Even if its not MI, the female human is emitting the light and not the asura. And the human appeared from thin air from some teleporting ability. That part seems pretty clear.
So are you guys are saying it was better before? With the desolate maps and such. Maybe I am not fully understanding but I always thought megaservers were a good thing, to keep more people on the same map. Honestly its hard to read through the OPs post because he is so negative.
There are a number of things that megaservers are good for – one of the big ones is what you mentioned about empty maps.
But there are some cases where dealing with the megaserver system is a nightmare.
-Organizing large groups for world bosses
-Finding and developing communities (roleplayers among others)
-Seeing the same people regularly and getting to know them
-Calling in help for WvW from populated PvE areas
-Bugged event chainsThere have been some small improvements on number 3 in the year or so we’ve had megaservers. None of the others have been addressed at all. We keep getting larger and more zone-wide events – just look at Silverwastes. We’ve been promised more of these in HoT. But we lack any kind of tools to actually organize more than 5 people at a time.
Understood, thanks a lot. Yea I can for sure see the issues now.

You know you don’t actually have to change maps. There is a “No” button…
I read the title of this post as “Well I don’t want to do certain things in a game I like.” Nothing is stopping you from doing the daily but you. Its not anets fault that you choose to avoid 2/3rds of the game. Seriously man, go into pvp and join one of the organized daily maps and knock it out if its that important to you. No sense in complaining about something that YOU are at fault for.
Whats wrong with Shield? people complain because it doesnt actually give you a block but why do you need block? it has Protection , a bubble(admittidly not the best) and some ish damage.. It is more based on shielding your group as a whole and not just your own selfish self..(take that you focus users) and Because it has the ability to protect 5 + people instead of just one yes it does not get as much respect because all most people care about is selfish personal damage and not helping the group as a whole.
Which is probably the most dumb thing ever.. I’m sure your OP meta zerker build can do the same amount as the 4 other people you just let die because “helping” others is just not effective
The problem which you don’t seem to understand is that shield doesn’t bring anything more meaningful than other weapons or utilities. You can get near constant projectile defense with utilites (if properly traited), so why do we need some lackluster 2 sec. shield 5 ability? The heal? lol. If you want a decent group heal use staff 4 or selfless daring, which are considerably better heals and are not on some absurd cooldown. As for the protection, don’t kid yourself. Hammer and hold the line give better forms of protection and don’t rely on you aiming at your allys. But to be far, as Black Box pointed out, blinds are waaay more effective that protection because you are preventing damage.
In order for shield to be viable it needs to bring something that we dont have, or have a better capability that what we already have. And no, a knockback is not enough to waste an equipment slot on.
Also forgot to mention that focus is a great party defense and offensive weapon. For starters it has a multiple mob blind and regan. It does have a self block but on the flip side is one of the 2 blast finishers a guardian has which can help blast any fields, but in particular fire and water. Sounds like party support to me and is exactly why focus is the meta, because its the best offhand.

So i just watched it several times and the flash that looks like selfless daring actually appears to be a Human Guardian using MI to port to the asura. The asura is clearly wielding a longbow as well. The flash occurs and the human appears, which wasn’t previously there. And the human is unfortunately wielding a greatsword….. I took a snapshot of it.
Here is a shot while the asura is dodging, notice no human.

Near the end of the dodge, the human guardian appears to port in.

Dang, looks like i need to watch that clip again. Thanks!
Tome of Wrath deals quite a lot of damage in PvP, from my experiences. In particular it eats up players who spam stealth (thieves and mesmers). The user is fairly vulnerable when using it though; using it without some form of stability is always a terrible idea and typically results in dying. It’s meh in PvE imo, but it might increase DPS slightly via quickness, I guess.
Tome of wrath is a huge dps loss compared to a proper gs & sw/f rotation. You really only see speed runner using it to get the quickness buff then quickly dropping it. If you aren’t trying to set records there’s little reason to use it.
I get it that people want to make things better like, shield, spirit weapons, tomes, etc. But reaching for reasons where it might possibly be good should clue you in that its in bad shape. Because really, if it was viable there would be no discussion because people would be using it….
“Rev skills don’t look original, but an offshoot of other MMOs” Would have been a better title.
You would have got more attention to the thread and had a more interesting conversation. You could have then brought up the links about the skills also being similar to those of the Rogue in WoW and other MMOs.
The downside to have “WoW” in the thread title, does draw a lot of negativity before people start reading.
