The jumping puzzles might be pretty cool, if there were movement mechanics to support it, ala Assassin’s Creed, or even Tomb Raider.. but with just typical MMO movement, I hate them. They just feel awkward and out of place to me.
I skip POIs, too. I’m not much of a completionist :p
Most of the time, the person who picks it up, probably doesn’t even want it. They’re just trying to pick up loot. They’d drop it for someone else, if that were possible, but have to just swap weapons, and it disappears.
Pretty half-baked idea, if you ask me…
I don’t understand this logic. It’s like saying that you should be happy eating a kitten sandwich, just because you get it for free. No, I want a good game, the cost of it has nothing to do with that.
I get it a lot, when using underwater melee weapons. Ranged weapons, not so much.
Further “testing” has lead me to think this was a bit off. Its not a matter of which weapon I use, but just whether I’m in melee range. It happens if I stand still, in melee range, whatever weapon type I’m using.
I think it has to do with the mob being so close, but still unable to hit, due to being slightly above or below me. It can’t figure out how to path any closer, since its already practically on top of me, so it goes invulnerable.
Ironically, its just the opposite of kiting. If you I try to kite, or at least keep moving, it seems to happen less.
This is something that’s bothered me from the very beginning. I think even Rift felt more dynamic in a way, because events didn’t happen like clockwork, the way GW2 does. It just gets so predictable.
I think it could be a huge improvement, if they just added 2-3 random variables to every event. Just mix it up in different ways, so that players would never know exactly what was coming.

I’d switch more often, if switching back didn’t have such a long cooldown. I don’t understand why that’s there.
yes its 119g but whats the fun when everyones running around with it? Not everyone will have it.
I like when people look different, because everyone has different personal preferences. Not because of haves and have nots.
I’ve gotten mostly used to it, but even still, sometimes find myself spamming abilities because I can’t see whats going on. A slider to reduce particle density, effect opacity, or something similar would be much appreciated.
People defend it, saying “fun” is all the reward they need, but I wonder if someday, it’ll turn out the devs just haven’t gotten around to itemizing them, yet. Maybe its just unfinished content, and they let us go on thinking that its intentional, because that doesn’t sound as bad.

I only tried it at low level, but found the damage to be crazy weak. Loved the look of it though, so that was pretty disappointing. Does it get better, somehow?
First off, just want to say I’m new to this class. I’m an altoholic, and the Elementalist is my 7th character. So maybe this is a silly question, but…
Why do traits only work with one attunement, each? It seems like the class is designed to benefit from swapping attunements, but unless I stick with the element I’ve traited, I’m playing without any trait points at all? (all the “only works when attuned to _” traits) I can spec two lines eventually, sure, but then I’m only using half my trait points, at any given time? How is that fair or balanced?
This seems like the most frustrating class to play, and at the very least, it seems like it’d help balance it, if they removed that restriction. It just really seems to sabotage the versatility of the class.

Did you watch the FIRST video link posted in the thread?
Was there something wrong with the second clip (the one I posted)?
Not a catchy musical montage of moneyshots, I know, but not only does that guy brutalize all different classes too, he also goes into a lot of detail about how its done, and shows the greater context of his experience, like what he did while waiting for cooldowns, which opponents he’d fight, and which he’d run from, etc.
Another example

Not yet, no… Hopefully they’re working on that, though.
I think its the best character creator I’ve seen in an MMO. If another one has done better, I’m drawing a blank as to which it might have been..
Aion, EvE online, Phantasy Star Online, Saint’s Row, I could probably count more games that have much much better CC then GW2
Yeah, guess we’d just have to agree to disagree, because I disagree. I’ve played them all (except PSO), and still, like GW2’s creator best..
Doesn’t mean I think its perfect though. I think it would benefit greatly from an extra layer, for tattoos, scars, makeup, etc. I do kinda hate how currently, that sort of thing is bound to which face you choose, so that everyone with the same face will look too similar.
I’m just hoping they have some big additions coming. Sooner rather than later. I understand they want to get things “perfect” and all.. but if it takes too long, there won’t be so many people left to care. Even being B2P, people are only going to keep it installed for so long, before they move on for good.
It’s definitely losing momentum, at the very least, but I think there’s still time for them to turn that around.

