So there are invincible guardians and engiees who heal for more than you can deal with 2 people next to you and many other cheap builds you can use. But so far the most frustrating one I’ve seen, is this cheap Stun-Warrior. I’m not even joking when I say I don’t get to click a single skill on my ranger, and that’s wit having some decent HP(carrion gear) and defensive traits(pet takes some conditions and knockbacks etc.). Today my entire team has been brutally murdered over and over again by this cheap warrior using hammer. I’m not sure what to do, if even with my defensive things, tons of dodges, fears and pushbacks, this warrior still can just jump on me and kill me in seconds, shouldn’t it be nerfed? What’s with the cooldown of this thing? I get stunned and knockbacked over and over again. Nerf it, please…a lot. That’s coming from a guy who’s favourite class is warrior.

I had multiple matches in which I chased after engiees with 1 or two of my teammates and we were unable to kill him. It wasn’t even about aim. He blocked most of the attacks, had a huge HP regen and still managed to outrun us in the end.
I don’t dodge randomly.
I do have a warrior, I just didn’t use hammers much because I dislike them.
I’m not saying warriors are unkillable, I’m saying you have no chance of hitting THEM with constant stuns, knocbkacks, knockdowns and interrupts. Learn to read.
Carrion amulet has been awesome so far. I win most 1vs1 fights.
I’ll be as whiny as I like.

why are you not getting the OP’s point? a warrior can spam interrupts like there’s no tomorrow. everybody knows that. besides, i already gave this guy a good advice to use Rampage as One. That is the best defense a ranger has against a stun-spamming hambow.

It’s his kittenty attitude that kittenes me off.
I do think warrior is still not fine but that is mainly cause of strength runes+might stacking warriors can do by themselves while being tanky.

Oh and apparently his whole team got brutally murdered by 1 warrior as well.

He also said he had a warrior but refused to use hammer, even if it’s for actually learning it which would help to fight against it.

But anyway, if you don’t run a tanky bunker build, don’t fight warriors at point.. keep plinking at them from range until you feel confident to go in on him.
If you are not running a tanky build you shouldn’t be defending vs one warrior alone anyway. But if you have to defend and you know you won’t get help, you might as well not sit on point and die but rather let him have the decap but kill him instead.

Hambows are very kiteable. Especially now when pin down is really easy to spot.

If he had actually asked for advice in a non stupid way, i wouldn’t have this tone.

His post is basically like if i would go:
WAAAH Rangers spam 1 and spam evade and i can’t hit them no matter what, nerf them all to t he ground.
or
WAAAAH Mesmers do a lot of burst dmg, have clones which confuses my brain and spams interrupts. NERF THEM ALOT PLZ CUZ I DNO WAT DO.
NERF IT TO THE GROUND WITHOUT THINKING AT ALL.

Yes warriors do need some nerfs, or rather rune sets and sigils and healing signet but slightly buff some of the active heals in return . But “Nerf it, please…a lot.” no they don’t need a lot of nerfs.

I had this idea that the lord would get 25% dmg reduction as well for each npc alive, or that he got sameish mechanic as those champion mobs in pveland has, unshakeable or whatever it’s called.

You mean the white armor set you buy from the armor merchant that only sells 1 type of armor for each armor class?

yap, the stats doesn\t matter in pvp afterall, it\s still decided by your amulet(hint: press “pvp build”.)
Unless you are talking about skins purely, then yeah you need gold or play more to unlock the transmute charges, +spend a few karma in wvwvw to get helmet/shoulders at lvl 1-2

These 45% of something Runes need to go and balance with everyone else. The maximum of this type of rune should stay 30% like everyone else(exp. Rune of the Pack, Rune of Hoelbrak…)

All Runes with condition/boon duration buff should stay max 15%. This should be the limit to prevent any kind of imbalanced build that could pop out of nowhere.

