Yeah, screw the people with the worst ping, they can live with it. As long as most of your player base is under 100ms ping you’ll get no complaints from anyone.

This subject has been raised time after time, and no one wants to even weigh in from an Anet stance. It’s quite simple really, we’re just not important enough. Defeatist as it may seem, that’s the hard fact of it. We’re just in the wrong country.

Sure I’ll post some feedback for it completely fall on deaf ears.

Map – waaayyy too vertical, get the deisgners to investigate 3D map references/layouts. Make ALL PoI’s visible on the map layers.
Story end – not enough time to get the final enemy down with the mechanics in place, look at expanding that.
Collection – too many and far too vertical using map-only mechanics to get to some of them. Not my cup of fleas.
Jumping Puzzle… WTF?!?! Seriously do you have Josh Foreman designing this for you? It’s a sadist’s dream.

Ok you can take your ear muffs off now.

What a nightmare.

In 3 words, that could sum up the whole experience. I don’t mind a challenge, but this ventures into ‘frustrating’ territory. Take nothing away from the layout of the map (ie. features, details, etc.) it’s beautifully put together… but why so much verticality?

I’m rather tempted to say… no I WILL say that this map is on par with Tangled Depths for directionality and ease of use to get to objectives. There’s just nothing simple about it. And now, not only do we have to fly places but also use the oakheart essence to get to even further out of the way areas. For me this presents a rather large issue, because it means I can’t just use my arrow keys for directionality anymore. I gotta switch to the mouse (not so difficult for you all that use it already) but I can’t adapt to that method of play as easily.

Further to this, there’s points of interest that are just not viewable on the map. Burial Chamber and Zeta Vault are two such PoI’s. In fact, Zeta Vault and Druid’s Grotto fall in between two layers of the map, so that’s not really fighting fair, Anet.

You had a good thing going before gliding was introduced, now you somehow feel the need to exploit it to the N’th degree. So no, I don’t agree with the way the map is designed, and the sheer verticality of it all.

Here’s a suggestion – if I want to get from A to B, and travel between 3 layers of map, may I suggest that you make a 3D map reference? 2D in this game with gliding having been introduced I feel just doesn’t cut it. This would give the map designers a fair challenge while alleviating stress on many frustrated players like myself who are over the up’s and down’s of navigating maps that are 3D in design, but only represented by a 2D map.

Thanks kindly for the responses Ben and everyone else. It’ll have to be one of those things where I gotta make-do with what I got. When I was in the US last year, although I didn’t do fractals at the time, I noticed everything I did in the game was so much snappier and instantaneous compared to here. You kind of just get used to the inherent delay between continents, and knowing that it’s something that can’t be avoided is a bit of a downer. I haven’t bothered with trying CM yet on any nightmare fractal, as I think I’ll spend most of my time either downed or dead. :P

Yeah that’s kind of what I’m forced to do already. Thankfully, most times I get empathetic groups (esp. for pugs) so they understand that high ping happens. I’ve also tried what you suggested with walking directly into the orbs and hoping the server will see me as being away from them, with limited success. It seems to be a random thing if I do this, determinant upon the ping.

So I realise I’m at a disadvantage first up, being in Australia, and the ping being so horrible (what you US folks would call horrible anyway), but to us 300+ is normal, thanks to so many server hops (gateways) to get to Anet.

The orbs in this fractal don’t play nice with those that can’t predict them — the spatially inept as Arkk says — but for those that can and have a high ping, it still doesn’t play nice as I always get stung by agony (I’m on max AR as well) from those orbs floating outwards. I do everything within my power to avoid them at all costs and somehow I’m still getting the residual agony from them. In my case the blue orbs don’t float out enough.

I’ve read every guide there is about this fractal and its mechanics, and it seems once again I’m stuck behind that dreaded 8-ball. I have even gone so far as to analyse where and when the agony pulses from those orbs, and still there’s not much I can do to pre-empt the agony. I find I die at the central altar (before Siax) probably 8 out of 10 times because the agony just can’t be avoided. When it comes to doing Fractal 100 at Ensolyss (33% stage), I’m dead at about the halfway capture point. Because of this lag I just cannot get the timing right, even when I think it’s right.

