I don’t subscribe to the thought that something needs to be complex to be challenging. It’s the lazy way of design.

We don’t subscribe to that notion either. I do believe however that it is acceptable for some fractals to be more complex than others, especially ones that are part of an important arc.

Based on the last two Fractals… You mean important Arkk.

Yes, and why do you care? There is NOTHING against the rules about doing this. Stepping away from your computer for a little bit at a time is okay. While farming often people need to use restroom, check dinner, he a parent, etc. Sometimes those just involve a quick ark of one or two minutes, or even longer. There has been a LOT of discussion in the past about that and it has been determined to be okay per A Net.

Going afk is not bannable unless it becomes chronic.

Oh come on.

Yes, RL interruptions happen all the time. Get to a safe space quickly if you can. If you have time to deploy turrets you do not have that excuse though.

In this case, nothing safer than being surrounded by turrets and people. If my child is in screaming pain I’m not gonna run to a safe spot I’m gonna bolt from my computer asap.

I do not have kids but if I did and they were screaming I would not waste the time to get my toon to a safe space. If my character dies it it a silver or 2 to WP, compared to a possible emergency going on. Where are your priorities? You call yourself a parent?

Yeah… thats what I said.

I’m NOT gonna move my character. Why did you agree with me then call me a bad parent when you said you would do the exact same thing I did?

Maybe because I would not waste time deploying turrets and coming back in a few minutes to put them out again?

I would hope nobody would do that. In an emergency your priority shouldn’t be gaining loot in GW2 :p

Ew, that sounds like too much work. If the child is in that much pain I’ll do one of two things

If severe enough we go hospital and my account just afk times out and oh darn.

If not bad enough to go to hospital I patch him/her up and get back to what I was doing after I know the child is well enough to be left alone again.

None of those involve coming back every 5 minutes, who would do that when it comes to their child?

I do it with dinner at times, but never afk more than I need to

Right, and thats not okay. I was referring mostly to those that do it for an hour or two. They will never be banned since again ANet has said that there is nothing wrong with going afk to check dinner or be a parent.

Besides, people occupying maps aren’t afk 24hours a day since the afk timer logs people out. So I’m still not convinced anyone doing it is breaking any rules. If A GM whispers someone they even allow a few minutes before taking action for the reason listed above. At least that’s what I’ve learned from reading about these experiences.

[Suggestion]Bring back the Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Warcry.1596

I think the biggest design flaw of raid content, was an aggro mechanic of highest toughness. That makes people feel necessary to have a tank, then, with Vale Guardian at first, the random pulsing damage within 1500 range. THEN the timer, forcing max DPS.

The raid content was sadly designed with some sort of trinity in mind, which is sad, content can be made of much higher quality than what was done =/

Remove the need for those niche roles and design content based on mechanics.

Honestly, the most engaging part of the entire raid content for me is Siege the Stronghold. Endless enemies, splitting up.

I am not anti meters, if people feel like they prefer them, then they should be able to,

I do think the larger issue is the reason why people want them. I think that the raid content was designed with high DPS in mind, which I think is a flaw in and of itself.

If DPS didn’t matter, and your success in the content was based on difficult mechanics… Like complete challenging mechanic or fail the encounter, then it would have a much better design, and the entire debate wouldn’t even come up.

It makes me wonder, where did high DPS = high skill cap originate? They are not always synomymous.

Most fight won’t require top DPS.
Wing 1: VG is definitely not the DPS race, a good group composition will bring you decent DPS and that’s all you need. Gorseval? If you can’t reach dps, do airdraft mechanics, done. Sabetha can indeed be a little of a DPS race but is mostly mechanics heavy.

Wing 2: The 3 bosses are definitely not DPS races. Matthias like Sabetha is mechanic heavy.

Wing 3: KC can be DPS race, but if you miss a checkpoint you can still recover.

Wing 4: No DPS race. In fact they’re a joke. Not talking of CM of course.

There is no real tough DPS check. I think group composition (making sure to have alacrity/gotl/stacks of might etc) is more important, and that’s more knowing the mechanics of a class than anything. Sure having really good dps make the fights easier, and that’s why some people get toxic over that. But let’s face it, a group that fails a Xera, Matthias, Deimos isn’t cause of DPS, just because they don’t do the mechanics well.

None of the fights require top DPS, I never said they do. My issue is that they require DPS at all. Sure, some fights can have certain parts or phases, but in general, I would much rather be challenged in other ways, mostly because I don’t feel like wearing DPS gear to be enough of a challenge for content designed to be difficult.