On the other hand, Sigil of Battle, this sigil also playing a role of some classes start carrying a full stack of Might running around like he was born with it. The Might stack should be 2 not 3.

Build diversity doesn’t mean everyone AutoAttack has the damage of Backstab.

you will still have full runeset, amulet.. only thing you need to buy is weapons really, for a few coppers.
You just won\t have shoulder\s and helmet for skins.

What i’ve noticed:

Condi engi: They still die if you focus them, have your necro counter him. Nerf baltha runes a bit and not the trait, altho i would prefer if i could control the burn somehow.. or if they removed it completely and made engi function as condi damage dealer without it.

Necro: just don’t duel them and nightmare is less of an issue. Dhumbfire is still good if used well, they can have better survivability but lower damage. And they still pretty much hard counter engis.

Thieves: PW still strong, higher initial burst but they die a lot easier now with no lyssa.

Warriors: hurt with strength, but they die easier with no lyssa.

Mesmer: Scary at times.. their burst is quite insane at range, powerblock is broken as crap right now but it’s getting fixed but i do hope they keep the 10sec interrupt on skills vs thieves. Torment shatter feels pretty strong too.

Guardian: Bunker guardians can actually put out some decent pressure now with intelligence, not amazing but it can provide okaaaaay dmg >_>.

Ranger: I haven’t seen anything to special beside it’s actually quite a bit more fun to play now with pets being pretty responsive(it bumped up quite a lot on my fun to play list).

Ele: pretty good now! Not overpowered and not super weak, probably the best place in terms of balance of the classes tbh

Might stacking is getting incredibly stupid. Make the cap a bit lower in pvp perhaps? like 15 or so.

Lyssa nerf: LOVE IT

Strength rune buff: Way over the top buff.

Balthazar runes: Too much.

Traveler runes: Loving them.

Sigil stacking is quite stupid with certain setups.. Shouldn’t have allowed double on crit or double on swap to stack.

I much prefer this current gameplay/meta over the super sustain, lyssa thing we had going on before and i’m enjoying the patch quite a bit.

Low ranked bad players are going be bad, high ranked players still going to remain bad..

Now i just don’t have to facepalm at higher ranked players being just as bad as new players(surprising large amount of those actually).

MMR never had anything to do with player rank anyway and it would be stupid if it did.
And matchmaking with low population is going to fail anyway, perhaps a new reset and a ton of new players and lower starting rating would help though(maybe the new ladder they have been talking about will help?!)

Wouldn’t mind if you could see your own “elo/rating” though!

Well, hope that helps. Have to admit there usually is a lot of clipping with shoulders and shields on a charr (not with this set though). And of course there is tail clipping, but that can’t be helped.

On the plus side : you can hide the Big Ol’ Bomb in your character.

On the minus side : people tend to focus you more.

On a side note, where you did get that smiling hood? it looks fabulous and I’m sure I’ll be unable to get it but I have to ask.

I bought it during the first halloween event they had in GW2.

So i have this awesome looking asura(see attachments).

But i recently got an urge to make a bigger engineer.. like norn, charr(altho i love the race i HATE the clipping) or human. But i really can’t seem to decide between the races+sexes.

This would be vertical progression and defenitely NOT something I want to see. Also not the direction ArenaNet wants to take PvP as far as I’m aware.

Seems the complete opposite as they already added heals that requires skill points to unlock and now adding traits which will cost gold to unlock.
Tying it to pvp ranks would make more sense and getting to rank 20-30 doesn’t take long.

Adding rank restriction to ranked games make sense as well so people who want to do ranked games actually are forced to have some god kitten experience before joining it.
Which is also the reason to add a unranked queue.

If i cannot buy all the traits for like 10gold i’ll not quit the game, i will however start looking for trustworthy gold sellers(gem conversion rates are horribru). I cannot be bothered to play the market place or farm pve just to stay competitive, if i wanted that i’d play wow or wildstar…
Or you gift the unlocks to pvpers who are already rank 50+ in pvp.

