So I’ve tried overflow servers and my home server, both with less than 10 players in each instance. I’ve played at different times over a 6 hour period. Plenty of time for players from around the world to get in on this right?

One may think so, but from what I’m seeing, there’s very few people actually participating in this. What’s the story? I looked at the Dev sticky on Toypocalypse and it doesn’t say anything about a number of player cap for each instance, so what gives?

Wintersday Box - World Drop?

If you mean the Mystery Wintersday Boxes, then no I haven’t seen one drop in the world yet. They’re buyable through the Cashshop/Gemstore, but I tried my luck on 10 and got tonics. Also they say that the boxes have a chance to spawn 1-5 gifts, but I couldn’t do better than 1-2 at most.

For the boxes to drop anywhere in the world, I’m guessing MF would also help because they’re a yellow rarity item. I’m going to spend a few hours farming later to see what actually drops with my MF set on.

Foostivoo is a mini of a baby quaggan, am I right? So, a baby quaggan is already small (the ‘baby’ part covers it) and it’s a mini of that. So by rights, it’s already designed to be small.

I spotted one yesterday, I didn’t see it as being too small TBH.

Serious question for you guys, which method do you use to control movements:

  • WASD (left) and mouse view/control (right), or
  • arrow keys to control all movement

Call me old-fashioned but the last time I used WASD and the mouse was in HL2. I’ve been using the arrow keys since GW1 and kind of gave up on the reliance of the mouse usage. I do understand this is what can hinder the progress within the specified time, as you’re running up the snowflakes as you’re constantly lining up the next move with the arrow keys, but others aren’t used to using the mouse (like me) which is obviously a lot quicker while just holding W and hitting the spacebar occasionally. Something I gotta get used to again with the JP’s.

Why have a wait at all? Is there a wait at Morgan’s Spiral? It’s one of the more challenging JP’s around and I don’t see people waiting to go every 3mins or however long it is. Yes it’s a special event, yes there’s gonna be countless hordes trying to complete the activity… but why have an instanced area with a time wait (even though there’s 3 start platforms) if you have that instance to play in?

Doesn’t make a whole heap of sense to me; yes we’re almost always on the overflow servers (and just yesterday people were complaining to the contrary about this for FotM) but surely not everyone is going to be on that event at one time. If you have problems moving around, also turn post-processing off.

This is quite a slap in the face to all the players in 20+ Fractals. I’d be kitten if I miss my 20 and 30 daily today.

At least you can participate in those dailies, my friend. I’m being trolled so hard by lvl 10 right now. I’ve joked that my character could easily be lvl 20 by now had it not been for the constant disconnects and silly bugs…but now my little joke has become more and more of a supremely frustrating reality.

Do spare a thought for those who haven’t gotten past Lv1 yet. I’m one of the supposed 2% of people that don’t do fractals, although I’d be willing to bet it’s much more. For me, every time I hit an overflow I’m disconnected in one of the fractals. It’s only through my home server that I actually stand a chance of not being d/c’d.

I’m actually in the same boat (not for a GS though), but I do like your way of thinking. I’m not that far behind you actually, just need the Gift of Magic and for Arah to be less broken so I can farm those shards. I’m asking myself why the developers make this crucial bit of the legendary so stupidly hard to acquire… why does there always have to be a catch with the top-notch stuff? It’s taken quite a bit of time to get everything else together and it’s been a tedious task. I’m just hoping the reward will be worth it.

Commanders in PVE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

What do we think of “Commanders” in PvE… this is one astronomically huge can of worms to offer an opener to. But since you asked…

“Daddy? Can I borrow your credit card please?**”…“sure son.. don’t go spending too much on that game.” The ** denotes an optional sign of politeness. From there it just goes downhill.

100g in-game later… oh boy… the King-kitten syndrome really kicked in, and the Dev’s will thank you so much for contributing to their slushfund.

