“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
This is really puzzling.
I can get mine to work with no issues.
Windows 7 [64bit] & Firefox 23.0.1
I’ve never come across this issue before.
The Hoelbrak chests seem to be variable, from 0 to 3.
Three days in a row, only a blue from that chest, and shards from every other like chest in the area… tells me that this one isn’t reliable enough to run around to daily, even though I’ll farm the spuds.
Slight correction – there’s 7 different recipes to be learnt at each master crafting NPC, they’re all the same ones when it comes to weapons and armour.
Please also be reminded that ANet in their infinite wisdom decided to let both precursors and legendaries be sold on the TP. Now, to maintain the same metaphor, who’s the idiot salesman who gave that kid a Ferrari without checking if he had a licence? That kid never had to work for it, he just showed up with the desire for one, and the cash.
There are 5 easy to reach chests in Wayfarer Foothills as well (jumping puzzle, 2 Jotun caves, 2 Svanir caves).
I’ve noticed the Jotun chest in the potato farm doesn’t give shards. Strike one from that list.
Does big Z even ‘craft’ weapons? I reckon it’s semantics, you throw stuff into the forge combining elements of a recipe and it’s really no different to discoveries in crafting.
Personally I really hope that the toilet has nothing to do with the final crafting of a pre… too many people with broken hearts and empty wallets already. Leave the forge to the final legendary recipe and be done with it.
While there no pic of an Ascended Spire on the wiki just yet, I have bought the recipe for the spire and learnt it, so when you right-click on the pic in the recipe UI and hit preview, you can see what you’re about to make.
I’ll go so far as to say the wand has slightly more presence about it than the staff does because it’s proportionally slightly bigger than most other wands. Still there’s no way I’d craft it for any of my toons.
Actually no I just checked to make sure.. T1 (green) wood planks still only need 3 logs to craft, as does every other tier in refinement except for soft wood.
I hardly ever visit this section of the forums, and I haven’t read other’s posts about similar. This was none of the above.. it was skill points. Regardless, it doesn’t matter that much, I had plenty of skill points to go around but I’d rather not have wasted 200 on something I didn’t need, and didn’t even think to look twice at.
Hi I was wondering if I could get back my 200 skill points that I just shelled out for an unwanted Bloodstone Shard… I wanted to get an Eldritch Scroll and clicked on it, thinking I had bought the right thing I didn’t even check the confirmation.
I don’t buy stuff from Miyani very often and I’m hoping I can be let off this once for the mistake please.
The precursor for a legendary has always been the easy-mode for a lot of players. Myself I flatly refuse to buy one from the TP because – well, how legendary is that? And keeping with the moral skew, how legendary is it to buy a full weapon from the same place?
We will need a major trading shift to keep precursors rare (those that existed before any patch to make them harder to acquire). As it is right now, precursors are in abundance thanks to gold sellers and gem flippers, even after the stocks of most of the popular precursors had been flushed from people buying them in the last patch (and the insane amount of inflation that came from it). Crafting one and obtaining one (easy mode) is where things could be split – as snoflake said, cost vs time. Whether people want to buy one outright from the TP (the unlegendary way to do it) or sink their time into crafting one of their own for potentially a lot less, as the materials could be gathered and refined, based on using the methods and platforming of the last patch for Ascended weapons.
Getting a legendary should be a challenging thing to do, as ANet would have wanted – it should be an epic journey that makes you feel special about owning one and being proud to have it, and by all means it should NOT BE ABOUT RNG, be it drops in the open world or flushing thousands of gold through the mystic toilet – but unfortunately they made the precursors (and full weapons) available for trade which means that on this very point, they’ve shot themselves in the foot.
After careful consideration, the only thing legendary about legendary weapons, is… well, nothing… except for world completion, which isn’t all that epic anymore. But there’s the epic amount of gold sunk into buying heavy bags for T6 material acquisition if you don’t copiously farm Orrian areas, the epic amount of gold thrown into the forge in vain hopes of that precursor, and now the generosity of ANet for giving up those badges of jumping, requiring no killing of any players in WvW at all. Tell me where exactly did this get ‘legendary’?