Anything to do with SPvP = MEH…
IMHO
Its not the nerfs that bother me so much, as the fact that they seem to prioritize nerfing over other tweaks and fixes they could be doing, that would have people loving them for it.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t ever nerf anything, but consider their limited resources, and this is what they start doing first? Maybe they think they just need to get it out of the way quickly, but that NEVER happens. It’s an neverending cycle that will be part of any actively developed MMO. I just don’t understand why it has to be such a major part of it, right out of the gate.
It’s like the devs develop a sort of OCD, trying to achieve some sort of perfect balance, but there are so many other things they could be working on. Realistic things. Things that might actually make their players happy, as crazy as that might sound.

Not a perfect solution, but for now, try /sleep? Helps, if you just want a view, screenshot, etc.
I agree, way too many people just following zergs, leaving a lot of the game feeling deserted, despite healthy population. I wish they’d do something about it, but not sure what. Maybe bonus xp/karma in underpopulated areas?
Hyperbole aside, I just don’t understand why this is how they spend their first month live. This is when its most crucial to reinforce and build on their fanbase, but instead of doing things that would have people cheering them on, they’re busy throwing around these nitpicky nerfs.
Cooking mats are often half of other mats. Right from the beginning, you buy stacks of 100 picks, 100 axes, or 50 sickles.
Elites in this game are balanced in very, very, very safe ways.
This is possibly my biggest disappointment in the game. Not elites, but the design philosophy of playing it so safe. How most of the game is so extremely “balanced” it’s as if they just pre-nerfed all sorts of things into lackluster pointlessness.
With PvE, I barely get problems, you best bet is to make most of your utility skills a signet. It dissapoints me that wells don’t work underwater, considering I know how they could make it work. Just make it a sphere around the location and just make ground targeting for it disabled.
And the ground targeting trait should just increase the spheres radius.
I’ve thought the same thing. I’m guessing its just a known issue/solution they haven’t gotten around to, yet. I mean, it would require a variety of resources, art, sound, not just coding :/
No other class I’ve played is so terrible underwater, as the necro. and I’ve played everything, except engineer.
Honestly, I am not sure that they can be played effectively WITH minions.
My sentiments exactly. I gave up trying to use any necro pets, they’re terrible. Any number of other utilities work much better.
The arctic areas (Shiverpeak Mts) seem to be the most deserted. I like them, but guess most people don’t. I’d recommend moving somewhere more populated, like any of the other three areas. Kryta seems to be the most crowded, although they all seem active enough, most of the time. Which seems to mean more frequent events.
Least make it an option, that would be really nice.
If some classes are better at surviving, and others are better at control, while and others just do the most damage per second.. What stops this game from having a trinity? Just that there’s no content we’d need a trinity for?
Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought any class would be able to DPS, CC, or tank, somewhat equally, depending on spec, and which weapons we use. Instead, it’s more like, sure everyone can DPS. Just not necessarily very well, making it a weak way to spec, when you’d be better off just playing a class that’s good at it.
Some classes are definitely trickier. You need to learn how to use different utilities and consider synergies in how you spec.. but that’s just so you won’t be utter crap at it. Still doesn’t really close the gaping discrepancies.. least not in my experience.
I was hoping it’d be the first game to grow in population, since WoW. Used to be the norm for MMOs to keep growing, reaching a population peak after a year or two. Doesn’t look like that’s what’s happening, though.
Maybe they can turn things around with post-launch content, and being B2P means lots more people will come back to check out anything they add.. but I don’t know if that’ll be enough. We’ll see.
So, the answer is no, not likely, but in all fairness, my hopes were pretty high.
I just run around doing quests and events, without paying any attention to the numbers that pop up with the completion medals. Seems to be working great, so far.
I think the idea of a personal story in an MMO is boring. The less time and money they waste on it, the better.
Personally, I wouldn’t want it to have greater range. It hits things in melee range which works fine for me, but already grabs some unwanted aggro, too. The bigger the range, the more of an issue that would be.
