Seems a bit of a double standard to create a thread for your thoughts on the matter, then to demand someone else has n rights to express theirs. Clearly you do not want a discussion on the matter. It appears all your wanting are those who agree with you.
- I’ve received nothing but personal attacks along the lines of “do you even play Guardians?” and dismissive texts that have nothing to do with the thread. Yours is quite fitting continuation for that.
It’s not a personal attack to assume that you don’t play the class. It’s an observation based on your clear ignorance of the subject matter.

Combos are an advanced technique, it should end up with powerful effects to encourage people to try to use it.
It’s not fire fields that are too strong, it’s more like everything other than fire and water are too weak. Buff the other fields, not nerf fire.

I will have to disagree with that. Being 3 hits is one of the main attraction. It counts 3 times toward the 5th hit for the burning Virtue. It creates at least 3 chances for crit for sigil purpose.
The flaw of the sword AA3 lies in that a) count as range attack when you generally in melee when that occurs and b) the narrow cone shape that often missses anything that any that flies too high, stay too low or too much to the left/right.
You have a good point, can’t argue with that. And yea, the narrow angle of attack for it is ridiculous. Always feel like it misses at point blank range. lol

If there is going to be a nerf in the first it’s the most reasonable imo (altho I don’t support the entire “nerf celestial might stacking” trend of late). Would be pretty dumb to nerf the sigils and runes that EVERYONE uses simply because another class uses it and your’s does not and is pretty pathetic. Yet at the same time has everyone taken the time to learn how those builds work and when/how the best way to try and kill it is? My ele USED to be my main b4 switching to guard (medi) so even though people tell me D/D Eles counter me… I find that to be quite false in sPvP OR WvW. I can’t speak about Warrior or Engi seeing as how I’ve never taken the time to get to learn them. Perhaps I’ll find the time when they start face kitten me.

Sword#3 – I don’t use sword simple because of this skill, it’s way to unreliable. I feel the need to waste a skill just to get it half of it off. Guard’s lack of mobility doesn’t help either. ^^ Could make it weaker but allow full movement while casting. Minus the damage nerf I don’t see this becoming useful any other way without using a knockdown,immo,pull, etc.)

I’d rather have the ability to choose each individual armor piece and trinket that exists in WvW/PvE versus any change of the current amulet system in sPvP.
Shield’s #4 looks like it should knockb… what if it knocked back multiple foes. :V
You can’t charge in and spam your your skills hoping to kill an ele. Save your dps for right after they leave water attunement. :V
Also trying to face kitten one that is in air/fire is a horrible idea as well. They are melee after all.

I don’t think I explained my point well enough.
These skills should not last past the channelling bar, at all. These skills should only be doing damage while the player is in the animation. The way they currently act is totally different from the rest of the game.
If a ranger is no longer in the animation where he’s shooting arrows, then arrows should no longer fall. Same with meteor from elementalist.
When an elementalist starts channeling meteor shower it takes a few seconds for a meteor to actually touch the ground. They’re summoning a meteor shower from the sky. The meteors take time to fall out the sky. Hence the long delay of the first actual impact.
Ranger is physically shooting arrows, if your not shooting arrows how could they possibly fall?
TL;DR Elementalist is a ‘magician’. Pretty sure magic isn’t tide to such simple logic.

I understand concept of hardcounters and all but either this game needs to live it to 100% (which is not the case with engis, warriors and co.) or change the way classes interact that so we don’t have some classes that have no hardcounters and then classes that stand 0 chance vs other.
Seeing as Anet won’t introduce any hardcounters to engis (please don’t bring up necro, engis can still beat them), warriors and co., i think it is time that thieves also have chance even if slight vs guardians. At the moment there only 2 ways thief stands any chance vs guardian:
- guardian is afk and doesn’t fight at all
- thief has help from 2 other playersYou would say but hey pvp is not about 1v1, surely it is not and it would be fine if matches wouldn’t consist of 3-5 guardians (rest engis

