I thought I’d summarize my week facing CD in an artistic fashion.

My first question. What do you wish this build to accomplish? The very first thing I noticed when I followed the link was Restorative Mantras. This would be great if you were investing in healing power/team support (such as bringing Null Field to further keep your team/party safe) however the armor is set such for a condition damage set up. I would personally drop Restorative Mantras and use Malicious Sorcery. At least that will boost your only real source of damage (conditions) and allow you to use the block and confusion more often.

In all honesty, the rest of the set up (in my opinion) is fine. I would personally use Torch just for the stealth to proc PU more often, however the reasoning for Pistol is understandable. (adding another Chaos field would actually benefit having the iDuelist a little more, since he’s going to be hitting a little lackluster on his own, perhaps Feedback, or Null Field).

Utilities, obviously keep decoy. I would trade veil for null field and trade mantra of resolve for Arcana Thievery (if you wanted that extra condition removal in these dark times of condition spammers) or Blink, for obvious reasons.

As for the heal, Mantra of Recovery is fine if you want to use the 2 uses as condition cleanse (since you traited for cleanse on heal) however since you have traited for reduced damage per illusion you clearly intend to keep illusions around, Ether Feast would benefit greatly from that.

I can’t speak for everyone, but weeks like this I just like to try and find as many duels/small fights as I can.

I actually met a very nice charr mesmer from DH today. After fighting this morning, and then meeting up by chance this afternoon, we chatted and I’m gonna give him some pointers since he admitted to being new to the class and honestly I think he’s got wonderful potential.

Honestly, that’s what makes this game wonderful to me. Almost every week I manage to find someone like this on an opposing server and trade tips and get better as individuals.

At the end of the day, nothing that happens in wvw means a thing except the impression you left, and the reputation you earn.

Edit: For the record, if you find a mesmer /beckon and /bowing like crazy at you, it’s probably me trying to get a duel out of you. Don’t build a bali and shoot at me, I’m not trying to take your tower I promise. (Yes, this just happened )

Charr ranger you say?

Charr, since back in GW1, were usually shown having trained devourers at their service, so of course having pets wouldn’t look strange for Charr. A Charr hero in GW1 was even a ranger, Pyre Fierceshot. As for Legion, either Ash or Blood would make the most sense thematically. I personally chose Blood only because my other Charr was already in Ash.

It will be a little harder since you can’t learn by making one, but still not impossible. The advice above to use the pet to your advantage (such as epidemic) is smart, but only if you stay close enough to the ranger himself. I’m guessing since you (the OP) was talking about conditions that you are running a condition set up, scepter/dagger&staff? Consider abusing the Scepter 2 and Staff 3 (as well as DS 2, and DS 5) to keep the ranger close to you. By playing aggressively you keep an area of danger around yourself, which will make the ranger start focusing on attempting to avoid the damage. Now he’s not fighting as effectively, and is prone to making mistakes that you can capitalize on.

Whenever I face a ranger on any of my characters (even my own ranger) I immediately go face tank aggression mode. Usually the ranger is so used to being able to hide behind his pet and pew pew with his bow he won’t be expecting it, and as a necro if you just spam your conditions on top of you/him/pet you’ll mess him up.

I’m not a pro necro/ranger/player by any means, but I do play both classes very often in pvp and am always more than happy to give any advice I can.

I would recommend if you have the available character slot, to make a ranger and play a little bit. Just go straight into spvp, fiddle with traits/weapons/armor combos just to get a feel of what the ranger has to work with. Pay extra attention to the cooldowns, and the animations for skills as well as how the pet works. Once you have a basic grasp of what the ranger has, you can then get back on your necro and try using what you’ve learned.

The best way to beat a class is to learn how that class works. Also, if you have a guildie or any friends that play ranger, ask them to duel with you in spvp. I’ve done that for a friend before, it really does help.

Someone being defeated will always find a reason why it’s not their fault they lost. “Hide behind your AC’s, Leet zerg, blah blah etc etc.”

