Necro not looking good for PvE in HoT

Speed is very important if you don’t have a way to stop CC or catch up to your target. That said, everything else fundamentally wrong isn’t likely to be fixed. Also as many have stated already without a dev who is dedicated to playing this class being the one working on the balance we will likely never see the changes needed prior to HoT. I’m not taking anything away from Robert Gee but if your passion isn’t this class and it isn’t something you play continuously how can you ever hope to recognize and resolve all the issues.
It will only get worse if they follow through with more difficult content that every other class handles better.

Im unsure how often npcs log out of game and eat cheerios

Sad thing is you’re right, we will likely only do well against a stationary npc that won’t move when we take forever to wind up and slam down the GS lol.

I get that we don’t know where we will be I do, but one look at the Reaper Poi and it isn’t hard to see that the greatsword movements are slow and cumbersome and as such are telegraphed far enough in advance to give a player every opportunity to avoid them, especially considering the nerf to chill. Yes I know we haven’t beta tested it and yes I know a lot can change but many existing issues today haven’t been addressed and frankly it doesn’t give me hope they will be. Nobody at Anet even acknowledges there are issues, just spend 5 minutes trying to find feedback from Anet in the Necromancer forums.

I’d like nothing better than to beta the class I plan to play if only for some insight and potential to give some feedback because frankly if we don’t it could launch with horrid balance issues which could stay forever, just look at minion AI.

I encourage Anet to set the next beta so we can pick our class and specialization to get an early jump on correcting any flaws.

Huh? 8 stacks of might to allies isnt support? dropping AoE blindess and healing wells isnt support? teleporting downed allies to you to heal them (which is really useful in dungeons) isnt support?

I dont understand how you can say necro doesnt have damage after all the videos that have been released. Anyway that debate will end when someone gets crit with a max damage Executioner’s Scyth with air and fire procs.

Oh please do link all these videos of how bloody amazing Necros are compared to every other freaking class. Please LOL! You’re right and everybody else who plays a Necro is wrong, 1000 posts on Reddit are wrong, please, just don’t.

Title is too short to capture the thread but in a nutshell the Necro is not looking good for the rumored challenging group content in HoT. Really, if many of the current issues aren’t fixed before HoT i am not looking forward to being ostracized any more than we are today. What bothers me most is the trend seems to be continuing with the reaper. The shouts look dismal compared to Ele’s and yes i know it isn’t final but i don’t hold out much hope because the fundamental flaws that exist today have persisted for 3 years with no end in sight. Is Necro totally useless, nope but every other class has strengths we cannot match up to nor do we bring anything to a situation another class can’t do better.

The fact is they are sticking to this slow lumbering Hammer films monster vision which makes us a survivor but in the end it isn’t enough to justify being needed in most scenarios. The GS skills shown in the Reaper preview may look good on paper damage wise but don’t mean squat if by the time you land the skill your opponent is logged out eating a bowl of cheerios.

Don’t kid yourselves, if nothing changes we will be ostracized one hell of a lot more than we are right now.

Nobody there cares jack about this class at least there is certainly an absence of any concern about our plight just research the boards it speaks volumes.

Anyone who thinks Necro is fine or balanced needs their head examined. I have a poorly equipped shatter Mesmer that severely out damages my fully geared Necro, not to mention my warrior and thief. Far too many issues to make this class truly viable or competitive and it seems they just don’t care. It’s like fighting in tar and they continue to think DS is the alternative and frankly until someone can see the forest for the trees this class will languish.

Maybe we’ll have our day in the sun with the Reaper but after seeing the great sword skills they are still ridiculously slow and it still has horrible mobility, horrible.

“Necro’s lack a good form of active defense” -> “But you have DS!”“Necro’s lack a good ranged power abilities” -> “But you have DS#1!”
etc.

This is exactly the problem, DS is not the answer to everything especially in it’s current form. The fundamental issues revolve around this because they limit their thinking to this one particular answer which is not suited to resolve all existing issues. Until whoever is forcing this mantra allows for some flexibility in fixing the class we are doomed to be forever the last worthwhile class in most every aspect, especially now that the Revenant is being introduced. I just wish a dev would finally speak to necromancers and spend a little time actually compiling feedback from players but i won’t hold my breath.

After 3 years i don’t think Anet has a vision for necros! It is the most underwhelming class and has been for 3 full years now. There is zero understanding of how to balance conditions or corruptions and being sub par in both all the while being an unmovable blob is compounding this tenfold. Frankly i love my necro but every time i take him out it’s like the scene in Raiders of the lost arc…swinging my blades around all cool and skillful like and bang someone pulls out a gun and shoots me!

When I logged on to do Teq, I did see I was doing a huge amount of damage but, since I had just logged on and the game had automatically assigned the traits to my lvl80 guardian I had no way of knowing what was causing that damage until Teq was over and I could ask around. So, no, not everyone is aware of what is causing their huge amount of damage.