Play the way you want, but are you truly worthy of the weapon that you wield? I hope precursor crafting can make us feel that way, even if it’s just me that wants to feel good about owning something that took a monumental amount of time and resources to craft.
sooo i just bought about 20g worth of materials and can easily make a profit if i sell them all back. i was planning on getting to my 500 crafting level but wanted to ask around if the ascended weapons are worth it. are they?
IMHO, if you have either a male norn or a charr as a main and were looking forward to showing off your ascendedness then you might be disappointed. The weapon skins are very quaint and possibly even gothic-inspired, and definitely something I wouldn’t use on anything else but a female character.
On this basis I’d wait until another skin with more flair and a bit less femininity comes along before crafting one. If you’re an altoholic and love giving new weps to your female alts then by all means, knock yourself out. Personally if I wanted to make something that takes the bulk of my wealth to make (even if just to get to 500 in that craft) then I want it to look good and be worthy of my accomplishments. This isn’t a legendary, but it’s the tier of weapons underneath, and that said there isn’t very much going for it in terms of effects, particles, etc. my kind of desirability, but hey, to each their own.
Funny, I did a search for “soft wood” in this forum and got nothing.
ANet, if this is some oversight, please correct it.
I took a look at a preview of a staff and all I can say is … disappoint. Not even any noticeable animation (colour-shift in the middle is next to unnoticeable) and I’ll go so far as to say these skins have been made to appeal to the female side in us, or to go on female characters. I can’t see me putting this on my big male norn but I could see it going on a female human.
This goes for most if not all the first revision of craftable ascended skins.
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this yet, but I found I ran out of soft wood logs when refining into planks quicker than any other wood type, and the reason why is it takes 4 logs to refine rather than 3 like for every other wood type.
Is there a reason behind this? This wood is no easier or harder to get than any other, but I had noticed even before the patch that soft wood planks cost a bit more than even seasoned or hard wood, which are 1-2 tiers above it. I see no reason why soft wood planks should need 4 logs rather than the normal 3 for refinement like every other wood has.
Hehe, no nothing is ever INTENDED, however that doesn’t stop the game from breaking in one or more areas after a patch where it was fine before said patch.
With regards to elonian wine substitution, I know of certain recipes, ie. core → lodestone production, that can still be exectued through use of mystic binding agents instead. If you have to craft some and can’t hold out for the dev’s to fix this pricing issue then the laurel-bought MBA’s would be my tip.
A clarification on Pennry’s post, Artificers will find them in the refinements section (towards the bottom of the refinements list). Again it’s all about convenience, if you have a stack of blue essence you can craft it into green, which can be crafted to yellow and then orange.
The point the dev’s was trying to make with the last patch was they wanted you to take advantage of their generosity because the next patch (the one we have now) would level out the economy.
To my understanding they were catering for a majority of the playerbase, which resides in PvE. Many of the PvE’ers in my server were rather flush with cash after the last patch.
Although I understand where you’re coming from, and that this is supposed to be a game of “play your own way” ie. do what you want to do in the game, this goes against that philosophy. However we shouldn’t be at all surprised considering ANet’s manifesto and it’s shortcomings.
There goes the inflation from last month’s zerging if you’re a regular player. If this is the case it shouldn’t hit you too hard at all.
I’ll have to try the home instance node – I’ve NEVER hit a charged crystal from that node (the occasional 5+1 in a hit), and I hit it the regulation once a day.