I understand there’s a reason the higher tiers of fractals are supposed to be harder, but I really can’t avoid the agony from those orbs any better than what I have done so far. I just don’t want to be a weight that people carry around in my fave challenging content.

Getting guildies to donate to Guild Hall?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

… Maybe it’s because they’re being asked to donate items worth gold that took time to get but they’re not seeing a reciprocal benefit for donating. What benefits do they get? Are the benefits important to them so it’s worth donating to get them? Do they get to decide what the guild builds next?

Here’s the thing, I take them on tours of the hall when they’re introduced to the guild. As a way of saying ’here’s what you get, can we get some help building it so you can enjoy it as much as we do’. If it were still in the starting phases and I were strapped for funds and materials, I’d have no problem getting people to donate what mediocre resources they had to the hall. As it’s currently 39, it is getting harder to get particular resources like superior runes of holding for mine upgrades. These are not cheap items and I’m loathed to ask anyone for financial assistance in the guild. As for deciding what gets built next, I’m not sure they care one way or the other. And that in itself is part of the problem, I’ve gone to this effort of getting the hall to where it is now, and it’s gone largely unappreciated. “If you build it, they will come”… sounds familiar right, well even in the MOTD it doesn’t seem to affect very many people, because I’m still struggling through with minimal help.

You say you kick inactives after a month or so. With a small guild is this the best policy? While no one likes to see a member’s list that’s dark, neither do people want to donate and help build a guild then get kicked because they took time off and they lose all their effort.

People like less to see a guild’s member list so umkempt as to be populated with inactives for 6mths to a year. The very reason I kick these inactive players is because they haven’t made any substantial difference to the guild, haven’t donated, they’re usually repping some other guild instead and are either too new for significant resources to accumulate or they couldn’t be bothered with helping to fund a guild hall in the first place. In essence, my goals weren’t theirs and so it’s probably better they not be a part of something that is ultimately shared.

Are your members also members of other guilds that are asking for donations? It can get quite expensive if they are donating to more than one guild…

Good point. That’s why I ask for loyal guildies that aren’t part of any other guilds (and I already have a few) so they aren’t burdened with multi-feeding halls unnecessarily.

… Unless the Guild Hall is relevant to their everyday lives – which is harder in a small guild – they will have no incentive to invest in that as opposed to selling the useful mats for personal gain which will rank a higher priority.

Involving members in decorating, ensuring players know what sevices exist in the hall, guild meetings held there, pvp fights in the arena, changing up the decorations, weekly keg brawls, use of the portal for guild missions – these are possible ideas that may help.

This seems to be the hardest thing about having a small guild that doesn’t wanna get too big… Anet didn’t really invest the time and effort into seeing how a small guild will do with resources in the mid-higher levels as opposed to an already established larger guild with hundreds of members, that doesn’t need to worry about materials or funds, because people give what they want and sometimes in surplus. I have 1 regular and 1 occasional donater of PvP potions for our struggling arena, which has been largely neglected as most of the players are PvE-based and don’t have a liking for PvP, like myself. The guild supports all game modes and encourages its members to keep doing what they like to do. Our weekly bonding session is in the Guild Missions which we keep going with religiously.

To Khisanth, our MOTD is updated regularly with materials which are needed, and now it’s also funds that are needed for upgrades. The guild leader is ultimately responsible for the hall and everything in it, but the members must recognise that I’m not made of in-game currency and can’t provide for everything in there without help. I believe there’s a lack of care-factor and a lack of involvement where this small guild falls over, as opposed to where a larger guild would succeed. More members have more of a say in what goes on and more opinions are valued; in a smaller guild it seems like quite the opposite. I keep recruiting for members that want to share being a part of this guild, regardless of size, as long as they’re loyal to the guild and can work together to help its growth. Am I being too utopian in my ideas for a small guild to have a good hall? Anet would seem to think so.

