Unable to finish Sanctum Sprint

First I’ll be clear, I’ve finished SS hundreds of times before already. However it seems that now it’s become somewhat of a lag-a-thon and getting from one point aerially (using #3 skill) is more pot luck than intended mechanics.

Getting past checkpoint 5 for me is now virtually impossible. I’ve tried every single way known to get to the other platform and even when I DO make it across, lag has the last say as to whether I did or not.

This is MASSIVELY FRUSTRATING as the end can no longer be gotten to thanks to not just occasional lag spikes (which this game mode was always prone to), but any lag at all and it seems you can’t get near your destination. This is an old complaint, I know, but it hasn’t gotten any better or been improved any over the course of its duration in the game. It’s now a case of being extremely lucky if one can finish this at all. The game mechanics are far too susceptible to lag.

Patch time has nothing to do with a convenient time for the “majority” of players. It has everything to do with standard business hours of where Anet is located.

Maybe so, but that doesn’t make it right for the overseas players who will be at least 12 hours behind the majority of the playerbase (think about it, most OCX/SEA players wouldn’t be able to get on at any practical time before say 4pm the following day, but the patch usually drops when we’re counting Z’s), and it most certainly doesn’t mean we have to like it.

Times like this I hate living in Australia. lol

Suck it up, buttercup. Now you see the disadvantages of not only living in another country, but also the one furthest from where the event is at.

Also, not only is it a disadvantage distance-wise, but also time-wise. Whenever this all goes down ‘across the pond’, it’s a decent time compared to when it all happens over here. You have to be an insomniac or a shift worker interested in gaming to be able to catch it live. Either way it’s a minority.

Now you see why I hate patch day. It’s always at a time that suits the ‘majority’ players, and the overseas ones have to always play catch-up.

It seems they can’t have a patch update without (inadvertently) screwing up some part of the trading post interface. I’ve lost count of how many times this has happened, but they never fail to disappoint.

I wish they’d just get it right and keep it that way.

Final LS boss help needed

Point of No Return? More like No Point of Returning if you wanna face the boss solo.

The mechanic to light one part of the wall takes way too long and I end up taking off all my armour as it’s useless. I die far too often and for no good reason than utterly stupid mechanics. Then a lag spike hits me. Basically while I’m standing there I’m dragon-fodder. Nothing more than target practice for it. Meanwhile the smothering things undo all your hard work and the whole exercise becomes pointless if you’re going solo.

This is how I’ve done ALL my LS stuff, and this is the only part I have REAL issues with.

Anyway from what I can see, the pingpath isn’t even executing all the way to Anet’s server node. Being in Australia, it’s stopping its hops when one doesn’t respond in time, which is hop #14 (telstraglobal.net node), and I think it’s the last one before it crosses the pond and makes contact with Level3. The number of hops it usually makes is ~22 or 23 so it’s cutting out prematurely because of telstraglobal.net node.

Tried Gaile’s advice using “pathping -w 500 -q 100 -4 64.25.39.1 > C:\pathping.txt” (minus the quotes), it comes back at me “Access is denied.” like a pro. I take away the " > C:\pathping" and it executes as normal. I’m hoping it’s something minor that I’ve missed – I haven’t played with DOS switches for ~20yrs and a lot has escaped me.

So I took a bit of a break from playing the game in between the last LS episode and wintersday, I find out that one of the collections had been fixed in a recent patch so I logged in to get the collection started (and soon after, completed). But I took a look on the wiki as to which of the champ bags were being attributed to the still-broken Hero of the People collection, and one of the ones I was saving it turns out was no longer being utilised for the collection.

So I decided to open a few of these bags to clear out some of my bank space. I get to the last bag in a series of maybe 15 that I opened, and I see a familiar looking icon appear in my inventory. Leaf of Kudzu had graced my presence, making it my second precursor (now one champ bag drop, one forge), before I sold it on the TP.

I like to think my RNG had reset during my time away from the game.

I don’t think it really matters how badly your game runs on your current Intel hardware, because it can’t be anything like as bad as how an AMD system runs it. >__<

I built this AMD system I currently own over 3 years ago and realised at the time I started playing GW2 that I went for brand loyalty over smarts (been gaming with AMD for over 12 years, back when they were leaving Intel behind with different instruction sets).

