{Non PvE}All "movement" weapon skills

in Profession Balance

WhiteRose.6934

So for an action-combat based game, you want to remove part of what makes combat interesting? The use of these movement abilities as re-position tools while in combat (ranger greatsword dash to dash out and get behind allies in a group fight and change to range) and instead make combat static? That’s not the intention of the skills at all. They are not just ‘gap closers’ they are mobility tools and are used as such.

I hate to inform you, but disengaging is a part of combat just as much as engaging is.

So, as for videos just search specifc classes you’re interested (example: ranger wvw roaming) or look up specific guilds (Example: GT guild roaming)

Compositions really only matter if you and your roaming party are going full serious mode. However in general it is good to have some people with more sustain (warrior/gaurdian) and some AoE (ele, engineer) and bursts (Thief, mesmer) etc etc. When roaming with my own guild we don’t plan our traits and comp around eachother, at most we just fill what we might be lacking (example being if we’ll have a gaurdian if everyone else is on glass cannons) things like that.

And yes, I used GT (Genesis Theory) as an example because we do have a channel with a few videos up. Feel free to search for them. :P Also I can help in game if you ever want to ask questions there about classes or whatever.

Oh, and facing thieves just takes time and patience. Eventually you get better at it, but just due to the nature of the thief class it’ll always be an annoyance to deal with.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

WhiteRose.6934

I actually have a question regarding a statement made earlier in the thread, saying that the amount of time it takes to acquire Ascended Armor will be watched.

Does this mean that if it seems easy for a majority of players, that another tier will be added “because we feel Ascended was too easy to get”?

I ask this not as a player with Ascended, but as a player who isn’t going to progress passed Exotic. I don’t play “to progressively get stronger” and all that stuff that keeps getting thrown around. Call me crazy but I like getting my character to the end point and continuing on to actually enjoying the game. Gw1 did an excellent job of this, and Gw2 did before all this Ascended was added.

I’ve already seen players that have full Ascended, due to either paying with money or having farmed the passed months to save up the required materials. I don’t have this luxury for my 6 characters (as a full time college student), and so I’ll be staying at Exotic. I’m already faced with the concern that I’ll be obsolete next to other players, but if Ascended is deemed “too easy” like exotic was and another teir is added I’ll be beyond left in the dust.

What you seem to miss is that it’s not about my opinion.
It’s about the reasonability that people can be appalled by this.

And apparently a lot of people here only care about themselves and show absolutely empathy towards the possibility of this.

It is your opinion. Everything you are stating here, is opinion. Do you not know the definition of opinion?

Opinion (noun): a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

Let me help you out.

“The biggest problem I have this armor is that it simply doesn’t live up to the quality I expect of a game.”

Opinion. Your opinion is that this armor doesn’t live up to the games quality. My opinion, in contrast, is that this armor is beautifully designed and is definitely up to standards.

It also does not belong to the fantasy world that is Tyria.

Opinion. Your opinion is that this armor doesn’t belong in the world of Tyria. My opinion, in contrast, is that this armor fits exactly into Tyria, especially when armors such as Light Masquerade and Light Inquest (side boob hour anyone?) exist in the same universe.

What I think of the armor itself is irrelevant to this topic.

This entire thread is about what you think of the armor, which is an opinion. Dont make me quote all of your stuff again.

“The biggest problem I have…” Obviously doesn’t mean what you think of it right?

Your whole case is that you think this armor is wrong because of the under boob. Your points have been discredited, as stating it doesn’t fit in the world is clearly shown to be false when armors like Light Inquest exist. Your case is flawed, and your arguments through the thread are weak.

Cheers. ~

Sorry for going offtopic a bit here.

It is off topic. This thread is about one persons views on an armor, specifically how it is ‘immature’ and ‘insulting’. All personal preferences of course. People are saying how changing a piece of armor simply due to (an obviously small) opinion would be dumb.

