must be something else, because my shortbow doesn’t take more than 3 seconds to shoot another arrow, but i can only hit him once before he disappears again, how do they bypass the “revealed-3 second”s in wvw?

I can’t dodge every 3 second anyways to keep up with his perma stealth

to evolve,we need to fix the current problems and imbalances before introducing new features.

1)damage coefficients need to be balanced first,getting backstabbed 7k dmg when ur hp is 14k means death in less than 3 seconds.

2)reduce amount of CC chain ,a DR for CC would be good to avoid complete shutdown of a player who cannot do anything at all due to perma immobilise/stun/fear chain until death.

3)condition application versus condition removal, requires balancing.

4)cheap conditions should be removed-

A)confusion, what can you do if you have 25 stacks of confusion. Do nothing until you die,or do something and die faster.

B)retaliation, the solution is to either remove the boon or don’t attack until the boon wears off. Boon removal ability is not available equally to all profession.

When using ranged weapons in main hand, defending an attack by your opponent using an active defensive button, if timed correctly at point of impact,will reflect the attack,receiving no dmg to self and ricochets it back to the attacker and his allies around him dealing massive dmg.2handed ranged weapons causes AOE dmg, 1 handed ranged weapon does dmg to single target.

When using melee weapons in main hand, defending an attack by your opponent using an active defensive button,if timed correctly at point of impact,will parry the attack,receiving no dmg to self and counterattacking, dealing massive dmg.2 handed melee weapon causes cleave dmg,single handed melee weapon does dmg to single target.

Defensive button has 2 bar that is similar to dodge and is affected by vigor as well. They do not share the same energy so you can dodge twice and parry/reflect twice in succession as you can do with dodge now before the bar is replenished.

Certain weapon skills can behave the same way for this feature.

Just like ranger/thief shortbow can cause evasion similar to dodge on skill 3,
a weapon skill that can block and counterattack,will share this feature upgrade.

i usualy see thieves in wvw who can go back into stealth after just 1 second of coming out of stealth. Is it due to lag or runes/sigils/food? is there something a wvw thief can do that a tpvp thief cant? because I don’t see it being done in tpvp. but i do know that wvw has more variety of equipment that cannot be used in tpvp.

Based on a various random roaming encounter, i use a ranger with shortbow and when i see that thief pops out of stealth to backstab me,i shoot one arrow,it lands,then he disappears,repeats until i die because i can only get 1 shot in each time he appears before he stealths again.I’ve never seen this happen in tpvp before.

can anybody share with me the secret? so that i can find a way to counter this type of thieves.Sic em is not effective because I don;t have enough dps to kill it in 4 seconds. Thanks

How is someone supposed to “play normal” when someone has two accounts on the same team?

Oh, silly me!

The solution to #4 is already built into the MMR System.
Sure they can do this now, but eventually the disparity between their wins/losses will become too big and their MMR will prevent them from getting in matches together. When the MMRs of individuals become more founded and we start getting more people queuing, this should become a non-issue.

Yups,i agree with you that the MMR can prevent this to a certain extent but unfortunately,due to low population of spvp and when playing at certain hours,the amount of ppl queing is so low that the MMR does not become effective. As justin ODell has said,the range expands the longer a player has been waiting. So we need a harsher penalty for this kind of sabotage to effectively stop it from being used further.

We use Glicko2 for our MMR. When updating your MMR, we base it off the average MMR for the opposing team.

The current matchmaking will find 2 sets of 5 players that have are within each others MMR range. That range expands the longer a player has been waiting.

I’ve noticed this quite often when the popular maps and lion arch is nearly deserted and my tpvp queue is very long, a stray rabbit will end up in the match surrounded by shark,bears,tigers. Pretty sure the MMR has expanded alot hehe low population is killing the MMR

I’ve sent up my lvl 68 thief up the tower so that it can be parked at the chest, the trick is to use guesting and overflows.

I just run through until i reach a blockage,event that needs to be completed prior progressing.
Guess over to a high populated server and check if the path is clear in that world. You can guest twice in 24hrs. If u get overflow whilst guesting and can have another try if its not already open. If path is not clear and all guesting has been used up,i rotate between the 3 worlds until I can find one with someone attempting the event or until i reach a world with a clear path.

