Human ancestry question important?

Thank you Melfice and Ailwynn! It totally makes sense that it would affect the look of my ranger’s sister.

And at least in my mind, my GW2 ranger (as is his sister, obviously) is definitely of Ascalonian ancestry since he’s a direct descendant of my GW1 ranger.

Just curious: was that same question also a choice for humans during character creation (I don’t remember since it’s been so long since I’ve last created my ranger)?

Human ancestry question important?

Torvic.8256

Sometime during the Personal Story, Logan Thackeray asked about my male human ranger’s ancestry, whether it was (if I recall correctly) Krytan, Ascalonian, Canthan or Elonian. My character answered Ascalonian and then I don’t remember anything else developing from that conversation for the rest of the Personal Story.

Did I answer incorrectly? If I’d given a different answer (particularly if I’d chosen Krytan), would a substory have developed from that within the Personal Story? In short, did I miss something?

I played the game for 6 months before I realized I had a “house”.

Heck, I’ve been playing this game for a little over two years and only realized fairly recently that I have a home instance.

Does my character actually have a house within the home instance or is the whole instance considered his “house”?

I still need to play catch-up.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve only recently had time to start Living Story Season 2 and only finished The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1 last night, but so far I’m having a blast, both literally (in-game) and figuratively!

Thank goodness for the ability to log-in and save each of Season 2’s chapters for later consumption. In fact, it makes me sad that I couldn’t do that with Season 1, as I unfortunately didn’t have the time to play all of its chapters in the time prescribed and now will never be able to fully experience first-hand the epic battles against Scarlet Briar.

Speaking of Scarlet: judging by her holographic recordings at her old place at Dry Top, she seemed to be a sweet and bubbly person prior to peering into the “Eternal Alchemy” and going somewhat insane, which makes her transformation from the former to the latter even more tragic.

Also, there was a point in the Personal Story when Logan Thackeray asked my male human ranger where his ancestors were from and he answered Ascalon (if I recall correctly, the other choices were Kryta, Cantha and Elona).* Does that mean that in The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1, my ranger was basically killing the ghosts of his ancestors, particularly to (ironically) help the Charr?

.
.
.

*In fact, my GW2 male human ranger is the great-great-etc. grandson of my GW1 male human ranger, even having the same last name, but I’m not sure that Logan would’ve known that despite his ancestor Gwen knowing my GW1 ranger.

I’ve never really been an alt-oholic in any game but have strongly considered creating my first alt in this game for a different Personal Story experience (my only GW2 character thus far is a male human ranger with whom I’ve only recently completed the Personal Story with).

Would it still be worth it to try an alt or has the NPE pretty much ruined the experience?

[Suggestion] Race Transformation Tonics

Torvic.8256

Quaggans have animations where they hold weapons and do attacks, both on land and water. It shouldn’t be any trouble replacing one weapon with another or one animation with another. As to armor, they won’t be wearing your armor just like the Watchknight tonic transformation doesn’t wear your armor.

If anyone one form is unsuitable for combat then obviously it wouldn’t be made. The set of Guild Wars 1 transformation tonics had some that weren’t combat useable because of animation problems.

Thank you for the info.

That’s good news about the Quaggan weapon-wielding and while it’s understandable why there’d be no animation of Quaggan wearing armor, it still would’ve been nice seeing one in full Quaggan-shaped leather or plate mail.

I find a game’s official forums to be quite relevant and uncannily accurate when it comes to determining what sort of game is actually lurking behind the hype.

It used to be that way for me, but I’ve found the complete opposite to be true the last few years, particularly in the disproportionately negative (in both amount and vitriol) posts and threads. And not just with this game, but just about every game’s forums.

Torvic.8256

Could such a tonic even turn you into a Quaggan or can it only turn you into one of the currently playable races?

I would think that any combat useable tonic would need to be something that can do combat animations. The tonic would need to be able to both equip your weapons and do things like dodge or swim. The dodge part might rule out something like a Centaur tonic. As long as a Quaggan can equip weapons and do the animations I would assume a Quaggan tonic could be combat useable,

Do animations of Quaggans wielding greatswords or warhorns or what have you (as well as perhaps wearing leather armor or plate mail armor) already exist or would those have to be newly created?

I feel the same way OP (though I haven’t tried Destiny). I have tried ESO, Wildstar, FFXIV, and Archeage (though briefly).

I’ve tried Destiny and so far it’s… okay. I suppose my big mistake regarding that game is that I’ve always sucked at playing FPS’s with a controller (I can only really play them well with a keyboard & mouse), yet I bought Destiny for the PS4 anyway. My opinion of the game may have been higher if it had come out on PC.

As for the other games on your list: TESO is actually really good. I haven’t played the other games there I so I can’t say one way or the other about them.

As for the OP: I completely agree! Two years in and I’m still enjoying GW2 immensely.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Torvic.8256

At least throughout the Guild Wars series, you could (and still can) play any combination of class and race that you want.