However in contrast the thread you linked (and the reply that you posted) leads me to believe you are on the side of allowing people to keep a set of gem store armor that..
A) was not intended to be made for other races, and made an armor set non exclusive.
B) was put in the gem store and made the original armor worthless (half price)
C) Spit on the efforts of people who worked hard to design their characters based on the actual t3.

The gem store armor is being changed for those reasons. It is not being changed because of any of the reasons listed in this thread.
So no, the two threads are in fact not related. Take your campaign elsewhere.

Utility Skill Selections~?

in Mesmer

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

I’ll note on your specific skills you listed first, if you have any other skills you want to ask about I’ll comment on them as well.

Mantra of Pain: It’s useful as a quick burst of damage that you can use anytime (when stunned, when shattering, when attacking, when dodging, etc etc.) I’ve used this sometimes in my power set up just to keep pressure up when I’m healing or evading damage myself. Fast recharge makes it useful, just be careful not to charge it while under too much pressure yourself.

Mirror Images: Obviously with DE this doesn’t seem awe inspiring. I’ve used this in both my power shatter and condi shatter set ups, it allows for quick bursts of multiple shatters and is a stun break. Nice in pvp at time if a warrior or thief stuns you and you can instantly retaliate with a mind wrack with the quick 2 clones.

iDisenchanter: I’ve used this in a phantasm build before. Just having one of him makes conditions a lot easier to deal with. In a shatter set up maybe not the best as your illusions tend to not stick around too long.

Arcane Thievery: Always a nice option if you want condi removal (which in this condi spam state of the game is very usefull). I prefer mantra of resolve, as it’s on a short cooldown and easier to use (Arcane Thievery ‘acts’ as a projectile and thus can be dodged, blocked, etc which makes it unreliable at times.)

Signet of Domination: Personally I’ve never used this in a power set up, but I have in a condi set up for the free stats and in an interrupt build for both the active and stats. Could be useful in a power set up if you really wanted the stun but there are usually better options in that situation.

shatter = no reveal

When you shatter with a shatter that deals direct damage (mind wrack, Cry of Frustration) it gives revealed. I decided to ignore everything you had to say after this because you’re clearly biased in your opinion against mesmer’s abilities with no real knowledge on how they work.

Using Diversion (the daze) or Distortion (the invuln) doesn’t give revealed, just as thieves Caltrops (both the on dodge and utility) or Poison Gas does not give thieves reveal.

I recommend you pay a mesmer, learn how they work, and get better as a player.

Why not sell Fire Aura in Gemstore?

Just posted in a similar thread in BLTC forum:

I’d like it to be done using dungeon tokens:

AC: Blue ghostly.
CM: Golden.
TA: Leaves
SE: Red electric.
CoF: Fkitteneen.
HoW: Frost.
CoE: Electric.
Arah: Dark smoke.
All just light particle effects, as we saw. No major changes between types, but a cool way to “upgrade” and customise your armour through gameplay.

If they absolutely NEED to have it be gemstore, then cool. But they could just sell it as a character unlock. As in, you pay gems, and then have the ability to use tokens to customise your armour as much as you want on that character/account.

This person right here…I like.

Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

in Suggestions

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

I don’t really agree with making tier culti sets available to other races; because it’s what is cool that that race- aside from the race itself being different. It’s the only thing that to me GW has retained because in GW1 armors were profession based, Necros didn’t get ele armor, Mesmers didn’t wear ritualist armor- the only way you could have the same armor as another is if you played the exact same profession & that I appreciated.

I’d be bummed if other light armors of diff races wore the Tier 3 set my Asura Ele wears. Because then it wouldn’t really be unique and why did I go for trying to look different in armor in the 1st place?

I completely understand. Think about it though, do u really feel that unique as an Asura Ele with T3? I wear it too on my Asura Ele, it looks awesome, but I already see a lot of light armored asura wearing the same armor as you and me. I believe the only real way to get close to being unique in the game(aesthetically) is to mix and match, which is the reason I value having more options for mix and matching more than I value race uniqueness.

