Where are the Lions?
In Detroit.
Doesn’t Lyasa at Fort Salma sing about chickens?
“Chickens peck and chickens munch,
Chickens cluck and chickens crunch,
Chickens flap and chickens croon,
Chickens on the table soon!”Her cheerfulness while singing that song amusingly contrasts to the nearby moaning of doom and gloom by the adult Quaggan refugees currently staying at Fort Salma.
I love that girl! I always stop and listen to her. One of my favorite npcs, such a catchy little tune. And you’re right she’s just so kitten happy about killing those chickens with war going on all around her lol. Cracks me up every time.
She does seem to hang out in an interesting part of the fort as both Nellie and Caden are close by as well.

Especially interesting would be how the Dwarves would react to, and how they’d be met by, the GW2 races that they likely have never met before such as the Quaggan and the Skritt.
I like the idea of the Dwarves returning as a playable race, even if it’s only underground, as well as getting Primordus into the mix.
I also like the idea of adding the Tengu and Largo as playable races as well (heck, I’d love to play as a Quaggan Ranger, though I wonder what his pet would be ).
Weird thing is, I only saw that thread after I started this one.
Yeah it was hidden 4 threads down.
So anyway, would the Dwarves be welcomed back and how well would they integrate back into the world?
Weird thing is, I only saw that thread after I started this one.
Though admittedly, I do think that the recent The Hobbit movie is what made me remember again that the Dwarves were a large part of GW1 and then begin wondering about their possible return to GW2.
… to the surface of Tyria, would they be welcomed back by both the playable and non-playable races or would they instead be scorned by them? How well would the Dwarves integrate back onto the surface world after a 250-year absence?
Furthermore, would the Dwarves then become a playable race?
I completely agree that Guild Wars 2 is a game that leaves (and is still leaving) good memories.
The Secret World is another such game, albeit in more subtle, spookier ways.
William Shatner, Brian Blessed and Gilbert Gottfried.
Killing people appeals to me
In real life or in the game?
Will those two YouTube political ads be aired on Tyrian television?
Obviously one of them will get nominated for the Togo peace prize and we can have a ball. Change!
Heck, I’d settle for if either of them can get a Togo’s opened in Lion’s Arch.
Beats drinkin’ though, lol.
Mountain Dew?
I also recently purchased The Secret World and downloaded Star Trek Online but haven’t had the time to get into them yet.
As well as Marvel Heroes.
Vaxx, you absolutely did the right thing by playing GW2 for a bit first before visiting these forums!
That way, you were able to form and solidify your own opinion (good and/or bad) about the game rather having it molded for you (whether consciously or, more likely, subconsciously) by the aforementioned doomsayers here before ever setting foot onto the world of Tyria.