Understandable, but there are other ways to prove knowledge of mechanics and the game itself than maximizing DPS.

Not for people in the role of damage dealer.
Assuming they don’t cause other people’s deaths (usually easy to notice, though to be fair with the way GW2’s combat explodes in a disco whenever people start using skills it is rather difficult here), then the higher the DPS, the better.

Ofc for a tank or a healer the metrics are different, and not quite as simple (because for example higher raw healing output can still be worse healing).

Right, but that goes back to how it’s designed. It doesn’t HAVE to be designed in such a way that full damage people need to push to that specific limit. It could just mean that as full damage, they lack any sort of defensive capabilities aside from evades and skills, and THAT to me is a much better skillful challenge, figuring out how to survive while dealing the damage you are capable of.

That’s all I mean… Reward that sort of skillful play, high DPS =/= high skill.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Correct about tiers, but I think that Fractals may hold the gear treadmill. If they increase the cap, you need more, higher infusions, thus creating a treadmill so to speak. So I hope they don’t add new tiers and just add new fractals.

I believe that was indeed the goal behind raid design, and for that matter HoT design.

Well they DID say at PAX when they announced Heart of Thorns that people may consider “dusting off their tanky gear” and almost heavily implied the berserker meta was going to be non existent.

As far as the design of raid content the way it is, I get it, but there are way better ways to test people’s profession knowledge.

Expansion 2 Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Warcry.1596

Warcry.1596

I’ve had some questions I’ve been curious about regarding the seconds expansion.

Masteries: I have 25+ extra mastery points for Heart of Maguuma. Will these ever have purpose? I was hoping that all expansions would share one mastery point type. Not that I’m lazy and don’t want to farm them, I just don’t like the thought of having so many I cannot use. Maybe release #2 with fewer attainable points as well. A few extras are great so that people can choose how they get them but so many is a bit excessive.

Fractals: we know there will never be new gear for a treadmill, but what about Fractals? Will the cap increase beyond 100? And if so it may require more agony resistance, causing my entire set of Mighty +9s to be less effective since they can’t cap out anymore. Id rather see the cap remain at 100, and add some new fractals at least until there is only one fractal per Tier (so 25). Either way, it is an indirect gear treadmill having to replace/upgrade infusions instead of gear. Again, if this is how they choose to go, then oh well, but I would prefer a less treadmilly system.

Thank you for your time, and would love others thoughts on this

Nerf elite specs then. One of the reasons that people who primarily play PvE aren’t learning their class is because they don’t have to. Elite specs will carry them hard, because those traitline do everything.

Nerf elite spec lines, and people will no longer be able to rely so heavily on them, so people will start learning their classes better

Nice meme there. If you dont know rotations even elite specs wont save you. Was the case before hot is still the case now.

I read this as you saying rotations are necessary for content completion. I can’t think of anywhere in the game where having a “perfect rotation”, a term I hear alot, makes a difference between success and fail.

Raids.

Mashing random buttons won’t take you far. Yes, there’s a certain thief build who can literally only autoattack and be good enough, but this assumes the support classes do their jobs fine, which isn’t done by said mashing. You certainly don’t need to be perfect, but you certainly need to be familiar with your rotation.

Not true at all =/. I’ve had plenty of groups do well with pretty sub casual players that don’t know anything about DPS rotations, let alone DPS builds. They have DPS equipment, and that’s about it, most groups don’t have trouble.

You can stop trying to make the content seem like it requires more than it actually does.

Everyone keeps misinterpreting this. That note specifically was only referring to boon and condition conversion. So, skills like Well of Power and Corrupt Boon. It does not apply to boon or condition removal.

That being said, Spectral Armor should always be on your bar in WvW and PvP anyway, regardless of your specialization lines chosen.

Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”

I can help if as a Necromancer.

I don’t know why, but calling them by their elite specialization just rubs me the wrong way.

As a Necro my favorite thing to fight is Thieves. They’re so squishy and you really only need to land one or two hits before your conditions finish them. Yes they evade a lot, but make sure you are using Spectral Armor too.

Dodge two Vaults, assuming they are using staff, and then understand that they used 12 Initiative. Should be easy from there.

“He shall make whole that which was torn asunder.
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”

Could we get a new trait and skill overhaul?

Elite in this case isn’t supposed to mean better or superior. Elite just means the specialization does more than a base one does. Elite ones change the profession mechanic, bring new skills, new weapon type.