Having a full set of anything, no you aren’t totally unique. However take into account that, for example, only human’s can use t3 human cultural. Now take my mesmer as an example. All of her armor is mix and match, and the piece that sets it apart distinctly is the human cultural armor pieces.

Even the mix and match armor set ups get copied eventually if it’s common armor. I see clones of players all the time in the same mix-match armor. The armor pieces that are more exclusive to player choice (race, order, even gender) it’s those armor set ups that stand out.

I would like for there to be some semblance of uniqueness between the races, and currently cultural armor is it.

Edit: A quote from a Reddit user on the matter of cultural armor’s that is relevant to my point; “I totally understand the outrage even though I am personally not effect by it. Most of my characters are Norn and one of the biggest draw was the cultural armors. Often I get asked the mix-match sets and tbh, it feels great to be have a norn character when you tell them, that stag helm is for us norn only:P. I would be very unsatisfied if one day they are available for every race.”

It has been addressed only a thousand times in copious other threads that you could have easily found that your proposed idea is:

A) Not going to happen.
B) A bad idea.
C) Not going to happen.

Allowing the select few who got the armor before it was removed to keep the look would give those accounts an amount of value to having this skin, and allowing the skin to remain in the game would mean there was no point to Anet admitting it was a mistake to making the set be a reskin of an exclusive prestige racial skin and thus changing it in the first place.

TLDR: It’s not going to happen, just hope you like the skin they make and if not you get your gems back.

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

We will do a few things to address this issue.

  • We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
  • Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
  • We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
  • Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
  • When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

+100000000000000. Thank you so much Anet team!

And unfortunately they can’t make everyone happy, obviously people are going to be upset if they used the gems to get the set. A refund in gems is a fair trade in my opinion, there is plenty in the gem store to use those gems on, or save for a different set. People are just going to be upset they can’t have their cheap and easy t3 armor anymore.

Anet isn’t going to reply. They didn’t release the skin thinking nobody was going to notice or care. No company or designer is that naive.

They released the skin with full intention of “This is human tier 3 armor. We are now going to make it shiny, and sell it for gems.” The reason people’s topics are being deleted and not replied to is, surprise, because Anet doesn’t care.

They want to make money. They obviously know that the human cultural is popular (mainly for the females) because hey, it’s a nice set. What better way to rake in the gems than to make it available to everyone?

So now people who took the time to get the funds for this “exclusive” armor are cheated because the average person with $10 to spare can laugh because they look the same (arguably better) and it took nothing.

Coming this Christmas, “Frostkissed Armor” Medium Human Tier 3, with some ice effects.

Touche Anet, Touche.

MM vs stealthy thief

in Necromancer

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

Thieves can’t stealth every 2 seconds (if he attacked you/a minion, reveal is 3 seconds) just gonna correct you on that.
For arguments sake, maybe the thiefs stealth is just a good counter against your set up. Considering you’re depending on your minions for damage, and he’s using his defense (stealth) to avoid them, then he’s playing smart.
The best thing you can try and do is wait until he’s out of stealth and if you’re quick enough get your golem & fiend to knockdown + Immobolize him, then just spam marks and let your minions go to town.
Just keep in mind that your minions are literally a big ‘ol sign post that says "Hey, I don’t move, come stealth off of me", and it makes it relatively easy for thieves to avoid your minions attacks.

Letting NPCs abuse sPvP mechanics? Sure!

in Mesmer

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

This is seriously the most complain heavy post I have read on these forums. You have clearly not made the effort to learn anything about the various classes and mechanics in the game.

Mesmers can have 3 illusions out at once. This counts both clones and phantasms. (Your assumption about ‘clones and illusions’ is wrong. The two types are clones and phantasms, which by definition are both illusions and thus there are only 3 at once. For example: 1 clone, 2 phantasms= 3 illusions.) Please make a mesmer or have a friend who has a mesmer practice with you, as this is a learn to play issue.

