If you find that Windows 10 boots up slower than Windows 7 the most likely cause is your AV software.
One of the major reasons for moving to Windows 10 is the increased security features – it was the lack of these features that caused Windows 7 to boot up slowly in the first place. Some AV vendors will be ignoring the new features – as they are pretty much MS controlled – and causing slower boots up as a result.
I doubt if any OEM vendors are specifically developing drivers for Window 7; it’s days are numbered, two years if I recall correctly.
I was talking about GW2 load speed, not OS load speed. Seemed to load faster on 7/8 and definitely loads way faster on WineGW2. Framerate dips a lot on 10 and is probably related to the aforementioned DPC latency issue.
I don’t use antivirus. noscript, hardware firewall, and a sandbox is all I need.
Windows 10 is pretty bad.
The core is about the same as 7/8 for the most part, the ui is a little improved over 8, however load times seemed longer for me and many people get some stutters with it, at which this point I’d attribute to old BIOSes for old motherboards. (I get bad dpc latency spikes = audio dropouts, video stutters, and gigabyte refuses to support my mobo since 4 weeks after it came out – back in 2011)
10 will constantly spy on you, and harass you to update – even after running one of those privacy tools and attempting to disable forced updates. Not to mention some of the updates have ruined peoples installs.
This drive me to Linux. GW2 runs okay with the portable WineGW2 fork (if a bit buggy).
Mint is recommended for (very) old PCs – its basically like Windows except the automatic updates actually update everything on your pc. Installs faster, sets up faster, etc.
Antergos/Arch for newer PCs/more experienced users. Once set up it’s much nicer, cleaner, and up to date than Mint/*buntu distros. But it takes longer and is quite a bit more difficult.
I’m using a sandy bridge motherboard on both pcs. Our latest chipset drivers (chipset inf) are for Windows 7 and they also don’t NEED to be installed – have never noticed any diff with or without them.
I don’t install IRST. It is not needed. I also don’t really think that’s the issue.
Besides, Intel’s update utility doesn’t say there are any updates.

The short-term framerate drops seem to be a windows 10 thing. Never happened before I upgraded. I’m using an amd 7850.
My guess: Background windows process thrashing the hdd, or something maxing all cpu threads out. I use an ssd and still notice it.
Damage is ridiculous overall in pvp/wvw right now, but especially on guard’s burn which executes too fast for 9k ticks. Even if I dodge most of the big damage skills and the primary burn skill its too much.
New condi meta has made tankiness feel entirely useless. Even maximizing available condi clear doesn’t seem to help all too much.
My amd desktop has occasional crashes (high settings) ever since installing GW2 back on Win 7 and nvidia desktop has 0 crashes (low settings). Both use 10 now.
Windows 10 isn’t the issue, it might be the driver version you’re using or the card you have specifically has buggy drivers on 10.
Use Treexy’s driver cleaner, try different driver versions (including beta), etc.
I’ve noticed Intel is generally the culprit in my laptop driver issues – and I’d start there if you have switchable graphics.
You can also check the event viewer to see if there’s any windows error message, might be a missing VC/dx dll or something?
Edit: There is also a repair option for the gw2 launcher – google it, don’t have the link handy. I’ve had the game corrupt before and that was the only way to get it to start.
It is honestly absurd that you haven’t already. People die. People quit. Nearly every AAA mmo wiped names after a year or two from totally-inactives. NCSoft actually does this and they are your publisher…
Give them a month or two advance email notice. If they still fail to log, wipe their names.
I’ve been tracking 50 people who I want to buy names from, and none of them log in. The (very) few who actually logged in once or twice would not take any amount of gold to release the names.
It also goes without saying that permbanned accs (hacking, etc) should have their names lost.
It’s a heinous crime that they charge more in UK/EU.
Another thing that’s done because they can get away with it. That’s why you should wait and buy from a 3rd party after it releases… like my uk friend did.

This is not about money, this is mainly about value. There is a difference.
If you have grown up in a very consumer heavy society like North America, throwing money at over-prized stuff is part of your daily life. The value of a product is secondary as long as it is the up-to-date “thing”.
In other societies the value of a product consists of both, the cost and the degree of satisfaction in regards of expectations. $50 here is a dinner for two, $100 if you want something better than pizza. Even though you could say that is fairly expensive, together with the experience I see enough value to pay for the experience.
I don’t care about the prize tag, as long as I see the proper value in the product.
Which right now I see not in GW2:HoT, and neither does my wife. Two less buyers of the expansion for now.
Value is subjective. Fifty dollars is nothing to an adult. For example…A man with a wife and three kids wants a burger for dinner. He ends up paying about $50 to eat his burger. If he wants an ice cream cone it will cost him around 10-15 dollars. Fifty dollars is nothing.
If food cost that much here I’d have killed myself years and years ago.
People just don’t make that much money. Most jobs here are $7-9 an hour, with the odd 3rd shift manufacturing job paying 15 an hour. Under 10 an hour = probably no buying games, electronics, etc. Unless you work 2 jobs for much more than 40 hours a week.
Yet. As you have purchased something without actually knowing the full content, which may disappoint you so much you quit playing it after a week or a month.
It’s good to see 10+ players jumping in and throwing money at Anet, compared to the many many posts saying ‘no thanks’, will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Seeing a couple hundred posts clearly shows that only a minority of the playerbase is unhappy compared to probably the thousands of players who have already purchased the expansion and stayed quiet about while continuing to play the game.
That’s not actually true. A lot may agree but simply don’t care to post because they’ve been conditioned not to complain and be positive, like that people in this thread.
Such people are why the world is in such a pitiful state. You gotta fight the good fight tooth and nail, but nobody except the minority will do it.
why SHOULD it include a character slot? I’ve played multiple MMOs with lots of new expansions and having a new character slot is not the default at all.
It’s simple really. Expansion comes with a new Class, after 3 years. That’s why.
Yeaqh except some people don’t want to play it, and others need a character slot. For how much we’re getting screwed on the price, the slot should at least come with it or the price should be $15-20 lower. This is honestly one of the dumbest decision I’ve seen in marketing and they’ve seen how much outrage there is and ignore it.
I just hope people have the sense to boycott it…but looking how poorly people vote with their wallets due to ignorance or lack of alternatives irl lel probably not. AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner, Apple, Android, Paypal, Ebay, Verizon, and many other evils would be dead if the world worked like that.