You can say the same thing about other skills from other professions in gw2. Just because the revenant may or may not have 1 skill similar to another game hardly makes all skills (that we have no idea) unoriginal. Its a fantasy game with similar concepts to tons of other things, of course there is going to be some overlap. Hardly worth a discussion since we don’t know any of the other revenant skills, we only know of the design and concept.
Honestly, and I know a few people won’t agree with me, I’d kinda like to see the current Cultural Armors not restricted to that race. There’s some parts from Human, Norn, and Asura heavy that I’d love to see on my Charr and visa-versa.
I can’t help but disagree. The whole point is in the fact that it’s exclusive. How can charr wear a tiny asuran boot with three holes made for fingers?
I agree, if they add more cultural armor I hope its still race exclusive. It helps give them some slight uniqueness in a game where looks are the endgame.
vpchelko is obviously a troll, just ignore him and his posts. His postings here have proved his ignorance.
Another nice topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Fix-the-hobosacks
People do not know how to make sure that the information reaches the right people. They don’t believe in support.
This isn’t a bug. Its the design choice, just because people do not like it does not make it a bug. Seems like you are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
The tomes aren’t trash at all; people just can’t live without their precious panic button.
The tomes are trash and will continue to be until we can use utilities or virtues. There’s no reason why they can’t be treated as conjured weapons. Also tome of wrath is a huge dps loss compared to a proper weapon rotation. The fact is, you lose so much while gaining so very little.
I’m done. Obvious troll is obvious.
im not trolling, i just disagree with you. That method of obtaining it is too easy.
This method we still no nothing about?? We dont know how involved the new method of obtaining a precursor will be. Why do people keep making threads complaining about things that we have no idea about. Stop being a troll on the forum please.
I understand that you want to use shield, i really do too. You will soon find out that it just simply sucks. And you said it best on why it sucks: “My reason for wanting to focus on aegis is for the lack of shields having a block. This way, in essence, i would have a “block” with shield.”
You can shine a kitten but at the end of the day, its still a kitten . Its as futile as trying to make a bad thing work.
If you want the most blocks you can get you are going to have to use focus instead of shield. Heres the breakdown of a sample block rotation:
f3
focus 5 (3 blocks)
retreat
shelter (block duration)
renewed focus (invuln and bring f3 off cooldown)
f3
And if you put 1 point in valor you can get another aegis when you go below 50% health.
I’m still wishing for a 25% movement speed elite signet. Come on HoT. (:
If we get a movement signet as an elite it will be rage inducing…. We dont need more lackluster abilities.
You should be using your virtues, otherwise you are doing it wrong. What are you playing that you dont need them since you said dungeons or pvp isnt your thing?
The tomes are utter trash and you just kitten yourself if you use them, you lose your utilites and virtues and you have to trait to even get stability while using the tome. Renewed focus is very good, but its really only good because its the only elite worth using.
As with most of information about HoT, no one knows anything. So unless you hear it directly from anet, its all speculation. Chase provides some cool info, i’ve never tried that. Ill keep that in mind, i run gw2 on windows and mac as well.
All classes are DPS classes. There isn’t a hard line drawn to distinguish dps/healing/tanking. All classes do everything. The main goal of the guardian is to do damage while defensively supporting your team. You can go full damage in your stats and still provide plenty of support for your team such as blinds/blocks/reflects/protection/stability/etc. The single most important thing about a guardian in dungeons is knowing the encounters so that you can use your defenses at the right time. There are many times where a guardian is crucial to the success of the fight because they can bring so much support/defense while performing good dps.
For instance in the normal dungeon builds these are what you will bring to the fight, in terms of defense (depending on which weapon/utility equipped):
4 blinds blinds (greatsword 3/focus 4, sword 2, traited f1 (spammable for trash))
2 party wide blocks (Plus you can get another if you use renewed focus to reset the CD on f3)
2 additional personal blocks (mace 3, focus 5) and 1 self invulnerability (elite utility)
2 reflects (Wall of reflection will be your best friend when you learn the encounters, its a party wide reflect, sword 2 is a personal reflect)
3 stability (2 utilites and a traited f3)
2 projectile absorbs (spirit shield and shield 5 (unfortunatly the shield weapon sucks))
3 condition removers (2 utilities and a traited f2)
And of course dodge!Ok right right. I keep forgetting the whole no Trinity thing. So I could crack out more damage. For some reason it was in my head that stats like Power or Condition effected healing and durations on boons. But would Engineer have different one other that prot, aegis, etc.? I do like guardians supportive abilities but I prefer to buff damage instead of defenses.
