Tripped, faceplanted, and broke your neck.

Broken as intended.

Fixed. LA is the worst place to be for tripping/falling, esp. down the steep stairs and the long steep boardwalk from the Vigil Centrehouse to Bloodcoast Ward Waypoint.

Don’t look for a fix on this – obviously Anet thinks it’s amusing.

Just as an aside, I have seen pre’s drop but nothing for me. The example I have is last WvW season (2) there were some particularly lucky people in our zerg.

One got the Tooth of Frostfang and 30 minutes later, someone else looted a Chaos Gun. A good night for those people.

I do get lag here in Aussie land, but it’s usually for one of two very specific reasons:

  • when I run a pathping command (eg. pathping -w 500 -q 25 -4 64.25.39.1) to Anet, usually Level3 is acting up which is the point at which the signal from overseas lands in the US, or not far from it. Level3 has a lot of issues with it on a high regularity.
  • my exchange runs at ADSL2+ speeds (24Mb/sec), but I get the feeling it shouldn’t be able to do it. During peak times (4:30pm – ~11pm) the connection speeds take a nosedive, sometimes not even getting 2Mb/sec. I don’t live that far away from the exchange so I’m usually pulling 17-18Mb/sec speeds outside of those times. This severely hampers my play times.

Bring on the NBN.

The majority of people I see speaking about Halloween in LA are reminiscing about the first year when the JP was in and the dungeon, reaper’s rumble, etc. and how they were so disappointed about how none of that made it into last year’s iteration.

Being in tune with your playerbase is knowing what people want and I’ve found (based on conversations) that most don’t want that degree of change, and more specifically, lack of content from last year that was released in the first year.

Getting us all excited for Halloween might be good for new players, but for veterans it’s a bit of ‘hold your breath’ and see if they actually know how to listen to us, or just guess what we want, and that’ll do.

I’ve never even entertained the notion of buying a pre from the TP. To me it’s just the (morally) cheap way out of acquiring probably the most difficult items in the game.

I don’t consider it a win if I buy someone else’s good luck.

Personally, I’m rather blessed to have been awarded one from the forge. I’m probably one of a handful of people in the game who have bought nothing from the TP in order to assemble the legendary. That means EVERYTHING was farmed. 100g for icy runestones, and 20g for the appropriate recipes and that was it (not including the amount of mat’s farmed for crafting rares to use as forge fodder).

But as the question is “Do most buy their precursors off the TP”, and from what I’ve seen by talking to a lot of people about it, I’d be removing the “Do” from the OP’s title. If you’re not an insane farmer and a TP flipper then it’s pretty much a given that you’re going to buy your pre from the TP. There’s nothing legendary about it, besides the amount of gold and the time needed to farm it all.

With the reluctance of people to just throw their cash away on rares and/or exo’s as forge fodder, and until another method of acquisition is available (pre crafting), to me it seems like a decent portion of the playerbase would buy from the TP. For most it’s really not an option, it’s just something that has to be done to progress a legendary.

Boss events: Why "lfg"?

The dev posts linked above are from concepts that are over 3 years old, and which also don’t include the recent addition of megaserver.

That info may have rung true at one point in time, and I certainly do remember this (as I’ve stated in many other threads), but with a megaserver, it’s a case of first come first served.

You arrive late at a boss and you throw everything you possibly have at it, dealing a significant portion of the damage, you’ll still walk away lootless. I’ve seen this, firsthand; it’s happened so many times before and I’m at the point where you have to be at the very start of the boss’ HP drop (where they lose the vuln.) to be in with a shot of that loot bag at the end.

There’s enough examples of this listed above that I don’t need to go further with this point. The bottom line is the loot system sucks and needs a drastic overhaul, based on what we’re getting at the moment. Boss loot should come with the participation level (Gold, Silver, Bronze) for being a part of that event. That would solve a lot of issues and competitiveness for champ bags, and start making kills worth something again.

Can I get the Mad King's book (back item)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pretty sure Anet wanted exclusivity with those back items. They ran the event once (with a heap of bugs) and never really looked back at Halloween 1 (2012).

Also a lot of people get the spelling and pronunciation of this item wrong. It’s “Mad Memoires” (say mem-wahr), ie. ‘an account of one’s personal life and experiences; autobiography’… not mad memories. Spelt similarly, also rather similar meaning, but in essence very different.