Meanwhile, the blue-dot attitude starts to evolve. People wrongly look up at you for advice and guidance in a game that is only in it’s infancy. I’m not going to drop names here, but I have seen commanders trolling anything from Dynamic Events in Orr (ie. sniping bosses that are the subject of said D/E’s), to deliberately misdirecting people as to where to stand for the 10pts “Find the wrong place to stand” achievement while the Claw of Jormag is active. All because they have the small-man complex and hardly ever see the light of day from being stuck in the basement for too long.

My question is, why did ANet, in all their wisdom, think that the Commander title was such a good idea? Any idiot can splurge 100g on a blue dot that gives them false powers and an attitude that only a Norn could beat out of them.

Ever see a train of NPCs running at you and then see it is a commander bringing them? We have. Ever see someone calling out orders for people to stack on them while doing the Jormag event and see he is standing on the hill attacking while the NPCS die on the ice pillars? We have. There are countless examples … enough that I would never want the icon associated with my own name.

The right to lead should be earned not bought.

That’s the voice of maturity right there, and my hat goes off to you sir.

The problem is that ANet designed the Commander title in the same manner that they designed Legendaries. In the belief that it would take a rather long time to achieve and that the end result would be so much worth the effort. But.. then they veto’d this by making real money transfers able to buy gems and then transfer across to in-game gold, which completely nullified the idea of a title that people would look up to and one that someone who held would respect. I’ve seen some massive game developer brainfarts in my time but this is a corker.

The solution to this is rather simple. I’m guessing maybe 3-5% of commanders would have actually made 100g legitimately – I say legit in the terms of not playing the TP and actually earning 100g for the title they felt the need to wear. In the same manner that this title should have taken a long time to earn, I feel that commanders who wish to put up their blue dots be subjected to a test of sorts… one that can prove honesty & true leadership so they can wear the title with honour and have respect earned, not given/demanded. The dev’s half-baked this idea, I suggest they throw it back into the oven and flesh something out for some proper results to come of it. Because like I said earlier, it only takes someone with some money and a penchant for troll-mindedness to make a ‘commander’… admittedly some are good, but I’ve seen a whole bunch who aren’t.

From a purely ethical standpoint… those who deliberately go out of their way to abuse the title for the sake of nothing but their own amusement should be reported and stripped of their title on top of a minimum 72-hour ban. If it’s good enough for them to abuse such a title, then it’s good enough for them to lose it. “No refunds”. In the end, the sad fact is that ANet is the enabler for such idiocy to occur, and it will take a rather long time for me to have a good deal of faith put back into commanders, especially in PvE.

Why do we have Magic Find?

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

There’s several threads on this topic.

I’ll give you one example why I think MF is a wasted stat.

Farming out in Frostgorge for an hour for Corrupted Lodestones (not the best place for it, but certainly a lot friendlier than in Orrian areas), I have about 90% MF on armour and weapons totalled, without food or boosters. After that hour of farming with others (not in a group) and my weapon still on 25 stacks of MF (sup. sigil of luck = 0.6% per stack so 15%) I have greens as my best drop, a whole heap of blue stuff, and so much junk it’s not even funny. I figure why bother anymore, I’m not even close to where I should be after one hour of farming.

Luckily, Claw-Lag spawns soon after, firing away on the pact bazooka, etc. etc. downed once just before the chest spawned. Nothing great from the chest as usual… but I didn’t happen to notice the luck sigil counter wasn’t active after the event. Not until I started farming grawl for another hour after. Again, not in any groups just farming with another 2 or 3 in the area at the time. I start pulling in the loot:

  • 6 Large Skulls (yellow rarity)
  • 2 Unidentified Dyes
  • 3 Ancient Bones (Tier 6)
  • 5 Elaborate Totems (Tier 6)
  • 4 yellow rarity weapons
  • 9 Locked Black Lion Chests.

By this time I’m wondering what’s going on. My weapon has 0% MF and it’s only what I’m wearing (which isn’t great) which is less MF than when I started. My next step is to go with just my regular no-MF gear and see what kind of results that produces after an hour of farming. Maybe some exotic drops?