GW2 is really the only game that this hardware struggles with, being CPU-bound. I ran max settings on Skyrim and never even discovered a hiccup. It still runs it flawlessly.

Having said this, I shall be upgrading this outdated boat-anchor of a system with a very similar build to what most people have described here:

i7-4790K
Asus Maximus VII mobo
Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133 (16Gb)
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming (4Gb), DX12-spec
Corsair HX750i (80 Platinum) full modular PSU
Corsair H80i CPU water cooler
Noctua NF-F12 push-pull fans to keep this bad boy quieter than what I currently have
All mounted in my current Zalman GS1200 full tower.

To be clear, I’m not building this new rig to enhance GW2, although it’ll kitten all over what I currently own, but it’s more for other games and to keep it a bit more modern. Also, the mobo I’ll get will be compatible with Broadwell CPU’s, so with this iteration it’ll have its own degree of upgradability without tearing the whole system down.

By making 2 of the 4 pve choices fractals, pve players who don’t frac must find something to do in either pvp or wvw in order to get the daily.

The very idea of having half the PvE daily selection (upon login) and two-thirds the requirements for minimum qualification for the 10 AP’s for the people who just don’t fractal (people who are mostly casuals who login for a brief time only to get these AP’s) is silly, and these people are being cheated. I’m ONLY speaking for PvE requirements, as the reward overall could instead be accomplished in WvW fairly easily.

Disregarding the above sentence and speaking only from a fractal daily standpoint, personally I’d give fractals their own subcategory because, like dungeons, they’re not everyone’s cup o’ tea, and certainly not all casual PvE’ers. Most of the time I see the requirements for the PvE daily revolving around gathering and world events, and going by the number of people I see at any given time in the area that said events occur in, we’re not short of people there.

Philosophy Shift to Less Choice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

The ‘perceived’ lack of choice was more apparent in yesterday’s daily. Two out of the four PvE dailies were for Fractals. If you don’t Fractal (or PvP or WvW) then you’re screwed. No daily for you.

This is the problem I have with this argument and my problem with the argument hasn’t changed.

The reward you’re not getting that you would have got before is achievement points on which there is a cap.

That is to say, if you keep doing only the days you want, you’ll end up with the same achievement points eventually. Even if you skip a day, it’s unlikely in the old system, you’d have gotten ten points in a day. So it would probably cover two days worth. You can afford to skip every other day in the new system to be rewarded more than you were in the old system.

Most of the problem here is a matter of perception.

Wow – not a finer example of word-twisting and point-skewing is to be found in this thread. Still somehow with that faint whiff of whiteknightism.

The bottom line here is you missed the point entirely. Yet again you’ve gone off on your own tangent and completely used my quote as a basis for nothing relevant whatsoever.

Just so you know, I wasn’t referring to AP’s… I was referring to the rewards that come with completion of the 4 PvE dailies that aren’t AP’s. I missed out on an extra chest of rewards because fractals aren’t my thing. Whose fault is that? Mine because I don’t like the content? Or is it because of the lack of choice (swinging back to the topic)?

Sure AP’s are nice (overall), but I’m not a hunter for those AP’s, and I favour something a bit more tangible for effort than a number.

I’m a primary PvE’r as well. When I think of other games modes like WvW, I keep thinking about what CJ was saying about it. I’ll paraphrase… “some of you already love WvW, but others may come to like it as well…” or words to that effect; it seems to me like he’s got someone at his back trying to push the WvW mode on us.

I for one, am not into WvW, mainly because of limiting outside factors. Those being that the hardware I have is in need of an upgrade so I can’t model more people on my screen like others can, and above all, my internet connection is not only strained but the furthest away from Anet’s servers! This forces such a lagstorm upon players in this region more than anywhere else. Mainly for this reason I just can’t find enjoyment in WvW; I’m hamstrung by outdated technology and location.

PvE is becoming just as bad thanks to megaserver and now the dailies sometimes including specific events, like the recent maw. There’s ALWAYS a crowd at those certain events, and thanks to this game being damage-based (you don’t hit, then it’s pointless doing the event), then it’s harking back to my original DPS-race topic I made several months ago, when megaserver became the norm. What was fun once, now has become ‘competitive’… it’s you against the rest of the other players for loot and event credit.