Combining the ideas of the various players here with our current chracter log in screen.

1)Shiverpeak area as last log out place.(example,can be tarnished coast/ascalon/kryta/orr themed as well)
2)Three Order banners displayed in background
3)Legendary collector will be displayed as a treasure chest and all ur legendary weapons will be scattered around the camp.
4)wvw kills will reflect ur coat of arms, it will be displayed on the body of the treasure chest.
5) spvp rank will reflect the single animal present guarding the treasure chest. rabbit/tiger/dragon etc.
6) Full Map completion will reveal a full moon or full sun, if not complete will be crescent moon in its various stages or sun obscured by clouds.

WVW using spvp equal standards- all level 80,all using same rating of gears,all available for free to help build diversity and ease of change.

Standard Manning
Equal quantity since quality can never be equalled.
100 VS 100 VS 100 per map. Excess or equal amount of players will create overflows of same map.
If not enough ppl it will change to 50 VS 50 VS 50. Imbalanced excess of ppl will be queued in edge of the mist.
If no one is even playing in one of the world,then WVW world population is broken and requires merging.

I will only accept the sPvP like armor if it has the full range of equipment available. I don’t play sPvP because of the lack of build diversity available. I don’t want to be pigeonholed into a full zerker build or a full tank build. I want a blend, which is impossible to achieve in sPvP, unless I am completely oblivious to how things work there.

Yups,SPVP don’t have much variety as PVE/WVW, but the concept of having standard equipment and max lvl available to all for free is the key point when I made reference to SPVP because I keep hearing people bragging about winning 2 v 1 in wvw when its most probably a lvl 80s with full exotic/ascended beating down on 2 scaled up low level players with blue/green/yellow equipments.

In real TPVP, with players who can actually pvp without hiding behind superior equipment or lvl ,its actually hard to win 2 v 1 unless using a build against the direct weakness of the other 2 builds.

Don’t let this thread die, its living story that needs to die if it continue being temporary contents only.

2 weeks of temporary content,play it or miss it forever is not a good idea.
It seems arenanet is trying to be different for the sake of being different.
Living story should be permanent so that even if u miss 2 months of content,you can take ur time to clear it and catch up with the rest of the players.
Taking that into consideration,make the living story non-zergy so that 2 months later when not much ppl is doing it,it can still be completed by small groups.

unfortunately,2 pets with bad AI will not make much difference in pvp/wvw since they still can’t hit a moving target and they get one shotted easily.

1 pet with better AI will be a better alternative and actually make the ranger class “work as intended”

“Don’t run into Outnumber fights” should not be applied to all scenarios.
For example, 2 opponents have just stomped ur team mate at the mid point and the capture bar is now left with just 25% to their full colour. If u turn back and wait for ur team mate,1 of ur opponent will stay and cap mid whilst 1 will chase u.
Sometime you have to run into the point,contesting it to stop your opponents from capturing it and hope that your teammate can reach mid in time to assist you. That judgement call will depend on ur survivalbility as well as other factors of course.

Dishonourable debuff is not enough.
Need more features and heavier penalties for players who
1)gives up and log out during match,
2)gives up and goes away from keyboard during match but stays in the map
3)doesn’t even participate in the match right from the start. (AFK all the way)
4) using a mule account and main account to enter tpvp with 2 players, if mule and main is in same team,play as per normal,if mule and main is in opposing team, let the mule account afk for easier win on main account.

This 4 issue should be addressed to ensure the game is not ruined for others due to bad sportsmanship/griefing/rigging matches.

Please share your ideas on how to further improve on handling of these 4 issues, below are mine.

To solve issue 2
Detecting afk- just like daily participation games of sanctum sprinter/keg brawl,etc,if ur inactive for a certain period,the game recognises it and issue u a warning that will lead to logging out. this detection feature should be applied to tpvp as well but in a different manner. If a player is inactive during a match for 30 seconds for example,the player will get a warning and 5 seconds to move .If player is active within 5 seconds,he gets a yellow card debuff that is visible to everyone but is only an indicator. If player remains inactive after 5 seconds,he gets a red card debuff that is visible to everyone but is only an indicator. 2 yellow cards will result in 1 red card.
those with red cards cannot join another tpvp match within 24hours.
This does not replace dishonourable debuff.

