I shatter two clones in the time of peace, and in the time of war
I shatter two clones before I shatter two clones
and then I shattered two more.

Shattering clones til the time they die!

Best: Blurred Frenzy. Period. 2 second immunity to everything, on an 8 second cooldown. There is no substitute.
Probably put Time Warp and Illusion of Life up there for group play (dungeons specifically), and Feedback/Arcane Thievery for solo.

Worst: The Mantras. Any time that you need to recast them, you’re pretty much at a loss, even with the “but you can cast them three times”

God forbid you were dumb enough to go Sword+Sword if this is you… I feel for you cause you must have not seen the warrior class in character creation.

God forbid someone find a melee option that’s entertaining and actually works. Considering your lack of understanding on even the simple block mechanics (how much damage they do, or even how they work) is distasteful. That you’d even compare it to a Warrior simply because of melee weapons (surprise any profession can ) is quite laughable.

Mantras are funny – especially the Mantra of Pain. I am convinced that this skill was designed not to actually do anything on its own, but rather to abuse the mantra-triggering traits that Mesmers have.

1h Sword and scepter a little underwhelming :(

I feel like Zealot’s Defense could be replaced with a Symbol of Fury and Smite could be changed to a Symbol of Might. That would give a symbol on all of the Guardian’s weapon options, buff scepters a fair bit, and keep 1h sword as a pretty offensive option with the fury. The auto attack on the scepter needs to be sped up some as well, perhaps at the cost of some damage.

The auto-attack on the scepter is already the fastest! How fast do you want it to be? Also it has the worst damage of all weapon auto-attacks except for the staff (which is AOE). Are you sure you are not thinking of the mace or the hammer?

I really think virtues don’t do any good especially if u activate them , or is it just me don’t now how to use it on right time?

If you want to actively use virtues, you have to spec traits for them:
Justice is generally the most commonly activated virtue, and with proper traits, you can have it blind nearby enemies, give you 3 stacks of might, 3 seconds of retaliation, and burn an extra second – and you can do this every 20 some seconds depending on how many points you put into the virtues line (or upon killing an enemy). Very spammable. You allies also gets a damage boost for one attack; not too shabby.

Resolve doesn’t heal much when activating, but it heals allies, and the passive regen is not really all that impressive anyway. Traited properly, it gives an additional 5 seconds of regeneration, 3 seconds of retaliation. Most importantly, if you take the Absolute resolution trait, it will remove 3 conditions from both you AND your allies with a 40 something second cooldown. I would imagine if this was a skill, it would be widely used.

I find courage hard to use. Usually when I am looking for the courage key, my head is about 0.1 second from kissing the floor.

It’s hard to make a PVP condition build with burning as your only real form of condition damage. It can be used with other build types since it doesn’t take too much devotion in traits or skills.

Torch is wonderful in PvE.