I was watching the TP last night, esp. ancient wood planks (logs are only good to get xp from while you can, otherwise the cost of logs isn’t worth it – planks are almost always cheaper) and because there was so many people trading T6 wood I initially had a blank listing screen, like it failed to load. It was just lag at the start, but then I started hitting refresh a number of times and the cost started to rise, and rise…
It was initially ~12s but the more I refreshed the listings the higher the price went… until it was at the last stocks of wood, which were going for between 1g & 3g each, I hit refresh once more and there was no stock of T6 wood. Everything gone.
A few mins later it started to refill with more stock but at a much higher price. When I was looking for lulls in the trade I saw it got down to only 30s or so, but as high as 40s.
How long this spike will last for is anyone’s guess, depending on how long it takes the majority of crafters in the game to reach 500… but if you ever want to see what a spike in trade looks like, check Ancient Wood Plank on gw2spidy.com for a classic example. I’m a bit disappointed that it didn’t show up the last trades of the old stock which were going for (x)g apiece.
….
And now we’ll start to see the inflation from last month’s massive average GW2 player’s wealth gain start to diminish as well.
What’s our definition of ‘poor person’ here – someone who missed out on a month’s worth of content?
We can do this definition once the first ascended materials hit the TP. I’d say it will show that 90% of the population of GW2 will be too poor. The 20-100g they farmed through invasions will be nothing.
I’m not sure about 90%, maybe something like 60% I’d say. Even if people weren’t in this content to farm, there’s no way they couldn’t have made a good chunk of cash by inadvertently playing.
Ferguson there’s one thing you’re NOT short on, and that’s time. Anyone who has that kind of lifestyle (altoholic) would have even taken to calling their PC certain terms of endearment.
OK, so there goes the to hold back the rich people theory. So hold back the poor to make the rich feel special for a while?
Actually I’d like to be shown one poor person in amongst this theory, given that the last patch (even for those who can only invest ~2hrs a day for the month that the content is live) had content that was in the best interests of farmers and inflation, and gold was so freakin easy to make.
What’s our definition of ‘poor person’ here – someone who missed out on a month’s worth of content?
It would need to be something a majority could call ‘reasonable’ to save all of the QQ retaliative topics/posts in the few days after patch release.
As an aside, I’d like to know what kind of materials would be needed for crafting a pre, even if we can’t do it this patch… just so we know what kind of insanity is needed to save these materials.

I haven’t gone through the process myself, yet, but that does raise an interesting point; maybe A-net should implement some sort of non-intrusive guiding system to help players along?
They already have one, as well as an LFG system.
The gw2lfg.com suffices as the stop-gap measure while their own LFG system has finally merged from the too-hard basket to being in the works.
The system used to help players along, in the same pseudo-outsourcing vein, is dulfy.net and she does some of the best guides the MMO world will ever see.
I checked out the dulfy site and saw that the moot / discoball is in for a bit of ‘polish’…
Are you implying that Maguuma is misspelt, or Magumma is?
There’s always been two U’s in Maguuma.

I know it’s not gonna happen, it was more a rhetorical plea. -_-

Crafted precursors should have their own set of legendaries.
That way, people know who the real “legendary” players are and who got their legendary from easy-mode crafting.
Agreed.
Allowing both precursors and full legendaries to be put up on the TP for sale (rich kid / easy mode) – Fail.
Anet said months ago that they’ll continue to monitor the precursor prices and make changes if necessary (this was after the karka-fail event) – Fail.
Myself and quite a few others on my server in particular have all the gifts ready to go, just waiting on that darned precursor. Go easy on us please – we’ve invested a shedload of time and cash into these already.
Indeed, you use the artificing station to craft the Gift of Energy (stacks of the top four tiers of dust), and like I said months ago in a different thread about this, there’s no way to actually see where the Gift of Energy recipe is within the crafting material list.
You have actually bought the recipe from Miyani for the customary 10g, have you not? You need to learn the recipe for it to appear in the Artificer list, and it can be hard to find that’s why I reckon it should be the Legendary purple colour to make it stand out more. When you’re at 400 in any craft, everything turns to ‘junk’ grey colour (simply because you can’t earn any more experience, yet…) and the list gets very long. One item can hide easily in that list.