I doubt that this is the place to threaten using goldsellers.

I know of many occasional PvPers for which reaching lvl 30 will take ages. So the argument that it’s done quickly can’t be used for everyone.

My point is, make the pvp unlockable unlocked by doing pvp and not by doing pve.
If you still want it to be unlockable in pvp by doing pve at least make it so pvpers who pvp actually unlock it faster.

Justin ODell if you guys want progression and unlocks in pvp i suggest you do it like this:

Trait points gained when you rank up, make so that rank 20-30 is needed to have all traits/whatever unlocked
Remove hot join, add a casual/unranked queue with optional queue for future game modes
Restrict ranked queues to rank 20-30+

If you are not removing hotjoin and adding unranked queues with possibility of duo queueing, then reduce rewards for losing and remove personal score from it, so winning means more and working as a team rather then just zerg around to get top scores.
Still think removing hotjoin and add unranked queues is the best way to do it, and removing rank points gained from custom games completely to stop win trade servers.

With the system i just described you have a system similar to LoL and Smite(and possibly other mobas?) Where you have to level up and get a bit of experience before you can join ranked games.

Or at the very least, make it so rank 50+players(especially those that didn’t farm skyhammah) get their traits unlocked by default.
Or add like 20-50gold and make it scale per level after rank 50+, maybe give those 60-70 players like 100g or whatever per rank up.

Jumping into a FPS for the first time ever and play multiplayer is a lot more similar to jumping into sPvP for the first time though. However even playing against bots in a FPS will give you more practice and understanding of the multiplayer aspect than what pve gives you for pvp.

Also the real problem is the fact that pvers currently get way more of the currency(gold) that will be used for pvp after the reward revamp than pvpers currently get. heck pvpers make even less money now than before removal of glory.

Glory used to be worthless, then they added a vendor to drain it, and now its gone. Glory wasn’t making anyone bank.

I’d imagine the PvP rewards will actually be rank locked. Rank, that thing you’re gaining in high order during the interim to the new rewards patch.

But it’s still the same gameplay all the way, learning to play a shooter with unlocks or no unlocks is still the same.
Having attachement/weapon progression is not going to make you better at shooters, it’s all about playtime and actual personal skill.
Playing PvE(more gold) to be able to unlock traits faster in PvP is not even close to similar

Indeed it didn’t make anyone bank(unless they hoarded glory/farmed skyhammer and sold winterday gifts), however doing pve does and guess what the currency that is going to be used for pvp is.. gold from what they have said. Which will make them unlock the traits faster/easier than PvPers.

You have way to much faith in people if you actually believe that.
You can level up to 80 without touching the dodge button and face tank everything and still farm pretty darn well.
You are not going to progress very far in pvp if you do the same thing there.

A player who is new to mmos/pvp who spent say 50hrs level up to 80 is most likely going to far worse mechanically and worse understanding of his class/role in pvp than if he started in pvp and spent 30hrs there instead since the difference on how to be effective in pve and pvp is pretty darn big. But he will however have far more money if he went the pve route.

Heck the average wvwvw player from my experience is far far worse than the average spvp player

I probably do, but by design a PvE-er is forced to gradually work through his traits/skills, and level to 80 in X hour. PvP has no such limitation and gets everything up front (or did), they get to jump in, pre-leveled and geared, with a core set of traits to learn from and then later sets to work towards (the LoL and many FPS, style of delivery to orient players in some way). This will take the PvP Y hours to accomplish, which will also be unlocked for them in PvE.

However in pve you can make ANYthing work while leveling since it’s not very challenging at all, heck you can even follow a train of people and learn absolutely nothing beside zerging from one point to another.

Also why it works for other games and especially mobas is a complete different reason. You are still playing the same game modes and against players while leveling up.

This is how real, competitive, successful pvp games such as Dota 2 handle it. They don’t prohibit access to gameplay, just to ranked queues. No skills or traits locked away. No treating PvP as if it requires PvE progression. You learn the game, you gain skill, you move up based on skill. Purely based on skill.

