You can sword#2(1) —>Lightning reflexes, turn —> sword#2(2). You have enough time and puts you further out while evading.

Leading with Lightning Reflexes usually has them running immediately, and you’re vulnerable on 2 for a split second after LR which is why i like to weave it in the middle.

You also must deselect your target or you will go back to them with sword #2 or GS#3.

It also helps to have Autotargeting de-selected in options.

I’ve been sPvPing with a fairly resilient zerker build. If you go 0/20/30/20/0 with the sigil of blood for 30% chance on crit to heal. (you’ll be at 45% crit, 65% on swap).

I use dogs for the knockdowns and Fear/Immobilize and they get all my buffs which help with damage and survivability.

It would be amazing if the might stacks were applied to both Ranger and Pet. If Ranger + Pet DPS is supposed to be comparable to other classes’ DPS, how is stacking Might on one part of the DPS a good thing? It’s still worse than any other class stacking Might since that directly effects their entire damage output instead of only 10-30% of it, depending on the Pet.

But that’s a problem with Ranger being designed to not work together with the Pet and not the Trait I guess.

Fortifying Bond: “Any boon you get is shared with your pet.”

The 15 pt trait in Nature would be nice if it worked both ways.

My worry is about ever catching anyone again with the range nerf on Shortbow.

Now the only way will be with an offhand axe #4 if it’s traited to 1200 with Offhand Training. Might be a nifty new pull for runners, but not worth giving up the other traits we all usually take (regen or stealth on stun)

Ok found the actual bug.

The signets work, if they are showing in the UI.

For some reason the sigils can get disabled. You can re-enable by selecting a new signet and then going back to the first and you’ll see the sigil in the UI for you again.

The Ranger’s Signet of Renewal is not passively removing conditions every 10 seconds (or ever).

I noticed this while dueling a thief using shortbow poison volley, and then asked that thief to help me test.

We tested this by using poison volley to load me up with poison. Got over a minute of poison applied and then waited. The poison ran it’s full course without ever being removed.

I think this may be going un-noticed by many Rangers because of other passive removal being used in most builds. (eg. Empathic Bond).

If anyone else could test this out and confirm that would be awesome.

I’d like to see an ability to de-stealth players given to another class.

Perhaps Ranger could do it with a new Elite option. As an Elite it wouldn’t be overpowered as it would have a high cooldown and force a choice over the other Elites.

As a double bow ranger doing pve, his goal should be to stay at range and away from damage. Play him like a protected quarterback in the pocket.

This makes the extra damage boosts for being healthy, having full endurance and flanking all very good choices in my opinion.

I don’t have 10, but how about

Marksmanship

  • Signet of the Beastmaster has been removed. Active signet effects will now affect rangers and their pet by default.
  • NEW Read the Wind – Increases the projectile speed of all arrows by 50%.

I like this, but I think the Read the Wind at 50% would be too much; perhaps 20%, but they should also buff longbow auto attack speed by 15% in the patch.

im not going to tell you to l2p or anything like that, you’re obviously trying to learn how to play in each setting, but those problems do have solutions.

As for 8v8ing, you just need to learn how to avoid the zerg by understanding where it is. I can go through 5 8v8 hotjoin games without ever fighting more than one or two people at a time. of course, my glory gain rate is lower as a result, so I actively participate in the larger fights and etc. also, you need to keep in mind that hotjoin is not very nonburst glass build friendly. and clothies need extra toughness or experience/skill to stay alive. unless you’re bunker ele’ing and know how to keep your buffs rolling, you’re going to take a ton of damage, very quickly, from a lot of classes.

As for the 5v5’s…. i dunno if i want to 5v5 i just free tourny.

As for the free tourny’ing, you need to pvp more (spend more time pvp’ing) and meet the people that will be your team or possibly give/accept invites to tpvp parties. of course, its possible that they will ask you sooner rather than later, but you need a certain level of skill in order to pique their interest – without it you’ll simply be another one of the masses.

And lastly, be polite to the people you meet. if someone trash talks you or your build, just ignore it if you’re going to respond with something rude. There’s nothing more annoying than two subpar players complaining in /map about how bad the other is and how easy/cheese the others build is. as long as you’re likeable/polite, they won’t have a reason to not be interested in you – in other words you won’t end up on a potential future teammates block list because you blew your top at a computer game and inconvenienced/annoyed everyone else around you in the process.

Good luck though, I hope you stick with it.

This is what i love about Rift. They have a Public test server to test this stuff out with anyone.