Getting guildies to donate to Guild Hall?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I know most people wouldn’t think about investing in a guild hall by themselves, but that’s how I started mine out when HoT was released. I got some help from 4 other randoms after parting with my 100g for registration. Having saved a lot of my materials in the bank, I had no trouble getting up enough levels to start with thanks to the use of said materials and the favour of my guild being converted from influence.

I’m thinking it was about GH level 12 or 13 when I decided to get people in on my guild, having been a one-man show for most of its life. Some old GW1 friends were invited as well as some new faces. However, as much of a boon to their playing experience as a guild hall is potentially, I’m not sure they feel the same way as I do about having the benefits of the hall. What I mean by that is, I ask for donations to the guild hall as it’s approaching Lvl 40 and even though it is ultimately mine, I can’t be the only one to support it.

Half the problem is not having the support of the guild members, but the other half is they don’t feel like it’s their responsibility to donate. There seems to be a lack of empathy and recognition towards the hall. Admittedly, my guild is and always has been small, and the less people represent the guild, the less respect they have for it.

There’s a core of maybe 5 players that are regulars and have been for months, but others come in for a few weeks, don’t log in and I end up kicking the inactives after a month or so. Out of that core about 3 are regular donaters. The most numbers my guild has ever had is about 40, and that wasn’t for very long. We have active guild missions every week, but because of our irregular and small numbers, we can’t get a lot of activities happening, even though they’re unlocked and waiting to be done.

The other problem I’m faced with is the people I do end up recruiting are one-time players returning, or newbies lacking game experience, money and materials, and looking for mentorship. I’m happy to provide for their playing experience to the best of my ability, but sometimes I’d like some reciprocation, and if not to me then to the guild, and ultimately the hall.

So this is an exercise in empathy. If this were your guild, hall and guildies, how would you get people to donate to your growing guild hall? I’m looking for constructive advice from experienced people preferably from larger and more established guilds.

I’m trying to get the last piece in the Magister’s Pack (and ultimately The Great Reformer achieve), and it’s the Airship Cargo Strap, which entails having been on a Verdant Brink map that gets up to tier 4 for night time events.

With the addition of Lake Doric to the mix, I’m not finding many maps that get more than about 20 players in VB, and more often than not I’m getting the Volunteer’s box (fail map) come up instead. So my question is, are the any organised groups that I can tag along with (if only once) to get the achievement I’m trying so hard to get?

What started out in 2009 in the original Guild Wars as a one-man show continued over into GW2 as such, and started to flourish with Heart of Thorns and the Guild Halls concept.

Currently we have 35 members of all ages primarily from Australia (some from overseas), and have a Guild Hall at Level 35. We’re looking for more members to help this guild continue to grow and flourish in whatever game modes best fit you [PvX].

Also looking for dedicated contributors to the Guild Hall!! Getting as far as we have has not been easy and won’t get any easier, not without a fair amount of help.

I look forward to hearing from you in game and hopefully adding you to our family of guildies.

This has been on my mind for some time now, but I really thought there would be some kind of rebalance on mobs when there were less than say 3-5 people doing the event.

Typically I solo this as best as I can becasue I’m usually the only one there to do it.

The mobs just keep on flooding in and it’s near impossible for some characters to keep up with the kills and ending up being constantly downed. Having the Revive-r-Tron’s there can help, but not when yourarmour is broken. You get killed even quicker with lack of armour.

It’s like consistently being spawn-camped by mobs that don’t stop flooding in. Can someone please implement some kind of mob control for this event?

Dragonball = Zero fun

I decided to give Dragonball a go again this year, as I have done in past years, and to my surprise there was literally no one else in my map. It was there saying “Waiting for players…” and no one else joined.

It was like this for 4 maps and the 5th one I actually found someone to trade AP’s with while we watched the timer count down.