I’m sorry but I don’t buy that. It would be different if we were taking a 20% increase but going from doing a 5 or 10k crit to 200k is not something anyone wouldn’t catch on to in a couple minutes let alone an entire boss fight. Do they need to run out and ban them, no because it is a major issue they have been aware of and haven’t acknowledged so it falls onto them at this point and banning would not be justified. That still doesn’t excuse the fact that people are willing and knowingly taking advantage of it and I simply can’t buy a 20 fold increase as going un noticed.

Quests for your mind

Vlad Morbius.1759

Although I did enjoy the Karka quest in LA one thing that has jumped out at me over the last while is the lack of any complex quests. Everything is geared around one’s motor skills and dexterity and nothing really mentally challenging has been done for questing. I understand the game is geared towards a general audience, but I don’t think there would be any harm in introducing quests that actually take some smarts and deductive reasoning to resolve.
I always go back to the time I played AC and how many of the quests actually involved some compellingly complicated puzzles to resolve, even Rift got that down fairly well. I am not sure what is on the table for HoT but I would to see some real deeply engineered quests that would involve some time and effort to resolve. I would suggest something along the lines of Mists or Zork as a model to look to in order to add some dimension and depth to our day to day questing experience.

So, why would anyone ever bother buying Pavilion or Airship passes if you can access basically the same for free over there, with a nice teleport from everywhere and back there directly.

They could easily remedy that by making the vendors accessed with the passes give a small percentage gain when using them, like selling and getting 5% more value etc. Give the convenience to all and bonus to those who want to purchase these items.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vlad Morbius.1759

Vlad Morbius.1759

How anyone can consider trinity as a more complex PvE system is beyond me, in fact it’s polar opposite resulting in the dumbing down of encounters. Non-trinity forces all players to manage their own resources, which include DPS, healing and agro; that in itself requires more skill than single role players in a trinity system. Sure not all encounters in GW2 are all that hard, that has been steadily improving but in no way shape or form can one argue trinity would add difficulty and certainly doesn’t make for better players.
That topped with hours spent sitting around spamming for healers and tanks, thank you but NO!

Nicest community?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vlad Morbius.1759

Having played PvP in several games I can tell you flat out this is why a great many PvE players don’t want anything to do with PvP in general. You know I see so many people try and defend PvP as not being abusive and complain that it’s a stereotype thrust upon them or a stigma that was attached in another game following PvP communities and isn’t deserved, well that’s utter BS! PvP communities got this stereotype by being exactly what they are so it makes me laugh when I see players trying to defend it as unjust or not that way here.
PvP in any game is a fairly toxic community and this isn’t a stigma in fact it has become a dogma and that is the underlying reason many PvE players avoid it like the plague.

Would You Like 10-Man Raids (Poll)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vlad Morbius.1759

Vlad Morbius.1759

Raids =/= challenging content. I’d like some challending content that does not requires me to rely on other peoples performance.

This is exactly what I believe most people really want when it comes to what people define as raids. The whole casual/hardcore thing is, in many ways, a false dichotomy. A ton of casual players want challenging content, they just don’t want to or don’t have time to grind for things. The biggest issue is that raids tend to be a long involved set of content which is built around hard mechanics that require time to work through. Also raids are most often designed with a large group of people which in itself throws an unwanted and most often problematic wrench into things; it is very difficult to coordinate players to play through the raid.

Today’s gamers for a large part just do not have the time to invest, and most often their play time is not flexible enough to be coordinated with an entire group of people who have their own RL schedules. I think if a raid style environment could be developed not only for groups to complete but can also be designed for solo or pairs of players to complete it would be far more successful. It isn’t that we don’t want the challenge we just want to do it when we can fit it into our often busy lives. Gone for many are the days of being able to sit at a computer for 5 hours slogging through one area of a raid dungeon.

I would love to see a raid that would allow you to save your progress along the route much the same way as many console games are designed and that you could work away at your own pace over time to complete. Make it difficult, make it challenging and in depth but make it so I can tackle it without losing large chunks of progress and not be required to invest a half day at a time. Oh and while I’m at it, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the game that finally and successfully designs dungeon/raid content that can scale to players from 1 to 50 will be the most successful in the industry.

For those who aren’t familiar with her work I can tell you it left a horrible taste in my mouth when my children played Maple Story and pestered me non-stop wanting to buy stuff she introduced.

As far as the verticality of the new areas I like the idea as long as it isn’t all designed as some gigantic stupid jumping puzzle. I doubt that based on all the paths you could see in the video.

What Will Community Do If HoT Is Not Xpac

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vlad Morbius.1759

Vlad Morbius.1759

It’s funny because from my perspective the game is already far larger than other games in both scope and landmass. What it needs is content within the existent areas.
But then players seem to hate that idea on average and would rather see older content constantly atrophied while a steady stream of a handful of new zones is fed. See: MMOs.

Is a bit of a weird one to me because I would have thought that a huge always-current-level open world is more desirable than a tiny current area depending on xpack.