Once the gift of energy is made at the artificing station, it’s combined with the other two gifts needed with the precursor weapon to created the Legendary at the forge.
Meh, sod it.. I’m gonna farm aetherblades and make some cash and hopefully I’ll get the 25 achieve pts by some lucky twist of fate or buggy game mechanics…
You honestly wouldn’t credit it… I was doing Blazeridge Steppes a few hours ago and just kicking back killing minions, aetherblades and MA alike, and figuring that I wasn’t going to get credit for anything on this map because I made a note of all the maps I had done, and Blazeridge was on it. There was only one that I had doubts about, and that was Fireheart Rise (where I had a disconnect, but managed to rejoin the instance).
Anyway we finish the event, didn’t get to kill Scarlet because we ran out of time as usual, and then I see an achievement pop up on the right side of the screen. I figured I did something that attributed to the daily progress, but no… those elusive 25 achievement points managed to finally show up.
Blind luck, buggy game mechanics, all of the above… but I do hope a dev has a resolve for this soon.

What the farmer wanted, the farmer eventually got. Heaps of ways to make gold to afford luxury items that were originally listed on the TP by either lucky people or gold sellers. Once the market is devoid of all the high end stuff thanks to the ‘newly-rich’ snaffling up the goods, it’s a clean slate upon which to put prices as high as the seller likes, knowing full well from the selling of the previous stock that it won’t last long on the TP.
Baby.1405’s post and attachment is the classic example.
I recall ANet were saying months ago that the prices for these high end items were going to be monitored and intervened with if necessary back when precursors were 300g, but they just kept going up. I know there’s not a lot of people that really care about how they got their legendary (either bought in full from TP, bought precursor, etc.) but to me the only thing legendary about these items is the amount of cash sunk into them. So much for a legendary being about prestige…
I’ve posted this elsewhere, but if you check the wiki there’s actually 7 giants in the game (it doesn’t mention which are hostile or NPC’s) and I’ve also noted that the ‘giants’ in orr need to be declassified as zhaitan minions and made giants for the sake of the giant slayer achieve.
It’s already abundantly clear that title will be the hardest one to max…
I guess it really depends on what you consider to be fun, as it’s a very subjective thing. Me personally I have one of each class, and my ele is my main simply because it’s a ‘next-gen’ gesture of having ele mains in both the Guild Wars’. It’s certainly a skilled class and can deal some of the most epic burst damage if traited and equipped right (scepter/dagger or dual daggers), but survivability can be lacking if you choose to avoid healing in favour of outright damage. Remember ele’s are a scholar/caster class and are naturally soft unless you trait and equip them up to be tanky.
Again, it’s a case of what you want out of the game, how you play it (competitively or PvE or WvW) as to how much fun you get out of it. Personally I like seeing my characters progress but I’m not for competitive stuff so I am taking my time doing each classes’ storylines and farming a bit here and there on the ele to pay for the other toon’s crafting so they can level up a bit easier.
Anyway best of luck with whichever class you choose.
A lot of these forum users have a classic case of ‘scotoma’ (from the dictionary.. [psychol] a mental blind spot; inability to understand or perceive certain matters) or if you’ve seen The Da Vinci Code, “the mind sees what it chooses to see”. A good number of people do that here, going right over the blindingly obvious and throwing their own suggestions in without having read through the essential pieces of information.
Regarding the first birthday presents, I have received all mine (I made 8 characters on the day of release to people who got the headstart). Let’s re-read that again guys… the headstart people get their’s today… everyone else who did not get headstart access will be getting their’s on the 28th if they played from release.
Thankyou kindly.
Would you please link the source of your quoted “essential pieces of information” that we all seem to have missed?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/august-20-2013/
Took me a while to find it… for some reason I thought I saw that link on the forums but it was on the release page instead. The booster is a 24hr one, and Anet now know to fix the information/fact/tip on these.