Zero fun? How about zero players. I feel like this event has turned people off and some have boycotted it altogether. Not to mention the horrendous lag that I keep getting in these maps, even with 2 people in the map, my skill acquisition, skill activation and leaps are latent by about 2 seconds every time. I’m in Australia and on a much better connection than the one I did have, and even now it’s still the same shocking lag I experienced these past years.

A good place to start is to run pingplotter when you are having the bouts of lag. It will show you exactly where the problem is, which in turn will direct you to who you need to discuss the issue with. Type “/IP” (without quotes in the chat window to get the IP of the map you are in. Enter that as the target in pingplotter and then look at the results.

As a side note, if the lag isn’t affecting every player in the game, then its not going to be Anet’s issue.

mauried.5608:

Yes, Im in Canberra and get around the 270 ms latency.
Wont do much better unless using a service like Lowerping.
If your latency is well above this , then its a sign that the route to the US that your ISP uses is congested,or goes thru a lot of routers.
Tracert or pingplotter will show you where the lag is occurring.
Theres very little a game company can do about lag which is outside their control, simply because of the way MMOs work.
All client – server model games have the same problem.

I’ve done exactly what you guys are suggesting, many times before, and the same problem always occurs. There’s about 24 gateways (hops) that my connection has to do to get to the Anet servers. There used to be a choke point near Anet’s end, which was the service called Level 3. It was always a bottleneck and I’m not sure if this is still include in the trace route or if it’s since been bypassed.

But the worst part about this is that Anet ARE responsible for this problem. Since the Guild Wars 1 days I’ve been suggesting to devs (Gaile in particular) that Anet have dedicated servers located in the Oceanic area. This would clean up the latency issues. If it’s good enough to do so for other MMO’s it should be good enough for one that’s hell-bent on being noticed by redefining MMO’s. Alas, we’re not important enough to worry about, clearly. Nothing has been done about this; Oceanic’s are a rather small minority which it seems is easily killed off by not attending to it.

So please don’t tell me it’s on my end and not Anet’s, when it’s clear that not both sides of the coin have been examined. This needs to be looked at by a dev and not just the forum users, because their choice of masteries being gated behind adventures is killing the spirit of their expansion. Further, I would invite some devs to come to Australia and see just how bad our lag is. Our ISP’s are crap and we’re ranked among the worst in the developed world for broadband internet. I’m sure they’d agree that something needs to be done when your ping isn’t under 100ms like they’re so used to.

Ok so I tried once again to have a go at adventures, with slightly less lag on my end. It was under 300ms so I thought it’d be a great time to get some done without being held back by net latency.

I gave the Haywire Punch-o-Matic adventure a go, but before I did, I looked up a couple of guides on YT for assistance so I could at least get a Silver. As it turns out, no matter what the tactics I tried, doing everything pretty much the same way other people were doing it to get Gold, I couldn’t get past a Bronze level. I concluded that it wasn’t ability, technique, tactics or anything like that (as I was doing the adventure the same way as everyone else had been), but the lag – even at 250ms ping which for us Aussies is actually not that bad – was killing it.

I really cannot fathom why masteries need to be caught up in something that’s intended to be fun, but is killed off by something that we can’t control. I’m waiting to finish off 3 seaprate lines of masteries for new abilities in HoT and just cannot get them unlocked, regardless of my efforts and good intentions.

Anet, can we get some help over here??

Game Client Lost Connection To Server

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

You know the one, Code=7:11:3:191:101 where the server utterly refuses to talk to the client for whatever reason in cyberspace. I just tried to do a ‘/ip’ call and it took over 90 seconds for the server to respond to that one simple command. Not long after, and with no surprise, the game decided to lose its connection with my client.

This has become more frequent with more updates to HoT and everything is still the same connection-wise on my end.

Can the servers no longer handle the traffic with this error code or is it something else? It’s really bugging me how the game starts to lag a little, then a lot a few seconds later, then you know it’s just going to crash. This happens daily and I’d like to know why.

