I want to respect everyone’s playstyle and not sound like a kittenbag, but I feel the same way as you about highly defensive builds in dungeons. As a zerker I tend to die when people don’t do their fair share of damage making the fight take longer. Usually not being able to do anything cause most of my skill/dodges are on cooldown while they facetank all the damage.

To be honest, I dislike zerker ppl that die because the group don’t kill fast enough and then complain about it.

You are zerker and you die when the group don’t have enough dps, its ok. Used to happen to me a lot (especially on my ele), but I never complained about it because it’s my fault. If you see that your party lack the dps, you shouldn’t continue the same strategy or you’ll die. You should adapt, stay alive and finish the boss and then complain. But that’s just my opinion. I hate when tanky ppl used to pick me up on the ground because I didn’t have enough dodge to survive a fight that lasted twice longer than it should have. So I learned how to solo stuff, more effective way to show those tanky PHIW than laying dead on the ground and kitten about it.

I don’t judge you dying btw (I die a lot myself). I just don’t like zerker that can’t stay alive with certain group and complain about it after

Statistics plz and warriors are pigeonholed to GS because all the other weps are lame and dont work with each other. We need the GS. Sword is another option but that lacks dmg.

What do you mean statistics?

Don’t work with each other? Longbow work great with both Warhorn and Hammer for firefield+blast. Longbow + Sword work great for firefield+leap.

Sword lack dmg if you are bad with it. If you use soldier gear with sword yes it will be terrible, but if you using celestial gear + might stack you have a good amount of bleeding and direct dmg to keep pressure. And if you land your final trust with sigil of intelligence when the guy have less than 50%, its will be one of the most devastating attack in PvP.

Sword, Axe and Hammer all do better job than GS in PvP. But of course, its all about what ppl are comfortable with, so ya some ppl do better with GS. Doesn’t mean that GS is a better weapon.

Yep, the market is hard to predict. New legendaries will probably use the same system as the old one, so Tier 6 and Ectos may go higher in price. At the same time, old precursor are dropping in price right now since ppl keep their cash for the expansion. But the market will stabilize as less and less ppl will use the Mystic toilet to get precursor. Maybe new legendary will be awesome and then nobody will want the old one and the price will drop. Maybe everybody will want to make the collection for a precursor and prices will drop or maybe there will be a lot of restriction and a big part of the community will still buy their precursor. Maybe the new legendary dagger will be ok, but not as cool as Incinerator and then a bunch of ppl that were waiting will make an order for spark, making the price climb. A lot of different thing can happen.

500 Dragonite Ore : Do silverwaste for a couple of hours, just to see the new content and you should have all of it. Maybe do some world boss and boom done.
500 Empyreal and Bloodstone Dust : You should already have that, its everywhere.
30 Obsidian Shard : That so little. You will have it while doing Dragonite Ore in SW, or you should have enough karma for it.
20 Skill points : Easy
160 Wool Scrap : 5.36 gold
80 Cotton Scrap : 2.70 gold
160 Linen Scrap : 7.68 gold
10 Gossamer Scrap : You should have that, just by salvaging
450 Iron Ore : Gallowfields Waypoint (Brisban Wildands)1 rich iron vein and like 3-4 vein. Go there once a day. It will take you at max 18 days with 1 character. 9 days with 2 character. 6 days with 3 characters.
200 Platinum : Rata Pten (Mount Maelstrom) 1-2 Rich and 2-4 vein. Same as Iron, but here it will take at max 10 days with 1 character.
500 Mithril ore : shouldn’t be a problem with salvaging
14 Glob of Ecto : Shouldn’t be a problem with salvaging
180 Spool of Goassamer : 1.15 gold
250 Thermocatalytic Reagent 3.74 gold
5 fine Tier 6 : Shouldn’t be a problem
20 Pile of Crystalline dust : shouldn’t be a problem
5 Glob of Dark Matter : Shouldn’t be a problem
1200 Silk Scrap : 20.4 gold
Leveling Armorsmith 0-500 : 61.79 gold.

Total : 102.82 gold should be the maximum gold you will have to use. Probably less than that. That’s 15 hours of dungeons. Do 1 hours of dungeon + Iron + Platinum everytime you play during 2 weeks and you have your ascended chest. Maybe do Silverwaste for a couples of hours if you need dragonite and that’s it. Not that hard if you know what you are doing. Now if you want to craft a second piece? That’s will only be 41 gold so 6 hours of dungeons. And keep in mind that’s for doing 2 Ascended chest. Do Pauldrons and Greaves and you will divided by 5 your numbers of mythrilium while keeping the same amount of AR.