I know we’re supposed to be black-hearted deathmongers, but I can’t help but feel bad at all the hapless wildlife I’ve slaughtered, as it is.
ButtJustice o_0Some people say pride shouldn’t exist in a video game because it isn’t real. But whether people like to admit it, video game worlds have become real.
It’s not that it’s become real. It’s that fiction has always allowed us to experience some of our baser impulses, in safe sugar-coated ways that don’t hurt anyone. We get some of feelings of domination or reward or ambition (or love or loss or whatever else) without the unpleasant realities of really experiencing such things.
Opinions differ on how base such fictions should be, and how and sugar-coated they should be, of course.
I just hate running into so many deserted events, in the mid-level areas. Soloing them is even less fun than just avoiding them.
I’m sure it looks fine at peak times, but at 3pm… not so much. When pops are honestly high, it can seem almost like there are no off-peak times.
Hi everyone.
We just changed the thread title to a more descriptive one, since it is easier for other users to figure out the content of a thread in this way.
(after reading all the replies) Hah, doesn’t exactly seem to have accomplished that…
Personally I find the change lackluster. In PvP, I still don’t have a reason to put Blood is Power on my bar over Well of Darkness / Epidemic, Corrupt Boon / Well of Corruption, or Plague Signet / Spectral Armor.
In PvE, I still don’t have a reason to put Blood is Power on my bar over Epidemic, Signet of Undeath, Corrupt Boon, Well of Darkness, Well of Corruption, Well of Power, or Spectral Wall. I sometimes used Blood is Power anyway, on fights like the robot and his turrets in CoE explorable, but in situations where I didn’t use Blood is Power, I still won’t use it now.
This change is unremarkable.
This is how I feel as well. Didn’t seem worth using over numerous other utilities before, and still doesn’t. So it’s no real change at all, for my particular playstyle.
Even these guys seem to pronounce it that way, and they’re Swedish. That’s kinda like Norse, isn’t it?
That’s not “cleaving” it’s just you misunderstanding how melee targeting works in this game. You don’t need to use tab at all.
All I’d want to see is the damage roughly doubled on one skill, from each mainhand weapon. Axe2, Dagger2, and Staff1. Not familiar with the sceptre skills, but probably one of them, too. It can even just be single-target, I’m fine with that balance limitation. I just want ONE high damage skill to use, that isn’t a long cooldown utility.
I don’t know how anyone can say dagger2 does great damage. Have you played ANY other class? Seems to me like they made it weak to balance the lifetap, but the heal is so weak, I don’t think I’d miss it if it were removed entirely.
edit: oh, and underwater.. I just don’t get why neither weapon is ranged.
(edited by Vzur.7123)
Traits are much easier to balance. When in doubt, they can just make them so weak, it doesn’t matter. Seems like somewhere along the way, they became obsessed with balance, putting it above the fun-factor of having real choices to make.
I think for most players, balance is a key to having fun in a game and that is pretty obvious on any MMO game’s forum. If one class is even the slightest bit under or overpowered, people are not having fun.
I disagree. Balance is an overrated ideal, that’s never quite achieved, but the incessant striving for it is sucking the fun out of these games. People will always whine about balance – except when they’re not having enough fun to care.

I would comment on this, but it’ll be locked too soon to be worth saying anything.
Balancing the looks of these armors together might make the design team take up drinking though.
They could just make it so that any armors that blatantly clip can’t be worn together. That’d reduce choices, but it would still open up a lot of new possibilities. Other than that, I don’t see why the art team should be too controlling about that. Let players worry about that for themselves, IMHO.
and I wonder if that’s a big part of the issue. Choices and aesthetics. People want to choose their style more, rather than have it dictated to us by the design team?
It’s a perfect example of dumbing down. I just try not to dwell on it…
(edited by Vzur.7123)
Again, I’d be willing to bet the classes who “love underwater combat” are the classes who can generally tank most things underwater. The rest of us are loving our carpal tunnel syndrome from all the 5-15 minute slow motion strafing sessions.
Think it might be a class issue, too. I’d like to hear from people who like the combat, what classes do you play? I’ve played everything but elementalist and engineer. Bugs aside, I’ve found it to range from ok, to pretty good – except on my necro.
On my necro, it’s terrible. Necros don’t get any ranged attacks on either weapon choice underwater. The whole class depends heavily on its utilities, but can be spec’d in ways that don’t work there, either.
