To answer your question, EoTM was introduced as an overflow to WvW and a place where different concepts could be tested by the devs. It was designed to be slightly different for each side unlike the regular WvW borderlands. It was designed to be a three sided fight containing all servers of the same color for a given week to help ensure full maps. What it is now is up to the players. It is a place that people can level toons, so is regular WvW. It is a place that you can fight other players, so is regular WvW. Its a place where there are objectives you control and can defend. So does regular WvW. It does not tie into the weekly server rank points. Will hold my opinion there on that.

So what is it, that’s up to you. Defending in EoTM is not trolling and not against EULA, sending people abusive tells is. There are people that will just k-train in EoTM, some people that will just fight and a lot that will do both. If the map looks more one way or another to you, try exiting and re-enetering. Or see if you have a friend in an instance that has more what you are looking for an join on them. Either way good to have more people in the field for fights. Enjoy your stay and Good hunting to you!

Since they’ve ripped off BLCK farming, they could at least increase the odds of receiving scraps… even now it’s VERY rare.

I hate to tell you this, but they did. Its RNG. In a series of 10 chests I opened yesterday I got 1 full ticket and 11 scraps. Three chests had 2 scraps each.

I could be wrong now though. I haven’t leveled a character to 80 with the new trait and npe changes.

Try it first. I have done both now. The old one had a better feel to it and made more sense. The new one is just more shiny, but more painful. I like that people have different ways to do similar things in game, but the new system forces you to either go do x or else pay in coin. I think this could have been done differently to mix the two systems by allowing early unlocks via the options that are there now or auto-unlocks ‘x’ levels later. I rarely feel that games start at the top level but this one does. Add in ToK that are granted to people and why would you not expect them to power level. Why would you want to reburn time/coin with gear setups in the lower levels when you know that you will be keeping none of it at 80. As far as the argument take time to level to learn your class, how can you learn your class if you are not working with all your skills to be able to try out combinations that work for you. It makes sense to try new changes out and you need time to evaluate those changes before changing again, but there is more tuning to be done.

Alternate costs or variable options would be nice addition. Agree this doesn’t address he defense issue but it’s a good way to allow people to use alternate funds. Mentioned in another thread would like a way to offset costs with harvested mats or items that people could craft. Image a way for a crafter to build building materials that could be used to pay for upgrades.

Created similar posts in the past as well and agree with many of the above. The more tools that the devs allow players to have the more potential that each map will be different and that keeps WvW fresh. Not to mention it allows for tie-ins to other parts of the game. Example allow those upgrades to be built using coin or materials. Barricade, 5 silver or 50 elder wood/ 50 iron / 50 leather and 1 silver. Upgrade your borderland w/ map upgrade and your home server PvE players gain 2% boost in magic find while your borderland keep has the boost. Mega servers created a divide, WvW could do even more to bring people back together and still enjoy the benefits of fuller maps.

The players mentality have shaped eotm into what it currently is.It’s easy to blame anet,i think they could do some minor changes so it wont be just a karma train going from champ to champ avoiding fights.The map had great potential but the people kinda ruined that.

I think this is part of it. I have seen karma trains on the regular borderlands as well in the past, unless people believe that you need 50 people to take empty objectives all together and one at a time without any enemies on the map.

As we have seen above some people finds fights on EoTM and some just find people avoiding fights. To me, that says its not a map issue. Another we have seen is statements of loot differences. Was paying more attention to this and besides the extra chest, which contains shards/badges which you can get w/o it being in said chests in regular maps its pretty close, so am starting to question that. Drops rates are RNG, you just more NPCs in EoTM then regular maps if you are not finding other players to kill.

Appreciate all the replies so far. Personally I like the map flow and design and still would like to see it included in scoring for weekly points but wanted to see if people had more reasons that would indicate why it shouldn’t be.

I’m a straight male and I fully support more skimpy armors for males. Just because it opens more choices for character design.

Sometimes you want to show a disregard for danger by wearing minimal armor. (why can’t we dress like Zerk operates?)

Humor value. Maybe you just think it’s funny to run around killing things half-naked. (I want to fight dragons in a speedo. I mean my toon wearing one. A dragon in a speedo would be ridiculous)

Maybe you just want to dress like a piece of eyecandy. (ladies can appreciate this, too….. I have female guildies that have stated they would be more likely to make male toons if they could make them all beefcake)

I’m all for making more skimpy female armor as well… while female armor does show more skin, your options are actually still fairly limited if you want to go full on stripperiffic.