Ya there is several ways to get around 72%, its doesn’t matter really. Keep in mind that if you can keep your life at 90% for around 60% of the time, then Scholar will always give more dps than Ranger. If you can’t keep it for 60% of the time, then Ranger will be better.

food for stack condition duration u dont need it in dungeon just keep spamming vuln with every explosion (dotate turret, all granades, all bombs, EG #3 and some vuln applied by ur team) with right skill rotation

Detonating your healing turret is a burst of heal, but not the best idea since you gonna lose maximum healing over time. You should pick it up after overcharge. Without food the vulnerability will jump between 12 and 23, dropping to 8 when your rotation is interrupted (like when you dodge). Of course if you have a lot of Warrior, Elementalist and Guardian that give vulnerability you won’t need condition duration food. I always have 2 type of good depending on my party. But I often need the condition duration food. Not because my party can’t go to 25 stacks of vulnerability, but because it can’t keep it up all the time.

Weapons:
- GS + Sw/F is my default combat set.
- Sc/F + Sc/T is my weapons set for big slow boss like bloomhunger (Take Sc/T + Sw/F for lupi so I can have a melee weapons against locust)
- Hammer + Sc/F is my fractal weapons set to give perma protection to my team so we can melee some hard hitting bosses.
- Hammer + Staff is my TA weapons set. I take Staff to kill blossom while running. Since Staff is horrible in dps, I take hammer since its the only weapon that do decent dmg without swaping in combat.
- GS + Staff when I’m running around in Open world

Trait
- 4/6/2/0/2 is my default dps build.
- 4/5/0/0/5 is my when i need more reflect like in SE path 3
- 3/5/0/4/2 is my hammer build

Skills
- Retreat never leave my bar (unless I solo)
- WoR and Purging Flames are my default setup
- Stand your ground when we need stability
- Shield of Avenger when i need more reflect
- Signet of Bane when I don’t need much support
- Save Yourself when I need extra swiftness for skipping
- Smite Condition when I need extra condi removal
- I also use other skills, but at really specific place for specific strategy.

Why I have trouble with Ele ?

Well Elementalist are squishy by nature. They have the lowest amount of HP and Armor and since you play zerker gear with scholar rune, that’s make matters even worst in term of survivability.

1) Your weapon set isn’t that great. D/D is more of a mobility set, which make it really good in PvP, but the worst set in PvE. You have several option. Staff is the highest dps, especially good in group, less practical when you solo. S/D or S/F is best at stacking might for the group, again better for goup content. D/F on the other end is especially good for solo or for hard content.

2) gear is important, but not as much as your trait. For a long time, ppl used to think that Ele didn’t have that much dmg, but they figure out that dmg modifier are powerful and that the Elementalist can have a lot of it. Make sure you have the right trait for your build.

3) Make sure you have the right rotation. LW is the biggest dps skill for a Dagger main hand build, but you also need a rotation to give yourself some might. Make sure you have the proper rotation.

Enemies have different level in the same map. For exemple at Queensdale (the map), you can fight enemies level 5 at Shaemoor Fields (a part of the map), but if you go at Godslost Swamp (another part of the map) enemies will be level 18. Each map have a level range. For queensdale its 1-17 that mean that you shouldn’t go in this map until you are level 1 but there is enemies that you probably won’t be able to kill until you are level 17. So what out the level of enemies and if they are too high for you, go at another part of the map.

Ya. All ascended chest should be like the ascended chest you receive from luminescent collection or ambrite weapons collections. You can choose any stats and any type of gear. At least this way each time you receive a ascended chest it will be a nice reward. Now, most time you receive a ascended chest it only accumulate dust in your inventory/bank/mule.

1) You can do up to level 49 fractal with your AR. You are not block of any content just a level of difficulty. They could make hard mode of all dungeon and put agony resistance there. You could still do the content, just not the highest level of difficulty.

2) You don’t need to grind to get your ascended gear. Cost about 50 gold to get from 400-500 and most if not ALL the stuff you need to craft your armor/weapons can be gather over time just by playing. Ya it will take time, It took me time. Never bought anything for my armor/weapons (except about half the linen/wool/cotton), it took me a while, but I just crafted my 4th armor. If you like that content, it is not hard to craft it.