As it should be.

This reminds of the discussions between LoL’s vs. DotA2’s form of content delivery with champions. The idea in LoL to save up and get that new hero is an incentive for many to play through failure, orient themselves, and learn something along the way because they can’t just jump from hero to hero, fail at everything and give up. Conversely DotA2 offers up everything at once, and is great to jump into and the game is much more heavily designed around counter-play between heroes (so its a bit of a necessity by design).

Most FPSs have taken the LoL model because it IS a successful guiding method for new players. The fact that it gives them a goal, even if its an artificial one the game put in place, is a big thing for the psyche. The number of games that use the DotA model are few and far in between these days.

Of course, I still think that these things should unlock for the account if they are unlocked through PvP. Then any other character in PvP will have them available.

Right now a complete new player to spvp but who have done a lot of wvwvw and pve will be able to unlock the traits faster than a person who focused on spvp since the pve/wvwvw person will most likely have more gold

They would have had to level to 80, presumably learning the class along the way. You cannot forget that key aspect.

You have way to much faith in people if you actually believe that.
You can level up to 80 without touching the dodge button and face tank everything and still farm pretty darn well.
You are not going to progress very far in pvp if you do the same thing there.

A player who is new to mmos/pvp who spent say 50hrs level up to 80 is most likely going to far worse mechanically and worse understanding of his class/role in pvp than if he started in pvp and spent 30hrs there instead since the difference on how to be effective in pve and pvp is pretty darn big. But he will however have far more money if he went the pve route.

Heck the average wvwvw player from my experience is far far worse than the average spvp player

jcbroe.4329 has a slight point and i understand how he thinks, however that way is a flawed way of thinking since you can unlock the traits with gold(apperently) it would be a ok way of thinking if it was unlocked by glory and we still had glory.

Right now a complete new player to spvp but who have done a lot of wvwvw and pve will be able to unlock the traits faster than a person who focused on spvp since the pve/wvwvw person will most likely have more gold.

Make the traits unlocked by glory rank(say one every 1-2 ranks) and have solo/team/ranked queue restricted to say glory rank 20-30, while also adding a casual/unranked queue instead of zerg join.
This would be better than having it unlocked by gold.

Would be more in line with what lol/smite has with you needing to level up in order to access ranked queues

So let me get this straight.

Players who have been playing the game and winning gold from PvP should have the resources to be able to purchase any new traits and the intellect and experience to know whether or not any build they would want to play will even need the trait.

New players will log in, see that there is some sort of progression to be able to use everything, and psychologically be encouraged to play a few hotjoins to earn the resources to unlock the traits and experiment with them so that instead of logging in, seeing everything unlocked and ready to go, and then immediately queuing into Solo Que or even Team Que, they are encouraged to and feel as though they need to play a few games to unlock everything they are going to want to use, while gaining more experience in the process, and therefore aren’t queuing into a game and potentially hindering a more competitive game mode.

It seems like this should be everything that the competitive community has been asking for, discouraging new players from “ruining” more competitive game modes through some sort of need to make it through an introductory phase of PvP, while players who currently have experience should have all the resources they need to continue to play the game completely unhindered.

It’s the same model that many video games that are successful have implemented and the outrage against it seems completely unjustified. Yes, sometimes companies have to change their business models, and if that’s what’s bugging you, then tough, but it’s something that needs to happen sometimes in order for a company to be more successful.

Also to clear up all of the misconceptions. ArenaNet already said you can buy these new traits with GOLD which you should have plenty of with the new reward system.

Which we don’t have yet, remember?

While PvErs currently get WAY WAY more gold/hr

Most kittened idea i’ve seen in a while.

What would be better :
Remove immobilize stacking, cannot use evade abilities while immobilized, reduce some of the long duration immobilizes. Make immobilize not scale with condition duration.

