The XP you gain from crafting is scaled. The higher level you are – the more you gain. End result is, that no matter at what level you’ll start, you’ll always gain 10 levels for going from 1 to 400 in a crafting discipline. Nothing was changed to my knowledge.

Long duration stealth? +1 second is all you get from “long duration stealth”.
Even to get that, you sacrifice either power, precision or initiative gain. Not worth it.

I believe you can make that version. You just need level 400 in leatherworking, a lot of ectoplasm as well as other top-tier ingredients, including 30 top-tier fine materials of the type that you need for those specific attributes.

I’d suggest finding someone who’s offering crafting services (sorry, can’t help here, leatherworking at 150 so far) and make deals with them for your set.

Stealth doesn’t make you immune to damage, I usually roast people with my blowtorch when they stealth. If they’re using stealth as an aggressive move rather than to escape, it usually hits them. People aren’t smart enough to flank.

They don’t get the chance. Having a thief as my main, I can easily say that 3 seconds of stealth is barely enough to run to your opponent most of the time, much less – properly flank.
Shadow refuge gives 6 seconds of stealth, but ends as soon as you leave the small stealth-bubble it makes and before you make comments about popping stealth and then shadow refuge on your enemy – you can’t. You get a condition that’s basically stealth withdrawal – you can’t re-enter stealth for a few seconds after exiting it, eliminating the ability to chain-stealth.

Wish we could change the size and color of the backpack.

Actually, guild armor and backpacks are two different things:
Guild armor is a special transmutation stone, comes in heavy, medium and light variants and costs 1g.
Guild backpacks are separate items that equip into the back slot on your character and have the best statistics out of any back item known so far. They cost 1g, 3g or 5g, depending on how good you want them to be. They come in Caretaker, Defender and Assassin variants, depending on what stats you want them to give, though don’t differ in appearance (I think).

Darksiders 2 had decent combat, but the combos would constantly lock you into an animating, removing your ability to dodge while Death takes his time filling out tea drinking forms in the middle of his strike. End result – kitten.

You also realize that it’s perma vigor too right? This is the strongest thing the engineer has right now.

Yeah, let’s just give them baseline perma swiftness and vigor. That sounds fair.

This is great the way it is. This thread on the other hand, is just silly.

Personally, I can’t fit the vigor into my build. I want extra supplies, precise sights and grenadier, leaving me with 10 points to spend as needed – either more toughness or speedy kits. Currently – the plan’s more thoughness, because that means 15% damage boost + range boost to turrets, that don’t require me to spam keys 24 times per minute just to keep up swiftness for that long, to merely make use of my trait.

Not to mention that with a rune of centaur set, we can do the same thing without even using the trait.

And for those of us, who spend the 6 sigil slots on precision and critical damage instead of power and swiftness duration?

And yet, even when you aren’t fighting it’s a pain in the kitten to doubletap every 5 seconds while traveling. In a fight, if you’re using kits, like bombs or nades, then swiftness will be your focus the entire time, while at the same time aiming nades or looking how to trick your opponent into stepping into your mine and thinking where to go yourself. The Engineer already has a high skill-cap. That is fine, but it shouldn’t be annoying at the same time.

Yeah, we have that too – medkit’s 5th skill. Every 20 seconds for 10 seconds. The difference is, that it can’t be a permanent bonus, because the cooldown’s longer then the effect. When cooldown is shorter, or the same as, the effect, then there’s no reason for it to be activated ability, especially when you need 2 keystrokes to reactivate the boost every 5 seconds.

Also, how does sacrificing a third of your attack power to gain speed count as the smallest sacrifice?

I see where you’re coming from. But I must disagree.

You seem to be treating words as though they are simply sounds that we can make. But that is a gross oversimplification. Words also have meanings. Some words, like the ones that have been filtered, have very strong meanings. Meanings that Anet doesn’t want in their forums.

Now, you can argue that switching the F word with kitten doesn’t get rid of the meaning. Which is true to a point. If someone says “go kitten yourself!” we all know it was an unfriendly meaning that was being sent. However, by placing the word kitten in place of the F word, we have also added the feelings of joy and softness that’s usually associated with kittens. As such, the impact of the meaning is not nearly as rough and in fact makes some people start laughing.

But even though it appears that Anet is hiding these words simply because they don’t want feelings to get hurt, that is not the only reason. The words that were censored are vulgar and not nice to look at.