Well if you go into the game and open your map you will see a heck of a lot of unopened land mass which I’m certain is there for a reason. I think it’s quite obvious the world will expand and yes they likely will return to areas and add content much the same as they have done through living story.
I think it’s sad that should the game grow with something like an expansion people automatically think the remainder of the world will turn into a dead zone. People still return to the old areas today and while they may be empty for a while it’ll all be back to normal when the luster wears off. It also gives players that much more to go back and revisit while content is added, nothing wrong with that especially with the Megaservers.
Oh and as far as largest land mass in an MMO, it doesn’t even come close to games like Asheron’s Call or even Vanguard, not to mention upcoming ones like Black Desert and they were seamless. Give Anet a chance to open all of Tyria before you call it a failure.

it is theoretically possible to raise a level cap, without increasing the required level of gear.

honestly though, in this game, levels serve little to no purpose other than gating you from monsters.

These are my sentiments as well, they serve little purpose past the point of the final weapon skill at 31.

I cannot believe people are arguing over the probability of an expansion. How could that possibly negatively impact the game? How can adding to an amazing world like Tyria ever conceivably be considered a bad thing? I absolutely see them continuing with the living story to some degree after this launches as obviously those mechanisms were put into place while they built this expansion and will likely continue on while building another.
I’ve said all along the best thing they could do was both and I think that is exactly what they’re doing, how amazing is that!

Me too. Just looked up PAX info: (bold highlight mine)

“Guild Wars 2: Beyond the Point of No Return
Join ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O’Brien and Guild Wars 2 game director Colin Johanson for an exclusive sneak peek at what’s next in Guild Wars 2 and be among the first to hear how we’re setting up a new framework for how an MMO can grow its universe. The Living World was just the beginning.”

An expansion would not be called a new framework.

I wonder if “a new framework to grow an MMO universe” means we’ll be getting a tablet app expansion, and potentially be able to grow our characters via adventures in the app. Data will be transferred back and forth between platforms.

Like I posted yesterday, they had to say something regarding their purpose for being there so how else could they phrase an expansion without saying it was an expansion? It’s them trying not to spoil the announcement prior to Pax, plain and simple, it’s called spin.

Anyway, there are multiple ways they can bring this forward but as many have mentioned, companies do not trademark something unless it is a product to be sold and as such you can color this any way that makes you feel comfortable but it will be an expansion that may come in several forms one of which I’m convinced is a box format just for the pure monetary gains they bring. There will likely be a way to purchase through download using gems which is not something that has happened in the past and this also allows for people to use their in game gold to convert to gems.

Really, what about Tengu, Palawa Joko, The Empire Of Dragon, Sunspear? Why do we need all these new stories? Why can’t we just expand of what we already built in GW1?

I suspect this is only the 1st of several expansions and I’m sure at some point it will be redirected towards Cantha, they know how popular it would be.

If they can’t use it till 8th of april.. We’re gonna be fighting mordre for a long kitten time ://///

I’ve trademarked in the past and you do most of the work upfront and the time is more of a legal formality to ensure someone who may have it can come forward. I really don’t put a lot of stock in that as a concern to be honest.

The time of day is irrelevant. When Arenanet et al filed for a trademark, they knew word would get out almost immediately and will have already discussed when and if they should respond to hype.

Listen to Vayne and Wayne and others who are cautioning against the expectations inherently part of traditional expansions. Arenanet et al has been promising us something ‘like an expansion’ but not monetized as a traditional expansion for a while. Maybe ‘IT’ is finally ready.

I don’t care if it’s paid or not it will be a large expansion of content which is what most everyone has been clamoring for. I still believe it makes more sense to make it a paid boxed expansion primarily due to the potential for bringing in more new players and that I believe is what all the changes to existing content such as NPE was all about.
It may also be cheaper for those who already have the game such as a gem purchase format but all in all I believe it’s an expansion so either way I’m fine with it. I’m very anxious for Pax for the announcement but also so we can finally put all of this speculation to rest.

Paid = boxed in your post, right?

Yes, I just see far too many positives to doing it this way, especially coupling it with the original game, it gets it out there for almost everyone who might be interested.

Even though it was my suggestion that HoT will be the name for Season 2 to purchase, I am quite sure that this will not be the only thing they gonna announce at PAX.

I’m sorry but just how does this theory line up with what was said for Pax, “Living story was just the beginning” Purchasing LS2 with this name is still just living world so no I don’t buy that for one iota. Besides how badly do you think this would be received considering most got it for free and those that didn’t paid a much higher price than you’ve suggested earlier. Talk about serious backlash, this concept would be a PR nightmare.

Also one must give Anet personnel some credit, there is no way they discounted the fact this would be found and brought to light. This is a very, very strong indication of what’s to come whether it’s a paid expansion or a free expansion (my money is boxed) it is happening.

You are aware that most employees are probably not even up yet, right?
If we go the whole day (their time) without a word, I would agree, but right now they most likely haven’t even seen it yet.

Yes I know they may not even be up but there are in other countries where the game is so believe me when I tell you that if this was not a reality someone would be getting a phone call and they would squash this ASAP. This won’t be any normal backlash, it’ll be in every online site and would be disastrous to say the least.