My point is, the way MF works now seems like it’s all backward. Not only are you becoming a softer target but you’re not destined for great drops either, no matter what the dev’s want you to think. A lot of farmers just won’t go for MF now because it just doesn’t work as it should. For those of you who are getting better drops by wearing MF gear, I’m sorry but you’re in the minority.

Has anyone caught up on the dungeons forum yet? Perhaps this is why only 2 dungeons are what everyone wants to run, because none of the others will work properly.

The only thing you need in dungeons is the ability to read. The other thing you need is at least half a brain. But if you can read, that covers it.

Every pug group i’ve seen has the party leader asking ‘has everyone done this before?’

The problem is that new players are embarrassed to say they haven’t. So they either lie and say yes. Or they keep quiet. And then screw everything up because they have no idea what to do.

Every big fight can be described in three short sentences or less. You don’t have to be rocket scientists to know not to stand in red circles. Or not melee the boss if you don’t know what he does.

Yet this kind of brain dead behavior is what i encounter in pugs. Which could have been easily prevented if they had just admitted they were new to the instance. When i started dungeon runs, i did them in pugs. I always admitted i didnt know anything. Not once was i kicked. And if i didn’t understand something i always asked. Most people are happy to answer.

Everyone has a fear of being kicked by some elitist in the group and getting called a dumb scrub or a noob. I’ve seen it happen, it’s demoralising for the rest of the team if they don’t have that much more experience. I’ve seen dictator-style direction through dungeons and it really doesn’t work that well if the person leading the way through doesn’t have the patience for the rest of the group. As such, no one wants to own up to not having done a dungeon before, because they don’t want to be the reason that the group fails. They feel like a failure if that’s the case, and it promotes more negativity for the content which is supposed to be fun. Yes it’s challenging content, but we’re let into dungeons at L30 so we can get some exposure to the difficulty (which I believe is amped up a little too much for most casual groups). We all got to learn sometime, if we can’t get into a group, make some mistakes and learn from them, have a few laughs about it at the end… then what fun is there?

Honestly, the worst part of the legendary

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I’m lucky where my legendary doesn’t require lodestones, but 3 x stacks of Crys Dust. Mystic Clovers DO help with T6 mat’s and also some lodestones as well, so it kind of works for any player. Heck I’ve even gotten obby shards and even the odd ecto from the forge from a failed clover recipe. :P

But WvW is a ‘necessary evil’ for any legendary. The higher level and more ‘complete’ your character, the more chance at badges from the EB JP chest. I remember running my Lv3 thief into the JP once and getting a measly 3 badges from the chest. Lame. Level those alts.

But for me, the worst part about legendary is the frkn precursor. My luck sucks both with any chests and the Mystic Toilet. RNG hates me.

Community's Voice: Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I think Arenanet alienated people from some dungeons by:

1) Making them hard, especially supposedly trash mobs – many are brutal. This can be fun but is sometimes horrid – depends on the team, their gear, their level and experience playing their character.

Precisely why I won’t partake in any dungeons, because they’re not designed for newbs or people who don’t have the right gear… if that were the case we’d be allowed to take more people into these dungeons to stand a fair chance. But as it is right now, we don’t really, and people with the limited experience that I have (and I know there’s a lot of you out there) just won’t go near them because they feel like they’re designed for more experienced teams and newbs will get slaughtered in a flash.

If we all had exotic gear throughout and knew what the dungeon was about (and I’m including any pitfalls that experienced players only know about) then it would be so much easier. But as it is, that’s exactly the reason that inexperienced people are being alienated from dungeon groups, particularly explorable mode dungeons, because so many ‘experienced’ players just won’t have the patience or take the time to help the newbs out, unless they’re part of their guild or something.

I’m sorry, but for me it’s creating a negative atmosphere when it need not be, and until the higher level dungeons are brought down a notch (can we say Normal Mode and Hard Mode here?) there will always be a stigma for inexperienced and casual players with these dungeons.

I believe the rewards have already been covered… make tokens available for both modes and more of them for explorable so it’s less of a grind to get the gear you want, or make the gear require less tokens to obtain.