I’d like it if they brought it back though; I don’t care about how exclusive a back item is but it would show the newer players the essence of a scavenger hunt.

I wanted to raise a question on Collections, and why it was believed to be a good idea to make some items incredibly hard to get (Claw fragment), and others making it seems like an endless stream (Tequatl spoon).

Also what was the idea behind making the rareness of these items (trinkets in particular) gated behind bugged events, like Foulbear, Commisar, etc. Surely there was an easier way to implement the loot drops that we never seem to get, regardless of faithful participation?

Sorry, but I’m not seeing an even 2-way street with the time (and money) invested in these items and the rewards that are supposed to be get-able. To me the collections introduced last month are a time-and-gold-sink aimed at those who have nothing more to do with their in-game time and money than to throw it at the last amount of AP’s they can. The exotic variants of Commisar’s Manifesto, Sam, Pendant of Arah, etc. are all looking like they were never meant to drop. Please, if there’s a logical reason behind these decisions (and the broken events), I’d love to hear it.

I saw a suggestion in a thread a few weeks ago (probably lost by now, thanks broken Search), where something could be done in-game to increase the rarity of these items from Fine to Exotic; (kind of on the same vain as using a Mystic Binding Agent) where it costs x-amount/time to acquire, to improve the quality of the item. Doing so would make it Soulbound on Acquire, as to not flood the market. This would satisfy the requirements for the collection and we can move on with the game in other areas.

I don’t think it amounts to the number of new people they put on, or the people they’ve lost regardless of reason; the underlying problem is still there. Fix your ‘policy’, talk to your playerbase at large, give us something to get excited about and I think a lot will go right for you in the end.

“Testing the water” in these forums, it’s still toxic and needs to be flushed. That flush starts with better communication (thanks Gaile), an overhaul of policy and asking what the players of your game would like, timely implementation and explanation of why something didn’t make it into a patch. I personally would prefer this than have you telling us what we got in the form of Patch Notes, and making the communication feel like we’ve been stonewalled after all.

Jormag Claw Fragment really exist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

From the dulfy.net site…

  • Reward: 10 AP, 5 Obsidian Shards, 10 Icy Rune Stones, Essence of Luck (500), 1 Exotic Item, 2 Rare Items.

Yup, it definitely exists, and the rewards are somewhat more tangible than some of the other, far more costly Collections (even AP alone).

However, the method of getting one of these is questionable. The Claw of Jormag chest isn’t known for having the best drops, even for being one of the more difficult meta dragons.

I put forward a proposal a while ago to make the Claw Fragment drop from any of the icebrood that come from the Claw of Jormag event (eg. all the adds that spawn, such as the icebrood elemental, icebrood kodan, icebrood quaggan and such). Instead of the rather limited way to obtain this fragment, open things up a bit more and allow for more people to get in on the Collection.

I see another example of Anet shooting themselves in the foot. I can’t be the only one to see how this could have been done better.

But you know we have said, officially, that SAB will return in the future, right? I don’t know that everyone understood that, but yes, it’ll be back. I honestly and truly don’t know when — and even more honestly, I don’t know if the return has been scheduled. However, I heard the “it will be back” from Colin, and I pretty much rely on that guy for knowing what’s what.

Gaile, I appreciate your efforts here, and I know most of the other forum users do as well. With regard to SAB however, even though you say it’ll be back, Colin says it’ll be back as well, and I am well aware of how true Colin’s word is (precursor crafting says hi!). I think what you have to remember is that there are many forum users here with considerably longer memories than what some devs give us credit for. Thankfully we don’t need a Search function on our memories.

I just think it’s unfortunate that a lot of players let negative experiences guide their hopes for this game, and the disappointment of a lot of things that have come to pass so far, regardless of the good intentions of the devs, a lot of it just hasn’t worked out the way we though (or hoped) it would, and in the timeliness that would have been appropriate.

Hmm, thanks for that link, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to follow the layout. If I do all the PvE-based ones, it shows there’s only 6 at most to do per day (if you count the Daily Events and Recycler as always available), when there’s 8 listed in the actual dailies for PvE. So today it’s missing Daily Gatherer and Daily Dodger.

