I think player housing was something that Anet wanted to explore in the future, but for now there is the ‘home instance’ in your cultural city. Doesn’t do a lot right now though.
Fractals is character bound? Ah well. I really like the game and couldn’t give two kitten about grinding out gear.
If I want it, I’ll put in the time to get it.
Cool. Thanks for the info. While I understand (to some extent) the outrage, I do feel that a lot of people miss the
" it’s not required to play the game." part of that. Example, there was a guy in Gandara LA last night saying “LFG FotM Lvl80 Exo NON00BS”. In 20 seconds, most of map chat was taking the piss out of him for being an elitist prick.
But most of all, I am confused. There’s no real need for Ascended gear at the moment in main PvE, and odds are if you go deep enough in FotM, you’ll get them anyway. I am fully aware of the arguments for and against this new tier.
Again, thanks so this can probably be locked now.
There’s already a gear treadmill at Level 80.
It goes White-Blue-Green-Yellow-Orange.
Can’t believe a little extra tier is provoking so much rage.
“In most games, you occasionally have tasks that are really fun to do, and the rest of the game is a boring grind to get to the fun stuff. We don’t want people to grind in games. It’s not fun, we want to change the way people view combat”.
So, can anyone point me to the part where the said this about gear?
It’s always confused me why MMO makers always say a game will remove grind.
Most video games require grind, be it for the story, new items or whatever. I hated Alpha Protocol’s combat but my goal was to see how the story ended so I ground it out. Bethesda’s games are just as guilty when you boil it down.
59 guardian with 3 80s and a 41 something or other.
Level 1 was challenging, but fun.
Woops, thanks for the tip!
Amazing.
From the heat mechanic to the lighting effects in the forest with the Svanir, my PUG loved it all.
The one thing I would comment on is the ice shards blocked a player out of the final boss so we had to 4 man it, perhaps delay that a little?
Would you like some fish with that massive chip on your shoulder, Jena?
It’s just interesting numbers. I didn’t get a pre-cursor, but after the momentous slog of the event I’m happy for some people who did.
This should be in the ranger forum under ’Hitler’s legitimate complaints’.
Hey guys, I recorded a few videos with some commentary over the weekend and a couple of roundup videos for Halloween.
Start http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRgv0VXEqNk&feature=plcp and let me know what you think please!
Thx!
It was probably locked because it should’ve been in Discussion, not the event forum. Still, would’ve been better if it had been moved.
If you have a look around Anet let some of the majorly critical threads continue.
On 45%.
Soon one demographic or another of forumers will be eating their words. I hope I don’t, I already had dinner.
This is the first time for me since headstart that servers have been down. I can wait an hour or so.
I assume they’re applying the patch now.
I’ve got a box of tampons ready just in case anyone needs them, as it’s your time of the month to kitten.
Credit-stealing, wooden-voiced (ho ho ho), kitten prat of a non-entity in your story.
Still, more likeable than Logan.
Oh for god’s sake, man, grow a pair.
That worked well in GW1 mainly because the level cap never shifted, something that I can’t see GW2 doing.
And besides, GW1 DID do it when it came to inscriptions in Nightfall.
The game was released with vision of no gear progression, everything was ABOUT SKINS. Now they changed it so what the kitten you expect from peope to do?
The basic-fine-masterwork-rare-exotic scale of items would like to have a word. GW2 has always had gear progression.
Didn’t Guild Wars 1 have a gate stat that prevented players from advancing into the final parts of Prophecies.
Yes. Yes, they did. And it was fine.
It depends what the reason is.
Most places won’t take a PC returned game because a) an MMO will have a one-time us key code for that account, b) you should have checked the system specs before you bought it,
or c) you mentioned Ascended items.
I am quite interested to see how this develops. If it’s just higher numbers, then it’s a little silly, especially when it comes to making legendaries obsolete.
I am quite surprised a new tier of armour has come in this early, although at the latest I expected it with the first expansion when the level cap is increased, and therefore, better stats are needed for high end areas.
What I’d like to see at the moment is:
Make Ascended items a complete pain in the kitten to get. You cannot have an arbitrary drop chance for a tier of items that might break the game at this point.
Quest/Mission/Crafting Upgrade of Legendaries to keep them top tier and relevant.
Hopefully the new items won’t be drastically more powerful at this point, but I am wary to see how this goes. Hopefully all will be well.
Nah, the funds weren’t an issue, it was just surprising, that’s all. Thanks for clearing it up!
Sorry if this has been done to death, but I bought my Level 60 trait book, but I can’t use it.
Apparently because I’ve not used the level 40 one, I need to use that before I can use the level 60 one?
Seriously? I know gold sinks are gold sinks, but that’s a little silly.
I’d be interested in acquiring artifacts of questionable power…
Tracks that count to title:
Halloween Huntin’
Halloween Events
Mad King’s Realm
Attend The Party
Trick-Or-Treat Bags
@Invictus
The Clock Tower isn’t necessary for the Emissary title.
I did think it was weird that Ac 1 and 2 spread over three days, yet it seemed to me that Act 3 was over in less than 2…
Josh. HEY, JOSH.
