Saying no rewards anymore is hyperbole. That suggests we are not adding a system to replace the old one, which is not true.

And yes, per Colin’s blog post, we’ve now released that the Feature build will be on April 15!

True, but getting one copper a match could technically still be classified as a reward – but the essence of what he was saying is the same – there are no useful rewards.

Please limit the semantic games and try to understand what this minority individual is saying.

Grouch cared about the game, talked to the community (in game and out) regularly, and responded to them promoting and instigating constructive discussion. He took their opinions and I’m fairly sure he brought them to the attention of the sPvP team(s).

Allie reads forums, which contains 99.99% of nonconstructive whining while hardly (if even) communicating to players with legitimate feedback. She doesn’t take the initiative to talk to players in game either, and will only sPvP if asked to.

To conclude, she mainly listens to the whiners on forums who have no idea how the game actually works; ie the “very, very small percentage” of the community. So not only does she listen to such a small part of the community, it’s the part of the community that doesn’t know how to separate personal bias from their opinion in order for the good of the game. Taking the easy path saying you’re doing your job by reading forums, after saying yourself that forums only accommodate a small percentage of the player-base, isn’t going to help the game progress and only aggravates the majority of the actual community.

The circle the OP has pointed out shows incompetence. Rather than actually doing her job she reads forums. Then when forums complain about something she says that the forums do not accurately represent the PvP population. But instead of going to the PvP population and gathering opinions of several players from all levels of skill she goes back to forums and repeats the cycle.

That incompetence is likely built into the job description and functions to be honest. Put this way, the title may be “community coordinator”, but the goals, actual job functions, and the way it is structured internally may simply be “forum mod manager”.

You and I can discuss (and have discussed) how useful this role really is, but it may be through no fault of the individual – more of how they have organized their corporate structure, and the euphemistic titles used. It’s like calling a shift supervisor at a hotel front desk the front desk manager instead.

They are a tiny tiny minority Joop – not sure where you think collective. Besides, by posting here, they void their ideas, as we as a forum going population do not reflect the ideas of the ruling majority. Anything typed on these forums is really quite pointless, including this post.

I’ve been in the mists for an hour or so, and heard multiple ask where the glory was and then complain once they found out it was removed. Clearly these must be forum users.

These forum users are only a very very small percentage of their player-base. A “vocal minority” if you will. Unimportant, and really unneeded. All necessary information is clearly disseminated in-game. If you didn’t hear about it, its not relevant or important. This is because all will be fixed, and made 90hundred times better soon.

If you’re truly going for rank – your best strategy at this point is really the same as it always has been – hotjoin skyhammer farm.

In fact, if you really want to carry your buddy, you should open a custom arena and grind it out quick that way.

Also – Soon everything will be fixed. Trust in Big Brother Anet.

Team Queue (all I run, and yes, I queue it solo often) feels very… empty. I mean, even more so than usual. Yes, I play to have fun. I like to be rewarded for winning – it feels good, aka its fun.

I get that technically we are being rewarded more for winning, but it honestly does not “feel” that way. You get a tiny popup at the side of the screen with the points awarded.. that just doesn’t convey the sense of a win for me. Also, who cares about rank points? Especially if you are a high enough rank that getting a new rank is a ways out, then truly.. why bother worrying if you win or lose. Ranks feel like achievement points – that’s just not something that motivates me as a gamer, because both mean the same thing – time spent playing, not necessarily linked to competency actually playing/pvping.

Now normally, winning would be an accomplishment in its own right, but that’s not really the case with GW2. This is because there is no competitive scene here. Its more a matter of who brought more metas / bunkers to the match OR who has less inexperienced players playing. When solo queueing this is rough, as with a high MMR (higher than the average queueing at that time), you just get the worse team-mates, and unless you can carry (hint – difficult to do in gw2 unless you are the right class, and even then… – you can only be in one place at a time).

What this boils down to is that win or loss you can easily blame team-comp or inexperience so a win never feels earned and a loss just feels like a slap in the face. It just feels as if this patch gutted what little sense of achievement remained in tpvp.

I really shouldn’t post though, as I know better – I know soon we will have ground-breaking, envy inducing, orgasmic changes with the next feature patch, and even better, it is coming soon! I am wearing my happy face, please don’t delete me again. (I take my soma like a good citizen)

I think most knew this wasn’t going to be the feature patch. That said, removing PvP rewards at this time was quite dumb of them.

This was the result of months of consideration and thinking it over. It clearly is to make way for the soon changes coming in soon. This is epic, and will change the very soul of gaming by shaking it to its very core. Soon.

GW2 , after 1.5 years, just scrapped their entire pvp system. what does that say?

I have 4 birthday boosters saved up. But I can’t really use them yet. I PvE mostly on my ranger and the problem is I use that ranger for PvP too. So when I go to PvP I feel like those hours on birthday booster would be wasted. SO I avoid using it even though I want it for PvE/WvW.

You really should use those soon.

If a “very, very small percentage” of the community visits these forums, then I just have to ask…

1) You are the community coordinator for spvp.
2) A “very, very small percentage” of players “even visit these forums”
3) You were sub-rank 20 for at least a year (?) of being Community Coordinator (for spvp).