3) You just need 20 more AR (technically 16, but…). Crafting ascended weapons is cheaper than armor since you don’t need the damask. So you could craft weapons for 10 AR, then there is two rare collections that will give you 1 armor chest of your choice each so you could cheat 20 AR wihtout paying much gold. Another choice would be crafting only 4 of the cheapest ascended armor piece or 2 armor pieces and your weapon. That can be done at a reasonable price if you are heavy or medium.

My personal opinion. Fractal and AR were so much better when it came out. You couldn’t have enough AR to finish higher level so you were relying on your skill. AR was only there to make low level run easier. Agony right now is almost a useless feature that only brought us a small level of gear grind and it used to be a huge gameplay feature.

If you need tips or help to get to 70 AR. Just ask, there is plenty of little way to reach that.

Legendary are first and foremost about the look, not the capability to swap stats. I can see like a legendary amulet that can swap stats and give an effect, but not all trinkets.

The fractal skins collection will be in the game. A bug made this collection visible for some person a while back. Its not ready yet, but it will be in the game eventually. Some datamining discover a Fractal weapon chest of ascended quality, but if the code is in the game, its not accessible yet. My guess is that there will be a update to fractal in HoT and they gonna put ascended fractal weapons chest as a reward and the collection at the same time (because right now with the RNG it would take a long time to complete that collection).

I disagree with Thadd here on the PVE section, with most of the game moving to World Boss and Open World Content, Zerker builds are less favorable because of the new mechanics in places like Silverwastes. I often use a Tanky Axe Shield GS build in PvE and it serves me much better than AxeMace did. Just like GW1, the Meta isn’t applicable to much aside from ‘Hardcore’ interest areas.

If you can’t survive in zerk gear (ZERKER ISN’T A BUILD), nothing wrong with that, but that you. I don’t any single person in my guild that needed a more tanky build for SW. Ya its suprising at first but you bring a bit of immobilize and learn how to dodge and there isn’t much problem there. Axe/Mace is the best setup for dungeon (and combat in general), didn’t say that it should be use everywhere, I carry all weapons in my inventory and so should most ppl. As I also said, he can use variation of the meta and still be pretty good : GS camping or Pure axe both do decent job and you can use whatever off hand you want. It ain’t gonna be ideal, but it will do the job done.

I really like Sword / Shield as it “Feels” like a Warrior, just wish the shield attacks were on a lowered CD, or the Shield gave a better armor bonus ( damage mitigation).

It seems Guardians can do everything a Warrior can but better and survive longer while buffing, healing, protecting? Maybe i am wrong….

I’ll keep leveling and see how it goes!

Guardian and Warrior have about the same dps (Warrior is still on top in most situation, but not by much). Warrior have passive high stats to stay alive, guardian use active defense. Warrior bring offensive buff (vulnerability, banners, might, fury), while guardian bring defensive utilities (blind, aegis, reflection, protection, condi removal). They are both really good and useful. Sword main-hand for a warrior isn’t a good idea in PvE. If you open world solo or dungeon solo or PvP yes its a great weapon, but in group event or dungeon you will not be that useful (Sword is a condition weapon and condition don’t work that well in group). If you really dislike GS, but love sword, you can still play a pure axe build like : Axe/Mace, Axe/Sword.

Guardian main build use GS + Sword/Focus if you would prefer that. Not ideal, but you could play GS + Sword/Shield on a guardian and still have a great build.

80% crit without fury or banner
max dps with nade, 25 stacks on vulnerability, support from EG (#3 and #5 skill)

80% crit chance is way too high unless you are soloing. The sweet spot is 72% in dungeon so that fury + banner of discpline will give you 100%. Replace Ranger for Scholar will give you more dps AND will make sure you don’t go over the 100% crit chance limit. If you want you can use maintenance oil, but that will be useless if there is a ranger in your party with spotter and slaying potion will be better overall.

For food Curry Buttersquash soup isn’t the best choice for engineer. A food with power+condition duration will be better, but they cost as expensive as Buttersquash. There is also condi+condition duration that are good ans far less expensive. These food will allow you to keep vulnerability up for a longer duration.

OP, since you are pretty new in dungeon you should found someone that could explain all or at least part of the dungeon you are running.