Get over yourselves please. If in a particular instance you lost the fight due to being hit by an AC, or facing more numbers than your own, then you as a player messed up. Deal with it. You have the same options as your opponents that beat you, it was your choice to not use those options and instead hinder your own success. Every server and every player ever has been in a zerg, has spammed seige, has had outnumbered and has been the larger force. It’s how the game works.

I wonder when being on the losing end of a fight suddenly meant that you were a better player than your opponents. If you were a better player, you would win despite the odds. Oh wait, then you would just be an OP class using a cheap set up according to the people who lost against you. Endless circle of excuses.

I’ve already fallen behind since the release of Ascended Trinkets. Working and college have made me choose one of my five characters to gear with Ascended Trinkets, while the rest of my characters are sticking with Exotics. With the new weapons and, inevitably, armor comes out my one character will continue to advance and leave the others behind.

And when the next upgrades are released after that my alts will slowly just become obsolete. Cool.

Since when does feminine=boobilicious? I mean goodness, someone states they want a little style and instantly that means we’re going to go full DD-cup furries? Calm yourselves please. Like I stated previously, I like the current armor we have, and I made very pretty/feminine (COME AT ME I SAID IT) charr with what I had to work with, and they’ll still kick your kitten if you mess with them. Is it so wrong I didn’t want to look like brutes? A little variety isn’t bad, I mean if you’re arguing that “It’s against the lore” I implore you to look at half the armor in the light category and tell me just how much goes with the lore. I see charr wearing a frilly flower dress (TA armor) in ALL the lore stories. (Sarcasm at it’s finest)

As we all know, Thief is the only class who Posssesses the most Exceeding Skills, Traits lines, Stengths, Powers, Mobilities, Speed, Stealth-Perma-Stealth, Invulnerability, Escapability, Reversing Time and Immunity to conditions in all Class Combined.

Ah yes, the ’ol 30/30/30/30/30 build utilizing the Rewind Time spell. My favorite set up.

Both of my charr are in the same warband. I make sure all of my characters are connected somehow.

In any light, I love the charr, and have 2 myself. I prefer for my characters to have a hint of femininity to them (sue me, I like being able to relate to my characters) and it’s not impossible to do with the charr. I mean, you can’t say that she’s not pretty.

Also nice seeing Tetra working the necro. You and the other power necro in your group hit like kitten trucks… Thief didn’t help survivability either… Hopefully I can make an elite defense team someday to “entertain” the good roamers… Heh heh heh… >=) For now living the PuG commander life, lol

The charr necro was actually myself (takes a bow) Name’s Rose. And thanks for the compliment I’ve been working for a while on her. My main is a mesmer so it’s difficult having a character that doesn’t have a million and one escapes.

If you’re running with a group of 10 or more, the logical solution for another server is to try and gather the numbers to counter your group. Common sense. Zergs-wars are a part of wvw and always will be.

If you’re looking for roaming fights, there is pretty consistently a duo group roaming your BL that is always looking for fights. Break away from the pack and find us.

This is going to come off kittenish but its 100% true, you guys run more then fight.

I would respond by posting all the screens of the fights I get into where it’s 2v5’s and up this week so far (I screen everything), but I wouldn’t want to embarrass you. Let’s just say all servers have it’s bad players.

I don’t have an opinion on the matter frankly, but seeing everyone resort to insults such as “You should be playing Hello Kitty Online instead” is sickening and you guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Someone having an opinion that is not the same as yours is not ‘wrong’, they simply have a different view than yours and if you can’t have a civilized discussion about the two sides then please drop the topic entirely.

The choice depends on how you expect fights to play out.

A friend and I duo roam 99% of the time we are online. We have multiple characters and thus multiple combinations that we run with; Thief/Thief, Thief/ Mesmer, Mesmer/Gaurdian, Necro/Gaurdian, Ele/Thief, etc etc the list goes on and on.

Our main combo is myself on Mesmer and him on Thief, as those are our two mains. I go into the fight knowing that I’m going to have to handle the majority of the opposing groups focus, as I’m actually visible during the fights. My mesmer is set up specifically to handle that kind of pressure, and my playstyle on her allows my friend to play his role of high burst while I play my role of distraction and confusion (not the condition, the actual human state of mind). Facing numbers larger than us is pretty easy, we often-times win fights 2v5 and so on, simply because of how comfortable we’ve gotten with eachothers play-style.