And about lyssa, ok idea but i think having it convert all conditions into boons would be better.

Engineer:
Automated Response, better give it like 5sec condition immunity but at 25% hp but iwth 90sec cd.
Or a full cleanse at 25% hp but with 90sec cd.

Thief:
Good ideas, maybe add:
Consume conditions grant all boons beside stability and aegis.

Else pretty good post, especially on game modes.

after playing pvp for 5 minutes i have found a way to get more people to enjoy this game mode. it is simple really… give every class a passive trait that instantly kills thiefs and mesmers in 10k radius. and i mean kill, not down.

Can we have a equal passive trait that instantly kills warriors, engineers, necros, rangers, elementalists, guardians as well?

I don’t know… that sounds a bit overpowered to me.

ok lets exclude non traited elementalists then, should be more balanced i think.

I’m using something similar but with staff to great success, altho i run decoy instead of portal to make my life easier with thieves. Been thinking about using null field too..

Wows RBGs required a lot less communication and rotation than GW2s conquest. AB was for a big part about fighting in long zergy stalemates at BS. There was almost no rotation involved even at the very top of the ladder. The longer travel time meant we could jump the stable defenders from stealth and get CC chains off before teammates got close enough to help. The only option was to have a roamer close enough.

I dont think GW2s pvp combat in a competetive environment is suited for larger scale fights.

It actually seems like BG’s required more tactics in vanilla wow depending on which server you were on, on kazzak/daggerspine pre cross server bgs the competition was fierce as the top pvp premades were made up by the top raiding guilds who happened to also be the top raiding guilds in EU/World(Forte, synergy, LR etc). It was A LOT about out maneuvering the enemy team and doing fake pushes, back capping with rogues/druids etc. especially for us on horde side since fighting those overgeared paladins……
Like we used to split up the 3x 5man grps into 5x 3man groups to be able to rotate them around as smaller cells easier.
Sure we had zerg fights at BS vs some teams but vs Forte(who were one of the best alliance guilds world) it was pretty impossible since they never died
AB was basically like Legacy but with 4 capture points, 4 respawn areas and 3 times the people and no ez mode lord.

Sure communications weren’t as fast as in a 5v5 conquest in GW2 and the top premade on horde got by using CAPSLOCK while alliance tended to use Vent/TS.

I also require a lot of practice vs other mesmers, it’s my hardest fights right after good thieves.
I’d prefer vs non pu condi builds though..
As Necros they are very beatable, especially if you run mantra of distraction. i’ll try record some duels vs some good necros running normal tpvp builds on both of us.
I can imagine a really good necro in wvwvw where dhumbfire and bleed stacking isn’t nerfed to be a massive problem though.

Would a waved queue system with a ready button like in smite work in gw2?
Would it make it worse or better?

Would it be too hard to add a layered “GAME READY PLEASE ENTER” pop up thingie with a massive sound effect that pops up even if you are tabbed out?

A note about guild rewards and might have been said before…

I think guild rewards are amazing, but they should be only awarded to the players in the guild which has the required rating to reach the reward requirement.
So guilds can’t just invite random players and they still get rewards, i’m fine with guilds/teams power boosting people if they can.

I liked the team system for WoW arena where you had both team rating and personal rating in the team, you could have members than required but only the players with the rating required for rewards would get them.

I also want guilds/teams to show up on the leaderboard, or even ranked by guilds and then being able to click on it to see the actual players in it and their ranking.

Also would it be possible to somehow promote the top players/teams/guilds somehow on front page if you add a ladder/season thing.

As for actual rewards:

Guild capes/cloaks cause if there is one thing i miss in gw2 it’s cloaks/capes, altho i guess that will never happen cause of charrs(that was the excuse for no capes/cloaks last time)

Legendary trinkets with no stats but that gives fancy footstep effects like on legendary weapons or other effects like Halos etc, since trinkets aren’t being used in spvp. (this is my favorite idea)