I just tried to do On Wings Of Gold for a couple of mastery points. The game isn’t even recognising that I’m right over/on the things that I collect, because the lag is so severe. Most of the time I’m lucky to actually catch updrafts to keep me in the adventure, because that’s the key to staying in this.

A quick edit to this: I just tried once again to get to the start point for the adventure; and three times I glided towards updrafts, and all three times they refused to catch me. Shortly after, I was disconnected from the ANet servers, but my connection was still steady. What’s going on, ANet?? :/

So I’ve been wanting to post about this for some time, but I thought I’d say something about it when it wasn’t lag from my end.

Adventures are nigh on impossible to even get a bronze completion with the kind of lag I’m experiencing. I tried the “A Fungus Among Us” adventure in tandem with yesterday’s dailies, and after about 50 attempts, the lag killed the challenge for me, and made it more of a challenge than it needed to be.

In this country (Australia), anything that requires rapid movement from one place to another via use of a skill is at the mercy of rubberband lag, which is exactly what I experienced 100% of the time last night. It’s bad enough in normal combat, but I’m living in Sydney on a decent ISP, and I’m still getting 300-500ms ping to ANet servers, which makes enjoying my ‘adventures’ rather limited.

Are there any remotely viable (and non-extreme) measures to remedy this?

This is Anet we’re talking about. They can’t fix something without breaking something else.

Check the patch notes for almost every patch ever done in this game. They have a history of it. Something can’t be fixed without something else going kaput in its place.

They’ll fix this, something else will go bonkers. Trust me.

Severe FPS drop after 3/8 patch

Turns out the latest NVidia driver is a bit buggy. Rolled back and it’s fine now.

I have an nVidia card as well, and the last update on it was today. I’m still logging in with 17fps in LA, and this is happening about one time in three that I log in. The rest of the time I’m sitting proudly on 60fps. I can change maps but the FPS drop won’t change if I logged in with it – it will be with me for the entire session.

(Thanks for starting this thread – I was going to make one of my own, but this appears to outline my experiences with the game almost in parallel).

Let’s go back to Occam’s Razor for a minute.

Done a traceroute already, it won’t complete.

Ran around a map solo, fought foes, no lag. I get in a group situation like a world boss and… everything stops. I miss out on the world boss event entirely even though I did damage and receive no credit for it.

Very much the same issue as well. I didn’t know whether to attribute this problem to the extreme lag that I’d been experiencing in-game while I’ve been logged on today, but everything else (internet) seems to be running fine. Even a speedtest told me that it wasn’t my connection.

I did the ipconfig /flushdns trick mentioned earlier as well, no dice. The game has become unplayable and I’m just lucky that I got the daily done before things got worse.

I believe this needs more fixing.

I believe Dragon Ball Arena minigame should be called Laggin-ball. That’s all I’ve gotten from the past 4 days of playing at varied and different times.

  • The pop/jump mechanism to get you out into the game proper doesn’t shoot you high enough all the time.
  • I’ll run over a power-up and then wait 2-3 seconds for it to activate and get to my skill bar.
  • I’ll auto-attack at someone and then realise they aren’t there to attack.
  • Trying to use any of the power-ups results in the same lag that is caused by running over them to use.
  • My personal favourite is when I’m running along after someone, and then start taking damage from seemingly nothing (no damage impacts, no projectiles, nothing), until I see my health decline. Then I get monstered by people from nowhere.
  • All the jumps take a minimum of 1 second to activate.

Ability aside, I’ve not been able to win very many matches of this game. Not sure if this comes down to high populations of people playing at the same time or this particular server(s) being overloaded, but I have no troubles getting around in DR afterwards.

I saw this thread and thought I’d post my experiences here anyway.

Trouble with recruiting for small guilds

in Looking for...

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

What I’ve found is that smaller guilds cannot compete with larger ones. When it comes to doing big stuff with huge rewards (anything from dungeons, fractals to raids and all the latest HoT goodness), then smaller guilds don’t really have a leg to stand on.