I’m not sure who laid out the table like that, or if it has some significance to it with that layout, but it seems a bit confusing to look at, like it was somehow adapted from it’s previous iteration of dailies and two extra slots for two extra PvE dailies weren’t factored in.

I’ve no idea if this has been suggested before, but I just logged in today to find out that Karma Spender is one of the Daily’s.

Yesterday I went and spent 21k karma on an ascended insignia recipe.

I literally have no other use for the karma spending, thanks to my recent and most diligent efforts in procuring a lot of weapon skins for the Fashion title.

If I’d have known that today’s daily would include Karma Spender, I would have held off until today to make the ascended insignia recipe count.

PS: Dailies used to be predictable in GW1, there was even a page dedicated to the collections needed for Nicholas the Traveller and the Zaishen-related activities. I haven’t seen anything like this for GW2 so far. If there is something for it, please direct me to it. However, my idea still stands.

Here is what the Devs have said about future collections so far:

The Future

This is certainly not the last you will be seeing of Item Collections. We have many more in the works, some that stand alone and some that are deeply tied to the Living World. We are very excited for this new system and what it will bring to the game going forward. We had a lot of fun designing and building it, and we hope you have as much fun playing it. So get out there, explore the world, and find that last piece of loot!

Well at least some people are having fun with the current (bugged) collections system, even if it is just the dev’s.

The rewards for crafting stuff, like ascended armour, is very much as belittling as the Fractal weapon or an Aetherpath weapon set would be. Far too much effort and outlay, far too little reward for work. Some may argue that the reward is in the doing of it, as it helps you through the game (ascended crafting, though I still can’t justify why everything is so expensive for a mere 5% stat boost, and only really good for Fractals), but others will argue that it’s just skins and there’s really no measurable reward worth all that time and effort of investment.

My bank is waiting rather patiently to be emptied of the recent bugged collection’s goods (champ bags, alcohol, etc.)

Hit nail on head.

Scipio’s posts and thoughts on this are on the mark as well.

A simple acknowledgement that something is, say, broken and needs fixing, and if it’ll be included in the next patch, would do most people just fine, from what I can gather.

Also Gaile, can we please get the forum’s Search function fixed? It’s been broken for nearly 2 years. I know there’s been heaps of topics on this, but the sad irony is that they get lost in the forums and never acted upon.

The tragedy that is megaserver

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valandil Dragonhart.2371

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

The way it was pre-megaserver worked just fine. The nodes under T6 (ie. T5 and below) would respawn (hourly) in different areas of the map in a different instance. The T6 stuff is a once-every-24hr gather and so harvested instances of the nodes that you’ve gathered from would appear in a different map in different places.

Regarding map instancing and jumping, it can only be a good thing from my perspective. If you have a bugged event and you can’t get it to activate on one instance, then getting it to work on another (fresh) instance is the only real way to work it. With events like Foulbear and the Commisar consistently bugging, I can’t see how this instancing is bad; and now that they’re consistently farmed for their boss loot drops/chest (thanks to collections), it’s even more paramount.

As it is, the only way you can get another instance to spawn is if the map hits the hard-cap for players. Without any significant events like triple trouble or tequatl going on, this is kind of hard to get to happen.

Bring back those instanced maps!!

I disagree with it and I’m totally not surprised with the community’s general state of disdain for the developers.

I think that a bad misconception that needs to be addressed a developer is by his/her nature generally not in control of things like news worthy releases, it is their job to get whatever asset they are working on working.

So if your looking for someone to paste a blame card on I would look higher up the food chain, the main reason however you hide things is that you do not want your competition knowing which direction your heading too, as this would give the competition an advantage that advantage can cost $.

They’re playing with a double-edged sword.

It’s no misconception – their hands are tied. If company policy didn’t step in and prevent them from talking about whatever we should be getting all excited about, then they should at least be more responsive toward other areas of the game(I’m talking pre-Mike O’Brien Communication thread). Their accelerated (and appreciated) efforts recently don’t really make up for the past two years+ of general silence.

Of course they’re the poster-people of the game, and the company, because you won’t get in touch with anyone higher like parent companies, etc. I believe that if you want to keep people in the game longer, you talk to them about what you have in the works. Give us something to get excited about. Sod the competition… especially when an exodus thanks to LACK of communication will cost them quite a bit more in lost revenue.

