I just hit level 70…this is not sounding too promising for people just getting to end game via, mostly, solo play.
I know, right?! This is one of those times i miss heroes from gw1, being able to do content no one else would not bother with anymore.
That being said, yes i know this game isn’t what they promised, that is sad.
But at the end of the day i ask myself; do i enjoy playing this nontheless? Answer is, YES, very much so.Breaking their promise is the big problem when the promise is a major reason why I bought GW2 in the first place. I don’t play other MMOs because I don’t like gear treadmills.
So adding a gear treadmill is a problem. Second only to the lie.
As i said, i know it is problem for some people, but it’s not my problem.
I’m still enjoy playing it, so i don’t honestly care if they have broken their promise.
Might be selfish point of view, but at least i am happily playing while others sit here and rant.
This is something that some people have been afraid of.
Doesn’t exactly fill me with hope.
What server are you on?
After discounting the effect of the paid blizzdrones you still can never please 100% of the people 100% of the time.
Some people think dungeons are too easy.
Some people think dungeons are too hard. Some people think DEs cycle too quickly and like the one off events for a truly Tyria changing experience.
Some people don’t like the one off events because of their personal schedules. Some people think gearing up is too easy.
Some people think gearing up is too hard.Etc.
But at the end of the day the servers are busting at their seams packed full of people that love the game. That’s all that matters. No game will ever appease everyone.
Well said.
omg… this look like an AA meeting.
this thread needs a psycologist.i played 175h of GW2.
i’m level 73.i love the game.
and if the game give me 300h total ?
its still gonna be an amazing game.i think some people should question their own attitude toward a “game”.
and welcome back to GW2 if you ever feel like it. ill need some people to run dungeons with! i havent done any explo path yet.
Hehe, well i’m not gonna comment on that. I myself have no plans to quit playing this, but maybe play a little less than i had intended. Good game nontheless.
I just wanted to know what people are planning to do after they move on.
Glad to see so many going on to try out planetside 2.
We added 7 new people to our guild today
One girl in the guild gave an invite to her husband who had been holding back. It tipped him over and less than an hour after installing, he purchased.
Otoh, I hear WoW was a ghosttown this weekend
It was? Was i dreaming then, since i didn’t notice any drops in population.
Anyways, grats for your new members. Our guild (in gw, just to clarify) have had some new members also, despite all the negativity on the forums.
They should have just plopped an npc in the middle of lions arch and had them give everyone a chest like the people got who were able to complete the lagfest and been done with it.
Maybe given out the ring, but not Legendaries. Legendaries should only be given out to people able to join the event.
No comments on the legendary, but i do think that ring and the bag should be minimum of reasonable compensation from event that starts on way too odd hours in some countries. I did phase 1 and 2 (as much as lag/bugs would allow me to), but phase 3 being on sunday, i had to drop out at some point. Can’t stay up all night for one event.
I told all my friends about GW2 and the ease of end game. None of them wanted to play because they were already in love with SWTOR or stayed with WoW.
I told them about the gear progression changes and how the game is starting to become a gear grind since they seem to like that sort of thing, they still refused to try it because “why would I play another gear grind game that still needs a lot of development?”
I honestly had no reply.
That’s what happened to my friends (and myself?), we are all now happily still married to WoW, only myself casually still paying GW from time to time.
Event itself was amazing, really loved the first and last part, well as far as i got which was first reinforcement of the ancient karka. After that i just had to logout, can’t stay up all night for one event.
But really disliking the one time only, and on which time that event started, which was wayyy too late in europe (at least here on +2 gmt area).
That does seem to be common problem with people nowadays, nothing to do when story is finished or level cap reached.
Anyway thanks for the info, i might check out that game eventually.
It’s odd. Because The Secret World takes heavy influence from Guild Wars 1 on horizontal skill progression. That game feels more like a sequel to GW1 than GW2 is.
In that game, all the skills in the game are available for you to learn via a really big skill wheel. But of course you can only learn so many at one time, so you have to choose.
— Do you learn everything there is to learn for your chosen weapon so you get good at it?
— Or do you branch out to another weapon (you can equip any 2 weapons at any one time) and learn those skills to give yourself more coverage?
— There’s also passive skills scattered all around the wheel that might help you with whatever build you’re trying to make.
— For the fashionistas, the game also have suggested decks you can work towards. Completing them will give you a unique cosmetic costume that reflects the nature of the deck (assassin type deck? get an assassin type costume). Btw, each faction in the game has it’s own set of unique deck costumes as well – even for decks that are similar in function. For most of that game, it’s about when to learn what skill and in what combination to use them at (the skills work so well together). Even at endgame, you probably still haven’t learned all there is you can learn – and they’re adding new skills to learn pretty regularly (in the form of new weapons).
