WvW rank pips

in WvW

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

IMO you can’t compare 13 LI with 5 pips.
You should compare something like 13 LI with 10 pips or 5 LI with 5 pips.

I’m not comparing 13 insights with 5 pips, I comparing game modes and the time it takes to max out the weekly currency for each. For wvw, it’s 365 skirmish tickets. Pips are just an incremental reference for earning them.

I know how long it takes to clear all of the raids and how painful it can be to pug it or learn it from scratch.
I also know how long it takes to finish earning the max weekly currency from wvw. Some of us have spent infinitely more time learning to excel at wvw than most people have even spent in the raid instances.

I get that a lot of people consider the raids “advanced” content. It may require coordination/sufficient dps, but it is static content, which is why my friends and I find the raids so easy to do. 4 to 6 hours a week. Bosses can be killed in 5 minutes.

It still takes 2x to 4x as much time to finish diamond every week.
I don’t PvP, so I don’t know how long it takes them to max their currency every week.

Edit: also, the number of pips earned do not impact how fast you earn wvw ranks. That hasn’t changed. The only thing pips are a reference for is how fast you will earn the skirmish tickets.

WvW rank pips

in WvW

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

At this point, it’s about how long it takes to earn the reward.

For legendary armor paths:
Raids = max weekly insights takes 4 to 6 hours a week.
PvP = I don’t do this, someone else will have to answer this.
WvW = at 5 pips, max skirmish tickets takes 24 hours a week.
5 pips is pretty standard; last place is 3, 1 for previous week credit, 1 if you’re at least bronze.

The disparity is pretty obvious.

Is WvW really only about numbers?

in WvW

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

I keep seeing references in threads to WvW being a game mode based around epic, large scale battles.

Epic, large scale in wvw means the blob of 50-70 is attacking a tower with 0-20 people in it.

Occasionally, when there are no PvDoor events going, moderate sized blobs face off against each other. When they do, the larger blob nearly always wins because it lags so bad that each side is only auto-attacking. You can be on the other side of the map, and when two zergs are in SMC, the skill lag prevents any skill usage or comes with a 5+ second delay.

I remember how the biggest wvw problem year one was culling. With the changes to culling at the end of the first year, skill lag became the biggest issue. 4 years later, skill lag still persists, even in T4.

An issue and question in regards to Daredevil

in Thief

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

Thief has a lot of broken mechanics atm, that will likely never be addressed. The damage from Bound is higher than a lot of skills and abilities in the game. Although not the only class with damaging avoidance mechanics, there is no reason dodging should deal direct aoe damage (or any damage at all).

Just like it makes no sense that thieves (or any class) can start their spike on a downed player and use other abilities while casting it. Spiking a player should be all or nothing. Not, start spike, teleport away to continue your cast from 600 away safely, than port back as the spike finishes to kill the player. Or rangers using signet of stone during, or engineers using elixir S. So many things that need to be fixed.

In PoF, What Reward Does UnID Gear Replace?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

As several have said, it is both space saving and a gold sink. The unidentified item could be basic garbage or a precursor…you won’t know until it’s ID’d. But, taking my example of over 5,000 hours played and no precursor, if I start ID’ing all that gear (hoping to finally get one), I just lose money, cause the items are barely worth more than the cost of ID’ing.

Here is something to note: it is silly for loot to be one way in the expansion and different in the core game. Which means, if this is the route they are going, they will be changing core Tyria’s loot to be on the same system. All of the named exotics will increase in price tenfold.

Dislikes:

Unindentified gear: I get the gold sink; I get the space saving idea; it’s current implemention is a hassle and just going to lose players. Would be less bothersome if loot was sorted by rarity like the black lion chests (exotic unid., rare unid., and everything else unid.) Although, I am not a fan of reimplementing unidentified loot.

They allow them now. They are not enforcing the policies they have written even if they weren’t allowed. I have had people whisper me and comment on my gear because the meter they are using not only shows dps, but every item you have equipped, inlcuding runes and sigils.

Certain other regions of the game allow these things. They are not allowed here, but Anet doesn’t really care at this point.

Sublime Conversion vs Primal Burst

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ubi.4136

Yeah, since the druid conversion shield isn’t blocking, there is no reason the signet should matter. The shield is supposed to convert projectiles into heals, and this isn’t happening. I tested it a couple times, and it goes right through the conversion shield every time.

The last time it killed me, gun glame went through both sublime conversion and wall of reflection (from Guardian) and still hit me for damage instead of healing me or being reflected.