Finally I’ll say that dungeons are supposed to be a challenge, but not at the expense of the fun of the game. Give the inexperienced and casual gamers a bit more impetus to participate in dungeons. We won’t learn a thing from people telling us about them.

Have just finished slaying the Claw of Jormag, but just before he died I encountered a weird audio effect. All of the in-game sounds were nullified by a single pulsing ‘wwuuuuuuww’ sound. The pulse repeats itself after about 1.5secs and the effect is that it fades in and out.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I double-checked the PC speakers or the on-board sound wasn’t at fault, and winamp still plays tunes nicely.

I bumped my Magic Find stat as high as it would go, something like +169% (with booster and food), and as nhalx stated, I had greens for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also higher quality whites like valuable metal scraps, but not a single rare or exotic would drop in the hour I had the MF as high as I could get it.

Regardless of hard facts and game mechanics, I personally think it’s a wasted stat. I’d rather have something stronger and more viable in a high level boss fight for instance, than being someone relegated to the outer and just ranging stuff. I think most people here would actually like to believe that MF does work, but I think the results speak for themselves.

Karka reward chest unfair

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

/sigh just another American thinking the world revolves around him I bet. Everyone should have got the reward whether they did the event or not imo, because the event was implemented in such a way (one-time only) that meant people all over the world could not get involved.

One time events are bad, and designers should feel bad about using them in their games. Designers should hang themselves for putting very grand rewards for participation in events not all players can POSSIBLY attend.

One-time events should be lasting at least a week, so people with jobs and other committments outside Tyria can get in on the fun THEY PAID FOR.

Whole-heartedly agree.

Another Aussie here, who couldn’t get on at whatever ungodly hour it was when they hosted the 3rd phase of the weekend shamozzle (I think it was ~4am), but I’d already screwed up my bodyclock enough by doing the previous 2 phases on the days before. It was Monday morning and I had to work. I am NOT going to sacrifice my job for an online environment, only to get kicked multiple times and have no chest rewarded at the end. Some people don’t know just how fkn good they got it. Seriously guys, get a grip.

Anyway, my post on here was to say thankyou to ANet for coming good on something that I never thought I’d be rewarded for. I don’t regularly keep up with all the other threads and posts on the forums, so I didn’t know this was coming. I got a nice surprise when I looked at the mail when I logged in tonight, the Ancient Karka Chest was sitting there waiting for me. I did manage to get a L78 and L80 rare, a L78 and L80 exotic (one was a named exotic), the accessory and the 20-slot bag, which itself is worth ~13g (by market comparison to other 20-slotters). I am shooting for a precursor as well, but that never showed, regardless of how good the chances are supposed to be with these chests. Still I’m happy that I did get what I got, unlike some here.

So now I have a few extra gold to kick around with, not that I had heaps before, and also a chance at getting ectos from those drops which will help nicely with my clovers. Oh well, back to farming…

Again, thanks for delivering on something that you didn’t have to. Some people would call that honorable, while others here will incessantly complain, just because they don’t have enough to fill their empty lives with.

However I do hope you’ve taken a lesson from the one-time event gubbins… that seriously doesn’t work for all people, your servers can’t handle it and you’ll once again be in damage-control for weeks to placate the rowdy masses. Do as suggested in this thread, make it last for longer than your alloted timescale, like a 24 hour rolling event like you had for GW1. We don’t all live in America, as much as you’d probably wish us all to. Something to keep in mind for next time.

CPU AMD only

Kind of on topic, but can the latest Catalyst drivers (12.10 I think) allow control of video card fans? I haven’t updated my drivers from 12.4 for this very reason, because they won’t support fan control in subsequent versions and I can’t find info on this even on the Catalyst page. I have two independently running GPU’s; one for the main display (HD7870) but I also have a HD4870 which I occasionally use for external video out to an LCD TV only. I can’t control the fan on this video card thanks to the Catalyst versions post-12.4, however GW2 and everything else run perfectly fine without the driver update (or as good as I can get it to run).