The exodus started back at release, they’re trying to make up for that now with the NPE. It’s the veterans that will now leave en-masse, thanks to lack of content and timeliness for general fixes that are long overdue.

Limited amount of people getting loot?

….
Megaservers are the worst thing to happen to GW2.

I dont think its about doing damage. My guardian does pretty nice damage but if give the zerg a few seconds headstart of doing damage I get no loot, but if I attack early I get loot even if I slack with my dps. Or was I just always lucky/unlucky?

^ He’s on the money, at least from my experiences.

The changes with the megaserver coming into play have made it so unfair for loot distribution as to not bother with the event if you get there a matter of seconds after the boss starts taking damage. That loot drop now has someone else’s name on it. I’ve tried various different methods of why and why I was not getting boss drops from a lot of events, and Malediktus’ appraisal of the situation appears to stick the most.

So it’s like this…

Pre-megaserver – show up, kill the boss even when it’s at half health, get full credit and loot for the kill.

Megaserver – show up on time and start killing as soon as the boss becomes active, or don’t bother showing up and trying to kill at all.

It’s quite simple – I liked the way it was before. The whole system needs a complete loot-drop overhaul though.

Not getting credit for Champion Slayer

This is what sucks the most about event scheduling and megaserver.

Like what has been discussed many times over, the kill credit shouldn’t be limited to a “first-in-best-dressed” scenario like we have now, especially with the amount of people the megaserver brings to each event. The loot from the boss, the experience from the kill (again provided you do enough damage), and the reward (gold badge, karma, exp and coin) should be shared equally between all participants of the kill… not those who happened to get in first.

Home Instance & The "Mini's Farm"

Adding to this idea, regarding the mini’s, perhaps we could have a designated area with a large plinth or something to have the mini’s mounted on, and roaming about freely, perhaps with a mini landscape to wander around in or something.

I keep thinking about all the mini’s that were in my Hall of Monuments, and while a few of them made noises, all of them were stagnant and leashed to one spot (unless you had more than 19? and then you could switch them around). These were on a platform as well, but with the home instance idea I was thinking something about 4 or 5 times bigger in overall size; kind of like their own little home environment. Think of Zaishen Menagerie for miniatures.

Unable to change utilities out of combat

I first noticed this in the Thaumanova fractal. Most irritating that it doesn’t recognise that I’m out of combat and can’t change over utilities.

"Stacks" disappearing

While playing on my guardian and building up blood lust stacks, I’ll get to the max 25 and then switch over to staff just for general farming purposes. I’ll check on the bar above the utilities, the blood lust stacks will still be there for a while until I look some time later, and they’ve gone.

I’ve looked up what can make these stacks disappear, and short of being downed (which never happens on this guy) or leaving the map, I can’t figure out what I’m doing that’s making me lose these stacks.

I don’t know if the other stacking sigils (corruption, accuracy, etc.) do the same thing, but it’s happening more and more often with blood lust.

And, well, no to the centaurs. I don’t even want to think about them as playable. That sounds like a nightmare of armor design.

Dry Top kills not Maguuman kills?

Places like Dry Top and Southsun Cove don’t count towards overall map completion. They were added in after the establishment of zones like ascalon, maguuna, shiverpeaks, etc. were put in place at the beginning of the game.

As such, Dry Top at least, doesn’t count towards any type of ‘zone’ kill.

Lodestones are almost always over priced – buy the next tier down and combine them yourself.

Please remember to factor in the costs of forging two cores into a lode. People can’t really put a given price on laurels (or skill points), but Mystic Binding Agents are one way; the other is Elonian Wine which is 25s4c per forge.

When you add these factors in, buying cores to convert to lodes might be slightly cheaper in the long run, esp. when making something lodestone-intensive in the recipe like this, and Mjölnir.

I still believe the recipe for this (and Mjölnir) requires too many lodes; if they cut the recipe down to size to something more reasonable and achievable then topics like this can be avoided.

Raids are coming to GW2!

So raids = elite dungeons/instances akin to The Deep and Urgoz’s Warren in GW1. Both of which were 12-man, organised instances, both challenging and epic requiring vast co-ordination.

I personally wouldn’t mind if FoW or UW were reintroduced into GW2, if nothing else but for the sake of the veterans.

The collectibles in themselves still have a lot of bugs. Submit a bug report and we’ll see if Anet does anything about unbugging these collections.
