Why are "elitists" viewed as the evil ones?

We have no obligation to do so.

No you don’t, but it is YOUR best interests to do it anyways.

Says who, you? Don’t force your opinions on others please.

Do you realise how much time we would spend explaining if we did that for every single person?

What’s the alternative? People reading LFG message working out?

Yes LFG message works in fact. Even considering how many times people join groups w/o bothering to read or follow directions, these LFG with requirements fill just fine.

It seems you live in fantasy land with your unnatural optimism. But unfortunately the world isnt quite like that. Deal with it. Not everyone is willing to help others and certainly not all the time.

That’s pretty ironic statement considering I’m not the one with the problem people playing how they want.

It isn’t ironic, none of the regulars here have a problem with people playing how they want. They just have a problem with those not that do not read or follow the directions that the LFG states.

You are the one creating problems here. Please quit trying to make an issue where there isn’t any.

Noticing you signature I’m starting to see why you keep making up things stirring up drama. Just because people say and prove that your burning guardian build sucks in meta PvE, doesn’t mean you have to take your angst out on the people that want nothing to do with you.

So, I think this brings up an important question: how do people learn fast, efficient runs? I’d assume it’s a combination of knowing the path a bit (having done it inefficiently enough times), watching videos and maybe just jumping in and professing your ignorance with an experienced group and hoping they teach you. That’s pretty well how I started, anyway, except I kept my mouth shut and just watched and followed.

Do people kick players that join and ask to be taught, or that are obviously learning?

There are many resources available to players that want to improve.

Crystal vs. dodge:

tl;dv: nope, can’t dodge it.

ty frifox, nice vid

I think crystal dodge only works if you do it before the tell, once he jumps you’re already frozen. One of those dumb animation mismatches.

Also trying to teleport out of the crystal usually bugs it for me.

I’m thinking this might be the case as well. I’ll have to pay closer attention if I manage to evade it again.

If you’re quick enough you can also evade it. The animation is quick though.

You can’t evade it. Only skills that “evade” it are ones that make you invulnerable, dodging however does not.

You are the CoE hermit, so I concede to your judgement, but I know for a fact that I’ve caught evasion frames while he did the crystal tells. This was w/o stability or invuln. I have however been caught mid dodge, but I’ve attributed that to me dodging too late.

I don’t suppose you have any vids of failed crystal dodges?

The stun bug happens when you kill the crystal too fast. You can prevent this by applying party-wide stability before he gets in LOS. A popular choice is guardian’s “Hallowed Ground.”

tip for mesmers: run shatter build and take portal. when the terminal is going to be destroyed, run to corner, spawn portal, get teleported and AVOID COMBAT, then wp to the waypoint at Belka and spawn portal. use terminal again and continue the fight

That’s pretty clever!

Why run shatter?

Phantasm (any minion) can’t do damage to Brie bc of the phaseshift mechanic, and mesmer regular attacks hit like a wet noodle. Shatter is the best option for that boss.

edit: And no, the pug environment is poisenous, full of people whom skip and stack at ever interval even when the game whom made the party asked not to(first hand experience,) and where 4/5 groups are all “lvl 80, exp, zerk only.” Need I even mention the point I was told “F**** KILL YOURSELF” for going against the instruction guides? Sound healthy to you?

From reading your defensive posts on this subforum, I can safely say that you prove my point in my previous post regarding the minority complaining about this made-up problem in the pugging environment. You seem on edge, get help or take a break from the game. Stop lashing out at people who want nothing to do with you.

The Pug environment is fine and healthy. The people who are complaining are well in the minority and are simply misdirecting their frustration or are just plain speaking out of their behind.

I pug daily, and often I use the ranger/necro/engi/whatever class people think makes them get kicked these days. When I do I almost always join non-descriptive lfg’s, or I make my own simple lfg “p2”. I never have a problem with the people that join or with the party that I join regarding meta/elitistkitten/kazul/whatever is being complained about in this thread.

IMO the root of the problem is this: people who see lfg posts with descriptions that excludes their type of playstyle get unjustly offended. Their insecurity and low self esteem sends their minds into a “OMG HOW DARE YOU EXCLUDE ME” frenzy and they start thinking up of irrational ways to blame this made up “toxic lfg pugging environment” on the people that simply want to play with other people with similar playstyles.

My advice is to chill the F out and just play the game. There are plenty of people that will play with you w/o any requirements. I do so daily.

How long did it take you to solo Lupi?

I pug a lot and still do I don’t remember how many tries or hours it took me, but how I did it was through the help of patient pugs.