)….. As thief at that point you might as well just sit afk at spawn or hope that enemy afk. I find it highly discouraging.I suggest following changes (not necessary together):
Note: all this suggestions are only for pvp, weither or not they should be applied for the rest of the game is different topic.
thief changes:
- bountiful theft should prioritize stability and aegis, right now it completely ignores aegis
- every 3rd attack on thief AA chain should go through the block/invulguard changes:
- contemplation of purity should convert 3 conditions only, not unlimited
- purging flames CD increased by 5 sec
- fiery wrath should be moved to master tier at least
- focused mind should be moved to more damage oriented trait lane
- smite conditions needs it’s CD increased by 5-10 sec
- very arguable: virtrues should only grant teammates buffs if guardian traited for (similar to venom share)general changes:
- burning dmg/scaling needs to be nerfed in pvp: yes it will affect other classes but i honestly think that burning IS too strong of condition atm in pvp and too easily applied… no matter what class i play atm, pretty much all my deathes come from 20+k burning, 15k+ bleeding and torment in that order… guradians and engis are especially at fault since they apply burning on pretty much any attack
- max amount of might obtainable in pvp should be reduced to 10 (for any class), the duration reduced by 20-30% in pvp
- intelligence sigil should have crit chance reduced to 50% (arguable) instead of 100%
- retal duration needs to be reduced by 50% in pvp
- celestial amulet needs a nerf across all stats in pvp, atm it is too build and meta defining and overshadows other amulets in effectivness (there is enough threads about it)
Actually, I have an easy solution to your problem. Why don’t you go record some footage of you fighting guardians and link it for us so we can tell you exactly what you should and shouldn’t be doing.
listen to urself bro. if a guard has to be a noob to lose to a thief then that means the ones that aren’t losing are good… in other words u keep getting beaten by good players. secondly, guard has a higher skill cap than u might think making the average guardian quite competent. perhaps u practice dueling guards or actually watch some guard videos and learn how they play instead of writing this nonsense on the threads.

If you talk about medi guard… Boon strip stability with steal and then try to chain daze him. (Use mace + CnD into tactical strike). Works wonder… I am not even a main thief and i usually beat them…

Wow… I told i’m not even a main thief and I win most of the medi guard but I never said anything about beating a random Main guard (With a lots of time in the profession) as a thief… Even tough, Blind easily avoided if you pay attention a bit. Aegis and stability are removed 1st on the boon stripping traits for steal.
After that, outlast the guard as at some point he will not have that much skill out of cd
which won’t heal him, therefore letting you an open window to burst/daze chain him without real fear.That’s my 2 cents of a non-main thief.
PS: Shortbow awsome to kite and S/P still evade and dps even when the stun doesnt connect.

The only point you made is that you need to l2p. The update hasn’t even come yet and you’re already making qq threads? You should take more time thinking about what you did wrong when fighting a medi guard than complaining about losing to them. Trying to face tank builds that are made for pure dps isn’t very smart. The fault isn’t with Guard’s trait lines, it’s with you.

It’s obvious I worded my first comment wrong. The reason I’m frustrated is that I know that link was an original from either my videos or my thread not the fact that he’s using the whole might stacking, empowering might build. Which I can break it down pretty well. I don’t want my name or my channel/thread/videos linked in his thread/video description. That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is I work hard to bring videos almost every week or two, building/rebuilding my channel so people can find things easier. Creating the thread and guide. Has nothing to do with running 2/0/6/6/0. Has to do with the weapons, traits taken in each trait line, sigils used, food used and all gear being exactly the same except 3 to compensate for what he already has (valk back piece) and what he doesn’t have (azurite rings) so he went with soldier rings. It is widely known that most people prefer traveler’s instead of runes of strength with my build for anyone who does run it.

Yes, but it is slightly diffrent. I am running with Traveler runes insted, plus some diffrent accessories like Berserker plus Valkyrie back and some mighty wvw infiusions.

Running soldier rings instead of azurite exotic rings and a valk backpiece doesn’t make it a new build. There are no sentinel ascended what else would u run in place of the sentinel exotic? In essence you have one trinket(backpiece) that is different.

imo, people just need to learn to play. Nobody was complaining about ele before this. Why now? Because they kill you? My main used to be ele but now it is Guard. I stopped playing ele because of kittened threads like this to nerf eles because people don’t want to learn how to play against them better. Active defense is part of the guard mechanic and you’ll use it in all game modes. That said, you can’t rely only on active defenses in pvp because you can’t avoid all incoming damages. Best guards does rely heavily on blinds, blocks, etc, but they still need to trait either for meditation heal as a dps spec or ah as a bunker spec.
As far as your build goes, you’re really squishy for any sort of pvp, It can work as a roaming spec in www, but that’s about all. I would swap two handed mastery for empowering wrath if you’re using strenght runes. The minor in valor isn’t incredibly useful either, my call would be either 0/5/0/4/4 or 0/3/0/4/6 if you really want to play like that.
I was actually surprised how long I was able to survive with overlapping ae blinds and timed aegis triggers while having no real regenerative ability. Paper for sure, but was going for a proof of concept so tried to run without monk’s focus or altruistic healing.
It is missing something, which is why I opened up the idea to the community for theory crafting. It survived about as long as a medi guard would, but didn’t recover for chain fights quickly enough, thus lack of sustain for long fights (limit of many/most dps builds).
In the end I keep building back to meditations, which is why I was so quick to shut down the earlier link. I already know about meditations and standardized meta builds, trying to see what we can do outside of the box.
Maybe creative use of sigil/runes or something, not competitive for sure, but just experimenting for fun.
Thanks for input all and I hope people stay encouraged to push the boundaries instead of limiting themselves to what is already known.