It’s a very common practice in the mmo industry and very beneficial to the players and company as a whole why ANet doesn’t choose to do this is a mystery.

Because if they did, they would have to reveal the patch notes early. It’s VERY clear they don’t want to do that.

A.) Deliver on some promises made (specifically to the poor Rangers, good lord I feel bad for them).

B.) Explain why these “promises” are not possible / not feasible

C.) Communicate with the community more and actually attempt to implement some of their suggestions. Major class overhaul is silly of course, but minor things like: Elementalists have been saying for a LONG time that build diversity is extremely low due to being forced to trait into Arcana. an easy solution would be a small global CD reduction on Attunement swaps (only a few seconds could shave off 10 points that could go into another tree).

What I and many others would love to see is MUCH more communication with the community. We are here and listening, and a lot of us live from red post to red post hoping things improve for the PvP aspect of this game. Not because we hate it, but because we want to see it succeed.

Partially quoted to stress the communication improvements needed between Arena Net and the PvP community.

A better partnership would help immensely.

I imagine that it’s hard for a free to play game to have more than 2 developers.

The lack of money coming into them is probaly the reason they worked on payed tournaments first and new PvE content that provide them with a small amount of income.

If they don’t make money, they can’t hire more people.

Here are a couple things not covered by posters above:

1. Knockdowns/knockbacks are a thief’s bane.
Longbow #4 and dog pets are how we have access to that.

2. Channeled direct damage attacks will continue to damage someone in stealth.
Longbow #2 is our access to that.

3. Fear is a great cc that you can use without a target.
Wolf pet is our access to fear.

4. Pet Strategy: Using dog pets
a) Use your wolf fear when they go invisible and dodge roll twice towards your pet; the thief will be coming for you and get hit with the aoe fear.

b) Switch pets after the fear for quickness so you can dps his back.

c) If your switched pet is also a dog type, he will be leaping at him for a knockdown as fear dissipates.

Best Sigil for Shortbow? (pow/prec build)

Single target: Air
Multiple enemy: Fire

I am running fire on Longbow and air on Shortbow, as I use SB pretty much only for 1vs1, and LB when i fight group of enemies or from a safe long distance. Basically 1200 to 1500

Try using Fire for single target as well. It’s barely less damage than Air, but will kill necro pets, Illusions etc

Thanks for your feedback guys. We’re definitely looking at solutions to this problem. There is a lot of work we have planned for PvP, it’s just a matter of prioritizing it all in a way we feel will most benefit the community.

It would be nice if the pvp community were given a choice as to what we want implemented first.

There seems to be a lot of ideas that people in these forums agree upon as to what needs to be implemented next to make pvp better. Some of these either get brushed aside by comments of prioritization from Arena Net, or not commented on at all.

You could really do the community and game a favor by involving us in the decision making process. Tell us what you have in the queue. We’ll tell you what’s missing, and give feedback on what and why something should be done sooner rather than later.

Also, providing a test server with patch notes a week before implementation for community testing and feedback would provide an invaluable service to us, and to the developers.

Ranger's worst pet

Hyena – Borked stats since the nerf, other Canines are better.
Black Widow – Borked stats, all other spiders are better.
White Raven – Borked stats, all other birds are better.
Drakes – Garbage on land because the F2 just doesn’t work well and in the water Jellyfish do everything better.

Everything else has a use for some builds and/or situational superiority.

The Hyena is not too bad for PvP considering the F2 ability to call in another. The damage is good while it’s up, you get another knockdown and cripple attack too.

Your 10pts in Marksmanship will mostly benefit your first couple attacks only, since you will be dodging in a melee oriented build.

Those 10pts are much better for a bow-centric build where you can have full endurance most of the time.

Consider spending the pts in Beastmastery instead bringing you to 15 pts.

This would give you another +100 healing and +100stats for pet and quicker pet swapping for the quickness buff.

Another option is 10pts in Nature Magic for more survivability with regen and regen uptime, plus the boost to boon duration for protection uptime and of course 200 more health.

The mesmer can ONLY have up to 3 illusions total at any time.

Creating a clone or phantasm when 3 illusions are already up will immediately destroy one to bring it out, always keeping the total at 3 or less.

Full glass cannon I recall around 50 to 85 damage non crit difference. Very minimal considering well over 1k non crit hits.

Fire is almost as much a DD nuke as Air but with AoE.

I highly recommend it for the best dps increase option on a high crit build for pvp.

Match Statistics really do need to be upgraded with more information and with ability to see and compare everyone’s stats.