This was back when ranging phase1 was still meta I’d join pug arah groups on my warrior or mesmer (whatever I felt like playing at the time) and I would ask if i could melee lupi. This resulted in many fails as it took many groups and tries before I could actually read the kick tells. Luckily, in many cases, the pugs would try to rez me when it was safe and I would continue or more often than not the group would wipe and I would get to retry.

This went on for what seemed like 3423523 years in my head. One day it just clicked and I was in a good rhythm. I started seeing patterns and everything suddenly became easier. Eventually, I was able to carry pugs consistently past lupi during arah runs. It was a good feeling. Not long after that I started to do solo dungeons attempts.

Thank you friendly pugs!

Am I forced to play melee in dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Tom Yzf.5872

There is no one in this forum or in the game that can force you to play a specific playstyle, so you shouldn’t let them.

If you want to maximize you damage and your groups damage, then play melee with the current meta builds. However, if you don’t care about any of that and just want to have fun in your own way, then play whatever build you want.

The only caveat you are asked to play with like minded people, so look for “all welcome” lfg posts to join or create your own. I suggest a lfg description “all playstyles welcome” to be more detailed.

As for range recommendations, you should try staff ele or nades engi.
Although more optimal in melee, these have the option to play at range in their respective meta builds.

Great job, and very cleanly done. You max melee very well. As for the question about why warrior is easier to solo on this boss, it is because you have the base HP and armor to make the mistakes that most other classes cannot.

One thing that caught my eye at lupi, why did I get hit at 1:54?

It doesn’t have anything to do with elevation. It happened because one of your party members dodged the range attack. Gw2 registered it as an evade and you took the splash damage. Much like how aegis procs even when you’re in melee range. Notice how 1 other member in your party took damage but the other one didn’t.

Are you accounting the fact that those attacks are supposed to hit you only if you’re at a certain range from him, and not when you’re melee?

Yes. Aegis also pops when lupi does his range aa while you stand in melee. Looking again at the vid, you can see the warr WW into the wall. He was the only one who didn’t take the splash damage.

Been thinking about… If you were to allow rezzing: Only one member is allowed to rezz. The others have to wait on the spot before they are allowed to go to the next boss. Changing armor to those “increase rezz-speed” shouldn’t be allowed.
Having to wait till one player rezzes the defeated player takes some time and should be enough of a penalty?

I think this is a great idea

Long time lurker here. I felt this thread was too awesome to not come out of the shadows and make my first post.

Thanks to all the people that made this possible. It was very entertaining to watch, and the viewer turnout was spectacular.

I’d like to make some comments and suggestions that can be digested now but need no response as like Grouch said, you guys are tired.

- I loved the no WP rule. The reason why the teams fell into death was because they were not prepared for it. It felt like a pug run where there was no communication or situation awareness. It was exciting to see speed running dungeon groups scale back a bit on their aggressive strategies and adapt if things went sour. However, it was very disappointing to see how little these teams tried or were unprepared to adapt. As for the earlier suggestion to let players WP, I’m strongly against that rule. It is more exciting for me to see players panic when their teammates get downed and see the urgency in rezzing them.

All in all I think this event created a learning experience not only for the hosts but also for the competitors. If there is a second event, I hope that the rules stay consistent (although little changes are good) so that we can see how the players evolve.

I do agree with the comment that as soon as the winner is decided, we immediately move on.

- Some suggestions for the commentators.

I know that most of you are learning the role, and for your first time you guys did pretty awesome. However I’d like to see more structured conversations. One example: if Dek were to comment on a down player, and Nike wants to add something, Nike should acknowledge Dek’s comment and transition. This is optimal rather than having multiple commentators saying different things lacking cohesion. Those gem store recommendations were perfect haha.

Also, have fact sheets ready for dead air. Prepare what you want to highlight about each dungeon, each player, or even each class. You’re probably used to talking to other players with high understanding of dungeons and classes, but your audience will contain many that don’t. Some examples: What section of the dungeon might they do a split? Where in the dungeon could we see potential wipes? What is the specific mechanic of the next boss, and what skills/build should this guardian bring to make the encounter smoother, did that ele do a perfect might rotation, what is a perfect might rotation?

To further expand on this, tell the audience what to look for. We’ve seen boss fights a million times, but tell us about it anyway. When should the reflect go up, tell the audience to look closely for the aegis that should pop up, etc.

To sum up, I had a great time watching this event. Congrats to SC for some awesome runs, and congratz DnT for hosting such a successful event. I really hope to see more events like this in the future.