You could advertise 100% rep but this will turn people away who want to rep other guilds, be they smaller or larger, and for whatever duration. If you have an up-and-coming guild with a guild hall and you’re looking to get certain upgrades done, you need help with just about everything there is to maintaining it. Materials, guild events like missions, treks, etc. all requires help, and if you don’t have the numbers from recruiting then it feels like a wasted effort.

It seems to me like there’s too much competition with people always vying for a guildie’s presence to help them rep the guild. Without representation, your guild will slump. I work a 60-65 hour a week job and have very little time for this game compared to what I used to. I have another guildie who is my right hand assisting me with recruiting and stuff, but it’s an uphill struggle for smaller guilds to get to where the bigger guilds are.

Smaller guilds flounder where the larger ones flourish, it seems… that’s basically all there is to it.

Matt Pennebaker - Legendary collection issues

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I know what he meant, I was taking the point and expanding on it further. There are people that literally do not want to do other modes of content, other than what they’re comfortable with, for whatever reason (ability, lag, uncomfortable with the gameplay, etc.)

And no, I would not have thought either of those items were purchaseable on the TP. They sounded to me like they were items that were only earned, and therefore possibly bound (either soul or account), as a proof of your being in that mode of play, and maybe tradeable with NPC’s for something else as a type of currency or something.

This was only my thinking about these rewards, and I was totally not expecting them to be traded with other players. o.O I didn’t even bother looking on the TP for these.

Just finished reading an article on Dulfy where Matt Pennebaker (working with Linsey Murdoch) was talking about working to fix legendary collections on Reddit recently.

I was concerned about something that he said in the article, specifically; “Fix blockers as soon as I’m made aware of them. Anything that halts your progress is unacceptable and I’ll do everything I can to get it fixed ASAP.

To me, a major blocker is being forced to do any game mode that you don’t agree with, in order to complete the collection needed to advance your building of a precursor. Personally, I’m a PvE guy. I don’t PvP and rarely spend time in WvW or EotM. Yet I’m needing to participate in both of these gameplay modes to advance my collections.

Tell me, why does someone NEED to play these modes if they aren’t agreeable to the player? I’m not buying my precursor from anyone else (I’ve said my piece on that LONG ago) and currently there’s no other way around this collection. Why make someone do something that they don’t want to if they need to get their collection sorted?

Just throwing this out there, I know others are in the same boat and I thought I’d make mention of something that will inevitably irritate me beyond belief.

Same here, getting to about 34MB downloaded, then the installer flashes momentarily, amping up the install speed to about 16MB/sec then dwindling slowly down to 0KB/sec and stopping totally, until the installer gets switched off then restarted.

It’s like there some mysterious bug that jumps in at that 34MB mark though.

Guild Halls, and the One-Man Guild.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

While I do get your point, I really do think that this is kind of on purpose. A guild is not a solo thing, it’s a group thing. So build your guild to at least 9 guild mates and you are good to go!

I’m sorry, but I don’t agree. A guild is whatever the owner of a guild wants to make of it; be it for whatever purpose or design they need it. For example, I’ve had my own guild which was largely a solo-effort since 2009. It was just something I wanted to have since I had the cash to make it, and it was a place to just AFK for a bit, do trades with merchants when they weren’t available, etc. A lot of other people I spoke to in GW1 had the same designs for their guilds, be they solo or massive multi-guild alliances.

Creation of a guild for a solo purpose should NOT be a difficult thing to do, and I believe the designers of guild halls have overlooked this.

It was quite the opposite in the original GW. The intention of it was to have somewhere to AFK as well as a place to put in your own upgrades, plan and organise elite content, etc. I can’t figure out why one-man guilds have been stiffed like we have in this game.

Guild Halls, and the One-Man Guild.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I found this topic had been partly discussed about 9 months ago (before beta’s), and we never got any real recent feedback about how either small or one-man guilds would be affected by the current constraints of the Guild Hall creation.