So 4 days ago I log in after a bit of a break and decide to pop some champ bags. I open about 40 or so and find the Leaf of Kudzu sitting there. Accout age at drop – 837 days.

Making other PvE stat combos viable

@Dalanor

This isn’t just about dungeons for getting loot. Such a narrow-minded and myopic view on the rest of the PvE world. That kind of outlook is far from being a fix-all.

You’re discounting the world boss run (which I NEVER see a shortage of people on), other meta events outside of the WBR (temples), higher-end world exploration, etc. Anyone worth their salt is wearing ascended zerker gear and an ascended or better weapon, and a good 90% of the time it too will be zerker.

There’s always people looking for a group at these events, and even just roaming the Orrian and other L70+ areas for map completion. Some do it for the supposed increased chances of loot, but others will just as likely keep one eye on their teammates and support where necessary. Keep in mind the latter example is very rare in this game, and nothing like as common as GW1, which I think is something this game is missing. In my eyes at least, it shouldn’t be helping them only when they’re downed; to me that’s not how a good party functions. Right now it’s every dog for themself.

Making other PvE stat combos viable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valandil Dragonhart.2371

I’ll echo the sentiment here, “all stat combos are viable”.

What you won’t change are the opinions and the minds of the simpletons who are balls-deep into the idea that doing the most damage is best. For them it’s the be all and end all of GW2, and nothing will change.

It’s because everyone has to do their own damage (except for being in a party) and heal themselves, that we have to undertake these roles ourselves. Since there’s no Holy Trinity here, there’s no reward for being a brick wall to bash up and no reward for healing people. The simple reason is because you’re not doing any damage. And it’s because of this bloody-minded mechanic of Anet’s that you have to do ‘some’ damage to qualify for loot, that only the damage dealers will get any reward for effort.

But then you get the people who want to get it done faster, and that’s where the zerker mentality steps in. There’s no dedicated support players for buffs or heals in a zerg, where the berserker geared people do their job best. If some people start getting downed then perhaps a generous war will hit the elite banner and res them, or the voluntary acts of random people such as sporadic heals in enemy AoE or resurrecting the downed, but most people are about dealing damage, not supporting other players. There’s no loot and thus no reward (other than altruistically) for doing so in this game.

Personal opinion here, but I question whether Anet-induced farms are more likeable, profitable or better than player-induced. Whatever farms players find, Anet has an innate proficiency to nerf almost as immediately.

Maybe it’s just me here, but I find myself ducking away from not only Silverwastes but the Dry Top region as well, because the farming there isn’t fun, the people farming there are sporadic at best (often need to taxi people in), and the requirements to earn a recipe or an armour piece are beyond a joke.

I don’t find the requirements to get either of these items fun or necessary, they’re just pure annoying attempts to keep people in an area. Probably because we HAVE to be there to earn the required currency or the items needed to trade for the rewards, and imo at least, that’s not the way to go about it.

I seem to recall a conversation some time ago about reward for effort. This isn’t being seen with this particular JP.

About 10+ years ago I was a 2IC and moderator for a respected automotive forum based in Seattle. The owner of the forums knew who I was, where I was from, how I planned to help others and had no hesitation in promoting me to the position I held for about 2 years before the forum eventually melted down (literally, the server had no backup or redundant power supply), so once the hard drives broke down, that was game over.

Anyway that’s just a tid bit on how someone who isn’t quite as short-sighted as Anet seems to be, running a legitimate business operation himself, came about putting myself and other sub-forum moderators on with no geographic boundaries. It really does make Anet look quite silly.

Gaile, I really do hope the devs aren’t just gonna pack up and wander off as soon as they have some volunteers onboard. I echo the sentiments others are expressing here because that’s exactly what it appears as, from a distance.

I completed it for the rewards and the AP’s, nothing else. I won’t say how long it took.

The JP gave me a roaring headache, I found utterly no joy in doing it and it only reaffirms my hatred of jumping puzzles.

If a company makes a policy based on expectation of adverse reaction, then that’s exactly what they’re gonna get in return. Behaviour breeds behaviour.

There’s no win/win with their idiotic policy.