I heard that Secret World kinda flopped. How is it nowadays then?
Sounds kinda interesting game overall.
I miss skill hunting too, also free decking of skills instead of weapon bound.
Some of the little things.
But in many areas GW2 improved alot, most notably combat. Meaning the ability to cast while moving and dodging. If only the skill system would be from GW1…
Would you tip a pizza delivery guy who insulted your mother, whizzed on your lawn, and called you a drugged-out-freeloader before giving you that pizza? The pizza is the most amazing pizza ever. But would you even accept the delivery under that kind of treatment?
I’d propably kick him in the nuts, then take the pizza and enjoy it. Ofc he can forget about the tip tho.
That being said, yes i know this game isn’t what they promised, that is sad.
But at the end of the day i ask myself; do i enjoy playing this nontheless? Answer is, YES, very much so.
Yeah that was total bs, event started very late in the evening, nearing midnight here.
I couldn’t even stay til’ the end.
Would it really be that hard to make events start based continent they are suppose to be in, instead of making everyone follow US timetable?
I would go back to Guild Wars 1, but it doesn’t look like many people play it anymore. I just got Chivalry: Midieval Warfare and that is the most fun I’ve had in a game in a long time. I’ll also be checking out SC2: HoTS and CoH 2, but I won’t be going to another MMO. Can’t stand most MMOs, Guild Wars 1 was the exception.
Today i went to check out and there was actually quite nice amounts of people in towns, certainly not as much as pre-gw2, obviously. But 1 to 2 channels full of people, and trade chat was pretty active too.
Negativity on forums don’t matter for how people see the game.
Show me a official video game forum and we show you a river of endless tears. Forums is where people come to complain and vent.
You got that right. On every video game forum i see lots and lots of grieving.
From out of those class choices i’d say ele or ranger.
I haven’t played much of either, since my mains are necro & mesmer.
And healthy server… eu or us? From, eu i’d say Desolation and Blacktide seems quite popular and active.
I don’t particularly agree nor disagree, but i gotta voice out my opinion that personally i think removing “holy trinity” is mistake in the end.
Or then they did something wrong, i don’t know.
For now i wouldn’t mind getting trinity back.
3 months of awesomness? Didnt i get the memo? Because for me it was 3 months of open world zergfests and most shallow PvE content ever, weak storyline, weak character progression and insane grind even for simple crafting.
GW1 > GW2 in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT. Post and before Lost Shores Patch.
Not even moving combat? I love GW1, but casting while running combat seems to take win here imo.
I have been playing NBA2k13 but this whole thing has dampened my enthusiasm for gaming in general.
I might check out Elderscrolls but will probably not play it.
Firefall was mentioned, maybe I will give that a shot.
I don’t know much about Elder Scrolls online, but i wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up another failing pay 2 play mmo that tries to be next WoW.
As for Firefall, i can recommend that.
Back to my topic: I was hoping more people to jump back to GW1. I’d hate that game to die out completely. It remains one of the more unique mmorpg out there.
Well at least 800 hours is a good worth for your money, imo.
You/others might disagree.
Move on. Mainly because I can’t get back into the combat mechanics of GW1. Having to stop in order to cast?
I’ll have a look at PS2, cause that looks like it doesn’t have a treadmill built in yet, but I won’t be spending any time building my characters on an progression MMO for a long while.
Oh, I should say that I’m a pretty much exclusive PvEer, and the only reason I consider playing PS2 is because I don’t have to engage in direct PvP to be a credit for my faction. Just like in WvW.
I loved PS2 beta, but if you got somekind of phobia towards grinding, you might get disappointed.
You’ll need to do tons of objectives/kills to earn certs to unlock scopes ’n such. Or pay if you wanna get them without effort.
If you are ok with that, prepare for some kick*** fun.
NOTE: This is mainly for those that came from GW1.
Just out of curiosity, if/when you quit playing this from whatever reason, do you go back playing GW1 or are you just gonna move on completely?
(edited by Valtameri.2075)
Yeah, sucks that everyone has to follow the same timetable. Events started 10 pm here on europe where i live. Very freaking nice.
They should have make events start decent times based on where servers are, not one single launch time, propably designed to cater US people, even tho im sure it’s easier to anet handle it that way.
I have no objections against playing WoW, but i can tell you that don’t touch swtor f2p UNLESS you wanna see through story. It’s very restricted without paying but good for playing the story.
But also i’d urge you not to give up on gw2 yet. Maybe take a break and come back in few months.