Ideally a friendly guild that will bring you with a TS/Mumble/Vent… There is a lot of little tricks that is good to know in dungeon. There is also a sticky in the dungeon forum for the Mentor Guild that help new player in dungeon/fractals if you don’t want/can’t find a guild. Another option is to create a looking for group that specify that you are new to dungeon. There is a lot of friendly ppl that won’t mind explaining to you some small stuff, but you probably gonna have more luck during the weekend when ppl have more time to do their daily stuff. AC is a pretty simple dungeon that need only limited explanation, you should start by that one. Path 1 and 3 are the easiest, path 2 will need a bit more explanation for the final boss, but its still easy.

You should concentrate on either guardian or warrior. Warrior is easier to play because you resistance come from passive stats and ppl only expect that you bring banner as a warrior. Guardian is more resistant than warrior, but its more about active defense and not passive stats. Ppl also expect more from a guardian so if you really want to have zero pressure in dungeon as you learn them, Warrior will be a better choice.

We also seem to keep pulling the mobs after ooze into the ooze room while getting ready to stealth — I don’t remember that happening before, but it happens a lot lately.

That happen when you get too close of them and wait before stealth. Usually it happen either if you try to get rid of a turret there or if you wait at the stealth spot for ppl to be ready. You should regroup in the middle of teh ooze’s room and when everybody is ready go foward and stealth immediatly.

Does it? I was looking the other day just at the tool tips and it looked like the same damage above 50% and after 50% HS gains. I’m not surprised if the tooltip is wrong just saying confirmation that it is would be cool

CnD dmg is different in PvE and PvP. In PvP it have a coefficient of 1, in PvE its 1.5.

HS at 50%+ have a coefficient of 1, 50-25% its 1.5 like the CnD and its 2 at less than 25%. So its always better dps with a CnD unless for the last burst or when you drop a smokescreen and HS to stealh with half the cost in initiative when the target is at less than 50% hp.

It’s sorta funny, my guild (including myself here) is terribad at Arah p1 now. We’ve had to lowman dungeons for so long due to lack of interest that we never had enough people to do tar. Now that we’ve got full parties again, we seem to path every freakin’ mob to us on every skip, lol. Our p4 runs are smoother than our p1s xD

Do you let mobs come at you when you are stealth before running? Because mobs know you are there and are walking slowly toward you, if you just keep running they gonna follow you. Not a problem if you keep running, but if you stop like at a boss, they gonna be a pain in the kitten . You just need to SR where they are, lets them come to you and when they stop moving, then you start running. They won’t follow you anymore.

But it does seem to me that there is something fundamentally similar about all the professions that makes them feel more or less the same to many people, and I wonder if that is more the “active playstyle” than the lack of the trinity itself.

It doesn’t seem like there is any practical way to get out of the playstyle of attacking, and dodging, and supporting. You can’t stand safely out of the fight and ranged DPS or spam heal. You can’t stand toe-to-toe with a boss and face tank him while mocking what a weak little kitten he is. I don’t think there is any way to say, “you go ahead and attack that boss and dodge and stuff… I’m just gonna stand here in the back and buff/heal/control/ranged DPS from safety” or “y’all better dodge, but I don’t have to ‘cause I’m a TANK baby!”

I have no idea how accurate that is, but I sometimes wonder if that is a big chunk of the motivation for people who want more dedicated support or trinity in the game.

You are spot on. Trinity attract certain ppl because they love that role and there is nothing wrong with that. GW2 attract other kind of ppl because its gameplay. They are both good concept that different ppl like or not and its ok.

Ohh that’s nice. Btw is there a timer on Shadow trap as far as how long it lasts, I know it seems like quite some time.

And Iris told me about panic strike, I honestly had never even looked at it before XD

The timer is 2min. With a good group that’s enough to kill the Ooze, when I’m not sure of my group I take Hide in Shadow to stealth myself when the ooze is at 50% hp so he don’t follow me as I go put my trap.

@Thaddeus: You’re looking at celestial/zerker pve, not pvp. Celestial/zerker stats are different in pvp. Of course, marth is referring to pve as well, but I don’t know why anyone would use celestial in pve in the first place…
As far as tough bark goes, going rampager stats would be far better.

No he’s talking about celestial in PvE not PvP. Here :

I’ve been practicing it because I feel like the Mordrem’s AOE condi spam plus tough bark is going to break the zerker meta.

Mordrem’s AoE? That’s pretty much PvE.

Celestial is not all that tanky. 4/7 of your stats are devoted to damage. You actually have more raw stat points devoted to damage than zerker. Power precision ferocity just combos better than power precision ferocity condition damage. That and power is the most important damage stat.

I’ve been practicing it because I feel like the Mordrem’s AOE condi spam plus tough bark is going to break the zerker meta.

