I must agree with Vena on indicator on population of a server. I’m on Gunnar’s Hold, and we’ve been medium server for over 6 months, and only lately, about 1 month ago, we became high populated server.
Also like Vena said, basing population on some contest that is only known to one part of server is not really good. Hell I’m on Gunnars and only latetly did I find out we do Balthazar Temple everyday at 9 pm and Teq on mondays… and I’ve been playing this game regulary since first BWE

Guesting completely ruins all metrics as well, because I can be at “home” on server X but spend all of my time playing on server Y. The game is still going to count you as X irregardless of where you spend most of your time.

Not everyone runs the 0/0/30/30/10 zergway guardian build. Virtues have always been very powerful, and the boon stripping possibility with the reduced searing flames cooldown and renewed justice is also potentially very powerful. I gave this example as, again, 5 guardians because you have to think of how their abilities pile up acting together.

What sort of guardian would run any of this?

Searing Flames is a terrible trait for innumerable reasons but it is far worse in zergs where it does next to nothing. Why would anyone run this? Oh no… you removed a boon on one person out of thirty. At 10 seconds its completely unusable even in 1v1 situations where the boon count isn’t a couple of orders of magnitude higher than 1.

Shielded Mind? A stun break on a 67s cooldown that may or may not actually stun break anyone other than yourself? Why would you even trait into this garbage for an additional 10 trait points over Indomitable Courage which provides Stability to avoid getting stunned in the first place? Put those ten points into something actually useful… and don’t trait into Indomitable Courage but something actually useful.

There is such a thing as over-stacking guardians and you notice it very quickly when things just won’t die. Good group play vs good group play is not going to be decided favorably by “I have more guardians than you!”.

Warrior: Mandatory for any good group.
Guardian: Mandatory for any good group.
Elementalist: Mandatory for any good group.
Necro: Mandatory for any good group.
Mesmer: Mandatory for any good group.
Engineer: What is “water field” and/or shortest heal in the game.
Thief: Venomshare.
Ranger: Reroll anything else.

And when I say group, I mean a guild composition.

The only class that is truly worthless is the ranger.

That is absolutely false.
Underworld has been a Very High population server since the first days, it has never ever changed, altho it is almost a ghost server(even on prime time).

Not absolutely false, no.

Server status is almost certainly actively controlled by log-ons but the extent to which that number fluctuates based on some “lower” value is odd (which is likely the number of registered accounts that have logged within some X duration of time, because you need a baseline bottom to avoid returning players causing over-Full servers). This is why you can actively watch servers fluctuate in their rankings and, back before they raised server caps, server transfers required “blackouts” for Full servers.

Today we had a Wintersday event , organized by some people on the server. LA was almost full but guess what. many old friends from other servers came and even with this no overflow was created.
I will double type it: Today we gathered for a big give away event, people from other servers came also and we didn’t have an overflow

Why would this be an indicator of anything? The majority of the population of any server isn’t aware of “gatherings” or events. Not to mention that LA’s map cap is unusually large and thus a bad metric.

And crafting is still worthless!
Why? Because there’s only one skin for ascended armor and it can only be gotten trough crafting, it’s also account bound and not sellable, meaning that if anyone wants to get ascended armor they have to pick up crafting themselves and they will be making the time limited items themselves.

Crafting isn’t worthless.

The component products at 500, which are sell-able, have greater value than their net components. Something which was never true in the past.

Ascended Runes/Sigils: This is mainly an issue with acquisition of the exotic ones there is just a large number of worthless runes mainly due to the balance between supply and demand, while I think there are a number of balance tweaks needed to bring more in line I don’t think the total supply of all runes/sigils comes anywhere near the total demand for all runes and sigils which means over time runes and sigils value just gets less and less. It’s much harder to change that as it requires changing the value of a lot of current items.

Why not just let us Mystic Forge all exotic level sigils and runes? There are a plethora of Sigils (+10% vs. X) that no one uses for anything. Thousands of them, probably.

Time gates are a grind that drives people away from games. I can’t think of a single person that has said “Oh I’m so glad I have to wait 17 more days to get this item even though I have the mats right in front of me.”

This doesn’t actually apply to anything at all, does it?

You can BUY the only limiter for crafting (where mats would be a point of issue), but without the limiter the crafting would return to the Lv400 state of having no actual value to anyone who bothered getting it. Prior to this upgrade crafting was worthless, I could just buy my full gear set and crafting as a whole was a net loss in money with little hope of overcoming your loss to investment unless you got some bizarrely rare recipe.