This being said, I also have an AMD CPU (FX-8150) and low framerates are part and parcel of the bottlenecking. I’ve tried running it on /affinity 55 (cores 0, 2, 4 & 6) but without a significant improvement. Thanks for any info on the Catalyst driver details though.

Just a follow-up with this, I was just at the Claw of Jormag event (or ClawLag as we like to call it), and as can be expected with a vast amount of dragon-hoppers onboard there’s also a vast amount of lag to be expected. The one thing I can’t understand is the ridiculous amount of rubberbanding going on.

For example, I go for a Pact Bazooka to help with the effort of breaking the ice wall… there’s no point in even reaching for the bazookas because I’m stuck in one spot from the Claw’s fear shout, and here’s me up with the cannons unable to move, regardless of what I try.

Now somehow movement (normally) is unaffected whilst skills and reactions from those skills being executed are the problem. This time I couldn’t get any skills off within about 3-4 minutes after casting them, actions were completely frozen, walking off the spot was a drama in itself – I get 4 steps MAX and I’m back where I started. Subsequently I didn’t get to help out in the Claw’s destruction and thus, you guessed it, no chest.

Can someone please tell me what’s going on, and why this insane amount of rubberbanding during this event.

And yes I have seen the YT vid featuring the poor bugger who spent 280g (back then, about 500g+ worth now) on 1500 rare GS’s and threw them all in the forge in hopes of a precursor. Zommoros didn’t favour him, and that was one costly exercise in the Mystic Toilet.

The makers of the game can’t really handle the reality of what they’ve done before they start something else. If bugs ARE fixed before new content is released and most of your current playerbase is appeased, great for you. But until then it’s the standard PR spin-drier in full gear hyping up everything when they haven’t caught on to the universal fact that realism has subtle undertones of negativity. Get your house in order before you establish new content/bugs or more players (elitist and casual alike) will vote with their feet.

Finish what’s on your plate before going for another helping.

Player Poll: Gen. overview after 3 months?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

1. When did you begin playing? (post bw’s)
25/8/2012

2. how many hours total do you have? (/age)
1000+

3. What’s your most gold banked so far?
33g I think

4. Do you have a max level character?
Just one

5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / TP where you spend most of your time for income.
Straits of Devastation, Frostgorge Sound, Cursed Shores

6. Do you mainly use MF or not?
75% no / 25% yes while farming

7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?
No

8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?
No

9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?
4

10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?
Rule #1 – don’t expect. If it drops it drops, I’ve done all I can to increase my chances.
Having said that, “I would like” perhaps 2 rares and 1 exotic

11. How many lodestones have you looted total so far? (all types)
7

12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
I have crafted in 3 disciplines on my L80, all to 400.

13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
Farming/packrat syndrome.. only the excess goes on the TP.

14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
Not even close. Is this a trick question?

15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
I don’t have one word for this. Soooo much needs improving in this game including ANet’s observance that this is played by people WORLDWIDE, not just in ’merica. Diversity of skins for Legendaries to help bring the price of said weapons down as well, Grouping (get an LFG-dedicated channel going ASAP), bugs, so many bugs… and finally LOOT!! Fix the loot and make me believe that my Magic Find gear is worth the money I invested in it!!! Dungeons need a rework as well, some of those mobs are way too hard for an inexperienced 5-man team.

As of now I’ve played over 1000 hours in-game since launch with one character. I don’t equate any sort of substantial enjoyment to materials things my character’s gotten or wealth they’ve gained. It is simply a game. Taking my time to explore the world, talk and listen to NPCs and learn the lore is what I enjoy. Loosing myself in the world so-to-speak. My character’s been lucky enough to meet and make some great friends whom are like-minded. To me that is true ‘wealth’, to use a somewhat crude term. With all due respect, personally I think your list is very narrow-minded for a ‘general overview’, sorry.

Maybe so, but I think the purpose of this poll is to get general feedback about the state of play in a material-sense.

Daylight Saving. Most states in the US use it, however the majority of the world does not.

The US is not the only country to do DST. Almost all of Europe, Canada, and other northern countries still do it.