GW2 is definitely the best MMO I’ve ever played as well (and I’ve tried out a lot of MMO’s over the years)!
The two MMO’s I’ve really been digging lately are GW2 and DC Universe Online. I also recently purchased The Secret World and downloaded Star Trek Online but haven’t had the time to get into them yet.
The past MMO that I miss is Earth & Beyond, which was shut down almost a decade ago after running for two years., while the MMO that I was looking forward to the most but was canceled a little over a decade ago before it ever hit stores was the pulp adventure-themed Lost Continents.
It’s much like the episode on Happy Days when Mr. Cunningham bought a color filter card to place on his black and white television in hopes of making it look like his TV was a color unit. FXAA does the same thing.
Yet more proof that I’m old: not only do I know exactly what you’re referring to, but I actually saw that episode when it was first broadcast.
Conversely, all the young folk here likely have absolutely no idea what you’re referring to.
I’m old.
Well, now I’m afraid to log in. What if I log in and all the plants start screaming? >.>
What if the screaming also replaced the Character Selection Screen’s music?
when your hate a race its too hard to give up that hate. i always felt given half a chance she still would have knife pyre in the back if it wasnt for your char. i dont think she would be any different today. she would quickly go back into her hated for the charr. she had too much personal experience hating char something that will never leave her. separatist all the way for her
Would the Separatists have been more successful in GW2 had Gwen been leading them?
I’m somewhere in the middle of this latest Dragon Bash Living Story entry so I can’t speak for its entirety quite yet, but so far I’m having an absolute BLAST with it (particularly with the murder-mystery aspect)!
I don’t want to be a tree.
How come?
and as i said, she would be just shocked
besides his great grandson pretend to be in love with a queen while he is in love with a charr, everyone knows that…
edit: i think also the blaming a race because their ancestors from 250 years ago were “terrorist” isn’t a rational thought, not that i expect gwen to be rational since no npc seems to be anyway)
250 years is a long time.
There was no USA 250 years ago. That’s 1763 AD.
France Ceded Canada to the British Empire in 1763.
Prussia and Austria ended a 7 year war.
The British East India Company deposed the ruler of Bengal.
The British win a war against the Chippewas in what is now Michigan.
A year long slave uprising begins in the dutch colony of Berbice (Guyana). The British declare an end to westward expansion in North America signing permanent treaties with several Native American nations (colonial resistance to this treaty is why the British later moved troops away from the border and stationed them inside the homes of people in NY and Boston).
Paxton Boys murder local Indians in their homes, in Lancaster, and then break into a jail where survivors were being sheltered to kill them as well – in response to the results of the war between the British and French.
- A whole different sort of world than today.
Nobody alive in ’today’s’ GW2 is even the great grandchild of a person from the GW1 era. Our current toons are as removed from those characters as we in the real world are from Thomas Jefferson, King George, George Washington, et all. Napoleon wasn’t even alive yet.
Imagine if Thomas Jefferson popped up today, and walked over to the White House… given what we know of his personal life…
- It could go any number of ways, but he would probably say a whole mess of stupid before he got sorted out.
Great points!
Speaking of which, is there now a weird feeling playing GW1 knowing what Tyria will be like 250 years later regardless of what the player does?
Very enjoyable posts indeed.
I don’t think Gwen would ever forgive the Charr given her personal experiences, but I think she’s wise enough to see that continuing the war would be bad for everyone involved.
That’s pretty much my thought as well. Our image of Gwen is coloured somewhat through most of our experiences with her being while she rages against the charr – she did, however, mellow a bit towards the end.
Another consideration is that the modern charr are very different to the charr Gwen knew. Gwen’s hatred of the charr was not unfounded prejudice – it was developed through hard experience of several years of captivity followed by acts she regarded as barbaric that were taken even by those charr she regarded as allies. The Iron Legion, however, certainly does not fit the description of “animals, savage animals” – it’s possible that a hypothetical ghost Gwen would recognise this and, while not happy about Ascalon being inhabited by charr now, rightfully regard the Flame Legion as being her true enemy.
Either way, I think she’d be proud that Ebonhawke managed to stymie the charr for two and a half centuries and eventually force them to come to the negotiation table – something that the charr regarded as unthinkable in Gwen’s lifetime.
Would/could ghost Gwen’s hatred of the Charr be reignited if she encountered and spoke with GW2’s Ascalonian ghosts (or with any other ghost, for that matter), though?
Ooooh, I love this idea! I’m sure lots of those ghosts have some grim stories of how their family was slaughtered and how their homes were destroyed by the Charr. Considering Gwen hasn’t been around for the changes the Charr have made or the fragile peace talks, it would be very difficult to turn her back on her ancestor’s ghosts and not want some kind of retribution I think.
Not to mention what would happen if ghost Gwen also encountered the Charr ghosts who had died at around the same time.

Just imagine if the first thing Gwen saw in GW2 (either as a ghost or somehow transported through time from GW1) was her own grave and surrounding memorials in Ebonhawke.
Or perhaps a Living Story entry that eventually has Logan Thackery speaking to the ghost of Gwen much like how Gwen spoke to the ghost of her mother in Guild Wars: Eye of the North.
The ability to simply click on an area and have your character run over there (as well as keeping the current modes of movement control, of course).