To solve issue 3
Pre match AFK check- once 10 ppl are formed, a confirmation box lasting 1 minute is given if u want to participate. Those who never confirm will be booted out of the solo queue,and someone else will replace that slot.Those who confirm will get an info box with X/10 confirmation,awaiting 10 confirmation,where X is the current number of ready players. Once 10 confirmation is received, another pop up is prompted to start the match.
The reason for 2nd prompt is because those who confirmed early and waiting for replacement,might be afk after the first confirmation.
Whoever doesn’t confirm 2nd prompt will be booted out of solo queue and a replacement will need to be searched again.
Once all 10 ppl has confirmed twice,they get warped into the map and will have 1 minute before the match starts.
This feauture should solve the problem of afk players at start of match.

5s only? What about bunkers or players holding their positions ?

20s seems to be good for me. Sometimes there’s not a lot to do, if the opposite team is bad.

But your “confirmation box” is a good idea, why not.

1)spvp glory rank grouping- rank 1-20 group,21-40 group,41-80 group. depending on ur rank,u should only be in a match where all 10 ppl are from the same group.

I don’t like this idea, once again you’re focusing on glory ranks, instead of skills.

Today I’ve made 9 SoloQ, with balanced teams (r30-r50), BUT I’ve lost the 9 games … Only one was very interesting (480 vs 500 pts), other were 100 or 150 vs 500. That’s why I don’t like this idea.

And maybe one more thing, ranks should be soulbound. Maybe you’re pretty good with your main, which is r50+. But it doesn’t mean your reroll is good too, prolly not (who knows). MMR should includes your alts skills and performances !

5 second is after the detection is set off,because the player has been inactive for a longer duration to even trigger the afk detection. it doesn’t mean “you don;t move for 5 seconds u get the warning”. 5 second is the reaction time to get out of a red card.If a person is actually bunkering or holding a point,he can react within 5 seconds,actually he won;t even trigger the warning in the first place since it actual player will move abit even when capturing a point.

for the rank grouping,its just an additional filter to whatever the mmr is already doing.to ensure rank 60,50,40 in one team does not decimate rank 1,20,40 in another team.

I doesn’t even have attackskills, but it has no time Limitation on being transformed instead….
The fastest skill on one still has the Mummy from the infinite Halloween Tonic. (But I think there are Mummy Tonics which aren’t infinite too.

Plus, leveling crafting through Exploration is pretty easy, there are tons of guides out there, but read them carefully before starting.

about 33.5 gold for the lightning catcher skin, 24 for the sun catch, and 60 for the wind catcher. All those prices are for Tarnished Coast Server though. Desert Rose is about 24 gold on Tarnished Coast though.

I think the TP does not segregate the prices from different world/servers.

To the OP,just keep it. No guarantee the price will go up but its not worth much now anyways.

Nothing new to Rangers, our pets can get one-shotted/one hit Knock out(OHKO) in alot of different way. Effectively shutting down the class feauture,reducing more than half the ranger dps and utilities/traits that requires a live pet. Take Liadri boss fight for example,so hard to keep ranger and pet alive whilst trying to kill her since her ohko AOE is covering so much space in that tiny room.

Use a ranger more and you’ll won’t be bothered at the next OHKO.

I’m just disappointed that the icon is generic and the model used doesn’t look like the enemy, rather a shamanistic one with green scales and no glow.

Although 50 is a small sample size,considering we can only obtain 5 per day, I rather use 50 one shot rather than waiting for 100 before they nerf it.

Below are my droprate.I would recommend hording them prior opening,i only get pristine toxic spores opening 5 a day in the first few days.

a simpler way is to use scaling. when 20 person zerg tries to take a supply camp,the vet npcs becomes champions that summon elite minions and the npc boss becomes legendary. Loot should remain the same,that way people won’t zerg since its easier to capture the point with less ppl so that the npc won;t scale up.

For character progession, i would say we need a Class Mechanic quest to upgrade its visual effect. I wanted to say its combat effects as well but i think Arenanet is doing a bad job at balancing the different classes so lets not make it worse.