Try it out with GS as your main.

When you need a breather, you could do GS knockdown or stun, followed by weapon-swap to Longbow #4 and immediately #5 for the cripple – after #2 for some dps you should be ready for weapon swap again.

My build I linked can hold off a couple players for quite a while with just GS. You wouldn’t need the Longbow 1v1 and Longbow with 2v1 would be disasterous since you’d still have one person on you with no defensive attacks.

Hmmm. Not sure what kind of playstyle Longbow would be good at with Greatsword or Sword/Dagger.

Problem being that if you want Longbow as main weapon, then dps is really poor. If you want Longbow just for the knockback, then you have to wait a bit with no real defense till your weapon swap is back for your defensive weapon.

Play around with it – who knows, you may come up with something different and fun that works for you.

It also depends on what you want to accomplish with your build. If you want to be an on point presence, I think GS with it’s AoE is best.

If you just want to have an option for survivability as a backup weapon set to compliment a shortbow build, then I would recommend the sword/dagger.

My thoughts:

Greatsword
PROS
1. Free evade on every 3rd swing of #1 (take off auto to intersperse with dodge roll before and after for 3 evades in row if needed)
2. A nice block/knockback or ranged cripple option
3. Stun
4. One of the best escape/gap closers with the #3.
5. Survives well while still doing ok AoE damage.

CONS:
1. Damage is not that great.
2. Fairly slow attack animation

Sword/Dagger
PROS
1. Powerful auto-attack that should be taken off auto to help with the self root issue.
2. On – Demand evades that can work while immobilized.
3. Ranged Cripple.
3. Great for either Power or Condition Damage specs.
4. Survives well while doing great single target damage.

CONS:
1. Self rooting auto-attack. Take off the auto to help.

Here’s a Greatsword build I’ve used for support/bunker on point in sPvP. It has less health than you want, but it has 100% uptime on regen and great personal and group healing.

It’s also important to note that the uptime on vigor is really nice because of Healing Spring procing the trait multiple times.

My wish is that all my time playing sPvP would be worth more than glory for costume upgrades.

The suggestion for some exp is great which would at least allow me to rank up for WvW while pvping.

I’m rank 36 sPvP but get squashed like an ant in WvW because I’ve spent all my time in sPvP and tournaments.

I’m now going to go rank up in PvE/WvW while we wait and hope for the best before I get bored.

I think Oakheart Salve is in the Toughness line because DoTs are your Achilles’s heel while investing in Toughness. That one’s pretty sensible, actually, and I’ve used it from time to time for exactly that reason. Two Handed Training and Martial Mastery getting combined is a great idea, though.

Yeah it makes sense there, but still doesn’t get used that much because people who take 20 in Survival get both CC save-me’s and if they go 30 pts they get the condition removal or damage mitigation.

Nature Magic desparately needs the help.

Puting Oakheart Salve down in Nature Magic makes it accessible to have in ADDITION if you wanted to spec that way, plus would get shared with the pet.

I have a couple ideas to help make it more desirable which will help build diversity.

1. Move Oakheart Salve from the Wildnerness Survival Tree down to Nature Magic. Few people pick this because they’d rather take the CC protection.

2. Combine Two Handed Training with Martial Mastery in the Survival Tree(combine +5% damage with the reduced cooldown).

3. This would open up a spot for a new trait in Nature Magic. Maybe something to make Shouts more worthwhile, like removing a condition on use, or applying a boon like Protection on use (which would get shared with the pet because of the 15pt minor).

4. There would also be a spot for a new trait in Wilderness Survival.

One last thing, with the high crit and crit damage this build brings, use the best Sigil of Fire you can on each weapon.

(I like Fire over Air since it’s AoE and does nearly the same amount of damage.)

The’ll proc every 5 to 6 seconds for a very nice 1k-2k+ hit.

When I play this build I use Wolf and Hyenas. The knockdowns, cripples and fear they bring to the table makes it easier to finish without them being able to escape or mount a counter offense.

I start with wolf and make use of his F2:Fear after his knockdown hits. When you switch to Hyena, use hit F2 for calling in an ally after his knockdown hits; this will give you another knockdown from the called ally hyena that is offset in timing from the first one.

Plus the dog pets have pretty nice damage as well. The knockdowns hurt.

Fate’s rotation is decent, but when I switch to SB, I hit SB poison volley then crippling shot, then switch pets for quicknesss with the auto fire and save concussion shot for when their arm goes up to signal a heal.