Still 12/13 completed here, done every map in excess of 5 times over, always in the zone 100% of the time, always complete at least one event per zone, but thanks to farmers we don’t always get to kill Scarlet.
I rarely kill aetherblades or molten alliance unless they’re blocking progress to an adjoining minion area (Gendarran is a good one for this), but then the farmers who started killing minions to progress the event then go on to kill the extras instead of the minions which doesn’t make us get to Scarlet quicker. Effectively it’s divided the forces 50/50 and as more people complete their 13 maps and achievements, the rest of us aren’t going to get to kill Scarlet at the end. Maybe Scarlet needs to be killed, maybe she doesn’t… I’ve heard such mixed responses in map chat with this over a lot of events, and some people don’t get map credit for not killing Scarlet when others do; it feels like such a hodge-podge and there’s a lot of grey area that needs defining.
Seriously what’s it gotta take? I’m at my wit’s end with this and for some reason I really can’t see me getting that 13th map done before the content ends.
I have a similar issue with this achievement, but I have done all maps, some 3 times over. I can’t see which one I’m missing so I’m guessing and hoping it’s the one that I’m doing to get that achieve.
A lot of the maps I’ve noticed you’re doing back-to-back (Fields of Ruin, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, Bloodtide Coast, etc.) are some of the ones I’ve noticed which look like more RNG. The last thing we need is another RNG achievement, please fix it this is getting rather frustrating. All we need is a guide to tell us which maps we’re missing for this and you’ll have a lot of us out of your hair.
My take on it is that we should have been gifted one of the mini’s from their “Set 2” list instead of one commemorative, and not to sound ungrateful, meaningless mini that everyone will have, with no other choice or pool of mini’s to be traded like in GW1. Like many others here, I’ll have 8 account-bound minis which I’ll probably tire of very soon, store them away in the collectibles and look on not-too-fondly in the future. “Oh yeah, I got that mini for the 1st b’day, along with everybody else…”
The exp scrolls however I can put 6 of those to use, as many of my alt’s are under 20. The other scrolls can’t be used and will most likely be deleted. As others here have suggested, and in a few other topics, it should have been a 20 level boost (ie. +20 levels) for people who have alts that are under 80.
The booster needs to have a proper 24hr fact added to the description in line with the info released on 20th of August, to eliminate the confusion and frustration vented on the forums already.

Considering you will be able to arrange stats the way you want in an upcoming patch on legendaries, I’d expect a little more flexibility with these items, and the dev’s are being generous as to let us even do that. I think account-bound would be more agreeable, but stat-change is a huge bonus.
Also don’t get in on the debate of the merits of what is legendary with these items and what isn’t, it’s one that can’t be won. Why did they even decide that putting them up on the TP was a good idea? Not very legendary either.
Hey folks,
We’re still looking into this.
As I mentioned before, there are a few things that MIGHT be affecting your ability to complete these achievements:
- Killing Molten Alliance or pirates does not count towards event credit.
- Killing spawns from the Clockwork part piles does not count towards event credit.
The best bet for getting event completion is going to be taking down the Clockwork champions. They are directly tied to event completion.
Please keep providing details when you fail to receive completion.
Thank you!
If killing neither of those grants anything, then, why the kitten are they in the EVENT in the first place? This has got to be some huge joke. Like seriously, why not save the people doing the event a headache by just wiping the Aetherblades and Molten Alliance from it and just let people kill the clockwork stuff? This is laughable and at best and a poor excuse for an in-game design.
It’s giving people a choice, but it’s also dividing the event completion and ability to kill Scarlet in time. A lot of people who have already gotten their 13 maps completed will only go out to farm those MA and Aetherblade champs for the loot. This in turn has a hand in killing the event completion for the rest of the people who have NOT gotten their achieves yet. I agree it is laughable because it deliberately causes a big rift between necessity for event completion, and greed.