More raw stats? Full ascended zerker give you 1087 power + 745 precision + 745 ferocity for a total of 2577pts in dmg. Celestial give you 499pts in power, precision, ferocity and condition. 4 × 499 = 1996pts. Last time I checked 2577 is higher than 1996.

Celestial is tankier than zerker so you have more place for error. Tankier doesn’t mean full tank, its just mean that you have more defensive points and that your situation.

Never though of panic strike for Tar

For the Ooze I take shadow trap and SR. I prepare a trap next to the NPC, my whole group stack on the Ooze when he die, I SR and take the orb, take back my trap and give immediatly the orb to the npc. This way there is no ooze spawing, its easier to stealth in one shot the next run when there is no oozes shooting everywhere.

Oddly enough my shoulders get really tired from all the zerks who are so good at the game that they wall stack and can’t dodge.

That’s not Oddly. Bad players are bad whatever their build is. Tanky build like you run is just more forgiving for bad player (not saying you are a bad player here). Your build is safe, but don’t bring much to the team other than that. Its not a bad thing if you like that, but i prefer challenge myself, this game isn’t that challenging to begin with (its 2 years old content after all).

Ya I though about Slaver in CoF1. Hammer could be a safety net. If the team is good he gonna die quicly, if the team is bad, Hammer will be life saving.

Elementalist and Thief are the highest dps, but Warrior isn’t close to them.

Elementalist are more about AoE/Burst. They also bring good party buff, but they are the hardest profession to play at its max.

Thief are all about single target dps. They also bring stealth for skipping. They are easier to play than Elementalist, a little bit less squishier than elementalist, but mostly because their dps rotation is easier so you can concentrate more on dodge, but its still harder to stay alive on a thief than on a Warrior or Guardian.

Warrior use to be near the top dps, but right now its 5th.

All profession do just great in open world solo so it shouldn’t help you make a decision.

I’m falling back in love with my guardian, and I’ve always just run gs / sw+f. I should give hammer a try.

Any specific dungeon encounters it really shines at? I’m thinking anything with a fast autoattack that the prot might pay off on, like Arah p4 champ knight, or maybe magecrusher?

I would use Hammer more often if there wasn’t the field problem. But if you take that out of the equation. I like bring Hammer in TA. Not because of the encounter, but because Hammer is good by itself so I don’t lose too much dps taking Staff for running those blossom. The champ knight in P4 have one big attack that you can dodge without much problem so hammer don’t really help there. Never really had any problem with magecrusher except when I duo him. The Hammer shine at really fast hitting boss when you cannot dodge his attack. There isn’t such boss in any dungeon so there you should only use hammer for pugs that take long to kill or if you are not 5 in a dungeon (longer fight can be deadly, those small hit add up over time).

Fractal 50 is were the hammer shines where you have boss like Mosman, Archdiviner, Mai Trin, etc. Boss that most ppl just range, but with protection and weakness you can melee them. Don’t get me wrong, there is other place where it’s good, but don’t shine. It can be nice at CoE Alpha path 1, but you can melee it without hammer.

I don’t get it xDudisx. You obviously hate everything about this game. I understand if you just got into the game, but you are here for a long time, keep playing it and keep crying about it. Its not like there is this specific thing that you dislike, we all have that. No you want the gameplay to completely change. That’s beyond me.

Dungeon is boring, world boss are boring, cc and support is not enough for you, you don’t want to stack, dps is stupid, etcc. EVERYTHING about this game seem to burst your nuts.

Keep in mind that PvE and PvP are a lot different.

PvP : Most pvp build for the warrior use a Longbow because its so good, but the other weapon change a lot. The pvp meta build is using sword/warhorn right now, but Hammer or Axe/Sword are also good build especially when you start playing and do not face high end team. But since PvP is all about skill, there is a lot of build that can be good in the right hands even if they are not the best.

PvE : Warrior don’t have the best build diversity in there compare to other profession or Warrior in PvP. Most of us are runing GS + Axe/Mace because its simply the best setup. You can run GS only, or pure Axe build, those are decent build, but if you get away from those weapon to take a Hammer, Sword, Longbow, Rifle or Mace in main hand, then you start having a bad build. Don’t get me wrong you can use any weapons, but you won’t gonna be contributing a lot to your team. And its the internet so ppl are mean sometime when they see these kind of build. You can somehow hide your trait and gear, but you cannot hide what weapon you are using.