I love this build but admittedly it can not keep up with ALL the conditions in the game. A decent necro and any dps player can kill you pretty fast. So this talk of 2v1ing depends a lot on the classes you face.
Conditions will plague just about any class especially guardians. Good players will give you a little trouble period. True, the comp of the enemies your fighting will always come into play depending on your build. A necro + “insert class” usually always promotes some sort of challenge. 1v1 they are pretty easy but if more than just one, necro is usually the first you want to kill. lol

I would love to see some more wvw videos, particularly against condition classes. I have tried playing mace with a guardian in wvw but I get kited easily by condition engineers, PU mesmers (sometimes you gotta fight them, like holding a camp), and p/d thieves. Those fights always end up the same way – I’m loaded with conditions while they run around taking pot shots.
I’ll see what I can do! Usually the problem with wvw solo roaming is finding a fight to begin with. lol
The most funny thing about those vídeos is that they are cherry picked moments of much higher number of deaths.
Not to mention the vídeo itself shows how easily other professions can get away from the Guardian and resume the fight after they have healed back to full.
On the contrary they are moments between the lull in the fighting. why would i show me standing around waiting for some one to come back to home for 2 minutes? You may get wrecked on your guardian all the time but don’t lump every other guardian with yourself. lol What exactly do you think a montage is? Oh well, i guess i gotta satisfy a hater then… if thats even possible. lol

Really guardian is great for organized team play if you know what your doing.
Solo play is less so. With how easy it is to kite a guardian you run into problems.
Really though all the guardian needs is for someone at Anet to do 3 things
1: Work on mace/shield/torch to make them more of a viable option
2: Work on a few of the traits (some are just laughable, some are meh and some you never want to use at all)
3: Consider giving the more offensive weapons (Sword/greatsword/scepter) some form of cripple (so that kiting is not as bad)Mace is amazing…
Actually vs other weapons it’s very meh.
This is especially true in PVE & WvW where standing still can cause you to die very fast.
This causes most people to not want to use it because it requires you and your allies to stand in a symbol for a long period to gain the most benefit from it.Simply cutting the duration of symbol of faith in half but doubling the effect per pulse would get rid of this problem without causing major problems in terms of balance.
The torch & shield also have their fair share of problems.
Dude, thats your problem. All you think about is bunker/support. Who said anything about using it for healing? Just because it has healing abilites doesnt tie its role to simple support. Mace is amazing as a dps meditation weapon. All 3 of its skills excel at doing above average dps. I posted a link to a thread for a build i created. Since posting it i have had nothing but positive feed back from it. In-game with whispers or letters, on youtube even through email. I make my builds through actual combat usage not crunching numbers. The build is great as it is now but the ascended version which I havent released is a vastly superior in terms of stats. Just because :you dont know what you are doing doesnt make it inferior because its not in any way.
Actually I do know what I’m doing and have tried your build.
While it is quite nice it falls behind some other builds that use the greatsword or sword in terms of raw DPS.
If anything my suggestion would make your build better. The overall DPS would not be changed but the burst potential would go up.
I don’t think you do. Because you took my build probably switched mace for sword. In turn you changed writ or exaltation/persistence for something else because mace is only good for healing support that you have to stand in for a few seconds to get. Then you switched rune or strength for travelers/speed because guardians mobility is so non-existent. Did you change two of the sigils to energy as well? lol What about the 2 points in Zeal? Take one out and put it into honor because you felt it needed protection and might because you couldn’t get enough stacks with sword/focus?
Your full blown zerker going down precision, crit damage and power traitlines may do a bit more dps by base stats than mine, but when mine uses 20+ stacks which it was created to do. I’m not sure about that. Guardian has the potential to have the best dps build in the game. The idea that guardian has to sacrifice any survivability it has to do decent damage is completely false and I intend to prove that with the ascended version which has already been created. I have not shown it yet because I want to create a video showcasing it and for that I need the gear.
Bursting is simply high damage in a small amount of time which this build is VERY good at doing. Provided you are using GS, Mace/Focus. Thank You for the pro advice, will definitely improve the build.