Then again It’s also hard to make a female set that doesn’t show skin either…. both need to be addressed I think.

Straight as well and can support the idea. In other games it was rather fun to do naked assaults. Nothing better in PvP then being killed by the naked people even if you were laughing while they killed you. Something to be said for the shock factor as well. Options are the key though.

Frankly, I don’t think it matters where you sort it.

To be honest there are three reasons for this thread:

  • Honestly would like to see EoTM tied more closely into WvW for points
  • Alternatively would like to see an EoTM map added to the maps for the 3 server matches, EB/EoTM/3 Borderlands
  • Would like to know why some people like and dislike in case they design us more maps in the future

By asking people why they don’t think its WvW hope to try and figure out if its the design or how people have used it that effects people’s impressions.

To me, anywhere that you allow people to fight each other for control of objectives in an open world is WvW. I see uplevels, karma farms, empty takes, uneven fights all the time in the regular maps so does that mean anything out of T1 is EoTM? It is annoying that time spent in EoTM doesn’t help out your server, and that is part of the issue in my book.

Not looking to rile anyone up, just something interesting on the forums that might lead to better products down the road. Good hunting!

Based on the responses so far let me spin it a bit. Would anyone have an issue if the map was moved into the regular borderlands as well? Aka added to EB and the 3 borderlands for regular WvW play as well? Leave server population out from the question for a minute, is there anything besides the garrison keeps not being equally weighted that would make opposed to this? If so..what? Good hunting!

The mechanics for each colour actually make EotM way too imbalanced for competitive play. Here is the red side case:

If the weaker server is red, their keep will just be farmed over and over because of the workshop… It’s impossible to defend against a horde of mobile siege. If people are a bit smart they won’t stand udner AC fire and the wall will melt in seconds.

If the strongest server is red, they can sweep anything they want with a horde of mobile siege. It’s like a golem rush, but for free… They have the bodies to escort the devourers and a lot of people to be on devourers themselves.

I admit I like red since to me it leads to more fights since the other hit red so much. I agree here I think this is one of the bigger issues people have with the design. But I wonder if with small changes or even flipping sides on who controls which zone would help balancing out the 1-3 positions. We have seen small changes have large effects on the strengths of the keeps. Blue to me is one of the best to defend with its inner bastion. When someone actively hold its it can be murderous to take.

EotM you usually don’t fight other players. In WvW you always do.

Actually take any imbalanced borderland fight and this is 100% false. It happens all the times on regular maps where one side is capping empty structures, especially if its imbalanced or one server has a time zone covered that the others don’t. If anything EoTM as a map is more like EB where you are more likely to encounter enemies if you simply move to the middle of the map. I am going to group this in the player issue side versus map design side for now.

Agree, it would be nice if there was a solo-mode for the dungeons if you are in a mind to do so. This is an MMO but all of the story content can be done solo, why not dungeons as well. +1 here. Good hunting.

So what are your thoughts on fight with this creature in your living story?

For me it was very frustrating. I appreciate anet trying to add some challenge, but it seemed a ‘bit’ cheap to me. It would be nice to have a warning before each mission, like “this fight will be extremely long, unfair and repetitive”.
(I say unfair because it’s a new monster – it attacks with a series of vines that randomly pull you from any place on the ‘stage’. And everything seems to take almost half of your HP)
Do not fight it without stability buffs. Do not.
I feel really bad for casual players and people with defensive builds…

Maybe it’s just me though. Did you guys like it?

From a player using PVT gear, it wasn’t so bad so far. Have more alts to run it through on yet. Not sure if you classify that as defensive gear or not.

Would have to go with oil. People will typically kill it first but its too easy to kill the people operating it to make it effective in the borderlands. Its limited range and abilities also don’t help. I have to agree with Dayra above as well it is better placed in EoTM.

So each week we get EoTM threads and each time we get a number of people that say EoTM is not WvW. So for those that feel that way, what is it about EoTM that makes you say this? Been wondering what makes some people dismiss EoTM from the WvW classification. To me it’s more of a player mindset then a map mechanic but was trying to understand what drives some people against it.

Some of the reasons I have seen stated in other threads are:

  • Points don’t add into weekly score (Game Mechanic)
  • You are not playing with just your server (Game Mechanic)
  • People don’t defend objectives (Player Issue)
  • Matches are too short (Game Mechanic)
  • Can’t upgrade structures (Game Mechanic)
  • Players don’t seek fights (Player Issue)

So if you don’t think EoTM is WvW, why for you and what would make you feel it belongs in WvW? Good hunting!