In my opinion, if you want to have offensive support abilities, a warrior or elementalist is what you would want. The best offensive boons are might and fury, which both classes grant to the full party. Ranger also provides great offensive boons as well with spotter and frost spirit. I’m not to well versed on engineer.
low damage, loss of dps while stacking might, wall is usless against champs and trash is unneeded.
So Guardian is just a DPS class? If so then I am in the wrong class at level 52 already….ugh.

Yea I hear you. I’m remaining hopeful for the guardian and hopefully they will actually release some meaningful updates about HoT soon. Maybe we will all be surprised.
My only worry is that there will not be enough time in the day for me to enjoy HoT! But seriously, they havent announced hardly anything yet, its all just been teaser stuff. Until we see some actual new content I’m not worried. There’s no sense in worrying about something that may never be worth worrying over.
A blast finisher alone will not help shield. The skills need a total rework, which simply isn’t going to happen. But lets say it gets a blast finisher, its still not enough to take it over focus (which already has a blast finisher, regan, blind, block, and attack). The shield should provide a real means of defense and not pathetically short cone protection or 2 sec projectile defense. The abilities are far to weak. Its been beat to death on the forums on the many ways to improve shield and the only answer from anet has been a lower cooldown, which has done nothing to make the shield more viable over our other offhands.
If you want to get left behind, then you don’t have to get the expansion. I don’t understand why there is an expectation of getting the expansion content for free.
Personally, while i’d like for them to make more cultural-themed armor (esp. for Norn and Charr), i wouldn’t like any more race-specific ones.
I wouldn’t mind more armor that are thematically made for specific professions, as well (just, again, not profession-locked).For me this is probably more what I meant. I don’t care of other races could wear norn armor, I just want the option for more cultural themed stuff.
I disagree, I think it helps give the races a uniqueness. Could you imagine if human heavy t3 wasn’t race-locked…… I would also like to see some profession specific armor too, thats a cool idea.
Well we know it isnt going to be a spear because Colin said that spears are staying underwater.
Any link for that? Everything I’ve seen was of the “there will be no new weapons” variety without addressing spears. I’d love to watch something unambiguous about it.
Here you go. It was in an interview with Colin during the PAX east after party:
We talked polearms. No polearms in this expansion. Colin said “We warned the art team what the community would think when they saw the trailer, but they chose to make things the way they did.” It looks like a polearm but it is not. No word if they ever will be.
And here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2tsiox/pax_afterparty_lessons_learned/
I mean i guess you can argue whether or not polarms are the same as spears but to me, it means no spears on land. There was also a video where either MattVisual or WoodanPotatos mention an interview about spears on land but I haven’t found it again yet.
How about the absurd size of the greatswords? I doubt anyone could swing those around like they do in game. There’s a lot of ridiculous looking weapons in the game, so i dont understand your complaint.
Also a staff can be a martial weapon, i dont see anything wrong with it and I think it would probably be cool and different from other games.
Well we know it isnt going to be a spear because Colin said that spears are staying underwater. With that, i think its most likely going to be either sword offhand or axe mainhand. But I do think it would be cool to have a longbow.
I really hope so too. I will be a little disappointed if they don’t but oh well. But there better be like Harper said, an expansion’s worth of cosmetic choices. Especially since they said this expansion is more of a character progression expansion.
What do you think the odds are for some new cultural armor? I’m really hoping we see at least one new set.
Seems true to the game. Guardians in game only use shield for looks and not actual combat.
Another useful tip for group play is that a whirling finisher (whirling wrath or binding blade) on a light field causes cleansing bolts which can cure conditions to the group. You have to be pretty close to them and its usually a last resort condi cleanse but it works none the less. Light fields are often frowned upon but they do have some niche usefulness.
lol ok i was confused by your original post. I agree, necro needs some pve group love for sure.
Smite is too RNG-oriented to be reliable DPS, so usually sword is the preferred 1 handed weapon for a DPS setup.
Depends on the enemy. If its a large hitbox enemy, scepter the best dps weapon for the guardian. But this is assuming you are switching up weapons for different encounters.
For the OP, I also like mace over sword and here is why: Mace dps is nearly identical to sword thanks to the symbol (traited provides vulnerability) damage as well as the strong auto attack. The third auto for mace is a huge cleave plus can hit for 10k if fully buffed. The next best thing mace has to provide is the low cooldown on-demand block, and if hit counters for huge damage as well. The small healing that mace provides is also a good way to help sustain party scholars buffs as well.
Sword is good but the third strike in the auto-chain is hit or miss and using the sword 2 is a dps loss since it hits very low. Sword 3 is very good, but it roots you in place and I just don’t like abilities like that. Sword does have the advantage of mobility though.
