WTT stealth for support skills (not lol poison share) and health…but lets face it. If we didn’t have stealth we would still be op cuz we gots a bow that does 200k damage per hit when firing into a zerg of 50 people standing still.
I’m not sure if this was brought up, but I log in from 2 different areas/2 different computers. both I told to remember as a safe IP way back when. I have 2 way authentication. But when I log in from 1 location, it doesn’t ask me to input the 6 numbers ever (which you’ve explained why), while the other location I have to input the 6 numbers only sometimes. I realize this is a beta, so I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this issue (entering 6 numbers every time I log in it no trouble at all, and I would be in favour of the suggested option to trust no IP :P Only reason selected to trust the IPs back with email authentication was because it was a pain to go to that email every time. Hitting a button on my phone is much easier :P
while in stealth you shouldn’t be able to prevent capping this would take care of mechanics exploits in W v W and sPVP specially supply camp cap prevention by a single player in stealth taking advantage of culling bug to perma stealth
While I agree with this (you shouldn’t be able to prevent capping while stealthed), make sure you know what you are talking about before posting, or you look like just one of the other thousands of qq threads. sPVP has already solved this. Preventing capping [bold]from stealth[/bold] only occurs (at least as far as I’ve observed, my main is a thief) in WvWvW.
As for the culling issue, it is known by the devs, I’m sure they are working on it, it’s probably not an easy fix, and bring it up in every qq thread probably just makes them ignore most of the thread.
I mean seriously, stealth is a means of escape not a freaking do it all ability even SWTOR as bad as it is understood this concept and you cannot cap or attack while in stealth the moment you do you come out of stealth.
Funny you should bring in SWTOR, as you COULD stealth cap for a very long while before they fixed it. You could also stealth through doors, preventing the other side from attacking you, or stealth plant bombs onto the doors. SWTOR is a horrible example to use in proper stealth mechanics. I played an IA, and yes, had great fun abusing this. Sometimes it was the only way to win vs another team that was exploiting some other way (there were many exploits….).
If they want to give the thief a perma stealth and remove our 3 sec stealth every few seconds, I would be up for that: ie make them like every other stealth class, let us wander around invisible without making us work for it, but then when we attack, we only have a few abilities to put us back into stealth, each of these abilities with a cd (say 30+ seconds). But then players would probably just complain about hordes of invisible players slipping past the zerg to ninja cap points…
BTW, we aren’t the only class that can do the above things in your post while “invisible” (or worse invulnerable).
There’s another thread going here.
Tl;dr: we’re aware of the issue, and should have a fix soon!
But my thread is older! Thx for the update though. I can also confirm that removing the authenticator lets you log in.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but after today’s patch (just before 2pm server) I can no longer log in with the authenticator (the android 2 way). Game crashes every time I try (still works with logging into forums though). I had to remove it to log in. A fix (or someone telling me what to do to fix it) would be greatly appreciated.
My guess he was traited heavy into defense, and those thieves are hard to kill. The upside to fighting them is they don’t hit hard at all, and their only real threat is leaving the stacks of bleed up for any amount of time.
The utility skill Caltrops has a CD, the weaker version we can trait into on dodge doesn’t have a CD.
Best way of killing this kind of thief is to out last him, or get someone else to help. This game wasn’t designed on 1v1 situations and you might have to deal with a stalemate if you meet him 1v1.
Edit: You could also change your traits to be a little less defensive, but I don’t think you would want to do that just for this 1 encounter possibility.
Seconded please.
Seeing all these posts asking for nerfs or making fun of thieve since they “know” a nerf is coming is disheartening. I never come to the thief forums to look for answers anymore. Now, I only come to the thief forums for a good laugh about the number of people posting the same thing in different topics, which is just sad.
lol these QQ posts arent even posting their stats and gear in the same screenie as the damage done to them.
So posting my SS of my glass cannon Mesmers damage taken log and another SS showing stats of my bunker Guardian aren’t proof enough for you that [class] needs a nerf?
Let me clarify that i recently played a Thief in sPvP …
…it was indeed very funny how they started to argue about how thieves can burst down so fast, yes they can, like they can be bursted down as well, but the mechanic of stealth its pretty much broken giving a “second chance” with a really low CD, making you untargetable along the way.
what i do propose its give stealth mechanic a draw back.
-You move half your speed while stealthed (for example)
- You are in-combat while stealthed (that means no regeneration, no skill switching, move speed in combat)you can be traced by condition damage, for example if you are bleeding you leave a blood trail.