Squad bullying

Ubi.4136

I’m on TC and we see some groups that refuse you if you can’t join voice. I understand the reasons, and when the commander has that requirement I just do something else.
I’m usually scouting/refreshing siege/responding to callouts/trebbing even if in raid, so no big deal.

Voice is fast and efficient and allows combat while talking.

This is not an option for everyone. Personally, I have a toddler and due to said toddler do not have a headset anymore (and can’t afford a new one). So, any voice chat for me has to be speakers with no mic. Most voice chats are not toddler friendly (they are sponges and will repeat everything they hear) and at night, since she is a light sleeper, it still doesn’t work. The chair making a creaking sound wakes her, and then she is less than pleasant.

You can always just follow the tag without being in raid. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Catmander tag

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SO, people who already have a commander tag it costs 150g. Those people already spent 300g to become a commander.

So, current commanders=450g to get the catmander tag total.

People who do not currently have tags it costs 300g.

So, new commanders get to be commanders and get the catmander tag for 300g total.

How the hell does this make any sense?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s a pretty simple answer.
HoT masteries are what unlocked the ability to earn core Tyria masteries, and through such, autoloot.
PoF masteries will work the same way, no reason for them to change the coding. Access to PoF masteries will grant the ability to earn core Tyria masteries.
The ability to autoloot is a core Tyria mastery, meaning that the Provision Master track is tied to it.

Owning PoF, but not HoT, will 99.99% chance grant you access to Provision Master trait in WvW. It may have it’s own track that includes PoF recipes and not HoT, but the trait will be about the same.

They won’t. It has to stay as it is to sell the expansions. Each expacs elite will be slightly more powerful to sell it.

Aside from that, the expacs will each have a single unique feature (non-overlapping) so that future sales of them can happen.

HoT – gliding
PoF – mounts
3rd expansion – likely customizable home instance (that’s my guess).

Purchasing an expansion gives access to masteries, so really, any expac should give the ability to earn autoloot.

I am Asura. Neither I, as the PC, nor most of my race would join the Shining Blade…ever (and 99.99% sure would never be allowed to in GW1).

Someone at Anet decided to write the story as if this was GW1 (I get the throwback attempt that is going on with the run into Elona for PoF). GW1 only had playable humans…I get it. This is horribly written for GW2 where there are 5 playable races, 4 of whom are NOT human.

With regards to the “magic bomb” people are talking about. I think I would just go stand next to the leader of the Shining Blade with someone who doesn’t have the clearance to know about it and tell them the secrets. That’ll show ’em.

Balthasar going in with all the forged blazing would be most likely perceived by Joko as a threat and by thus I’d assume he ould respond with force, and wouldn’t mind us joining in – the question is tho – if we would want to ally with him.

Certainly I’d not :P

I am happy it’s going to be PvE expansion.

for a “PvE expansion” I must say it introduce an awfull lot of PvP elite specs – we can only imagine what influence on WvW and sPvP will these have….

WvW
-Deadeye – it will be ridiculously OP/broken
-Holosmith – the dawn of the suicide bomber; people will charge up and run in to enemy groups to detonate (I’m calling it now)
-Spellbreaker – the aoe silence on warrior will be horribly broken
-Scourge – some people will try it and realize that standing still means you already died; successful blobs tend to walk in a circle like Nascar

PvP
-the only place Mirage might get used, it’s the same crap dps we have with scepter just new animations; can’t be used with shield (Chrono) – likely will never be used by 95% of the playerbase

Those are my current guesses.

One big question I have about this new hall is, what about players that don’t buy the new expansion? Like with the old one, players who didn’t buy HoT couldn’t use the HoT Guild Hall features. But lets say you have a guild were 95% buy the expansion and 5% don’t. They can use the current HoT hall, but presumably they wouldn’t be able to access the new hall, so if you switched, they would lose functionality in the process. Is there some plan in place to resolve this? Will HoT-only players be able to access the new hall?

I’m sure you’ll be able to enter the hall, just like non-HoT players can enter the HoT halls. You just won’t be able to use it’s features. No reason it would change.

I think some of you are missing the core concept at the heart of the OP. they are disappointed with the fact that there are no major changes for other parts of the game coming with the xpac. this has nothing to do with them wanting an xpac based on those areas, or even the way in which anet releases content for those areas.

content updates for said areas of the game would make the xpac more alluring for other players I think is what the OP is trying to say. I would agree if this were the case.

I don’t see the difference … historically, Anet made changes to those other parts of the game exclusively OUTSIDE of the first expansion … the reasonable person would expect the same for the next.

Nerfing the dungeon drops and than abandoning that content is not really an “update”.
