But can I then salvage the insignia out of it for converting ascended armor?

They are now up to 10g a piece.
This is insane.

All thanks to the WvW update. Maguuma Lillies spiked also pretty high

If only they could move WvW into Draconis Mons

They should totally make a WvW copy of the Draconis Mons map.
Totally epic, allow gliding and the use of gliding skills from Bloodstone Fen so we can dogfight.

LWS 3 Trinket farm too grindy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

The issue is RNG on the nodes. I actually had a day where I did EVERY node in Ember Bay and got 1 (one) petrified log. 1 log from harvesting every single stump in the zone is not just bad RNG but bad design (yes I run with the gathering guild boost).

That said, the grind isn’t bad. You can get an amulet and ring from Draconis-not painful. You can get a backpiece, ring, and accessory from Bitterfrost-stupidly easy. You can infuse the rings so getting 2 from one zone is doable (1 infused, 1 not-still unique items) The only reason to do any zone other than Draconis and Bitterfrost is for a second accessory and unbound magic.

….

The term “ANET logic” is defined as “an action or decision that accomplishes a goal that either doesn’t fix the underlying issue, and/or overcompensates to create the exact same problem in another area of the game”. Their design process is plagued with blind spots that even players are quick to figure out; and many of their attempted remedies fail to understand an underlying problem… often making the situation worse in the long term. A series of small scale solutions being applied to a systemic issue, and inevitably exacerbates the underlying cause to cartoonish proportions.

AFK farming is NOT the actual problem….. its the fact that there is a glaring disparity between demand generation and source generation. And rather make adjustments to either, they opted to insert a Farm that was too difficult to use as a farm, not engaging enough to be worth doing in its own right, and were upset when players discovered a more effective, if lesser version of what they designed…… then killed it, rather then learning something critical about why the AFK farm developed in the first place. The leather farm was flawed on several levels, and directly violates a number of key design points within GW2’s philosophy….. it literally fights the game to get the players to do one specific thing, and the players are keenly aware of it. The groups don’t naturally coalesce because of how the gauntlet was designed, and actively expects players to do the opposite of what a gauntlet is designed to do- and the only way to work around that is have a Commander surrogate for a point of focus, that would normally be done by a map event. It lacks a clear goal to build and release tension that makes for an engaging event; leaving nothing for the players to be easily swept up in and have fun while doing the farm. Thats why the AFK farm went AFK….. the only interesting thing to happen is Imellhoof (aka AFK Check)- and hes on a 2 hour timer.

This sums it up pretty well, although I wouldn’t use the term AFK farming, because most of the engineers farming there were not “away from keyboard”.

QoL: Necromancer Minion heals outside combat?

I think part of this change was to help curb all the AFK necros making us look bad (like all over Bitterfrost Frontier – who are just going to get us nerfed more).

That said, I never have issues with longevity on them. But, you can swap a minion skill out which will remove it from the world. Then put the skill back on and immediately redeploy it. I do this while running from place to place, as I regularly swap the run speed signet and one of my minions for travelling.

I tested theDoric Turret Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ubi.4136

Thought with all the talk I would take the engie from the jump puzzle chest I camp to try it out for the first time. Basically, there are 2 groups of people out here farming: the non-afk players and the macro users (who are AFK).

There is no way to just place turrets, go to the store, mow your lawn, make dinner and come back to tons of loot unless you are botting (or using macros). Turrets last 3 minutes (or less if destroyed-which is very often) then need to be replaced. This isn’t nearly as bad as the people who AFK with their pet class for weeks at a time collecting loot.

In order to really get anything, you have to be playing your character (and have high magic find-I ran with 386%). I placed turrets where everyone has them and put the mortar on so I could just spam the 1500 range skills. In 3 hours I got a bunch of random crap that everything all over Tyria drops and 250 heavy supply bags (which I haven’t opened yet).. Mostly, a bunch of us chatted while tagging mobs and I watched a movie on the second monitor (but I always have a movie going even when leveling characters or doing map completion).

AB multiloot was a much better moneymaking venture. Still, not a bad way to chill/chat with other players/make some loot.

Why “bring back” the trinity? Why not try to stay original and don’t?

The problem is they have brought it back already. We are just in limbo in the half ass trinity they have given us. They wanted a game that didn’t have the trinity, then added content/skill/balance issues that essentially give us a really bad version of it.

Ubi.4136

The problem I see is the Anet wanted to remove the trinity for GW2. They did. Since launch they have slowly added a kittenized version back in to the game that is making things more unbalanced. Even for PvE, creating a fight that basically involves dying and respawning isn’t a challenging fight…it’s poor design, and I rarely die in PvE but there are encounters that almost require it.

I honestly feel that this game could be better and adding tanks and primary healers would be a good way to do that (not that they ever will). I get that each class has some utility and heals (so they can claim everyone can do everything) but they aren’t equal and the game is getting further and further away from being balanced.

tl:dr give me my monk back

Jumping Puzzles are getting out of hand

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tying achievements to certain JP’s has become a near game ender for me.

They should add flavor and challenge those who want to try them, like raids, fractals, and dungeons, not be mandatory to finish a general “map quest.”

There are achievements for every game mode you just mentioned. Also, there are no points of interest, vistas, hero challenges, or waypoints at the end of jump puzzles. Map completion can be done without finishing any jump puzzle.

The new living season maps may seem like jump puzzles by design, but the actual jump puzzles on those maps are not required for completion of the map and rewards.