I’ve always liked playing as a male human ranger in just about every fantasy-based game I’ve ever played, yet until WoW’s Cataclysm expansion six years into the game’s existence, humans weren’t allowed to be hunters (WoW’s equivalent of rangers).

I could be misunderstanding you, but in GW1 you could only play human as a race. No other options.

Oops, you’re right. It’s been such a long time since I’ve played GW1 that I’d forgotten about that.

Nonetheless, my main point there was in the second paragraph.

It also just occurred to me that the way Season 2 episodes here can be played whenever you’re ready rather than having to be completed in a limited time frame reminds me of Star Trek Online, whose campaigns are broken down into episodes and seasons (not surprising for an MMO based on a TV show. ).

The campaigns’ episodes there are always available for you until you complete them and new seasons have later been added without sacrificing the earlier ones, so even those just starting to play can experience the whole story

Talk about being late to the party!

Despite having bought GW2 in November 2012, I’ve only recently finished the Personal Story (whereas you all probably finished it two years ago). It was a pretty cool and sometimes poignant journey from my middle-class male human ranger (as his great-great-great-etc. grandfather was 250 years earlier in GW1) defending the Village of Shaemoor from centaurs to killing the Elder Undead Dragon Zhaitan above the skies of Orr as the Commander of the Pact.

What was especially heartening was how festive the celebratory ending of the campaign was, definitely making the whole journey worth it! This was in stark contrast to the original ending of the Prophecies campaign, which quite frankly was pretty subdued and even somewhat melancholy. Though I heard that Anet later revamped Prophecies’ ending to be more joyous and celebratory, I never got around to checking it out, and I never got around to see the endings of Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North, so I don’t know if they were joyous and celebratory as well.

On the flip side, I didn’t have time to fully partake in Living Story Season 1 and thus will never again have the chance to experience the mysterious beginnings of that season and then facing off against Scarlet Briar time and again, finally to defeat her for good above the skies of Lion’s Arch. Sure I can watch YouTube videos of others doing all that, but it’s just not the same as actually experiencing it for myself the first time around, especially with my ranger as the hero.

When my ranger returned to Fort Trinity after helping to kill Zhaitan, I could fully appreciate the celebrations there and all around Tyria since he went through all of the preceding struggles to get there. Conversely, I felt a bit out of place when my ranger visited the tavern post-Scarlet, since he hardly knew anyone there (despite the dialogue trees) yet they all seemed to know him and it hardly felt that he did anything to reach that point. I now wish more than ever that I had the time to play the entire Season 1 content, but alas…

That makes me all the more grateful that Anet has allowed all the chapters for Living Story Season 2 to be saved for later consumption, particularly now that I’ve finished the Personal Story and I’m now ready for the first episode even though the seventh episode has already been released. It’ll still feel pretty weird, though, like watching Star Wars: A New Hope and then skipping to Return of the Jedi without watching The Empire Strikes Back in between.

Sorry for the long post and thank you for indulging me.

“That makes me all the more grateful that Anet has allowed all the chapters for Living Story Season 2 to be saved for later consumption”
Don’t forget to thank all the people lobbying for that here in the forums (and on YouTube) as that is what it took to get Anet to change that.

Hey and congrats on finishing the PS!

Thank you.

If it’s any consolation Anet have said they’d like to find a way to make S1 replayable. It’ll likely take a while to be implemented if at all, but it’s something.

That’d be cool, though hopefully it won’t be too far down the road.

Re: Trahearne, my impression is that a lot of people feel he takes all the credit/spotlight from your actions and basically gets to be the hero in their place. It’s not a feeling I got and personally I’m very fond of him, in a “oh my god Trahearne you’re a disaster stop making speeches” kind of way. To each their own :P

:)

Trahearne certainly gave us enough chances to decide how to proceed. Besides, him being the Marshal of the Pact also likely meant that he had to stay at Fort Trinity to run the Pact, freeing you up to continue adventuring as you pleased.

As a GW1 fan I think you will enjoy the lore and connections with GW1 in the latter parts of LSS2. I hope they find a way to add LSS1 to the journal.

You should go back and finish Factions and Nightfall and Eye of the North and watch the celebrations! There are some sites and videos out there that have documented LSS1 as well as the endings of the GW1 chapters, youtube has all of them I would imagine.

Thank you CMM.

I’ll try to go back to the Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North and complete them (heck, I’ll even try to complete the final mission in Prophecies to see the revamped ending), though it may be a while since time is somewhat limited right now.

I suppose I have no choice but to watch the YouTube of the GW1 endings and the LSS1 chapters, though it won’t be the same as actually having experienced them firsthand.

Nonetheless, I’m happy that I completed the Personal Story. Still, it was sad seeing Gwen’s grave in Ebonhawke , especially considering having seen her playfully following my GW2 ranger’s great-great-great-etc. grandfather around in pre-Searing Ascalon in GW1.

Even after having completed the Personal Story, though, I’m still wondering why a lot of people here seem to hate Trahearne. Though I didn’t read much of their posts at the time so as not to spoil the story, I figured it was because he would somehow betray the Pact sometime down the line, which thankfully didn’t end up happening.