Don’t stop making puzzles like this. I want my kitten to be kicked. I want to scream in frustration at the number of times I die only to get to the top and scream with elation.
This isn’t kitten Wars 2: Let’s All Have A Lovely Cup Of Tea & Snuggle A Fuzzy Unicorn. We’re saving the world, here. Come Wintersday I want to scale a giant Christmas tree where baubles explode and the candy canes are wrenched off by oversized children because I want a game where you’ve gone “Hey. kitten you guys, the treasure at the top is mine and I’ll be god kitten if you’re getting hold of it”.
It’s a fantastic puzzle, and I completed as a norn and completed to the top running with a Charr. You’re the dog’s balls mate, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Regardless of whether you completed it or not, this man deserves a medal for raising our blood pressure.
To which I say to Mr Foreman; is that all you’ve got? Make me a puzzle so kitten devious I’ll ignore my Christmas dinner to complete it.

+1 to the above post’s quoted post.
This has been a phenomenal event. Not without it’s issues (skins debate, grouping for the dungeon atm) but I’ve had a blast!
Link to related hilarious destruction pls?
They’re not broken, you need to complete the meta-event chains to open them up again.
Ravenblade, I am sorry to hear about your disability and I do hope you have been enjoying the events thus far.
As fair as your ideas sound, it would mean they’d have to completely rehash a puzzle that they’ve probably been working on since well before release in an afternoon for that will only be up for Halloween week.
I didn’t really have issues with the camera, right-click and move the mouse, adjust on straight parts.
Xia, if you fail at the last jump, you miss the closest restart and have to wait for the entire bar to fill up. A bit annoying, but hey.
Was this challenge hard? Did it have my pounding my desk, swearing at the screen and have me walking off in frustration? Gods, yes. It took me maybe 8 hours, each time getting a little farther and learning the path.
When I finally got to the top, I was elated. I didn’t feel I’d won through attrition as someone else said, but I was skillful enough to beat it. Through attrition, you’re guaranteed to win eventually because of the resources you put in, in this case time. That’s simply not true, there are some people who will try for 20 hours straight that won’t make it.
Gear was secondary. I didn’t feel relieved, I felt a massive sense of accomplishment.
Good tips, but you do have a point about norn and charr. The worst bit for me is that clusterkitten after the wall collapses and it’s like releasing the bulls of Pamplona. Once that’s weeded out the chaff, past the small square you’re laughing usually.
+1 to Darkeven’s post.
Norn
Guardian
No Speed Buffs.
Took me 8 hours to learn the nuances, including fluffing a jump into the clock tower itself. Totally worth it, rewards are alright but the satisfaction is immense. Keep it as it is.
Some of the clues are obtuse beyond belief, but I guess it’s why Act 1 is three days long.
I rolled the doors until I got my bars filled for the event title. Sold the corn. Boom, job done.
In the 15 minutes between the corn being sold and typing this, it’s already fallen 6c. The peak has passed, it’ll be cheap as hell soon enough.
Lolspoilerslol.
I am loving the event so far.
I’m a little confused by this one in the achievement panel, can someone clear it up? I think it’s the tier for killing things from haunted doors, but I’m not sure.
+1 me to Xericor’s comments. I play for 5 hours a day or so, never been hit by the DR.
LOTRO had a system that you could craft permanent, buffed tools at high levels. One thing I didn’t like was how a) you only had one tool slot and b) more importantly, regular tools didn’t have a limited number of uses.
If there was some ridiculous way to get permanent gathering tools, it could be interesting. Obviously, talking 400 crafting for them or a hefty amount of gold/karma.
And the best thing is, when expansions come along, the level cap is raised and so is crafting level, they’ll be redundant and you’ll have to invest more gold into making a better set, so the money sink aspect isn’t lost.
I understand your frustration, and I’m currently decked out in full pillaging gear, but it does seem to make little difference…I think that the drop rate for yellows/oranges is so low anyway that the number boost is negligible.
I know they’re RARE and EXOTIC, but I wouldn’t mind getting a few more in Orr now and again :p
I’ve built up a decent sized friends list over the last few weeks of people who whisper me to play, even joined a couple of other guilds to meet new people.
What I do agree with though, is that some areas of the game are pretty quiet, but I’d take that over the hell that is Barrens chat any day. Sadly, I think a lot of players have cottoned on to the fact that by removing parties from the system for DE’s/mobs etc that you can talk to anyone and go with it.
I’ve made a few friends here and there, even dropped into Lion’s Arch the other day to say hi to the resident troll after a fortnight or so of not seeing him and had a bit of a catch up. He’d been ‘pwning n00bs’ or something.
But yeah, I hope the experience does turn round for you Vimes because I’m feeling pretty social in game at the mo.
Build manager would be ace…although it did take slightly longer to get that than it did the ‘switch character’ option which was about 5 years…
Point 2 means that you complete all hearts/vistas/skill points/points of interest for the experience.
Whenever a dungeon opens up to you, you’ll get a letter in your mailbox, beginning at level 30.