Ubi.4136

I recently removed several alts from the world and have replaced them with suitable facsimiles. I am now working on map exploration for those toons and to level the last one (ran out of tomes). I am seeing more people now running around the zones then I did 3 years ago, and more than at HoT launch.

Not just veterans like me making another alt, but new players who can’t find stuff on the map, or don’t know how to get to places (vistas, POI’s , etc). I get that we play on a megaserver for every map, but there are a lot more people than I have seen in years doing map completion.

Used to be I could run the whole world map and maybe come across a few people doing some events. Now I am running into 2 to 5 people (or more) at every HP, POI, Vista.

Maybe raids are a ghost town (since I’m not doing that atm) or some guilds are suffering a hiatus, but I have seen tons of people on every map from core all the way through DS these past two weeks.

Cowboy Outfit and Medium Armor revolution.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ubi.4136

Ubi.4136

Do you want to know why 99% of the armor looks the way it does? If so, ask yourself the following questions:

Does the game have a gem store?
Do they sell costumes in the gem store?

If you answered yes to both of these questions, you now know why most of the armor in game looks the way it does. Medium armor is just an example. The armor sets, especially for trenchcoats, are nearly identical with names and minor details changed.
If you want to look nice (or different) you have to BUY a costume.

I loved the style in GW1, but have really been turned off by almost everything in GW2 (armors that is). I am currently rocking Taimi’s costume because it does look pretty good, seems like something an Asura would wear and, since I only play the master Asura race, all my toons are in it.

The only real /ugh moment was the thief who I made the first day. Was done with everything, had all bag slots open, that one kind of smarted.

Auto cast 1 does NOT keep casting when being attacked without a 3rd party program selecting targets to attack. The default auto attack is skill 1 (even for ele).

1. auto attack default set to skill 1
2. place character in an area advantageous to you
3. walk away from computer

A GM is never going to whisper you, because you died to the first mob that attacked you. If you didn’t die to the first mob that attacked you, you are using a 3rd party program to target, in which case you can be actioned.

But let’s say for Arguments Sake that in this Fictional Scenario the Fictional Elementalist does not die easily and does not use a 3rd party Program . . .

There is nothing wrong with what the Dev. said. I did not find any part of it confusing, neither did my wife. I get that you made a poor choice (in your purely fictional scenario) and got a suspension (personally I wish all those suspensions were bans), but coming on the forums and telling everyone that offers a counter they’re wrong isn’t going to change anything.

I just tested the auto attack skill 1 on every class. Put myself in a place mobs spawn and let mobs hit me. At no point, since I was not touching the keyboard or mouse, did my character target and attack a mob after being hit. Every class stood there and died except the ranger, whose pet popped out and killed the mob (I got no drop). The auto attack doesn’t work that way. So, there is no way the games built in auto attack feature could, by default, trigger unattended gameplay and a suspension.

The players who are AFK farming (whether by pets or 3rd party tools) KNOW they are. Going to the bathroom and and coming back 3 minutes later to a drop or two because you are a pet class and your pet killed something will not get you actioned. Setting up your character to get you drops for extended periods of time while you go to work/sleep/mow the lawn/play Xbox, etc is actionable.
There is no grey area here…and nothing confusing about what is actionable and what isn’t.

I would venture to say all their money (aside from sales of the expansions) comes from the gem store. The gem store is not tied to a “game style”. So this isn’t about “doing stuff” for PVE and not PVP (or any other combination of game styles). They make changes based on what direction they are trying to push the game. And, the money to pay for that comes from every player across every game type that uses the gem store.

What a legitimate in-game dps meter would allow the rest of us to do is:

1. improve our personal numbers
2. work on rotations and builds
3. (MOST IMPORTANT) let us show them the class balance issues the game has

There is no reason that a daredevil spamming staff auto 1 should out dps 6 other classes no matter what build they bring using every skill they can.

Equipment previews-not needed

Also, I can safely assume you have done the story line and collected bloodstone, or else you wouldn’t be this far.

You DO realize that the exposure to bloodstone causes insanity in most of it’s victims.

Maybe the guy ISN’T changing. You just think he is because you are going INSANE.

You are more interested in saying Anet is at fault for breaking immersion. I have taken to the idea that everything you describe actually improves immersion and makes the game more interesting.

All I can see is that you’re constantly avoiding the actual topic and still can’t accept it being Anet’s fault. I’ve been criticizing it, giving Anet the chance to fix it.

Herein lies the problem.

Fault = yes, they intentionally programmed it that way.

You’re criticizing it = something you’re entitled to do.

Giving them a chance to fix it = assumes something done intentionally is broken.

The fact you don’t like the NPC changing when you change maps or login or out, is NOT proof it is broken. It is your opinion.

Edit: in my opinion raids were a horrible idea and they should not add anymore to the game. That is NOT proof that they were a bad idea or not working as intended. I just don’t think they should have added them.

There really is no problem (or spoon).

Develepor A coded NPC #325 to be human, female, set hair, etc. – always looks like that.

Develepor B (who is really into the whole Living World idea) coded NPC #1876 to have varying stats when the map is loaded. They may be better at their job than Develepor A or have a different idea how the world should look/change.

Dev A may just like a certain character look and wanted it to be permanent.

You are trying to turn this into a “sky is falling” and “everything is broken and ruins my immersion” thing.

Everyone has some form of OCD (some mild, some not so much). This seems to be something that affects you deeply, but is not bothering the rest of us. There is nothing wrong with an NPC changing when you change maps or log in or out.

That said: if you can upload a video to youtube that shows the NPC actively changing “while you are looking at it/interacting with it” without ever leaving the map…I would concede that it is likely a bug/oversight.