Northerner’s… Australia uses it as well.. * whistles *

A more elegant solution would be to have a countdown clock in the monthlies window which is time-zone relevant so none of you screw up next time.

Which CPU for more FPS?

If you’ve got a motherboard that can support Socket1155, then try and fork out more money for it. Games seem to be more dependant on CPU these days

Btw, never get an AMD CPU, there just not what they use to be. AMD have really gone to hell on there motherboards and CPU’s of late and there GPU look to soon be following the trend. Stick with Intel, more money but worth it. Stay away from AMD FX Bulldoxer.. any of them!

When I built a new PC both for my dad and myself, I built him an intel-based rig with an i5-2500k chip while I stuck with my AMD. I saw no real negative reviews on either at the time, so I thought it might be alright to do a bit of a comparison of the two. Since this game supports multi-threading, the more cores the CPU has the better the game should be able to play. Each rig had 8Gb RAM and the only thing separating the two was just the quality of video card (mine is a 2Gb, his is a 1Gb).

I was surprised to find out that his ran the game just as well as mine could. Both are overclockable as well. I won’t go as far as to say his ran it better, but I’ve been building systems for a while now and I have to say in all honesty this was a very close race. Both systems cost about the same amount to purchase as well, but while I’ve had mine running for ~8 months now I know what it’s like in zergs and missing mobs, etc. both systems succumb to the same beast eventually… lag.

It was a number of years ago that AMD touted itself as being the chip for gamers, while intel was a lot more subdued and the difference was their instruction sets, among other things, for how well they handled gaming. I’m talking about maybe 10 years ago.. and clearly quite a lot has changed since intel brought out their i-series chips.

Ongoing Lag..

So.. I’ve been trying to level a new character through some starter zones and when I couldn’t get the same response from my skills as I usually got, I opened up the Resource Meter and found that the ping was… well, pretty much par for the course if you’re living in this area of the world. For those that aren’t Oceanic, please read this as the lag is horrendous. It takes at least an extra second to see what’s going on after you’ve responded to the game (and if your skills actually are being effective), so by the time you’ve caught up with the rest of the fight, it’s pretty much over.
The figures you see in the attachment are standard pings. In this part of the world it’s rare to get anything below 400ms, and if there’s an event going on, forget it. So I’ve noticed that this lag is steadily getting worse while the ping is more or less the same… I shot this screen in the northern parts of Wayfarer Foothills, so not exactly a busy area now.
I’d like to find out what’s going on, as I’m sure if you had this kind of lag you’d find it intolerable too. I also know there’s other topics out there like this, but this is my take on it from a home connection (8Mb/sec) and before anyone interjects with “it’s your connection”, I’ve tried this out at a friend’s house (has a 24Mb/sec connection) and it’s just as bad, with the pings virtually the same.

We want our chance at the event and to have a go at our chance in the rewards for the event, you have driven a big wedge into your Oceanic community.

Mate they did this a long time ago. Now they’ve just exacerbated it.

We’re the minority that ANet doesn’t think is worth the time to read. We’re paying customers also but the reality is I don’t think they can handle the logistical side of an event properly. Highest concurrency is tantamount to having the best times for the servers to fall over and people to whinge and moan they didn’t get to finish the event. I’ve put forth the idea of an Oceanic server since GW1 when I spoke to the ANet mouthpiece of the time, Gaile Gray. I mentioned this to her twice, and both times it’s been fobbed off. I believe it’s a fantastic way to take load off other servers, decrease latency for people in this part of the world and when events are available, they’re on a local server at local times.

The logistics side of things that ANet is worried about is that the server won’t be used, kind of like what happened in the Asian servers in GW before they got merged. I believe right now it’s the Sea of Sorrows which is the unofficial Oceanic server, but it’s still located in NA. As such our pings are way higher than anyone else in the world. When events like the karka come around, it’s almost unplayable from here, if you could get on at all. My info is that people were kicked out once they were d/c’d / culled from servers, and couldn’t get back in. Now what was that about “highest concurrency” again? Take everyone you can until the servers explode?