Below is a simple idea for the Class Mechanic Quest using slyvari ranger named Shiny as an example. After hitting a pre requisite (lvl 80,all gw2 pets obtained,map completion) you can do the quest. The reward is a unique pet skin within a pet family that can be used over the current pet(eg feline/canine/spiders/etc)

Receives Mail from Caithe, she informs us that a firstborn,one of the best ranger of the pale tree is impressed with Shiny and would like to share a secret about rare pets.Meeting up with the firstborn, Shiny is told that there is a rare pet that can only be tamed by a great hunter. The first secret will be for free,subsequent secrets will need payment. You can select which secret you wish to learn,each secret is for 1 unique skin for 1 pet family (eg feline/canine/spiders/etc).

The secret will actually be information pertaining the location and the different conditions on how to capture the pet. . EG Show mercy in combat, bait the rare spider pet with certain food,reducing the pet hit points until it start to retreat to its lair, follow it to its lair and corner it,spare its life and tame it. Or Alpha male Bear combat, using a pet bear,you need to reduce the rare bear until submission,you cannot hit the bear and other pets are not allowed. Or Moa Racing, you will gain 3rd person view and control over your pet Moa and race the rare Moa pet in a race. Alot of different quest can be done this way.

The fun will be actually capturing the rare pets with the various method since it will be quite different from typical GW2 zerging or braindead dps + dodge.

All quest will be instanced to avoid interferrence from open world zerg/griefers etc

Some of the WVW Elitist that are posting in this thread have to realize that just because they are not capable of clearing the achievements efficiently in less than 3 days does not mean that others cannot do it.
Additionally, their condescending behaviour that only WVW elites are the only ones contributing to the server score and not the achivement hunters is abit nonsensical.
Lets see how well the PVE servers like CD fare after the top achievement hunters are done with the achievements.
Heinel,you are Ex KOME from Crystal Desert, bring ur WVW elitism for the next match and we’ll see in the 2nd week if you and your kind can give the same server performance we had during the 1st week of season one.
Posting in forums about how superior the WVW elites are compared to achievement hunters, will not affect the server score in the game. We’ll see if you and your kind can walk the talk.

When your competitors can’t beat you in the game, they try to beat you with their words. In tpvp you can thrash talk with your opponent,in WVW its slightly more difficult.Its understandable why it spills into the forums.

Why stop at just taking JP away from wvw. Might as well take away all gathering nodes so that no one can waste time gathering 20 items, more time can be focused on wvw instead of gathering.Take away all the wildlife too so that daily variety is also out. Since the argument is that potential achievement points is the cause of deviating the players from actual wvw. Remove all wvw achievements would be the best way including Map completion. There you go,perfect map for wvw elites. Enjoy your new map and permanent Outnumberred buff. Good luck maintaining a healthy player pool.

Crystal desert is mainly a PVE server. Attached is the score taken a few minutes prior this post. Achievement hunters seem to be helping alot with the score.

Once the achievement hunting has tone down after a few weeks since most would have cleared it by then,we’ll take a look at the score for CD again, if its significantly poorer than this than we can safely say its not the achievement hunters fault that the server is losing.

All that means is your server has a lot larger PvE population than the other two servers. Numbers and coverage is a very large factor in W3. 50 players randomly attacking anything on the map actually wins out against 20 players using sound strategy. It’s just the way it is.

These new achievements may help out PvE servers win a match, but they have the opposite effect on higher tier servers. Now the obvious question is: why should ANet cater to higher tier servers at all? Well, possibly because they have a lot more invested into it. By the same token, it would be wrong for W3ers to try and tell the PvE crowd how to best run fractals or dungeons.

We understand ANet is trying to get more players involved in W3, but adding achievements as an enticement is the wrong way to do it.

Understand your concerns,however no one solution can truly make everyone happy.
And i don’t think Anet can or should implement different mechanics to different tiers, thus a one size fits all solution should cater to the majority. They have the data to work with.Better to have crowded maps than empty ghost towns i guess.

All this really means is that there is even more emphasis on oceanic and sea, because while NA prime time queues mean that player slots get taken up by pve players who don’t know what they are doing (making NA time PPT less meaningful), overnight times can always benefit from more players.

Yups,well aware of that. But 50K+ lead doesn’t just happen in a few hours due to the time zone difference. Another point to note, not everyone sleeps at night, so people in different time zones can still play together.