The effective way around this is to make those abovementioned mobs and champions a part of the event credit thus curbing the greed factor. Everyone gets what they want out of the zone. Farmers get the loot, and others get their map completion.
What the event roster also needs (as mentioned already) is a set regularity or a timetable of what is on and when. Given the temporary nature of this update it’s probably too late for that now, but last night I went and did Fields of Ruin, came back, sold stuff, and then saw Fields of Ruin come up a second time. This randomness is quite annoying and doesn’t help anyone, especially the crux of the posters in this thread who are out to get their 13/13 completion done.
How do I feel about the Living World/Story? I feel that this Living World business is doing to Guild Wars 2 what this sinkhole in Louisiana is doing to the town of Bayou Corne.
Why I believe you’ve hit the nail on the head, good sir.
People don’t know what E) is – except the guy above me. ^^
I’m gonna roll with C) because although champs are fun in a zerg, I’m not out there strictly to loot them for their exo drops and cash in on the opportunity. I’ll probably never be one of the exceedingly lucky few that gets a good looking and rare skin early enough to caplitalise on the fact… but also I have a number of alts whom I’m saving stuff for when I get to play them. I already have Cobalt waiting for either my war or guard, and by the way that’s the only decent looking skin I’ve actually had come from one of those champ loots. The others (hammers, GS, etc.) still elude me.
Seas of Sorrows is where it’s at for oceanics, about 85-90% Aussies on the server. There’s Aussies on a fair few other NA servers but SoS is where you want to be for overall Aus population.
You can hotkey to equip/unequip weapons. Maybe they want to show off the weapons?
Hotkeying isn’t the problem for me, my weapon is stowed all the time and I have a hotkey for mine, it’s all the others around me. If they wanted to show off the weps they’d adopt a stance while holding it, but no these are standing ‘idle’ with weapons drawn but relaxed, as you can see in my attachment.
Not sure if it’s just me this is happening to, or if it’s something to do with my settings, but I’ve noticed since the last patch that other characters around me have their weapons drawn while just standing in an idle state.
The screenshot I got was of three people with sunrise, zenith GS and super GS skins, all drawn and not stowed on their backs. I notice that some people with shields have them drawn and carried around now as well, and even people with staves too.
I’ve been through my settings and although I altered the frame limiter to unlimited and the character model and quality both to medium (thanks to the abolition of server-side culling), I can’t find any reason why this would be happening. Other toons I’m looking at are just carrying around weapons unstowed and it made me wonder what exactly happened.
Has anyone else noticed this, or perhaps their character doesn’t auto-stow their weapons? Mine always has it’s stowed automatically, not that I mind looking at unstowed weapons but it just caught my eye yesterday while waiting for an invasion map, and again today.
I too am using the same character for everything, I’ve only disconnected once during Fireheart Rise but I managed to rejoin my party at the end of the event and help beat down Scarlet just enough to get the first part of the fire & frost achieve. Whether this actually counted towards overall 13 map completion I’ve no idea, I didn’t check that out.
I now have the full achieve for fire & frost now so apparently fireheart rise and frostgorge sound should be completed, but going by other’s completion in this thread it seems I might have to keep a close eye on the achievements to verify if all the maps I have to revisit actually will count towards the total maps completed.
Not even a red post yet acknowledging that it’s a legit bug and they are working on fixing it. >_<
C’mon Anet, this is your most recent content, help us out here.
I’m the same, I’ve done a number of zones (8 or 9 so far) but I’m sure I’ve done Mt Maelstrom as well but for some reason one of these isn’t included in the completion. I thought it might have been Fireheart Rise where I crashed and later rejoined to complete the area but I already got the achieve for friend of fire & frost, so that’s telling me that it’s already included.
I can’t be on here at any other times of the day and the ones I’ve already done are being repeated at the same times each day. This doesn’t help anyone who is looking to complete all 13 zones. What are we supposed to do?