Also for offhand choices focus is the preferred weapon but with the recent torch change I am using it more and more, especially in open world PVE where you really dont need more defense that the focus brings.
What does a necromancer have to do with the economy?
I can’t believe there are “disappointment” threads already when there is almost no info about it and we don’t know when it will be out….. Also your comments about a support class make me think about how little you know about support in this game. Every class is support, fyi.
Are you serious, why would you waste a clear defiant on a knockback!!! I lol’d at your 64 defense and the fact that you think you can hold aggro. This game is not designed for one player to hold consistent aggro on a boss and many boss have various aggro mechanics.
I just plain disagree that the shield can deal a substantial healing with its cooldown. You are better of using staff and empower if you want to group heal. This is the whole argument – Shield doesn’t bring anything better than what we already have, so why use it?
Also if your goal is complete SE the slowest possible way, then clerics gear is the right choice i guess.
Anytime I have ever seen someone use a knockback in a dungeon, they immediately get kicked because knockbacks have no place in dungeons. This is especially true after the FGS nerf because there is no reason to have the boss against the wall anymore….. You should be clearing defiant and freezing the boss, not knocking him back….
Everyone always talks like the knockback is a good thing and its not. Knockbacks are almost never useful simply because it knocks enemys away from the damage you or your party is trying to do. The shield 5 should just knockdown, that way you keep the utility of the interrupt while still being able to damage the enemy or assist a downed player.
Its so annoying when you are fighting as a group and you a guard pop shield 5 it it knocks it out of your WW/symbol/etc. And for what, a terrible heal and a 2 sec projectile defense? Its just simply never worth using over the guardians other superior offhands.
Agreed! Shield is a worthless weapon and no amount of CD reduction will change the fact that the 4 and 5 skills are just awful. There still is no reason to ever equip one on a guardian. Its a real shame.
Thief – 3rd Pistrol – Lara Croft
I lol’d so much. You win!
Its going to be very interesting indeed. I think gw2 is about to have drastic changes with the specialization and mastery systems. Exciting!
Also, engineers dont use heavy armor
If you haven’t played the jungle and you haven’t built up your character, you’re not going to beat that content.
Why should you be able to beat content you haven’t worked for? Challenging content is exactly what this game needs desperately. Nothing in GW2 is really challenging besides higher level fractals and its all been beaten to death since launch. Something really to work towards besides just cosmetics, and it should be something that requires work and time. This is the first major update to GW2 and I wouldn’t expect anything after HOT for a long time so the content within HoT should be vast and should take time to progress though via masteries.
Obviously there is a fine line between progression time and just plain grindy and we will just have to wait and see what is in store for us.
The good thing about threads like this is that it makes it really easy to figure out who to put on your blocked list. I cant imagine the stuff you put in general chat….
i NEVER ever feelt it that it roots me while getting hitted in the face.
But thats exactly what it does…. Shield 5 does not stop people from hitting you because they still can walk through the bubble and the projectile defense is ridiculously short.
Guardian shield does not bring anything better than what we already have access to. This is the problem with shield, because there is never a reason to bring it over another weapon. You can get perma-protection from hammer and superior reflects from utilties and sword without gimping yourself by equipping a shield.
A shield should have the best defense abilities for guard (because its a fricking shield) and currently it does not, and no amount of cooldown reduction will change that.
Just wanted to troll u by saying u forgot the base defense stats the shield gives and the toughness from trait :P
lol if you need that HUGE bonus (sarcasm) to toughness then you have a much bigger problem….

At least, before you could just drop the dome and move&forget (the dome would be still up), but now, even if this occurs (I not tested it) it will be worthless, becouse curretly is bugged and only length for 2 sec instead of 4 sec.
Nah, they “fixed” that because it was a “bug”. Now if you break the channel the dome disappears.
Yeah, basically Shield of Absorption translates into: “Root yourself for 4s and take a beating. You can detonate dome to heal a portion off the kitten whooping you took while looking stupid”
Now that’s advanced guardian superiority.
Thats the best description i’ve ever seen for shield. But thank god it got a lower cooldown!!!
Really if you are not using renewed focus in a dungeon you are doing it wrong. The tomes in their current form are simply trash. Unless you are super into speed clearing and breaking records where sometimes they choose tome of wrath. I remember seeing a speed clear of SE where the guard used quickness from the tome then dropped it immediately.
But if you just want to do dungeons reliably and efficiently then never take renewed focus off your bar. The invuln is awesome and it more importantly it resets f2 and f3 allowing you for another condition clear (assuming you are traited) and another party wide block.