Scoring Discussion

24 hour coverage could be fixed by combining the NA/EU servers together then breaking down the scoring system into 8 hour PPT grinds to give the NA/OCX and EU players something to work for a final score to be accumulated at the end of each 8 hour time frame.

Out of curiosity are you picturing combining the servers or just the server’s scores? I get why they have EU/NA servers even if I prefer them mixed, but hadn’t thought about leaving the server’s separate but combining their points before.

Scoring Discussion

@Flitzie. I think you walking in the right direction, maybe not straight as you said but that can be actually a good start to make the new system. I just disagree on one thing, if you make MU last only couple of hours, the part of upgrading is lost, there is no time to upgrade either towers or keeps, and of course you could reduce the timers but that would do nothing since has no sense to upgrade a waypoint in a keep in 1 hour or less.

This one has actually been discussed above. Some of the thoughts were that even though the match point was awarded to the servers after the ‘x’ hour matchup, the current control, upgrades and siege were persistent into the next round of scoring. The mini-matches were just used to calculate into the total weekly score. Side with coverage may still win but they won’t score 3 nights worth of points over a single night’s time.

Eotm and WvW Loot bags problem

+10000000. Would love to see AoE loot turn into auto-loot where it places the item into your inventory. Maybe I am under estimating the number of people that kill things but want to skip any drops that result from that activity, but I doubt it. If anything this is one reason people will stay and lie dead to try and get a chance to get drops that have spawned around them when they fell. The game already has the coding in place to handle full inventory, have it turn off the auto-loot feature in that situation to prevent any issues created from over inventory. This would be a nice QoL change.

Allow Skip Cut Scene In All Challanges

Challenges are a nice touch and can be fun, unless they are behind long cut scenes. You effectively take a positive experience and a negative reinforcement behind it. This leaves the player asking why am spending time doing this action which in time leads to why play this game over another since time is valuable. Please consider this as you design/redesign this type of interaction in the future. Thanks for your time.

I’m an person who wants mounts in the game and I have a reasons why I want them.

3) You go and explore faster with your epic mount and it will be more enjoyable then running and porting around

6) You can made diffrerent mounts speed for lower or bigger levels (60%) for lower and (100%) for higher levels

7) Mount can be shown as an effort you put in the game, something like legendarys. If you’re a hardcore player you will probably have some epic mount, much color, much epicness, much speed, much girls and so on

I paraphrased you a little to target certain points in particular. I think the biggest issue I have with the mount topic is that there are other aspects of the game that I would prefer them to target for development. Now different teams have different aspects they would need to address and I think mounts would impact a lot of teams’ time and budget therefore taking them away from other development.

That said as soon as you granted the above points you moved mounts into the category of you need everyone to have them which changes from a “I would like” to a “You will need” item. You may be looking at it from just a PvE side but this opens the door to WvW and PvP and that greatly increases the scale of this with balancing, game client mechanics on forcing dismount and so fourth. If are you suggesting this just for PvE I would further oppose this since they should be developing aspects of the game for all play modes and less that only affect one play mode, in my opinion.

Anyway, quick counter thoughts and I will leave it from there. Good hunting!

I think the under lying premise of what Album Boa is saying is give guards/scouts more things to do and I support that idea. What sort of activities is that is the question and the bigger topic. Come on CDI on scouts!

I admit I concur, have heard the arguments but it still feels off that the seller pays both fees. As I have said in other threads if an order is placed as a buy then the listing fee should be paid by the buyer not the seller. This does drive the price down but it devalues the time that the player spent in RNG world on finding or making said item if someone can just say nah it’s only worth half that and then the seller is still penalized. Cash is king but this is by far a buyer’s market, balance it back out some and give a little more value back to the player bringing goods to market. [Suggestion] Currencies & The Wallet

+10000 here, one of the concepts I loved about the wallet as the thought that this architecture could then be expanded to allow new currencies to be quickly added to it freeing up inventory space for non-repeating items. Were we wrong about the wallet?

Hmm… What about the following:

2. Enemies which are killed via finishers cannot be revived at all (even when out of combat) and must waypoint. This makes stopping to use finishers on enemies another tactical decision via letting your zerg simply steamroll over them.

That’s a nice twist and would also allow a more structured force to take advantage and have an edge against a large mass. I say this even as I support PuG warbands. I feel that smaller more organized teams should have an advantage in team play and this goes in that direction. +1 on adding that one.