When we duo roam as two thieves, neither of us has the luxury of having someone to hold the opposing parties attention. As thieves we both use a lot of stealth, my set up uses SA and Blinding Powder so I play a more supportish role in case the fight goes poor for us. When we fight larger groups we tend to just down a few and harass the group to make them mad, and then leave before the AoE starts. Fights against even numbers are pretty easy.

So basically you have to think about what your individual playstyles are, and how comfortable you are with each class. Then think what kind of fights you intend to engage in, and what role each of you will play in those fights. Duo roaming is probably the most fun I have when in wvw.

I was coming in here to say nice fights and that it’s great you’re doing so well at your chosen play style…

But then I saw your replies and realized how much of an arrogant jerk you are. If you expect others to have a decent conversation with you about opinions on playstyles you aren’t going to get it with that pretentious attitude. You’re good yes but far from the best I’ve seen, certainly not warranting a high and mighty attitude such as the one you’re flaunting.

Glad you got Foghaven back DH? By the looks of it our little group made a lot of people irritated, just based on how many came the…what was it…4th time when you finally had enough to get rid of us?

Fun while it lasted ~ My favorite part was when you had the treb trying to hit the camp. Classic.

Fun fights in ET BL just before reset. Small man GT (and one VLK ;P) party against ET zerg, small man comes out on top ~

First mistake you made:
“I decided to be a mesmer because I heard they were pretty good in combat and WvW.”

A class being good does not mean you are going to be good at that class. Becoming a good player takes time and effort, more than just a week of play is going to have earned you. You will get better, but only if you work at it. Learn the class, watch other players, anything. It’s more than just saying “Hey this class is strong I’ll be able to win with it.”

When you lose in pvp, look at what you did wrong. Were you being unaware of incoming enemies? Were you just mindlessly spamming skills? Were you lining clones on the right target to shatter?

Use each match as a learning tool, every battle as experience of what you should have done and what you still have to learn.

You can use the strongest class with the strongest set up and if you don’t know how to use it you’ll still lose.

I wish all of you the best of luck this coming week. I haven’t seen anything saying if we’re facing each other again or not, but regardless I hope we do see each other again ~ I’ll miss the cool players I’ve met on both ET and FC.

Not normally one to boast, but a friend and I have just spent the passed hour in ET’s BL, fighting this group of about 5+ ET’s and wiping them constantly. They finally managed to kill us when we separated since I was talking to a nice ET ele that wanted build advice. It was a fun night, I wish we had those fights recorded.

After that I fought this ET necro who proceeded to destroy me with her condition/fear build. Very well played, I knew there was no way I was winning that fight. Condition continue to be my downfall, no matter what character or set-up I’m using.

And, by the slight chance the ele I was talking to reads the forums, I hope you figure out a set up you like and I can’t wait to fight you again once you do. ~ And I hope my advice helped.

Just to put my own input here, I think it’s unfair to hate on a whole server for the actions of a few.

Once you talk to people from other servers you find there are really cool people there. I’ve met a couple from ET, and a few from FC, and they’re alright. Usually it’s after we fought and one of us won and we’ll party and chat for a while to stroke each others ego’s. :P I’ve met some really good and cool people that way. In fact, I have people that I’ve met on every server we’ve faced since I started playing.

Respect goes a long way.

That’s amazing. I never realized that guardian’s would be durable enough to handle that. I’m literally amazed.

You should be a little more modest about how amazing you are. If anyone has the right to be boastful it’s certain guilds in ET that are highly coordinated and always a gracious fight. Much more enjoyable than someone trying to stroke his own ego.

Anyway, tonight I met a really cool FC thief while dueling. We had a really awesome fight which he won, and then while we were chatting I DC’d and lost the party. Anyway he was a pleasure to talk to and really fun to fight, I hope to find him again sometime for a rematch ~Guild tag was something that began with K.

As much as this thread makes me laugh, with all the forum warriors going at it, I do hope people don’t take the few on these forums to represent the masses of HoD.