I do blame the pve’rs. It’s entirely their fault that they ‘heard wvw was a good place to level’ and bring some ress bot fodder toon into the match up, then proceed to ignore the commanders trying to get things done by having an attitude like Verdelet’s- which is a typical selfish pve attitude to have- ‘attack the champ as soon as I get there nevermind others I can see on my map who are still on their way and might not get the kill, as long as I get mine hahahah’.

WvW is about organisation, group builds, proper equipment, and knowing what to do and when – then it is great fun. If you want to roam, then go roam- take a couple of mates with you, and while you’re roaming flip those camps, kill those dollies, etc.

The people who troll the commander for saying stack are usually one of two types- the first to become a res bot, or the one at the back running backwards as soon as the fight starts (who causes others to die, the fight to be lost, but fail to see it that way).

One thing has always puzzled me in wvw- why are people so afraid of pixels? I mean, it’s not like you die when your toon does, why do so many turn tail as soon as they see equal numbers or try and target the front of the enemy’s zerg whilst running backwards?

I haven’t even started to troll and it seems I’ve strucked a soft spot in you. Wow, didn’t know I’m that efficient. Peace bro,no need to make up stories of me. You can’t handle me anyways May your beloved organisation continue the good fight whilst I enjoy the game as it is,a game. Cheers young one!

Thoughts on Sic'Em after the patch

It would be better if SicEm actually forces them out of stealth, EG when the thief cast shadow refuge,using SicEm after he has casted gives the revealed aoe debuff. Awesome way to mitigate shadow refuge res or stealth stacking.

The animation and cast time for SR is too short to use SicEm as it is now since it will only work if you have a target.

I’ve nearly played 3K hours on my ranger over 13 months and would like to help you since I tried various build and all aspects of the game GW2 has to offered but unfortunately you post this a few months too late.
I don’t care anymore about the ranger class being bugged,underwhelming,non responsive or whatever it is to the ranger and pet mechanic,i will just play and live with it.

But i do recall a comprehensive thread that has a compiled list of ranger bugs.It was stickied last time. Suggest you find that thread since it will help alot.

Too much wvw is making some ppl lose perspective it seems!

I’m going to troll the next commander who tells me to “Stack”.
Not gonna listen to a person who thinks his 100G blue map indicator makes him the next God of War haha!

In the real world, you don’t become a general or commander overnight just with money(unless the corruption in the military is extreme) So the easiest way is to mimic the real world, let every aspiring commander work their way up from the bottom. To be eligible to be a commander you need to meet some wvw requirements in terms of amount of times capturing and defending the various important structures.EG 30 SMC captures100 SMC defence,X Keeps, Y Towers,etc. That would give some credibility and assurance that at least the commander has the exposure and experience in actual wvw prior leading others.

For actual implementation to minimise disrpution in the live server-
In PVE world, anybody can display the commander icon after purchasing it for 100G.
in WVW, after purchasing the icon for 100G, the icon will be only visible to those in squad, squad chat and supply info function remains.To unlock the icon to every ally that is not in your squad,you require to meet the requirements of the abovementioned criteria.

Some people have better time management skills,just FYI.

The problem is that to get it completed this quickly, it’s highly likely you weren’t actually providing optimal support to your server.

IE, killing dolyaks when it didn’t matter. Repairing random things before building siege that provides much stronger immediate defense. Doing merc camps rather than helping defend. Doing JPs which contributes absolutely nothing.

You didn’t read my first post.
Using a ranger,I’ve assisted in the capture of stonemist more than 5 times,7keeps,more than 30 towers,more than100 supply camps,150+sentries,defended these important structures because they cost so much to upgrade and it gives quality of life when playing with WP in keep and SMC,killed and stomped more than 450 invaders. All in less 3 days, you say I don’t contribute to my server score? All the above helps the server score.

I can do the BL JP faster than most ppl can capture a supply camp solo. If they can even capture a supply camp solo in the first place.

Merc camp is easy,just pass by,kill 1 enemy or res the merc npc then move on. Less than 10 secs of your time.

Time management is about playing smart,not playing hard. Not going to further waste my time explaining to those who can’t accept that there are other players out there who can play this simple game in a more efficient manner.