Personally, I’ve never done any Guild Missions. I’m a one-man guild with my nephew and his girlfriend being online occasionally to help rep, but that’s all. I don’t go for big guilds, medium guilds, etc. I’ve tried them all and they either don’t do my style of gameplay all that often, or are never online to help out, and if they are it’s at times when I’m not on. A guild of my own is my way of saying that I can create something for myself within the game, with whatever time I have left to play the game (which these days isn’t much).

Now, Anet throws a royal spanner in the works by making the creation of a guild hall dependant upon the success of a guild mission. So, what am I supposed to do? Bring on some helpers in a game map for some cheap labour to help me get the guild hall creation going, and then bugger them off later, like ‘thanks for the help’? Why can’t a one-man guild get a guild hall like the bigger guilds? Ok, obviously I’m not going for the upgrades and all that jazz, but seriously, obtaining a guild hall in GW1 was a ton easier than this is.

I really don’t like the idea of putting people in my guild temporarily just to get a guild hall started; like I said, I’m a one-man guild with very occasional help, and I’d rather do something for myself like I could in GW1. I have a GH decoration to hang but no guild hall to display it in.

Client Download keeps stalling after patch

Trying to start the game after the latest patch and I can’t get the installer to go more than 50kb/sec; most often it’s 2-10kb/sec, and stalls frequently. Sometimes it recovers and resumes downloading (still painfully slow), and other times it decreases to 0kb/sec, stalls for a prolonged time and gives up (“Connection error(s) detected… Retrying”) either temporarily or altogether.

Tried resetting the router and rebooting the PC, neither have been effective. Tried doing speed tests on various sites and get the same results within a margin of error, so it’s not me.

I hate pvp, not a fan at all. But don’t forget that there are still farming servers for pve’rs that need something from a reward track or something, so just join those. But i do not think anet made a bad choice, a legendary has always been about experiencing every part of the game, a little here, a litle there , so i’m not surprised it shows itself once again in the precursor scavenger hunt. Quite frankly i think it’s far worse for pvp’rs , there is way more pve focus in these scavenger hunts, so i can ahrdly feel bad for having to go to pvp for that (from what is currently known) one item :p

Don’t know why you’d think PvP’ers get the worse deal; for most PvP only people I’ve talked to they don’t like the blatant simplicity and ease of which one should just stroll through the bulk of the game. PvP by comparison is one person using their toon’s skills against another, which is far less predictable, more of a challenge, and for those not into PvP, being put on the back foot. PvE should be a nice relaxing experience for the hardcore PvP’ers… the only thing I think they wouldn’t like is the grind.

How to become staff elementalist ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Staff ele is really good to use at range, if you like that playstyle. As you get more adept at using a staff, you’ll get better staves of higher levels along the way with more damage ability. After you’ll start making better armour (or buying it) with stats that further increase your damage, pertinent to the way that you play (berserker, condi, heals, etc.) then you’ll become more effective in combat.

I just finished watching a recording from twitch about the anet guys saying that the new precursor crafting will involve items gotten only from PvP. I’ve never done any PvP in this game in the more than 3 years I’ve been playing it. I never wanted to. I never liked PvP in the original GW because I’m at a loss when it comes to gaming skill and latency issues. Being behind the 8-ball like that drives people away, and making stuff that’s only obtainable through PvP when they don’t like that mode leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I understand what they said about mastery of the game in all its aspects, but making people do a mode of gameplay that they don’t want to do to obtain something they really want isn’t the way to go about it. I remember something about ‘play your own way’… I guess that slogan got lost a while back.

At the 3min mark (or a bit before), Roy says they added weapon swap so that it would be easier and more fluid to melee and range. I main an ele. I want to melee and range, not one or the other. Where’s my weapon swap?

Ignore the elements and the skills which can (and can’t) be used for a given scenario, the precedent has been set here. I’m sure engi’s wouldn’t mind a weapon swap ability either.