Flesh golem was on cooldown in the second encounter. The discussion about “adapting” is moot when the base-line consistency in repeatability is null.

Aside from the rather nonsensical proposition of discussing a staged fight…

The issue isn’t making the spec bad, it’s invalidating choices. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind moving to a meta where hybrids are only slightly worse than mix/max, but min/max gets screwed every so often. But a hybrid Necro, even a slight off-condition hybrid, simply isn’t up to par. The loss in condition damage isn’t equated by the gain in power.

Auto-attack choices that get the best of both worlds (offensive pressure from conditions and tanking stats) shouldn’t be valid choices. Conditions are notoriously low investment for their potent return vs. anything even remotely physical based.

The fact that necro could 1-spam people into submission in tanking gear, should tell you how stupid it was.

Hard counters

in PvP

Posted by: Vena.8436

Vena.8436

Hard counters to an entire type of build should not exist. It isn’t an issue of a slight change to a build. Necros can’t just add in a utility skill to deal better direct damage to get them low. Even Flesh Golem makes it painfully obvious how difficult it is to deal with this.

Builds that can murder people with 1-spam condition pressure while wearing tank gear, shouldn’t exist.

Hard counters should not exist (at all) in game that is supposedly even remotely skill based. If you want counters, go play Pokemon.

One dimensions builds will always have “hard” counters because they have no variety of pressure.

You know… just like in MtG.

CC-spam warriors are stupid.

Zerker backstabs are paper, they sacrificed everything for that backstab.

The condispam necro that cries about this trait sacrificed next to nothing because they could still slap you silly with endless condition pressure even while wearing nigh-complete tanking gear. Now they cry because they sacrificed offensive power and one completely team-play negligible trait made their bunker spec bad for it.

Vena.8436

This might be worth considering in the short term, but, like I said in an earlier post, the idea should be to give fractals long-term relevance. What happens when people get all their 20-slot bags through fractals after eight daily runs?

Well, like I said, it drops off in value after you’ve finished getting all the bags and backslots (though I doubt you can do that in eight dailies, at least not the backpieces). (Though those new recipes sell pretty decently, the sigil at least, so thats a long term revenue source along with the +1 Agony drops which I can’t see ever dropping below a certain threshold due to just how many of them are needed to climb the resist ladder. So really, even on just the +1 Agony drops you net more than the 1.Xg.)

After that, its really all about the skins but even that has diminishing returns in value. I’d sooner prefer they add new skins (fractals only) and higher drops rates of Ascended Weapons/Armor than gold.

It definitely is a huge power creep and it shoudln’t have been implemented in the first place. Anyone arguing that WvW is supposed to be imbalanced is just trolling in my humble opinion. You don’t advertise your game for being imbalanced. In it’s current implementation ascended gear is just a terrible addition to the game.

I think the point is that unless mapcap vs. mapcap vs. mapcap fights occur, where every single player on the map is fighting in one huge clusterkitten, WvW has no way of guaranteeing that a fight will be fair, remain fair, or even come out as expected because of innumerable factors.

  • Server Z could show up randomly when X and Y are fighting.
  • An arbitrary number of players may show up for one side or another, completely flipping a fight on its head.
  • A lowbie can be downed and finished in an instant, completely reversing the flow of battle.
  • Chokes and terrain are far more valuable than your gear; as such the randomness of who losses what boon (ie. stability) can change the flow of battle.
  • Siege…
  • Etc…

That isn’t to say that WvW, for some, would be better if it followed sPvP gear gap rules, but others prefer it to be as lax with the restrictions as possible and with that comes gear.

When I heard that Anet had made changes to the dredge fractal, I thought it was understandable. Take out the exploits that allowed players to skip any of the content. But then I saw the champion dredge room and noticed that they even changed the pipe terrain and I eff’n lost it. Why the hell would they screw us over on a simple trick used all over the game (LoS)? Smart players using their environment to help defeat some enemies and they actually thought they should waste time and money TO “FIX” IT?! It was such a scumbag move in my opinion. Can’t wait to see how else they diseased fractals with their update.

The only pipe I know of in the clown-car room is the pipe that blocks all pathing and drops aggro? Otherwise the clown-car itself is LoS… and you just run in a circle, like clowns, and back-AoE the helpless Dredge and boss (and collect loot).

That room has zero difficulty to it unless you somehow stand-still and get OHKOed by the boss’s attack.