I just remembered that flute music can briefly be heard as Gwen’s grave is approached. No doubt the flute she played as a little girl pre-Searing Ascalon.
Sweet abyss dye
As opposed to sour abyss dye?
(And I mean in-game, not whether she’d think the game still has some bugs the devs need to fix or whether the professions are nerfed or whatever)
Besides the sadness and melancholy felt every time my main visits Gwen’s grave in the Stronghold of Ebonhawke (his great-great-great-great… or however many “greats” there’d be in a 250-year timespan… grandfather met little Gwen in pre-Searing Ascalon, and later an emotionally-scarred Gwen some years later, after all) , I’ve wondered what Gwen would think and feel of the world as it is in the “present time” of GW2.
What do you all think?
I like it when you call me Big Karka!!
That’s what she said.
Is it longer days closer to the equator and shorter days closer to the poles?
All the players in game…..
Did the painter visit Tyria at some point?
Crabtacular??
Crabtastic??
I fall in the “awesome” group. Other than that, I’m a:
I’m a PvE Completionist. I’ve got no interest in PvP or Crafting, but I will – and must – hit every mission, every Dynamic Event, every jumping puzzle, every mini dungeon, everything … One of the great things about GW2 is that you don’t outlevel your quests like you do in other games … so I won’t suddenly find out I’m way too high level for early quest X to get any xp or loot out of it.
But I’m also a Casual Completionist, so while I gotta hit everything, I don’t have to hit it right now, this instant. I like to take my time and really enjoy the sights, NPCs, searches, etc.
This basically describes me as a GW2 player in a nutshell, though I’m sure I’ll eventually try some crafting at some point and I’ll sometimes PvP (or WvWvW, or whatever it’s called) if a friend and/or guildmate invites me.
The Ranger’s Seeker Armor is actually quite nice and really does seem to fit that profession well.
Absolutely! Hear hear!
Not so good for clothies, however.
Are clothies in-game characters who prefer to wear town clothes?
I miss something that, ironically enough, was in GW1: the ability to simply click on an area and have your character run over there (as well as keeping the current modes of movement control as well, of course).
this is actually the first mmo I’ve played that doesn’t have that
I remember when I started playing WoW for a bit (shortly after I started playing GW1), WoW didn’t have that feature. When WoW eventually added it later on, I specifically thought of GW1’s influence.
Conversely, something I’d hoped that GW1 (and now GW2, for that matter) would use from WoW is the onscreen real-life clock in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. That way, I wouldn’t need to constantly look away from the screen to see what time it is in real-life.
You know you can enable a real world clock in your mini map?
Go to settings and poke about abit.
Thank you for the info.
Among other things, the onscreen real world clock will make it easier for me (as it has in other games) to know when it’s time to wind things down when it’s getting late.

You can change the server time clock in the lower right hand corner on the minimap to be real-life time. Changed my life
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I just implemented it (it was previously set to off)… how did I ever miss that the option was available?
Interestingly, “Local Time” and “Server Time” seem to be the same for me. Are the GW2 servers on the U.S. West Coast?
While I do love that I can keep the look that I want I do wish we could have a option to transmute the stones into crystals. I only play one character and currently have a small stockpile forming of the stones which I’ve got no use for. Even a 25 stone – to 1 crystal I’d welcome as I’ve got no use for them and no plans on playing any of my alts I made for quite awhile.
I’m sort of in the same boat, though I’ve recently learned that keeping extra stones on hand is oftentimes handy.

Just wanted to express my appreciation at being able to keep the look of a certain set of armor, weapons or what have you indefinitely while still being able to level them up as the game goes on. It may seem not seem like a big deal, but it’s a really nice feature, particularly when some higher-level stuff just don’t look as good (though admittedly, my character is currently only in the level 40’s range, so I can’t yet speak to how the very high-level items look like)!
Are there others here who also very much appreciate having Transmutation Stones (or in broader terms, this type of feature in general)? Is this a common feature among MMO’s nowadays or is GW2 still one of the few that has it?
Nobody stops you from taking it off first.
In real life or in-game?
How about someone with no class?
I had that thing a couple of times. Looked like a bunch of green balloons. It did not last long and I didn’t notice it causing damage.
In real life or in the game (or both?)?