So my question is – how exactly do you coordinate with the spvp community? It’s not in-game (they honestly should give you time at work to log in and run spvp imo… only way to get in touch with the community). Any coordination with these forums is moot because we’re such a small sub category of a sub category (“very, very small percentage”), so anything done here seems rather unproductive. Hence, my question…

To extrapolate on this idea of “a very, very small percentage of [players] even visit[s] these forums” – what useful data can you even collect here. The argument being used is essentially, well, so few people use this tool that anything gleaned from it is automatically invalid, as it only, at best, represents a minority. So… why bother with it at all if you seek only majority opinion? It clearly is not useful for market research or gathering good feedback (as the percentage that use it is too small to be considered important).

The problem with the MMR formula

As I understand it, the current way the ranking and match-making formula works is by attempting to create teams that are roughly even. This sounds good on the surface, but this has an intrinsic flaw to it. Well, at least, it does the way I imagine the formula working.

Essentially, this idea is founded on the premise that a really good player can make up for a really bad player. That one person can “carry”. While this works to a certain extent, it does not truly work out – one good player cannot make up for a whole team of relatively poor players. Additionally, the ability to carry a team to victory depends heavily on class (or role). Generally speaking, a really well played glass roamer will not be able to carry, where as a well played bunker mid might be able to swing things a bit more.

So, with MMR – if you have a really good player, and he is matched with 4 really poor players vs a team full of average players – the average players will win most likely. This seems a bit broken, discouraging people to queue at off-times, as you just get stuck with poor teams if your MMR is higher than the average? Or am I understanding this wrong?

No, they all only affect direct damage as far as i know.

kitten … well there goes my build idea entirely, lol. I probably should have tested things prior to buying gear… oops. I could have sworn the necro +% dmg affected their conditions, but maybe I am just remembering / assuming incorrectly.

Edit: Double checked in the mists – +% damage only applies to direct damage. Time to make a hybrid build I suppose… and I was so certain those traits worked, lol

I’ve been theory crafting condi ele builds for a bit now, and wonder – do the +% damage traits help? For example, Stone Splinters – would your condi ticks go up by 10% while you were within 600 range? I suppose I could stop paper-crafting and test it in the mists, but perhaps the current condi-eles already know the answer?

Don’t worry, that patch is ages away – like June (after WvW season). Besides, if the buff us and we become OP, we’ll be OP for at least 6 – 8 months if not more (remember, this is A-net, eg. 1-2 balance (shaving) patches per year). After that… who knows, but truly… who cares? When all is said and done, we are talking 2015 at this point.

Glad it worked out! Just an fyi – Fresh Air is fun, and I love running it in pvp, but its not as optimal a pve spec, as you don’t need the burst swaps as frequently. That being said, I am glad you are enjoying it and having fun! That’s the purpose of ele, and in that regard, we stand far ahead of any other class (imo).

When you’re up for trying out other traits in pve, I do highly recommend taking a look at the dungeon meta stickies – even if you are not running dungeon premades, they have a lot of good information in them and ideas for specs. In pve, I rarely feel that I am squishy enough to warrant 30 in arcane or water, but that stuff is fun. Particularly if you want to get into pvp, it is not bad to get used to some of the commonly chosen traits.

Fresh air is a popular build, but its a not good pve build. Its a sPvP build.

Scepter/Dagger have a terrible DPS, and should not use as your main weapon in PvE. Right now there is 3 family of build for the Ele PvE.

First, true, Fresh Air is a pvp spec, and not terribly useful in pve. Its one of our better pvp specs, but ele in general is rough at the moment in there, relative to the power creep of other classes.

Second, I would counter and say, S/x might not have high sustained damage (unless you count conjure/might stacking builds), but in open world / leveling pve, you don’t need high sustained dps. That only becomes important for things with tons of health, like a boss. For standard exploration / leveling, burst is fine because most stuff is dead by the time you finish one burst rotation. The plus side is that this can also prepare you for might combo fielding/conjures if you want to use that as your dungeon spec.

The reality of course is that anything works in world pve, so I hope that the OP has found some good suggestions in the thread that help him out.

This don’t change the fact that S/x have a terrible DPS. Of course its enough for completing most thing in the game, but again i can run 0/0/0/0/0, naked and be able to do most thing in the game.

Also true, but I’m just saying that for open world there is no need to focus on sustained dps, as burst damage will get the job done far quicker. And s/x is low sustain, but great for might blasting and picking up a conjure, then you have excellent dps. Regardless, glad that Haru is more comfortable on ele now!

These rewards are just a stepping stone for what is to come in the feature build. Try not to overanalyze these current rewards and sit tight. Unfortunately we cannot grant retroactive rewards with this type of change but just wait to see how we deal with this come the feature build! I can’t say anything further regarding that because it’s just way too big of a spoiler, but information is coming soon.

Thank you for the information – stuff like this goes a long way with forum goers at least. (not being sarcastic)

Question though, and hopefully you might be able to answer this: Why does the removal of the glory etc… and the implementation of the new pvp rewards have to be separate? Is this a technical difficulty? Merely one of convenience? A question that cannot be answered due to revealing too much? I am curious why there is a gap?

Also – will ranks be adjusted to a flat increment? Because, otherwise, as mentioned previously, it seems that the higher you are ranked, the more time consuming it will be to attain a reward – so higher ranked players are awarded for the their time less than lower ranked players. Unusual system to say the least, especially given that the pve-side of things (achievement points, basic leveling) all is far more forgiving and even (no drastic curves like in other mmos).