Summary is this: I think my suggestion bears more thought and deliberation than just “nah we can’t put one down there, it won’t get used…” and never thought of again. The Oceanics will still be around to tell you otherwise.

I do hope you’re not serious. Do you realise how many servers AREN’T in this part of the world, and only serve the ‘merkins and euro’s best? I think some people on these forums need to get a big spoonful of reality and stop pretending it’s all about you, and it’s “oh so easy”. If it were I would have done it by now.

You’re right it shouldn’t, and it’s through no fault of the groups that we play with either. Yet this does happen and with monotonous regularity, to the point I just won’t go near the place without ANet having implemented some sort of fix (and no I’m not talking about a half-arsed one either). Bugs with a workaround are one issue, dungeons not being able to be completed due to those bugs and/or disconnects is really distressing. Depends which fractal you’re doing with a certain number of people, sometimes I’ve seen it take the entire group. But, I haven’t seen all the fractals yet to make a well-informed debate on it yet… why is that, oh yes… because we haven’t gotten off L1, and I’ve only seen about 4 instances of different fractals.

I’m not that surprised by your attitude, you’re more than likely another American in an NA server with no latency issues to speak of. I on the other hand, am half way around the world with pings that would make baby jebus cry. Add to that I’m usually relegated to an overflow server because my home server is usually packed out, and I’m not surprised I d/c as much as I do. But this is not on my end, my connection hardly ever drops. It’s ANet’s issue, it’s already documented in the tech forums.

So yes, it SHOULD be as easy as you say… but the REALITY is that it’s just not as you’d have it. Now tell someone else stuck on L1 that they’re over-exaggerating as well.

All the people having problems finding a group in this thread should group together!

(yes, you can run dungeons cross-server)

Problem solved

Is that so? Then how come when one person from our party is say in an overflow and we try to start the dungeon with 4 in one server and that guy in the overflow, does it only present readiness ticks for 4 players? The 5th guy gets left behind from what I’ve seen, and because there’s no room in the server where the majority of players are, we have to right click his mug and select “Join Party At…” or whatever the option is to change servers. Incidentally I’ve found this is where most of the disconnects happen. Forget Level 5, I want to get off Level 1. Should it be so hard? Even with a decent group we eventually get disconnected.

It’s a fairly tiny difference. And they’re incredibly cheap, 150 tokens is pretty easy to get.

That’s a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who can’t get past Level 1 due to the bugs and disconnects preventing players from finishing a full level.

Not to mention an even bigger slap in the face to anyone who either couldn’t make it in for the karka event or also got d/c’d towards the end. 20-slotter’s were handed out left right and centre, considering that the cheapest equivalent on the TP is ~13g I’d say that’s something that bears thinking about.

That weekend is going to go down as a very large black mark against ANet and a huge wake-up call on how things should be tested before implementation and delivery.

Latencies issues [Merged]

How it looks in WvW: http://youtu.be/bdlqUuGPkXI

Simply cannot be played xD people jumping around, disapearing, getting damage when it should have appeared couple of secs ago… etc… 2 seconds is too much of a delay in WvW.

This is precisely what it’s like to play in Australia. Constant latencies of 450-500ms avg. without any server load (ie. static environment, crafting in a town, etc.) and it gets worse in a major force/zerg in WvW. Latencies have increased anywhere up to 12sec on more than a few occasions. Movement and camera angles are still manageable, but actions get lost in the lag.

I have tested my connection (8Mb/sec) on speedtest.net and a standard ping from my ISP to San Francisco/Berkeley (as an example) is constantly ~230ms which is kitten good for half a world away on a crappy ADSL1-maxed connection. As someone quoted above, the problem lies when the signal has to go through so many servers and gateways, etc. and as such, one lag spike in any part of that path is compounded many times over the further the signal has to travel.