If you want to argue that we humans need to stop getting so offended at things, such as swear words, I don’t think the Guild Wars 2 forums are the best place (nobody really cares). :/

Words don’t have meanings on their own, it is each of our own individual minds that gives them meaning, based on our views, surroundings and language.
Two examples:
1.Gay for some people is a curse, for others a cheerful remark.
2.Chic(sheek), the word meaning “fasionable” and “stylish”, to my Lithuanian ears sounds like “šik”, which in my language basically means “go defecate”. Imagine hearing that in a TV advertisement.

While F is replaced with kitten, our mind still automatically fills in the innormality, with what fits better. The mind is known for filling in the gaps and even adding missing features to complete something that isn’t complete. Seeing “kitten” every time someone is displeased with me, someone else or the game it self, doesn’t bring me any joy associated with kittens, neither does it provide amusement.

I’m not arguing that people should stop being offended, however, I’m arguing that no one should care about that, because that’s their problem – a mirror of their own mind. Also, as for no one cares – I’d still like to see what devs/mods think on the issue.

If you use the first aid kit you can literally get permaswiftness as the #5 kit fills the gaps between switching. Considering swiftness is faster than any passive movement gain other classes get, it seems a fair trade as is.

I just addressed that… Other classes don’t get penalties that engineers do when they equip a kit, and they certainly don’t need to mash buttons every 5 seconds to keep it up.

What does a thief signet have to do with engineers?

Anyone can cherry pick the best option for something from a particular class and compare it to another, some classes will be slightly better then others at certain things.

By this standard, we should make a thread demanding for 100 blades and eviscerate damage.

Then lets demand rangers range.

Oh wait, after that lets make another thread demanding water attuned ele’s cond. removal.

The we can demand thiefs burst damage.

I mean come on. If the best you can do is argue that theif has a signet that gives a speed boost, then what is there to complain about?

You argue that we lose a utility slot? Doesn’t the thief as well? We can chose from a list of kits that are varying and use full and they have to take a very specific signet

The signet comparison was to point out how much more engineers have to sacrifice to gain a boost to speed and the annoyance of trying to keep that boost up.

It’s not cherry-picking the best option for something, it’s a sound comparison. Thieves for instance have a version of the hundred blades, that stuns, does less damage, but can be chained. You could compare those two, but in this case – I’m comparing Engineer’s speed boost to the Thieves’.

Engineers don’t need a rangers’ range, they already have it and more.

Lastly, quit kittening and read the whole thing. Is that too much to ask? Because you’re asking the most ridiculous things “you argue that we lose a utility slot?”, that’s bullkitten. I said that both classes lose a slot, but that’s it for the Thief, while the Engineer loses damage/stat/sigil buffs, as well as having to mash buttons every 5 seconds to keep up the speed.

Frankly, I don’t care if the speed boost gets lowered to 25% or so, as long as it becomes a perma while using a kit. 8% isn’t that much.

Speedy Kits permanence

Because there needs to be some kind of trade off for such an easy access to perma swiftness.

Thieves’ trade off for perma-near-swiftness is the fact that the thing that grants it occupies one utility slot – it’s a signet that gives +25% speed. They aren’t hindered for it in any other way and can use the signet’s active to shadowstep to their opponent.

In contrast, Engineers lose the damage bonus a weapon provides, as well as any weapon-based bonuses, like precision or power and sigil upgrades. The kit also uses up a utility (or healing, if we’re talking medkit) slot and you have to specifically activate it to gain the bonus, every 5 seconds.

If one loses little and the other loses a lot in the same circumstances, then that’s kind of an imbalance. Is it wrong to ask for a little less mindless button-mashing every 5 seconds?

Looking at the Engineer’s traits, under Tools rank10 there’s a trait called “Speedy Kits”. It grants 5 seconds of swiftness, carries a cooldown of 5 seconds and activates once you equip a kit.

Why is it that we need to reequip the kit to gain the bonus, if it’s cooldown is as long as it’s effect? Why not just have it be permanent, as long as you’re carrying a kit? It seems like a hassle to get out of and into a kit to regain the bonus to speed, instead of just having it on all the time.

Since the kits don’t exactly benefit from equipped weapons or gain their bonuses, why would we need to de&re-equip for a boost that offsets this disadvantage, especially after 10 trait points spent to get it?