Yup, you gonna lose a bit of dps because of skill 4 and 5 of focus, but its not a big deal. Use shield 5 as much as possible to give protection to your team, which is not a bad idea. Otherwise use the exact same build as GS + Sw/F.

Gw2 is a great game but its 2 main problems are the lack of trinity and no real gear progression.

Some people will try to repeat the lie that we have “cc” dps and support but the reallity is that cc is reduced to icebow #4 and support most of the time is offensive support. Games with tank and dps also had cc and support….

The first step would be create a aggro generating mechanic that is control by the player. Could be a sigil or rune set that increases aggro, maybe a trait or signet. With no aggro there is no tank.

OR maybe its just another type of game. There is different type of shooter, well now there is different kind of mmo. Its a type of mmo that some ppl love, there is plenty of Trinity mmo out there, stop trying to change this game, its a DIFFERENT GAME"

Fully buffed, Guardian is higher, always been higher.

Warrior used to do about 20% more dmg than guardian (25% UC uptime) before the September patch. So even with 100% UC uptime you couldn’t get more dps than the warrior. There was the 4/5/0/0/5 build with 100% UC uptime AND all boons that could have higher dps than the warrior, but that’s even more impractical.

Now i’m not sure about the exact impact on the Warrior dps from the september patch, but it only hurt the Warrior when he lose his adrenaline between fight, otherwise he only lost about 2-3% dps. Now the guardian have a better chance to have higher dps than a warrior, but it’s still pretty rare. If the warrior can maintain Adrenaline between fight and the Guardian have 100% uptime UC, then yes he will have higher dps, but that never happen. And if it does, then you didn’t a guardian since aegis didn’t block anything and you should bring an Elementalist instead.

With Berserker you can’t have maximized party support – optimized is possible. Power and ferocity are not increasing your support. Precision does it indirect if it triggers boons. There are much better runes/sigils/crests to increase the supportive abilities. The current encounters favor support and control to a certain amount. Beyond it you wasted any further addition. In the case of damage each further increase increases your efficiency – assumed support and control keep their optimised levels.

We need therefore encounters that favor a certain amount of damage and an as maximised as possible supportive potential. You would still run builds maximised for party support and damage at the same time. You would only use different weapons traits, skills and runes/siglis/etc.

The lack of a strict trinity offers so many more kinds of encounters than a trinity system can ever offer. A trinity system with DPS as one component requires encounters with damage as a role. Otherwise the DPS classes can do nothing. Each trinity-based encounter has to offer each component of the trinity. In GW2 without trinity we can design encounters without any or only a very small damage part as well as encounters without any (major) control or support component.

Who talked about maximixing support? We don’t want to maximize support as much as we don’t want to maximize dps. We want hard content that need both.

Ya If there is no LFG already made, make your own. Trust me it should fill up rather quickly no problem. I never said that it should take you 5 days. I said it’s between 10 and 20 days. It can go even lower if you are already high in level, but that’s not your situation. I never said that 10 days was normal either, its the lower end. If fractal is your main focus for now, you shouldn’t have any problem making 1 fractal per day you are playing. Increasing your level slowly while getting pristine and checking for daily fractal to make sure you get all of those that you can. With zero AR you should be able to do up to level 19 wihtout much problem. Of course if you never dodge Agony shots and take them all in the face it will be a problem. You will need 10 AR to receive the minium incoming dmg from agony. Which you can already do since you have 1 earing and 1 amulet. You just need to get 150 fractal relic to buy yourself 2 versatile infusion. By the time you reach level 10 you should have like 200-300 fractal relics so you should be ok and Agony shouldn’t be a problem AT ALL for you.

Im not saying there wont be a meta, what Im trying to say is that if the meta WAS say 3 dps, a support and a cc, that any profession could potentially fill these roles, therefore allowing for at least 3 builds per profession instead of the current one. We would effectively triple the amount of pve builds currently in game, which sounds much more engaging to me.

And it would be EXACTLY like the trinity. You would see ‘’Looking for a CC’’ or ‘’Looking for a Support’’ in the LFG and ppl would have to wait for a specific role to show up or they wouldn’t be able to complete the content. If everybody could do all those tree role, but would need a complete new build for doing so, then anybody could join, but they would have to change their build completely each time. Change weapons and trait? I could like with that, but that’s pretty much what happen already except that you don’t NEED to change weapons and trait if you don’t want to. Maybe its not enough of a build change and they would need different gear? Then ppl are suppose to bring 2 or 3 different gear when they run dungeon? If they don’t then you get back to the problem of waiting for a specific role that Anet tried to get AWAY from.

