Yeah, little too much emphasis on pronunciation there. As you briefly point out, the issues with the voice acting go quite a bit deeper than that.

I like playing the least common classes too, but the least played classes are least played for a reason, unfortunately. Without “trinity” mechanics, DPS is important for everyone, yet some are just blatantly subpar in that area.

Every class should get at least one good DPS burst skill, on at least one weapon..

I don’t compare my character to other players – I have six alts, and can see the discrepancy myself. With no “trinity,” no serious CC, heals, or tanking, every class should have the means to DPS. I don’t see how it’s even remotely balanced, otherwise.

Necro is playable, but it’s about more than just seeing big numbers. Their damage is a joke compared to half the other classes, especially if you try to play a no-pets build (which should be a viable option, since their pets are kitten annoying).

Seems like instead of prolonging the system by making it character bound, they could have added more exotic dyes, instead. How about gradient dyes, and that sort of thing? There are much more fun ways to extend the system, and even monetize it, instead of just gutting it.

Getting nice looking new armor is especially important to my wife, and she’s pretty bored of the game, because it’s just the same old stuff, level after level. We’re not the type who care about variety at endgame, so much as variety along the way.

So if it’s not there by level 40, it just gets hard to keep going. For me too, somewhat, but especially for her. I’m pretty much playing without her, now.

This game is great for aesthetics in some ways, and the character creator gets it off to a flying start, especially with the dye system and all.. but then it just kinda falls flat, after 20 or 30 levels of loot looking all the same.

Less money than selling to NPC?

People who keep asking this also seem to miss, is that not everyone cares about making as much money as they can. Some are even fine with losing a few copper. It’s just a few copper.

I know this may be hard to believe, for people who are into that sort of thing, but some players are happy with what they get just playing the game, and they throw stuff up on the broker, just in case anyone else wants it.

GW2 just happens to make that especially easy, so you see a lot of it.

Some say it’s not about the rewards, but I think even no reward (or at least no equipment) would be better than something crappy. Why not something good, something class and level appropriate? Ok fine, not that big of a deal, but a kitten reward will naturally get kitten responses from players.

Sounds to me like a camera clipping tweak. Maybe to reduce the camera from clipping into things, they’ve increased that range from an object it has to be, to stay in front of it.

More noticeable for my wife, because she likes to play fully zoomed out, and she does more of the jumping puzzles than I do. Causes the camera to constantly bounce in and out as it collides with the scenery, and seems she feels it recently got worse.

GW2 is Fun-Centric, not Reward-Centric

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vzur.7123

Vzur.7123

You’re confusing a game that is not reward-centric, or progression-centric, with a game that has no rewards or progression. Of course Anet knows that people enjoy progression and rewards, but not everyone wants progression and rewards to be the fundamental reason for playing. When reward progression becomes the core design philosophy, you have a skinner-box game.

There’s nothing wrong with skinner box games, it’s just that there’s a glut of them on the market – WoW, AION, TERA, SWTOR, RIFT .. etc, etc. Why make another one? Who do you think you’re going to appeal to by making the same game with yet another skin on it? You can’t compete with WoW for skinner box customers – AION, RIFT, TERA and SWTOR all found this out.

I’m trying to decide whether or not I agree.. because I sorta do. I’d love to see more sandbox MMOs on the market, which tend to be much less about rewards. I also agree that WoW isn’t the only way to make an MMO, and find it frustrating that it keeps getting imitated.

OTOH, for a themepark type game.. I don’t know, it does seem kind of central to the mechanics. I think the people who just enjoy the content, fighting mob after mob, without needing to be rewarded for it, are a pretty small niche. It can be fun for a little while, but it’s not like a more engaging action game – and even they tend to rely entirely on PvP for longevity.

I don’t think that works so well in an MMORPG.. RPGs depending heavily on rewards, or a finite story, rather than visceral fun action mechanics.

I’m thinking GW2 is going to put that to the test, though. In a way, I guess I hope I’m wrong.

My issue with this sort of logic is that if it added up, or if they really truly believed it, why even have levels? Why not just let us run around having fun in the game, without needing to entice us with progression?

Why does this suddenly become true at 80, but not before that?

I thought DEs were actually supposed to effect the game?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Vzur.7123

Vzur.7123

I’ve seen DEs fail. Like defending the Skritt king. We failed, he died.. but they had a new king five minutes later.

I think the problem is that the effects are too brief. They don’t need to be permanent, but should last longer than a few minutes.

I want to say they should last a few hours at least, but then they’d need more variety of events, rather than the same one over and over, so that there wouldn’t be huge lulls. I was hoping they’d use more procedural randomized content generation though, because yeah, scripting all that would be an enormous task.