Add in the game mechanisms of say 40-50 people battling it out in WvW and you can understand the screen not only gets very messy but returns about 2-3FPS unless you briefly turn away from the battle. But for me the worst part is when you’re running along with some people to cap a point (say a camp) and enemies come from out of nowhere. You can’t even see them on the screen until they’re on top of you and it’s too late to do anything about it. I can’t tell if this is lag or something else that’s game-related. I know hundreds of other players have the same issues on good connections with way better pings than me, so the only conclusion I can draw is that it’s something unresolved on the game-side.

Crashing

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Well I haven’t posted in this section of the forum before, but I had a similar issue about crashing.

Win7-64
AMD FX-8150 (Zambezi)
16Gb G.Skill Ripjaws RAM
2Gb Sapphire HD7870
Corsair H80 Liquid CPU cooler

As frequently as 10-15mins between crashes, not while doing anything in particular, just randomly at ANY point. Sometimes game would stall/freeze and not even the cursory Ctrl+Alt+Del would do anything, while the speakers rapidly repeated the last sounds of the game before death. Other times it would boot me straight out of the OS and into a soft boot / reset.

While cleaning out my PC the other day (I do this once every 1-2 months, dust kills PC components) I decided to take some hard action. I removed two random chips from the mobo, making it run on 8Gb of RAM. So far, after more than a week of gaming (normal power-ons/shutdowns) it hasn’t faultered one bit. When I have more time later in the week I’ll try the other sticks in the same method to see if I can get it to crash. If it does then I know for 100% certain that it’s faulty RAM. Hopefully more results to come.

What’s your speed like when downloading youtube vids and such? Does it buffer well ahead of the video or are you having to wait for it to catch up? I get this occasionally when there’s heavy ISP load for whatever reason. Could be your ISP, and it’s worthwhile checking it out to rule out the possibility.

As an aside, we’re Australian. Oceanic’s have the most horrendous lag of anywhere else in the world with ANet’s servers too. The latency (also mob invisibility) really bugs me about this game. I can only hope that one day they’ll see Oceanic’s as clients as well, and implement a server nearby.

Who's Ready For Wintersday?

If I could get off the treadmill I might have time for the event… unless part of it is another special one-time-only thing where one part of the world never gets to see it due to bad timing and general inconsiderateness. I hope they learn from their mistakes there and never do that again.

Christmas (as we here in the warmer climates at this time of year call it, it’s never been known as wintersday here) is something to celebrate, something special to be together with family, enjoy the festivities, tradition, etc. which, for me, includes a bit of GW action as well. I just hope by then I can feel that I’ve started achieving something in this game rather than playing catchup with every other hardcore elitist and his dog.

While you’re in the festive mood, look up a vid on Youtube called Six White Boomers. We don’t really relate to your northern wintery melodic fantasies when it comes to carols, though people here who just don’t know/care will sing along blithely anyhow. If you’ve ever spent a Christmas in the southern latitudes before then you’ll be able to relate to this ‘carol’.

Thanks for the compilation. Would highly recommend you stick with the actual plural of gear, which is gear not gears. It always hits me like, How many deers were in the road? The plural of deer is deer and the plural of gear is gear.

Same with sheep, and (arguably) fish. While we’re in the English lesson, ‘a lot’ is clearly two words not one, and ‘thAn’ is to replace ‘thEn’ when discussing one determining factor over another. Just because people type it like they’d say so, it has no clear reflection on commonsense and understanding common spelling. If people cared about their typing as much as they do everything else that bugs the crap out of them in this game, thEn it would be so much easier to understand what one person is trying to extract from their brain through to their fingers. It really does hurt the eyes to see so many people go out of their way to misspell common words like they do.

OK, can we remove or adjust DR now? Some of us with level 80s have only a few places to farm (sarcasm mode) and would prefer to be able to collect mats for crafting without being forced to change zones every hour – its not like we have much choice of level 80 zones.

Change zones? Try just a different spot in the same zone. Some of those places are pretty big.

You don’t even need to do that. Just find a nice cosy place to sit out for 15mins until DR is gone. Think of it as ANet’s new “You have been playing this game for 15 hours. Please get a li… err.. take a break”* message found in the old GW.