Considering I’ve bought (and ascended) four backpieces and gotten (an ever increasing) twenty+ 20 slot bags, I’d say Fractals are actually rather rewarding if you’re not looking at just pure GPH.

Comparatively, I’d have to run 10-15 dungeons runs for a single 20 slot bag, and god knows how many dungeons to buy all the T6 mats to make even just one backpack.

GPH Fractals suck.
Alternatives value though? Not so much.

I suppose when you run out of toons and bag slots, the value drops off steeply but… eh.

Vena.8436

The only real problem I know of with this fractal is just its NYAHNYAH spam, which comes from the dredge spam. But in terms of difficulty, I wouldn’t say its actually difficult just tediously long if you get the door-bomb side.

For one, people seem to really get caught up on the switch room but I have no idea why they go about it by rushing it. If you don’t kill all the mobs, they don’t respawn immediately and the only thing that spawns is the vet by the switch which you can pull.
Switch room:

  • Kill vets outside.
  • Aggro mobs and kill off most of them, leave one (squisher) player on the switch that is now cleared of mobs.
  • A tankier player goes on the other switch.
  • Two players kite and aggro anything that respawns, making sure to aggro the vet that spawns at the panel.
  • Fifth player uses the panel and is usually completely untouched unless he gets an unlucky aggro.

The real annoyance is the door bombing side which is just “throw yourself at door with bombs until it blows”.

The question was not whether the fractals 30+ had value…the question was does the time you put into it have value? Your opinion on whether the Fractals example has value does not actually further the question. It could be tiddlywinks that you spent 300 hours collecting. Does that have value even if it is meaningless to other players? Should that time-value be a concern to devs?

Tiddlywinks have been changing in value with every patch cycle, everything in this game has been fluctuating in value since launch since nothing is off the table for being used, re-used, retired, or un-retired.

There is no universal “time-value” to try and develop around such a non-universal concept is impossible. To some people, Fractals as they were, were stupid and adding new rules actually make them “not the same thing just with bigger numbers” is a positive step that gives higher value to their time. To others, like yourself, it comes at a cost of losing some time value on what they had already achieved.

Yes. In a “normal” MMO they do.

No they don’t.

EVE is the only game that fits your criteria. Any other MMO doesn’t give a rats kitten about how much time you spent or will spend beating a raid/dungeon before introducing the next set of gear which trivializes past gear and, particularly, devalues the harder to achieve gear.

Gems cost 7.63 per 100 making an entire set of flame armor ~61.04G

A set of T3 cultural costs 119G + 400gems or 30.52G for the crystals to transmute it to armor that doesn’t have trash stats.

149.52 > 61.04

What does math have to do with what I said? I said you could buy a legendary already… math has nothing to do with a statement of fact.

Yes. Arbitrarily changing the “rules of the game” is a concern for multiple reasons, not the least of which is trusting the Game Master. This can lead to the question: “what next?”

But Fractals past 30+ were nothing more than arbitrary number changes. You could have just as easily replicated the experience by taking off a piece of armor to simulate being on level X. To change the rules by actually adding rules… would usually be deemed a positive change.

It’s the fact that the most prestigious armor in the game is now offered to everyone, not just humans, for gems.

Why is it prestigious? Because it could always have been bought for gems.

So… you’re just mad that its being offered to everyone?

People who have tier 3 cultural armor have reason to complain. Not to mention, where is the Sylvari cultural armor for everyone? Where’s the Asura cultural armor for everyone? What about the Charr cultural armor?

I have several T3 armors… why would I care if they went into the gemstore? Did my armors suddenly get deleted in the process? If they start adding other races so that my humans can wear that armor, then good for me because it gives me some armor sets I’ve wanted for ages.

And no, that is not wrong. You can’t say, “That is wrong” and leave it at that. Where’s your proof? As far as I know, not a SINGLE piece of armor has been added to the game without the use of the gemstore. Please come back with evidence.

Well you know nothing then because several armor pieces have been added, free of charge. I won’t even count the Backpieces which have become rather innumerable, but they have added several shoulder skins, helmets, and gloves. There will soon be the ascended skin set for full armor. Weapon skins have been added by the truck loads in all forms.

Althought to be fair to the armor people, to buy human T3 armor, didn’t you have to be at least level 75? And now, you can get it at level 1 with gems….that would be time invested, if it was something you were after.

If levels were the issue then the world should have blown up already over the Book that gives you free levels. Or the boosters… or crafting your way to 80 with gold from gems while using boosters.