It would give more diversity you say?? Most profession have 2-5 different meta build for different situation. My guardian have a dps build, a build against big boss, a reflect build and a support build. With that new system, will I only use my support build all the time or my team wouldn’t be able to stay alive? DPS profession would only have 1 build, the best DPS they can bring. Will the Warrior be only GS camping with full signet? He don’t need support he’s a dps, so no banner, no phalanx, no mace? This is really more diversity?

Okay, put in a different way – scrapping the “required” element as that’s clearly not going to fly:

How would you perceive it if it was more efficient to complete the new content by using more diverse builds that encouraged team support instead?

Ya the ’’required’’ is a super big deal and its the main reason GW2 don’t have trinity. In most modern trinity MMO you can do a great job at two role so you can vary your gameplay and some even allow you to do all three role (that way a tank or healer can solo leveling more easily). So that wasn’t really the problem with Trinity game that pushed Anet to change their system. The main problem was the specialisation of role inside an instance. You are required you have a specific composition to complete a dungeon and that end up being ‘’Looking for a tank’’ or ‘’Looking for a healer’’ for a long time. Especially tank since that’s not a role that a lot of ppl like to play. They changed tank a bit in WoW for exemple to make it more appealing so more ppl would play it. But the problem stay the same. You gonna have to wait for a specific role to show up and complete your party.

To answer your question. If they added more difficult content, I would be SO HAPPY. I want more challenge. But it wouldn’t change how ’’WE’’ play very much. We already bring a tonne of support, we would just bring a little bit more. We already bring might, fury, vulnerabilty, stealth, reflection and condition removal in most dungeon. In harder combat like Archdiviner we bring protection and weakness. If content what even more difficult we would find a way and would be awesome for us to do so. But we would problem make sure to keep 100% weakness on the boss, bring more vigor, sigil of energy, the right potion and food, etc. We wouldn’t change our gear because stats don’t affect support, we would change our build, but we already developed more support build for most profession, they would be some change, but they would be minor. The only difference is that we would bring more of what is already developed. Remember that most support have cooldown. 5 ppl doing both support and dps is more efficient than 4 dps and 1 full support. And its more fun

You should go for exotic armor & weapons first. They are cheaper than ascended version so they are easy to get and you can experiment with them. Getting something wrong won’t gonna ruin you. For Amulet, Rings and Earing you should go strait for ascended since they are relatively cheap. Here are some ways you can get some of your first suff.

- Ascended Amulet : WvW vendor for laurel + badge of honor.
- Ascended Rings : Fractals
- Ascended Accessories : Guild Missions
- Exotic Backitem : Crafting, Guild vendor (no necessary, ascended back item can be costly, but they don,t give much stats. You can go without any back item until you can get your first ascended back item if you want)
- Exotic Armor and Weapons : I prefer buying them with dungeons token. Otherwise you can buy them off the TP for gold or craft them. You can also buy armor with karma or badge of honor but you can’t salvage them so be aware of that since you won’t be able to keep you runes if you switch gear.

Its based on the lower of the two. If you are level 39 and are doing level 1-10 you are getting reward from level 1-10. If you are level 10 and are doing level 50 you are getting the reward from level 10.

Try any other melee/low ranged class in the game except perhaps thief and the DPS is even lower. Maybe guardian is equal, I don’t know exactly.

Any other class in the game except thief that have more dps than Warrior? Elementalist, Rangers and Engineer. Guardian is pretty similar, but a bit lower in most situation than Warrior. Mesmer is usually less dps than warrior but for long fight where the mesmer can keep up 3 phantasms and reflect stuff he will have higher dps than warrior (but that rarely happen).

2 rings from Laurels with take you 28 days to get and that way you ain’t gonna be able to buy your amulet and since 50 laurels is equal to about 50-75 gold, well its kind of expansive. Now of course if you dislike Fractal, its a good way to go.

But from fractal, its will take you 20days at most, even 10 days if you are luck with Daily. And if you like fractal, you gonna want to get as high as possible. By the time you reach level 50 you will have enough rings drop and pristine to give rings to all the character you want.

A good way to give support builds more viability is to add more NPC’s that need to be kept alive in order for the event to complete. There was a lot of that added in the new areas and its a step in the right direction. I very much enjoyed keeping the Warmasters and the Dolyaks alive in the Silverwastes on my Elementalist.