First off I support linking EoTM into the weekly scoring of the borderlands. One of the main reasons for this is to more closely tie them together and make use of that time people are putting into the map work in favor of the servers they are on.

Now I enjoy the borderlands and EoTM. Since the time I spend in EoTM does not count toward my servers PPT I try not and visit unless soloing, need a change or the server has a good lead already.

So what makes EoTM fun, various things.

The map itself is more challenging with the potential falls. There are more bottlenecks that can be defended and held. There are lots of ways out of the keep entry so there is less spawn camping. Some matches in the regular Borderlands the enemy can simply use a few to watch where you will have to exit therefore quickly shutting down a havoc group, in EoTM there are more ways out of spawn due to the inner and outer walls. You can still be blocked if they control your base keep but starting inside the outer walls gives you and advantage to retake it.

The map shape like EB lends itself to central fights, and if people are looking for fights it tends to spawn more people crossing the map therefor there are a number of opportunity fights for soloers and or small groups. You will find zergs like you do in the Borderlands, but there are more obstacles that you can use to try and pick some of them off or to get away from them with.

Have seen small groups crush zergs by using the terrain and walkways to out position larger forces and wipe them. In the regular Borderlands people don’t often stop to worry about where they are positioning, in EoTM that could get you killed. The mixed elevations also allow for some interesting ambushes and the on fall abilities actually have value.

The weather has also played roles, nothing better than 2 forces running through ground level clouds right into each other and the chaos that ensues. You can also use weather to avoid line of sight of a siege or to ambush from.

EoTM also tends to have sides that are closer in numbers. When on a lower tier server there might have been a few fights to find on the Borderlands but you were more likely to find the potential for one in the mists. As you go higher in the tiers of servers this isn’t a big of a deal but if you ever play off hours it might be. Its sort of like finding instant action in PvP via hotjoins but for WvW.

As far as loot, if anything I agree with previous statements you don’t play WvW to get rich, but that doesn’t mean you should have to go PvE to make funds to support your WvW habit either. If anything bring the Borderlands up to EoTM in drops versus the other way.

Now can’t talk towards uplevels. Started WvW at level 2 with no gear. Its brutal in both the Borderlands and EoTM. The difference is people don’t warn(being polite here) others away in EoTM like they do in the Borderlands. If the bolster system is the same then why shun players in one area and not the other. Have to blame the players here versus the map. If the bolster system needs some tweaks then lets address that or better yet the rally issue that’s a bigger concern with uplevels.

It’s the players that make EoTM a karma farm and the biggest crutch people use is because its not tied into PPT so why does it matter, hence why I say change that. Even if you don’t want to tie into the PPT due to the mixed severs involved, then move the map over to the regular maps and include it with EB and the borderlands. Its a nice map that adds variety into the feel of the Borderlands.

Once again there have been various threads covering different aspects of these but while other WvW changes are being considered wouldn’t mind seeing a CDI on this.

Till then wanted to restart a dialog and see where others stood. Looking at ways to allow people to offset larger forces while creating more of a difference in a downed player versus a dead one. I believe a tighter knit team would have more advantage with these concepts. I am leaving class skills/traits out of this for now to keep it a higher level of discussion. Personally I like it when players need to make decisions since it adds more variations to fights and makes each one different. I also like to see ways to break up larger formations am also looking for more ways that players actions can impact a larger enemy force.

Here are some thoughts on changes to these functions:

Downed – Increased downed health pool by 50%, only allow downed individuals to self revive or be able to revived by others. No rallys.
Why: Will offset changes to the dead state allowing people more of a chance to revive if being cleaved while increasing importance of a stomp.

Dead – 3 minute timer before game forces respawn. Timer stops if someone is actively rezzing the player, timer continues if someone stops rezzing the player and timer continues where it left off. Doesn’t matter if the player is 99% rezzed if they stopped being rezzed and run out of time they are respawned.
Why: Increases importance of reviving versus rezzing. Larger force still has an advantage
but it is offset by having to choose between stopping to revive someone before they are dead else taking even longer to rez them before they are forced back to spawn. This also mitigates the ability of a larger force from completely reconstituting itself from a few players. It either has to stop and address its downed/dead or it will lose numbers before they are forced to respawn. This increases the value of hit and run attacks that have little impact today and now adds value to a defender that can bleed out a larger force. Pyrrhic victories have more of a sting to them in this scenario where as today its as if the enemy never contested the objective since the attacker can get right back to full strength.