+votes to the voices of reason in here. $50 for an expansion is too much. Anet also doesn’t realize vets who quit the game and showed some interest in HoT will not return after they see the price tag – they were betrayed or disappointed once, after all.

In other games, blocking people kept them out of your party. I don’t see the big deal.
As long as it doesn’t affect pvp queue, everyone wins, nobody loses, except maybe anet for having to assign devs to it. As you said there could always be a toggle or seperate block list.
I personally only block people (that aren’t gold bot spammers) for one reason: I don’t want them in my groups…ever. I don’t block people because I don’t want to see their chat. It’s easy to ignore it.
It should be a priority because of the way the lfg system works. If you have to relist your party serveral times you need to find a friend to create the LFG for you because it will supress your message and list the group as blank. This is exactly what such a troll wants.

I have had to repeatedly kick 500 ap level 3 trolls who have 0 AR from scale 50 fractals where you need to be level 80 with 70AR, I have had trolls repeatedly join my LFG party just to remove it because they don’t want me to recruit defenders.
Block currently hides blocked players LFGs from YOU but does not keep them out of YOUR party. That’s not how kitten is supposed to work. People block each other for a reason and you guys dont ban people that get reported, so you need to just fix the block function to keep trolls out of your LFGs, and then everyone wins.

Today 4 or 5 brave souls made Elaina ragequit off of OG with a paltry amount of supply and insufficient time to build up, Gotta love that treb supply drain.

My favorite part is that some of these babysitter guilds call themselves “bag hunters” and boast about “bag hunting in EOTM”. You’ll never see them running without the karma train, and if you wipe them (and their ktrain) they’ll ragequit. If you find them running solo it’s usually a free bag in a 1v1 situation.
You basically just described the Hammer Kult guild (minus Darth, who’s actually good). lol
With the frequency I see them cross the ENTIRE map exactly the right time skipping all objectives to kill 6 fr at their own keep door, it’s pretty evident they are using a spy on another account.
And of course, HK always leave the map after they get wiped more than once.

It has been a long time since then, before he tried to improve the guild image, but I’m pretty sure Elaina was one of the people raging about the defenders and guilds back in the day.
You know there’s something up with the leadership when GMissions are being done in an inefficient and bossy manner that no one is allowed to give improvement feedback on, and he would rather kick everyone’s favorite commanders and cause more to leave with them.
As to the report threats: that was probably a troll or a few members, you can’t assume an entire guild is doing the same things. Besides spam reports don’t even do anything unless you’re spamming inappropriate name reports (/facepalm).

Minus lots of respect for that comment. If you were there for what I was kicked for you’d realize I don’t even care. I 99% would have left to ruin (what’s left of) his trains anyways, especially since he was hiding why he kicked Lord to stop more people from leaving rather than “privacy reasons”.
Elaina is a bad, ragey leader and legit had no reason to kick all his commanders. He kicked me for voicing my opinion before I had made up my mind to leave (hadn’t said anything bad mind you).
When you siege troll, tag troll, defend, bring in your guild zergs, etc, most people in that guild will rage, and rage hard, then leave the map.
As someone who commonly commands for [eotm] and their 3 ways i can honestly say defenders make it fun and let us test how good of a commander we are. We do ktrains to help people get levels and karma but it can get boring running around with no defenders for 4 hours. Lots of commander enjoy seeing a defender and I know I do I guess I’ll see you out there :P
Have fun commanding “3 ways” when your leader who loves 3.5 hour slow guild missions kicked or caused all the best/loved commanders in EotM to leave for no good reasons.
I keep relisting my fractals in the dead of morning when nobody does fractals and suddenly my lfg titles are being auto supressed for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.
Fix it, this is absolutely shameful. There is literally no excuse, this crap hurts real players far more than it hurts any “bots”.
If you do, add me to friends and taxi me into [EotM] (Venturers of the Mists) run maps. I’ll make sure they have plenty of siege/siege trolls giving them some opposition.

Sword is awful due to the animation and greatsword is a crappy weapon meant for defensive/utility in pvp/wvw..
As a ranger main who wants to love the class, I hope HoT makes rangers useful in pve. Both my thief and ele have more utility and damage at current and it’s more something I play cause tired of ele or whatever.

I play every day. And tonight I logged in, tried to WvW and it was horrible. So I came back to the forums, found how to turn the sepia off and kill the annoying idiotic, drunk/stoned sounds my toon was making and tried battling again… but it was still bull-kitten. As someone who offers to buy short un-accented names for 1000g, I think this is terrible.. and as gold inflates it’ll get even worse.
…though I guess Precursors work as a replacement for gold. Except I can’t send someone half a precursor before they delete and half after I take. -.-

PS:: Please purge names from inactive accounts that haven’t logged in at all in like 8-12 months. Some other AAA mmos have done this as well. It’s excruciatingly hard to find even a bad name to take, and the only good ones that aren’t taken are filtered by your dumb system (anything containing ‘hash’ or ‘bite’, religious names, and I’m sure there is much more.)