This game has moved from honoring the two cornerstones of an MMO (persistence and time investment) into something more closely resembling an old video arcade game: just insert coin to keep playing.

The only place this was violated was Fractals… where coin isn’t even involved.

Your time investment meant zilch to some armor to buy with gold, it has never meant anything to anything marked with gold as the only price.

The reason I compared the Elementalist was because it is one of the few 80’s I have that is built to be able to reach the 3.3k power I was using as baseline.

Which is a bit of ?? moment consider you could have rolled PvP characters, speced them all out in equal X power gear and just measured from there. It’d have been the same as I don’t think any of the involved skills have PvP splits.

The reason I question it, though, is because you’re trying to compare the melee damage of paper to the melee damage of heavies. These will not be equivalent and shouldn’t be compared.

The comparison to Guardian is more than fair tbh simply because mighty blow is the Guardians hardest hitting aoe ability on that weapon set, just at Earthshaker is currently the Warriors hardest hitting aoe ability on that weapon set. In that comparison the Warriors Earthshaker hitting significantly less, suggesting that there was a damage tradeoff for cc already, not to mention the build up and additional cooldown timer as a further tradeoff.

Mighty Blow is also the only ability on the weapon set that even does reliable damage, and it does not have a 2 second stun. Earthshaker is not the only reliable skill, it is not main-bar, and it does have a 2 second stun.

You can’t just compare their damage and then say “Because Earthshaker hits for less, it is fine!”. That hard CC makes it such that follow-ups also have a window to connect barring stun-break interference. Guardians don’t have such availability as Mighty Blow, irregardless of stun-breakers, cannot reliably set-up a hammer chain.

If you look a few pages back there was the Dev post that suggested they were okay with Hammer shock and Fierce blow hitting hard because they didn’t have Hard CC on them, however both these abilities hit like wet noodles.

They hit like wet-noodles in a vacuum. They don’t hit like wet-noodles in a Unsuspecting/Merciless Hammer chain. Guardians cannot even remotely set up such a chain when (a.) they don’t have traits that modify hammer in meaningful ways outside of 20% cooldown reduction, (b.) have no hard CC to set up hammer chains, and (c.) their attacks are as or even more so telegraphed as a warriors in hammer.

So in short, Mighty Blow rightfully deals a lot more damage when taking into account that it:

  • Cannot set up a hammer chain.
  • Has no hard CC -> At best has an immobilize and ward ability both of which can be avoided by simply walking to the side/away from a class that has zero cripples.
  • Has no partner attacks to chain into other than itself.
  • Is not a sixth weapon set skill.

yes sure, care to explain what exactly these “lot of suvivability” is ?

Probably somewhere between the “H” in Healing Signet and the last “e” in Berserker’s Stance. (And if you’re in WvW, somewhere between the “B” in Bogged March and the last “p” in Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup.)

Its hidden in their, so it might be hard to see.

What part of this is a skill that needs to charge up to get that stun don’t you understand? You don’t even mention the cooldowns. The lightning whip is an auto attack with no cooldown that is hitting harder. Mighty blow is on a 5 second cooldown.

What I’m more interested in is why you are comparing Earthshaker, a sixth skill with hard CC, along side five other skills all of which are buffed to mercilessly high damage thresholds by a couple of traits, to a main-bar hammer skill with zero utility for a class that has exactly one trait that modifies the hammer in a meaningful way. Mighty Blow and Zealot’s Embrace are just about the only attacks on Guardian hammer that even do anything for damage (you’re not going to stand around and get hit by the main chain unless you’re dead at your keyboard (and this isn’t even an issue of telegraphs, the chain is so slow and depends on a symbol that you’d have to be daft to take damage from the majority of it), and getting hit by Banish requires you to be asleep).

More, why or how did paper-thin elementalists get involved in this? You should have compared it to the main hand axe for warrior hitting harder.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if skill lag was so bad in, say, Tol Barad or Wintergrasp, Blizzard would fix it in the next patch. (Obviously those zones had some lag when they first launched, but it was never hours-long unplayable lag like has always been the case for active world vs. world.)

Wintergrasp was never fixed; it stopped lagging when the Vault stopped being relevant. At its peek, when Northrend launched, that place was unplayable. They never fixed Alterac Valley either, they completely gutted the original form and turned it into a 40vs40 mad rush to the lord’s room, the main forces almost never fought en-masse.