Revive – Reviving rates remain the same, a higher rate of revive is applied when not in combat and a decreased rate while in combat. I do not advocate the removal of allowing a revive while in combat since I want that to be a tactical issue with the person having to choose to keep fighting or bring an ally up.

Rez – Rezzing rates are reduced by 50% to offset the increased health pool while the player was in a downed state. Same rules as revive, higher rez rates are applied while out of combat but lower rates are applied while in combat. Once again people can rez while in combat but it will take a lot longer meaning that 2 players are out of the fight versus one.
Why: See dead and downed above. Looking to increase the difference in the states and not allow people to just stay dead in case their side wins and can get everyone back up. Also as above this adds even more value in a stomp since you if can take someone out of the fight odds are better they really will be running back unless aided.

Rally – Remove it completely from WvW.
Why: The focus here is that if someone is downed they need to be revived. There are various negative aspects from rally and unless it was coded that only a single player can rally then it should be removed. This counters my above statement about having players decisions be important but when 3 people can rally off a single player or creature it heavily favors the larger force, not to mention the negative connection that is created by uplevels. In preference would prefer that this is removed from WvW.

Sword changes already affecting game play

I do appreciate the concept that in order to understand a change in WvW you need to run that change in the real time since trying to get enough people into a test environment to simulate may not create the same result since there are a large number of variables in motion.

That said a change to the alarm that white swords indicate needs to be counter balanced with other changes else it may result in the predictions being made. Removing a tool on the defense side needs to be balanced with additional changes that aid the defender versus just aiding the attacker.

One of the results of no white swords maybe the loss of people upgrading structures. Since you know if will be ninja’d, why lose the coin? Unless there is some increased value in the structures that are upgraded, either increased strength of upgrades (even tougher walls/doors/guards) or increased holding value (PPT) because of the upgrade
then we might just see keeps upgraded to get WPs. You can already get into a fully upgraded T3 keep now pretty quick with a low number of people if no one knows to show up and slow that force down. Large forces already know how to not trigger orange swords. There needs to be additional value in that upgraded structure since it just being tougher to take is negated by not knowing its being taken. Maybe even if a new track was added to the upgrade lines that re-activates the sword alert if that upgrade is bought. You could further that path by extended the alert radius per upgrade in that path. Example for a keep it starts at inner walls, then outer walls and then maybe outer roaming guards. Same concept on towers and camps.

Likewise, if there is no incentive to sentry, why do it? If you know that no one is upgrading something since they are afraid that as soon as they leave it will just be gone then you are standing watching a paper keep while you are awarded with time to alt-tab out and play another game? A concentrated thread on sentry incentives would need to have/has been/has had been done on changes to encourage remaining in one place for extended periods.

Today you can already experience the ‘why upgrade it’ syndrome on any server that is missing a time zone in coverage. As you approach that time zone people’s mentality switches to ’don’t worry about the upgrades, no one is going to be around to defend it anyway so it will be paper by the time we are back.’ This will probably increase the we will just take it back before flip calls.

And the potential for trolling. Currently white swords pop and people are asking for confirmation to make sure its not a decoy. Your risk is low that you are being trolled since there was a real game alert. Afterwards you might just get some people sending out false alarms to troll one server or if you have a player upset with the server they are on. A counter to this might be to allow a player to act like an EoTM sentry post and show the dots of enemies that are nearby to them but not sure if there are hidden system issues to that approach. Maybe a combination of this and allowing a player to ping a group could be used to create additional incentive to have people scout. You could even start to use this as a structure to award that scout if the enemy actually attacks the structure being reported on. That way your not encouraging AFK scouts.

Once again all for testing in real WvW and could be fun having some rule variances from time to time but wouldn’t mind hearing about thoughts that balance offensive and defensive capabilities. Good hunting!

As has been stated in the past, WvW in general is more of a cash sink versus cash generator if you spend coin on upgrades, siege and the such. Also in general WvWers may tend to want to WvW versus run dungeons with some cross over here and there. For the PvPers there is the reward tracks. That system in general seems to have been well received. When first announced there was some threads here asking if that system could be also implemented for WvW. While other changes are being considered for WvW it would be nice if this one would also be revisited.

Although I disagree with the implementation of the new system, this can easily be remedied by simply adding an “Advanced” option and having the “Basic” option as the default.

So for those who like the more advanced UI for exchange, they can enable it from the game option.

Problem solved.

If by basic you mean the new interface and advanced you mean the old, that would work. As has been suggested before having the old options with quick buy block options that the new system uses would have also worked.