For dungeons, not sure really. Perhaps add similar mechanics, like the NPC can’t die or you have to restart the instance (With check points of course). They could even revamp the old instances. Perhaps even tone down self healing on characters that have no stats in healing, thus requiring more support characters needed in groups. I’m not talking about adding the trinity back, but perhaps in harder end game content its more beneficial to the group and events to have players built as support.

More important NPC?? Please kill me now. Each time you need a NPC he bug, screw up, don’t go where he’s suppose to. If they could remove NPC from dungeon that would be fantastic. My opinion is that NPC are evil in dungeon.

Its one of the top 5 best profession in pvp right now, so its not that bad of a place. The problem with Warrior is that ppl use to play a lot of GS, but it got nerf bad. Ppl just have a hard time trying other weapons I guess.

For PvE, Warrior are pretty much buff/banner kitten only now. But they are really good at that lol.

Just wondering.. What 3 classes are out of your top 5?

Necromancers : They don’t cleave, they have good burst and instant, but not good sustain dps.
Mesmer : They can have higher DPS, but that rely on reflect and if they can keep 3 phantasms. So if technically they can have higher DPS isn’t not as reliable as other profession.
Guardian : Since september, they are really close to Warrior, but Guardian vs Warrior in term of dps depend on the situation. If the Guardian have Aegis and the Warrior don’t have adrenaline the Guardian will probably have a better dps. But most of the time the Warrior is able to have adrenaline rather quicly and the guardian will use Aegis to keep his team alive. But they are both really close to each other.

Because the meta 4/6/2/0/2 give you 57% in ascended gear. If you add a Banner of Discpline and Fury that go to 85% when you are in GS. When you are in Sword/Focus you reach 100%. You still have food and spotter that will be useless while you are in Sword.

The choice are expanded, the diversity is expanded. Let me see the other way around.

I have a build with AH and Pure of Voice on my WvW guardian. But I want Indomitable Courage too. What do I do, I make a choice. I can’t have both so I have to make a decision, what will be the best choice for me. What can I sacrifice and what is worth that sacrifice.

You can see expanding as expanding your capabilities or expanding your choice. I prefer the second one, its more engaging for me. But that’s just my 2cents

1) Bad zerk player die and finish the boss in range.
2) Good zerk player die, learn, then finish the boss in melee.

Hard boss vs cleric player? They will also range it or use their heal and support better to melee the boss. They will take longer to kill him, but they can adapt to.
Same with Valkyrie, knight, soldier, etc.

Again you are using zerk over and over again. Assassin is a better choice for some profession and I HOPE anet will fix condition in PvE so we can say Zerker/Assassin/Sinister/Rampager. Pls anet help us help you lol.

So what then is the point of any build and/or gear that isn’t optimised towards being zerk? Anet might as well just delete all non-zerk stuff from the game?

Well, lets tackle this question in two part.

Well, there is different build optimized toward different content. I want a fractal guardian build against Archdiviner so my group can melee him and not range him. I want a dps build in CoF, but I want a build with more reflect in SE for the cart. I want my sceptre build against Lupi. I will have different build also depending on my composition. Won’t gonna bring S/X Elementalist if there is a phalanx warrior in my group like I won’t have take 5pts in air If there is an nade engineer in my group. All of these are optimized choice and there is plenty of them. You can also bring a general purpose meta build that will work good for most content, not everybody want to switch in the middle of a path.

Then there is also not optimized build that are still great. You want play Mace/Shield with your guardian because you like it. If you are zerker with a good trait, sigils, food,.. you are probably still better than most pugs anyway so go for it man. You are a Warrior with frostfang and want to dual wield it because its cool. Otherwise you have a good build and you pugs, you are still better than most pugs so have fun with two frostfang, you look awesome. You want want to change some stuff on the meta build because you are a casual or are learning the game? Put some celestial or knight soldier gear in there my man, dead dps=no dps so learn how to dodge before going full zerker, that’s a better choice for you.

What’s the point of not optimized gear and build? The fun you are having while playing, that’s the point. If you like being optimized, then go for it. If you like to be good, but don’t want to use that particular meta, adapt the meta to fit what you prefer, you’ll still be good in pugs and you will have fun. Take some defence if you always down in full meta, way more fun to play with your character than play a down character half the dungeon. You want to play healer? You can still play it and have fun. A have a bunch of those in my guild. We don’t do dungeon together, but otherwise we all have fun and we do other things together. The point is having fun.