Aren’t those suppose to reset weekly?
It would be nice little addition, doubt tho that they’re gonna do something like that anytime soon. Maybe next expansion, hopefully?
Aside from fixing the necro minion AI bug, i don’t really mind/care on what direction they are gonna go, since i’m totally fine with gear progression, or game without it etc.
I just hope they are able to keep somekind of playerbase no matter what they decide to do. I wouldn’t want game to die completely.
You just gotta dodge them, it even says so on the event information screen.
I quess i was lucky, honestly zero lag on todays event. And i was in overflow half the time!
Haven’t noticed a lot accessories on the dungeon vendors.
Is there a tab I’m missing?
There are two tabs on each vendor, with the default looking normal gear and the one with custom skin. Aside from that, i don’t think vendors will sell anything else. Unless i’ve missed something too.
No one should care if you got ascended gear or not if you are running old dungeons. Or even the new one if you are playing the earlier levels, not the most deepest ones where agony actually starts to show itself.
But i doubt those who whined over this, will listen.
-1 for another diablo 3 hate, honestly, i played d2 since launch and loved every minute of it, and yet i can’t seem to find what’s so wrong with d3, especially after recent additions to it.
+1 for everything else, i’ve gotten my moneys worth alot more than i do from majority of any other games. (Not counting WoW, i know i’m in the panda land but still so happy).
People need to just chill out and enjoy the game, not stressing over new patch that isn’t even released yet. Just pure speculation whine.
I think most (many, at least) of people run dungeons for the skins, not for stats. Sooooo… yeah. If not, that only proves that everyone still playing does indeed want gear progression thus making whine over new patch even more ridicilous.
Thanks for the 2 months of a great game and a great beta experience Anet. Sorry it has to die off with the introduction of a gear treadmill and a failed Radiance/Resistance mechanic. It was a good run, sad to see it go so soon.
Yes because you have actually tested this patch and… oh wait.
Exaggeration much?
Totally agree with you. I mean cmon, just wait for the patch to be released first, so much whine over speculation it’s unbeliveable.
Really ashamed of being part of this kind of community that we see here.
Thankfully it’s not that bad in game, lots less whining, and more excitement from what i’ve seen.
I still love the game, but what i read on the forum is really shocking.
I’m right there with you. I feel like looking through these forums is like wading through a sea of monkey feces and cat urine. At first glance you would think Anet must have assassinated Jesus on his second coming right after resurrecting Hitler and contaminating the world’s supply of Nutella to deserve this kind of feedback.
As to the OP, I’m glad you’re looking at this the right way. I haven’t got bored yet, but If I had, I would not be upset. I payed $60 and got more hours of fun than 90% of the games I’ve ever played including stuff like Oblivion and Fallout. I face palm when I hear people complain and make alarmist declarations that the game is dead/dying just because they reached level 80 on their first toon and got bored. No one does that for Skyrim or Halo, also products that only cost $60.
I agree here.
Got almost 300 hours, and still haven’t even seen orr fully (but i got one 80 level char), i blame you, ALT’S!
Money well spent. Probably not getting bored for a looong time.
At some point they might, but then again they’d have to put up extra cash to keep those underflow servers up. And even then those zones aint gonna stay populated forever.
Personally, at least in Desolation i see fair amount of people still at lower level zones.
Like we really needed another one of these threads..
Do we not? They abandoned their vision for the game and lied to players. All of this criticism is a predictable response.
Are there not like thousand threads about same thing? Why make another one.
first time on a gaming forum?
If only, i might still have some faith in humanity then. Really that hard to use search button, or is that too grindy for you casual people too?

Nah, you can already build up to be a little tanky with several classes, propaply that infusion just adds that to a little. I doubt there is gonna be “true” tanks.
Yeah you are not the only one,
Oh look another one of these..
How about wait til’ the patch is released and then freak out if necessary.
You can be quite sure it won’t happen just once in that day, that would be unbeliveable unfair to ALOT of people.
like 100% sure?
Imagine the "poop"storm that would come from it if it could be only done by once on a certain time, peole have jobs and such, not many can be there at that one particular time. Thus being bad slap in the face of every customer.
I wish more people would state their issues with the patch as simply as that, instead of going all “Boo hoo this patch sux imma gonna stop playing now”
And to the subject, yes i wouldn’t mind them making stats par with exotics on those, but then again i don’t have nothing against it either. Only thing people have right to be concerned about those stats are possibly their impact in WvW, nothing else. In pve that small stat update doesn’t matter.
Would be nice if this were true, but sarcasm smells all over it.