Things I'm not happy about with GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vzur.7123

So if the game is all about aesthetics why do they make it such a godkittenchore to make yourself look pretty? Why would I bother? I’m all for an aesthetics based game but it makes no sense for me to care enough to do the same dungeon 70 times. Like I said, I don’t have time. I CAN’T play the game how they want me to.

This is how I feel too. Aesthetics are great, but not a compelling reason to do content. Nor something that should be backloaded into endgame. More of something to enjoy on the side, along the way.

This is nothing new, though. I felt ANet was always pretty clear about the issue. I’ve just always disagreed with them. I’m enjoying the game in spite of that. For now. It just won’t keep me playing longterm.

I never really liked gear-grinding of any sort, though. I’m an old DAOC vet, not a WoW player.

Waypoint costs

in Suggestions

Posted by: Vzur.7123

Vzur.7123

- MMOs are social. Sometimes my friends ask me to go to a specific area to meet them. This system discourages me from doing that.

This is the only time it really bothers me. I can usually keep waypoint travel to a minimum, and it’s not an issue – but then when I want to join a friend, and they’re a few zones away, it seems excessive. Especially considering how this happens a lot.

How about a discount for travelling to someone we’re grouped with? Or something like that? (it could be abused, sure.. but really, oh no! people might save some coin by grouping? doesn’t seem that big of a deal to me…)

Also like thos solution:

Waypoints should have a timer installed on them. Once every hour or so we get a free use. After that, a fee.
This would allow use to meet with friends, get to dungeon points, meet up at zone events without pain. The timer would then prevent “free” farming and event zerg farming.

..but I don’t like the solution of free or discounted travel on maps we’ve “cleared.”

For one thing, that would practically force players to complete maps, and not everyone is a completionist. The current rewards seem like plenty, without making it mandatory for people who aren’t really interesting in clearing anything.

For another, it rewards people who do clear everything too much. For them, suddenly they can waypoint all over the place, without any costs? Eventually, that will be almost everyone, but the costs are there for a reason. Might as well just make it free, if you’re going to do that.

You can use a safe box or an invisible bag to put your minipet in…best is, to put this bag on your last or first (if you fill it completely) inventory slot. Vendors won’t see what is in this bag/box and the deposit collectible and compact option does not apply to this bag/box aswell (Meaning, that stuff that is in there has to be deposited one at a time). This way you can deposit your crafting stuff and use your compact button, without the minipet being stored in the bank, or switching slotplace in your inventory

This is what I do, but its still annoying that I have to open my packs to bring out the pet – since it disappears every time I zone, die, fast travel, or look at it funny.

A way to hotbar it would be much appreciated. Also, let me name it :p

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vzur.7123

Vzur.7123

I think I’ve had the same armor models for about 40 levels. I don’t believe there are many assets when it comes to model variation in this game

I’ve seen a lot of different armor models between 1 and 40. The problem is that they’re extremely similar in style. e.g. medium armor is like 10 different types of trenchcoat. You want something other than a trenchcoat? Have to wait until lv.60 or something.

I don’t get that. An art asset limitation, I could understand, but there’s lots of assets being used. They just stick way too closely to the same theme.

If the devs want players to be happy with armor appearances, the key is variety. Give players choices and they won’t complain about things like this. Force them to to stick with a certain look, and no matter how well done it is, it will be frustrating. Leveling up, getting new armor, and kittenmit, it’s another trenchcoat.

um.. “kittenmit?” lol. Nice filter :p

Makeover token would be the gem store best seller if it’s priced reasonably (around 400-800 gems I’d say).

More like 800-1600 gems .

This is 5-10 gold, which is not very much compared to the other stuff
you can buy. (T3 race armor 20g/piece).

Gold cost is low for now, but as more people get higher level, that’s going to go way up. Plus, for many players, even that’s more gold than they’ve seen, yet.

In real money terms, that’s $5-10, which is the most I’d consider reasonable. At $20? No way…

Every MMO should offer this, in one form or another. Needing to pay real money for it is less than ideal, but better than nothing.

I’d just like to request that if it does get added, to make it work in such a way that changes can be made repeatedly, for a limited time. A day, or even just an hour. If I’m going to spend money on it, it’d be nice to have a little extra leeway, in case mistakes are made, or just further tweaking is needed.

Great job on the character creator, btw. Possibly the best I’ve seen in any MMO. Would be nice to be able to revisit it once in a while

I prefer to start from scratch and win without getting killed, so that it actually feels like winning.. but sometimes this just seems impossible.

I’d be fine with the option to just abandon the whole thing entirely though. Remove it from the HUD tracker, so it’s not there nagging me all the time. I don’t play MMOs for personal story, anyhow.