So, if I’m understanding you correctly, you’re saying that since we humans are already perverted, we should just avoid trying to clean up our speech?

I’m saying that people that are perverted enough to take offence at sequences of sounds shouldn’t be catered for. Yet we see the opposite all over and that’s perverting the perversion even more – teaching people to shun what they shouldn’t be bothered by.

Using euphemisms isn’t cleaning up speech, it’s just temporarily hiding the truth from the shortsighted.

An offensive word will remain offensive, no matter if you look at it innocently.

On the other hand, a kitten will always be kitten.

That’s why I began using “kitten” instead of “offensive words” here on the forums. With time, I suspect, the sound sequence “kitten” will instantly invoke the same reaction as motherF. No matter which word we use, if we tie it to a negative situation it will gain a negative meaning, even kittens are not absolved from this.

Personally, I’m not much of a fan of most signets. They’re very useful for a warrior or a thief, but on the ranger I’d take the Signet of the Wilds and nothing else.

The “mobile turrets” that rangers have are an interesting class mechanic, but can the ranger deploy 5+ pets at once?

Don’t compare the longbow to the rifle. It’s more like axes-pistols, shortbow-rifle, longbow-grenade kit. Grenade kits are as powerful as the longbow, take more skill to use, but deal more damage in an AoE and have the same range (1200-1500w/trait).

Engineers have the best range in the game, or would if the mortar-range-trait got fixed, so I wouldn’t worry about them in that regard.

And yes, you should keep going, I will as well.

They deal a ton of damage and while an oil pot is in place – you can’t melee the gates or use rams, without instant death and loss of resources.

I have never seen a wall getting knocked out and gates take a good long while for 20 people to bring down, even longer when they’re reinforced, especially with 5-10 defenders on the ramparts.

Currently, you can take on 4-5 times more invaders then there are defenders if they’re manning a stronghold with ease. In some cases, 3 people repairing a reinforced gate can hold back 40 people and 2 rams at bay for good 5 minutes before the supplies run out. That’s more then enough time to summon reinforcements, even with that many attackers. There is no need to improve anything.

Invisibility detection

Invisibility barely lasts 3 seconds, 4 with a trait that barely any thief actually gets, instead favoring pure DPS. Shadow Refuge gives 6 seconds of invisibility, but only while you stay in the circle and the downed invisibility lasts for barely 1 second.

Why would you need detection in such cases? It’s very easy to predict where the thief with unstealth – just check under bridges and around corners. Even more so when you can’t reenter stealth for 3 seconds after losing it.

If invisibility lasted for 10 seconds and more, maybe then there would be any actual use and reason for a detection ability.

Actually, ranger’s range is 1200, 1500 with a trait.
Engineer’s grenades have a range of 1200, also 1500 with a trait, but do AoE damage.
Engineer’s mortar has a range of 1400 and two traits that should affect it. Not sure if one does, but the other is currently bugged. The way I see it, is that once the bugs are fixed, the mortar will have 1700-2000 range.

The guardian has a short-ranged AoE with a staff and long-range slow-projectile scepter. Both are good in different situations.

If one thinks engineer dies too often, he shouldn’t try elementalists – they’re even more fragile. As for rangers… it would be a bit more of the same, only with less AoE and less need for personal skill. The pet is about as good as turrets, so the only change there is that the former is mobile and can be healed via self-heals.

My recommendation is to stick with the engineer. It’s much easier to learn the class you already invested time in, then learning something new.

Every profession is good at ranged. Every, single, one.

There is only one profession with limited melee though – engineer. Their only melee option is their tool kit, which isn’t that good of an alternative, because of the abilities it gives.

Also, my advice – try the grenade kit on your engineer. It only costs 1 skillpoint. It’s pretty hard to get used to, but it’s among the strongest weapons in the game.

Final note: there isn’t any profession with “bad” survivability, unless we’re talking about scholar classes, that depend on not getting hit. Engineers have great survivability, rangers get a pet, but otherwise are the same on the survivability scale. Thieves also wear the same armor, but have 5k less HP at max level (that’s a third less). Guardians and warriors wear heavy armor, warrios have the most HP in the game and good DPS, but are boring to play as, while guardians have the lowest HP in the game and medium-low DPS, but have the most healing skills in the game.