Aion had skill lag out the butt when the true Abyss keep sieges were happening in the upper layers. It was downright impossible to activate skills on the Lords and the Druagr would walk over you because they had priority in skills.

Warhammer was unplayable, keep sieges had to be locked to 200vs. and even then Brightlagstorms were unavoidable and stupid.

I don’t remember ever asking for better rewards and achievements in WvW.

It would take you maybe a few page flips through this forum to find a number of threads about rewards. Its been a topic in this forum for ages. Welcome to being in a community, where not voicing your opinion will hurt you because it skews perception.

Do you people listen to yourselves? Basically you are saying it is our fault we cannot play because we wanted WvW to be better than it was. Talk about incomprehensibly stupid….

And for the record I wanted what WvW is to be improved, not add PvE crap to it.

I listen to myself just fine, I have to deal with these queues too. I just knew months in advance what people were asking for was a stupid idea. Too many people wanted to be “rewarded” for WvWing, and now when they get rewarded, they complain that other people, who also like to be rewarded, started playing.

Its not hard to realize what will happen when rewards are added to a thing.

People wanted “better rewards and achievements in WvW”, and were incomprehensibly stupid in not realizing what such boons to loot/achievements would do to their ability to play.

You reap what you sow. Deal with it.

Previously, the orb buff from stomps got us out of the structures and into the field.

People just ran away because of of the triple-stomp orb buff.

The boon strip was a rather large problem for certain coughelecough classes who live off of their boons. I don’t know how someone can say, with a straight face, that ripping 2 boons on a spammable initiative skill with evade frames, wasn’t a problem.

Sigil of Paralyzation is not a minor tweak.

Stun breaking launch is not a minor tweak.

Pretty sure we just traded stunlocks for Immob locks

not so sure that’s an improvement – unless you regularly spec for immunity to conditions, teleports, or evade spam, I suppose…

You have far, far more access to condition cleanses than you do stun breakers. Guardians were the only class with an AoE stun break, just about every class has an AoE condi cleanse.

S/P got ether renewaled, nerfed harder than 100nades.
I am so disappoint. Bet there were some good stuff in the patch but my eyes are only on this unnecessary massacre.

Its a WvW nerf, I’m almost certain.

Better be a super short base duration or this will get ugly.

I think you can spam-lock for 5s before you’re out of init. Not sure, can I get confirmation or is it 5s per use?

Yeah I agree, I believe it was an issue but not “the” issue. The risk&reward for spamming f1 is still imbalanced. I mean, it’s a good start, but warriors need a bigger nerf than that, and that nerf also rolled over to s/p which is a face palm because they don’t do regression testing.

Warrior healing signet is the problem but now S/D isn’t just auto-win (I think?) against the class(es) that shuts down that warrior build. F1 spam of Skull Crack has a kite-able build-up time, the stuns that actually got affected by the Sigil just had a cooldown timer.

They are probably waiting to see how reintroducing mesmers and elementalists if S/D was nerfed enough, will affect the meta before they butcher healing signet.

I don’t think extra stun time was the issue—pretty sure it was the accessibility of the stun and the massive amount of passive healing they can attain even on a zerk build. What is your team comp atm?

The stun time was an issue, a really big one, particularly because is was rounding up all the spammables into needlessly long durations (this was true on mesmers too). The overall affect on Skull Crack is less but it hits kitten the low-fliers that were spammed. You can’t just chain them over and onto themselves because of the sigil anymore.

I’ll have to see in in play (and warriors will probably still be a problem with Healing Sig unless you brought a Mesmer to laugh at them) but I like the changes to Guardians allowing them to create condition “punishing” fields that should/could help punish wanton spam of condis on a node.

S/D is still rather strong but its less boons which is good.

Why do people misuse “treadmill” every time?

Treadmill is what WoW/Rift/Aion/etc does: Raid to get new iLvl gear to be able to do new Raid to get new iLvl gear to be able to do new Raid…

The state of this game is just alt unfriendly to some degree. The ascended crafting is probably the least alt unfriendly since once its leveled, you can churn out the items if you have the coin/supply stock.

Well…. I opened 312 loot bags and not the first WvW xp. GG

Wrong loot bag. Its the player dropped bag that spawns at your feet, not the bag (Heavy, Large, Medium, Small, Tiny) inside of the bag that you can sell on the TP.

Who knows ! Doesnt really matter, the fact is that having or not the buff doesnt make any difference in zerg fights. Numbers still more important.

Yup, definitely trolling.