I personally have enjoyed our match-up thus far, the fights are good sized (I prefer small group roaming) and the servers seem relatively equal in overall numbers. As for any double teaming, I don’t really believe in those as it’s a 3v3 and it’s not like each server is going to attack the opponent to their left in a little circle.

Also, and this is just my personal opinion, but this is tier 8. Let’s try and have fun during out time together here at rock bottom. ~

Hey guys ~ Thanks for the kind words, I honestly came into this thread expecting some kind of rage post or something.

Fighting ET and FC has been wonderful, I personally find the match-up very balanced and the fights are always great. I’m sure many other HoD’s feel the same, especially those that appreciate the small fights.

This week I took a break for PvE shiny things and to finish gearing my alts. I feel that the absence of HoD this week is a mix of people doing the PvE things and probably getting tired in general. I know that sometimes I’m just exhausted from wvw, and even though I don’t believe there is a double team on HoD you do have to admit that both servers give us a lot of attention. It’s gets exhausting. Understandable, as green is the obvious target, but tiring none-the-less.

As a side note, I can’t speak for everyone on HoD but I myself am in college and this has been my finals week, so making it online has been scarce.

I do hope to see people out there in the field these next weeks. If you see someone running around spamming Dolyak tonics during fights that’s probably me. After all, this is tier 8, let’s just have fun ~

When something is designed that directly counters a play style it’s wrong.

I don’t like that Guardians can tank 5+ people, I think it’s bull. Why can’t I have a trap that renders all of their virtues and buffs useless for 30 seconds? But people like to say “oh but guardians are meant to be able to tank”…well I hate to say it but thieves are meant to be able to weave through stealth.

“Thieves are expert in the shadow arts. They utilize STEALTH and shadow-steps to surprise and to get close to their target.”

Hell we have an entire trait line dedicated to stealth…idiots.

I used to hate thieves too, trust me I was there. But now I love fighting them, because downing a thief when he’s stealthed and seeing his downed body reveal in front of me is so satisfying. You know why? Because I got better as a player. Try is sometime.

The saving grace of the trap is it’s cost, and the small area it effects. And the channel-time. The idea behind the trap is terrible, giving everyone an ability to counter a specific play style is just such a bad idea, but right now the execution is decent. The only thing I think is wrong is the obscene reveal time. 10 seconds would have been okay in my opinion, makes it able to counter portal mesmers (like myself), but doesn’t leave people totally screwed out of their build for 30 seconds.

Kinda sad how the only way FC can take on two of us is by gathering everyone on the map together. The more people you bring the more flattered I feel. ~

ET has a Charr mesmer, guild tag FT I think it was. I like him, he is really fun to fight and plays really really well. Hats off to him.

Update, since my thief’s armor is FINALLY done. Here she is ~ Got some inspiration from this thread. She used to be black and purple and pretty lame, now she is Hazel, Emerald, and Evergreen with Red eyes to make it pop.

Mesmer is a faceroll class that has so many ways to avoid damage. I cannot respect such for getting away since it is very easy to do on a Mesmer. I almost feel like I have a god mode cheat on when I play my Mesmer.

It’s pretty rude and inconsiderate to simply demean a players efforts because of the class they play. He/she probably worked hard to learn their class. I myself have spent countless hours learning my characters, and trying to be the best I can be.

Regardless of that, the mesmer is kinda the class that is meant to be elusive and tricky. That’s like saying you can’t respect a Guardian because he has too many ways to tank damage and heal himself.

In any light, I do enjoy posts like this. Good sportsmanship is always great to come by. Keep it up ~

No, fashions are a waste in this game as you can’t wear them during combat which is a huge drag. So no, not many people buy things of this nature in the game.

Post was about the hair kit, which changes the color of your hair, which totally stays with you when you go into combat.

Btw, totally love that blue hair with the armor colors Jeneva, the contrast is amazing and works beautifully.

hmm. Well I am a fan of actual names for characters (like a first and last name. I cringe when I see names like “Illusions delusion” and things like that everywhere). Your character strikes me as a Laurent for some reason.
