The problem is not the money, we all have the money to get HoT. The problem is that Anet hasn’t given us any indication that we will be getting our money’s worth. Hows is that so hard to understand. If you believe you are geting 50$ worth of stuff with HoT than good for you. Some of us value our hard earned money quite a bit more and aren’t willing to just throw it at a sub par xpac just because Anet said it was worth it.

They put up this fight for something they were going to get eventually anyway, and now they’re stuck without option.

If you were not going to buy it anyway, you wouldn’t be here raging. You would have said, simply, “That’s too rich for me, I’m moving on.” And you would have moved on.

The first thing that tipped me off that you aren’t well equipped for this kind of argument is using the term “entitled generation”. That aside, most people aren’t angry that new people are getting something for free (the core game) and the veteran players are not. The problem is that the new players are at least getting their $50 worth. The original price of the game was about $60 on release, and being out this long, obviously the price would have gone down. Crazy $10 weekends aside, this game would probably run about $35-$40 at most retailers. Add to that an expansion that so far looks to cover about 15-20% of the core game’s map (The Maguuma is not that big of an area), we can’t assume, even with the idea that the maps will be HUGE in a vertical kind of way, that this expac will really make the game that much bigger. A new class and some neat little things like hang gliders, maybe, but overall not a huge addition. At best we’re looking at a $30 expansion. MAYBE $40. (The expansion for GW1 was $35 at launch I believe, and had quite a lot of things worth paying for, but I’ll go out on a limb and say that this expansion will have a price adjustment based on some very mild inflation and the fact that we have a z axis) So, basically, $35-$40 for the core game and $35-$40 fore the expansion, that’d make the whole thing about $80.
BUT!!!The core game isn’t in question. It’s a GIFT! Therefore NO ONE should pay the $40 for the core. EVERYONE should pay $40 for JUST the expac. I’d be cool with that. Happier with $35, but I’d suck it up for another $5. But $50 is just too much. For anyone, new or old.

I meanwhile will probably just continue what it is I’ve already been doing (which is the Ascended Treadmill), maybe save up gold/IRL money for a character slot for a Revenant and kitten around in pvp as a reaper necro. But man, we aren’t even getting a 6th race when Tengu can use the Charr skeleton mesh for armors and have been around pretty prominently (at least compared to the others)…

Would rather Tengu or whatever race they add in eventually is worked on eventually and has a nice storyline to it.
Races aren’t really a big worry to me personally atm……………………………………………………………because I pick Human everytime in every game.

But all that aside, day one, I had a great time and when I found out about it, they said to email support because they, and others, had been given discounts or even refunds for buying the game that WEEK, let alone that day, so I emailed support and got the emails above.

Today, A new player asked about it dropping in price and other players were citing “reddit” as a source of information, saying a GM posted there saying that anybody who got the game recently would get either a full package or a large discount depending on the time owning the game. I cited the reply email from sparrow above, and was barraged with insults:

“Get out, Nobody wants you”
“Leave then, nobody will care if you’re gone”
“Kill yourself”
“Cancer like you needs to just get out of our game spreading rumors”

So, my question is, ALL of the HoT junk aside…are most of the players like ^ that?

Or is that kind of a “Freak accident” kind of situation?

Everything else aside, I’m loving the gameplay, hope to see you around and have fun.

Ps. Friendly reminder: If a new player isn’t sure about something, don’t beat them down and verbally abuse them for it. Just because you’ve been playing for 2 years doesn’t mean EVERYBODY knows or understands.

Pss. Also, it’s fine to disagree with somebody on the HoT’s Debate, but just because you disagree doesn’t give you the right to be rude and insult them. Keep that in mind.

This is the most pathetic I have ever seen this community. In my 9 years playing the Guild Wars series, this stands as the worst I have ever felt ashamed to be apart of it.

They’ve been working on this expansion likely since the first 6 months of release.
Expansions nowadays are around 40-50 dollars. Warlords of Draenor was 50 bucks, about 75 if you pre-ordered it for a mount.

Areananet have always been a company that bundles their older content with the new releases so new players always have a chance to enjoy it the same as we do. This is nothing new.
If they didn’t do this THEY WOULD EARN MORE MONEY FROM NEW CUSTOMERS WANTING TO START. They are LOSING potential money from this because they believe everyone should be able to enjoy a game equally, at least the chance to.