Nevertheless, somehow, amazingly it’s managed to stay on the first page of this sub-forum for more than two weeks. I’ll come on here once a day and it’s always there, page 1.

Just a quick point about GW1 content release speed: Guild Wars 1 was a much simpler and smaller game. Building and upkeeping an MMO is a beastly task.

GW1 was a very different game with devs that actually knew what it meant to release a full expansion. They got things right. This game still has a reasonably large playerbase from GW1 and understand that it’ll never be GW1 again, but still want the content that that game delivered.

I really couldn’t care less about JP’s, personally. They’re my achilles heel, I’ve never been any good at them and they frustrate me to no end. Having said this, I’ve done them all for the sake of AP hunting and I can honestly say they were some of the worst experiences I’ve had in the game. It’s a challenge for a good many of them, but not a fun one.

The one at Coddler’s Cove I couldn’t judge the gaps accurately enough, and no joke it took me nearly 4 hours to cross the difficult open section to finally get across to the chest. Being resurrected by the baby quaggans was cute – once – but didn’t help the pain of retrying again only to fail.

… it’s debatable that the point of this thread is reasonable in the first place.

A matter of opinion; completely subjective.

It’s funny people speak of respecting customer, but then turn around and disrespect Anet’s policy to withhold their future plans for the game without understanding why; it’s pretty ignorant actually.

“Comprehension is not a requisite of cooperation”. Maybe true as a militant standpoint, but in regards to gaming and customer satisfaction to keep buying more of your product, it’s absolutely false and ultimately counter-productive. You want your game to do well, you keep your customers informed of stuff, especially what they want from the company.

I think it’s also rather stupid for people to imply Anet doesn’t respect its players because they withhold their plans.

More opinion. Here’s a hint: you want people to remain interested in your product, you promote it however, wherever. Other examples have been pointed out already in this thread about enticing potential and current customers with early access to upcoming content. While that example is probably not entirely relevant here, it’s as good an example as you’re going to get, as to keeping people gunning for your stuff. When they won’t divulge even so much as a roadmap to what they want to do with the game in the medium-long term, then yes I believe trust is called into question.

Honestly, the goals of the game are pretty simple: Provide a gaming service to players and make some money doing it. I get people want to know HOW that’s going to happen but it’s really not that relevant.

It’s completely relevant. If all they’re going to do is LS then a lot of people will become disinterested (and moreso disenfranchised) with the game. Like I said earlier, it’s become a game for newer players who want to sink their teeth into this LS crap; the veterans want more content that is NOT LS-based. I think that’s been proven here already.

Anet’s policy is actually helping players focus on the value the current game provides and avoids misleading information that make people carry lingering resentment.

Oh, they’ve already created that resentment. Again, from a veteran standpoint in regard to those looking to make their own precursors and fractals players who put up with the reset; two classic examples of where they’ve either jumped the gun and announced something will be here when it still isn’t, and failed to communicate their intentions for the game, respectively. They’ve built up enough resentment in this significant portion of the playerbase alone.

Players simply don’t need to know what’s happening in development…

So very very wrong. I’ll say it once more — you want to keep players in your game then you tell them what you have coming up for it. For many, it’s the only way to keep invested players involved with the game, before they go out and play something else and leave GW2 behind. This isn’t about which game company is going to snipe whom for insider tid-bits that they can put in the game for themselves. Maybe to a lesser extent, but seriously, what can you bring out in a game that hasn’t been brought out or rehashed already? In this genre you can take an idea so far before it looks like something else you’ve seen somewhere before.

But in regard to players, and keeping them in the game (especially the people who have been playing since the beginning) then yes, you work up the balls to tell your playerbase (your paying customers) what’s going on with the game ahead. Fair to say that the policy is ruining player excitement. It’s good business to keep your customers (the playerbase) informed.

But then, what is there to discuss if there is no actual content to discuss at all? In the end of the day, it is still a massive hate speech against ANet’s design decision (which will not be changed) and little about people’s argument against precursor’s crafting.
That said, I’m not against listing it for people who occasionally come back to check the current states of affair. It’s just not the same nature as the other issues to me.

Did you even see how many threads I linked in my initial post here about it? That’s but a few on the controversial matter of precursor crafting, Anet’s design decision or not. It’s one of many perennial bugs up Anet’s butt.