To me, Stealth mechanic its pretty broken since there is no way to counter it
Inb4: “AoE damage” have luck in a 3D environment guessing in your 400 AoE range where the thieve is, while he is recharging initiative to try to burst you down yet again while your CDs are on.
I love how (almost) EVERYONE who complains vs a class starts off the post with “I played a [class], so I know what I’m talking about”.
I just wanted to clear a few things up. Untargetable =/= Unhitable. A lot of people (not necessarily you) don’t make that distinction. This can be helped by either calculated guesses or lucky shots, but in either case, they will only remain like this for a few seconds (unless they use all their utility/traits to increase their stealth uptime). I’ll also add “Blame rendering”, even though everyone seems to be saying this. It’s a flaw in the game atm, and hopefully it will be fixed soon. I’m also in favour of them preventing the CnD queue -> mug -> CnD hit -> BS combo which also seems to be causing most of the rage vs thieves on forums.
We are in combat while stealthed. Any health regen/move speed we get is from traits. This also means we cannot swap skills after stealthing.
If we were to move slower while in stealth (and I’m not entirely against this) they would need to increase the amount of time our average stealth skill lasts, as 3secs of stealth at 50% move speed would kind of defeat the purpose of going into stealth.
Condition trails are a neat idea, but with the number of conditions being tossed around, this game might start looking like a Quentin Tarantino film then a Guild Wars game.
Lastly, anyone who says stealth has no counters really needs to L2P (sorry).
Shoulders (any) disappear on the Medium CoF Chest piece too. Guess some shoulders just never show up with other pieces of gear equipped.
i smell QQ thread about dancing dagger incoming on next thread
any bets ?
Dancing daggers needs a nerf. Not only does it deal damage, but it cripples and bounces to other targets! IMO it should only be able to do 1 of these things, and/or it’s initiative cost should be raised to 10 initiative, minimum. It should also disable your other skills for a few seconds.
10/30/0/20/20
nuff said.
Interesting. I’m only able to use 70 trait points.
You must not be a very good Thief then…
My build that I run is 30 30 30 30 30. Works wonders.
0/10 troll post (hopefully).
Otherwise looking at his history and you’ll see all he does is play a class, and complain that it’s underpowered and broken and all other classes need to be nerfed .
His thoughts on Rangers.
His thoughts on Mesmers.
His thoughts on ‘out of ranged/obstructions’ and skill CDs.
His thoughts on Thiefs (this thread :P).
By the way, just repeating what was already said in this thread:
Stealth has a CD in place (if you attack something from stealth). It’s 3secs. If you are seeing a Thief go into and out of stealth while attacking and it ‘looks’ like hes popping in and out every second, this is a game rendering issue, which has been discussed in length. Hopefully ANET will fix this, but until then, just lay down massive AoE where you see the thief (or if you can maintain it, lay it down around you). Not much else you can do at the moment.
I also want to add that this isn’t just Thieves, run around in a zerg or go against a zerg, dozens of players will jump into and out of view depending on the size of the zerg and how much you move around. Again, this is the game not fully rendering all the players in sight.
Edit for quote:
Just put an end to the Blinking thiefs
i have never seen a mmorpg where a rogue/thief can re-stealth free will every half second and laugh at their enemies inbetween.
2-5 seconds for a re-stealth should do it.
time to fix this !
No Thief can restealth every 1/2 for free. They are either using a 30ish+ second utility CD (admittedly you can have all 3 utility skills stealth you…but most if not no Thief does this), or Cloak and Dagger (costs 5 initiative – down to 3 if talented, needs to hit a target in melee)

If you have any traits that give you buffs when you steal (initiative, and/or swiftness/fury/might, and/or stealth etc), when you gain the buffs , steal goes on full cooldown. If you have a target and it’s out of range, steal goes on its short cd, but you do not gain any buffs. If you have no target in range, you gain the buffs and steal goes on full cd.
So no, we can’t gain perma-swiftness through stealing.
Hi Karl,
The only problem with your “fix” (I don’t have a problem with fixing the issue with backstab that you were talking about) is with P/D, the stealth ability hits multiple times, and the ‘Revealed’ buff/debuff gets reset with every hit. So we end up waiting longer then the backstab builds do when trying to restealth.
Edit: Maybe if you applied ‘Revealed’ with the first hit that lands from Sneak Attack.
(edited by Topher.1684)
- Vitality Tree: Gain Swiftness When Roll.
(Change to Vigor, that way we get 1-2s of endurance regeneration, we really don’t need swiftness due to Signet of Shadows.)
That’s assuming you take SoS. While in dungeons I almost never take it and it’s nice to have another source of swiftness.