You people complain because you don’t get a character slot? You complain because it costs 50 instead of 40? Guild Wars 2 is a AAA game. One of the top MMO’s of today.
You have not had to pay a single cent since the day you bought the core game. And you want to complain because they give new players a treat? Because someone else gets something for free and you don’t because you already have it?
IT DOES NOT AFFECT YOU IN ANYWAY AT ALL. So why are you crying? Why all this rage? It’s so childish and shameful.

Part of me thinks a sub fee and no more free content would be a good thing. The no sub fee and free living story upgrades made this community one of the most entitled ungrateful lots ever.

Are you Piken Square or Tarnished Coast? Because I can promise you that roleplayers on Piken Square are certainly not cliquey. I can’t say for certain about Tarnished Coast, since I’m not on there.

Also, I would recommend to anyone who is struggling to find RP simply first of all, ask politely in map chat if there are any RP guilds (in Piken Square at least, nobody will bite your head off) and also try joining http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com if you haven’t already done so, as there’s an RP guild directory.

About 15 minutes ago, two people came into map chat saying “wow, so many RPers!” as they had just joined Piken Square for WvW reasons. We welcomed them with open arms.

I’m on Tarnished Coast.
And yeah that sounds a bit different than how it is here.

Honestly, that’s a silly excuse to seem so closed off and cliquish.
These things happen in quite literally every MMO ever. Trolls will be trolls. And many games do not support RP.
But those communities even do not close off themselves to /other rpers/.
Things like that kill off RP communities more so than the trolls that you can ignore. :/

There are actually quite an abundance of them out there.
They just seem to be getting rarer as the days go by.

Even after all these years the roleplay crowd is still super closed off and cliquey.
Why?
It feels like it’s the worst on this game compared to others where you can easily jump into RP.
But the RP community on here feels cliquey, closed off, and generally unwelcoming to anyone not already in their circle.
I’ve been in a few RP guilds and even then they still feel unwelcoming.
What is up with that?

This is not my point… Guildwars 2 came out in 2012, Skyrim in 2011 and Cataclysm in 2010 – my point is if you choose to sell dragons in a market full of dragons, you better have the best dragons out there…. well we got Zaithan lol. The Vigil is pretty much same thing as the Argent Down, zaithan is basically Lich king and they slaped this copypasta on another Deathwing/Alduin… I bet the other dragons will be as boring as this one. The whole storry has the been there done that feeling. They could save it by stellar storytelling, grim world where NPCs act as if they live in world of impending doom… I mean common!

But Guild Wars 2 was in development longer than those were…
They started the story and developing the game way before they even released that expac and Skyrim.

1. Combat in GW2 is boring and unresponsive most of the time. It’s fast which is fun, but there is way too much auto-attack spam.

2. I really prefer if gathering is sort of contested. If everyone has their own nodes, it takes away emotions (be it satisfaction to get there first or disappointment, when you are too late). Emotions are good.

3. Waypoints are lame. They make the world feel terribly small. I’d prefer mounts.

People still play with auto attack on? Gross.

Also I look at #1 skills as like…a basic sword swing. Makes it seem more realistic in a way.

Mostly cleared maybe. I still remember vanquishing in GW1. Although chasing down the one remaining patrolling enemy should be less of an issue in GW2 since the dungeons are relatively tiny.

WvW is about tactical ability sometimes and not who has the slightly bigger blob. Not that servers have any incentives to win recently.

As someone that has given up on WvW and has been on TC since launch, I disagree.
I quit because the commanders refuse to use tactics and simply push their blobs into the other. I even called this out earlier this week in map chat and people told me(I’m not making this up) “tactics are boring. this is much more fun”

We then proceeded to lose Stonemist Castle.

-Skyhammer is a great and fun map
-Scarlet was a great villain
-Season 1 was much better than Season 2
-WvW should be about tactical thinking, not who has the bigger blob
-Dungeons should be fully cleared in order to receive credit for them
-Commanders should have to go through an IQ test before they are able to buy their tag
-WvW points should be defended
-Zerkers are a liability