Necros can have 6 minions (not counting the spawn from death magic 5). These minions are fairly easy to deal with with any kind of AoE or cleaving attacks. Necro’s death shroud is annoying, but is quickly burnt when they are focused and using any kind of CC on necro’s will leave them vulnerable to being focused. Learn to play issue.

You’re playing a ranger, based on your screen. Ranger is a fairly hard class to figure out in spvp, but build yourself appropriately and you’re fine. Spirit Rangers are fairly annoying, tanky/condition rangers are a pain to deal with. Obviously the set up you made isn’t adequate to deal with the spvp environment, so you need to adapt and grow from that experience and get better as a player.

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

But I have a thief too I can’t be accepted anywhere!

Edit: I should probably actually give some advice. The current confusion set up for mesmer (depending on if they depend on shatters for confusion or just scepter spam/perplexity) can be delt with fairly easily (at least in my opinion) by traiting your stealth to cleanse conditions. Abuse the fact that mesmer illusions don’t move and use them to C&D (if you run off hand dagger). I can testify that it’s literally the most annoying thing you can do, and I myself do it on my thief.

If they are running a confusion set up using shatters to stack confusion, then they are probably sacrificing some toughness/stealth (from traits) to instead trait into illusions for shatters. That means they just drop faster.

The D/P "permanent" Stealth conspiracy

in Thief

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

It’s not OP, but it is broken.

You shouldn’t have the ability to stay in stealth for the majority of the fight. Why is that considered skill? The post above by Frenk pretty much covers anything. I have an alt 80 thief, and I used to play D/P. It’s so easy to just #5>#2 move around a bit #5>#2 …etc etc.

While doing this you’re prohibiting your opponent any chance of counter play. Mesmers can’t possibly target to summon a phantasm, ranger pets are useless, melee classes are just flailing their weapons and rolling around, ele/necro is spamming aoe. The most they know is that you’re still around, since they can see the black powders, (that obviously they should be able to run into right as you’re putting them down). I always put my black powder right next to my opponent when I’m stealthing. (sarcasm)

The thief should have stealth, that is correct. Thieves should not be allowed to stay in stealth with such ease, there has to be some kind of effort involved. D/D thiefs, for example, have to run up to something to stealth. That in itself regulates some kind of counter, as a smart player will use that to his/her advantage. Dueling D/P thieves in wvw is literally a joke, and I just ignore them. I’m not wasting my time with someone who depends on a cheap mechanic.

And lastly, the ‘nerfs’ that are going to happen, just get over it. Adapt, get better as a player. Maybe you’ll realize you weren’t as great of a thief as you thought when you can’t stealth at every whim.

About new armor skins and some feedback

in Tower of Nightmares

Posted by: WhiteRose.6934

WhiteRose.6934

Not entirely; a lot of the more conservative armors I refuse to use for either my male or female characters because they look freaking awful. Too WoW’fied and covered in gewgaws on one end, and the others like the lowbie chain sets just look too slapdash or spray-painted on. I had been limping along using the legacy set as something knightly but not overly ornate on my Norn Guardian…which brings me to the second part:

The new set was great for males; it just really annoys me and probably others to have something assigned to the females that does not even look like it is the same set at all on top of the prior issue.

However we aren’t discussing taste, we’re discussing availability of styles; Conservative vs. Revealing. You can’t say “well there are armor sets that are conservative but I don’t like them, therefore those armors don’t count” because unfortunately the game was designed with more than just you in mind.

I can understand why people may be upset about the set being different from the males, but that doesn’t mean people who do enjoy the set should feel invalidated.

The point is, GW2 is an MMO. It has to cater to a countless amount of people’s styles and tastes. Personally, I think it does an awesome job. And the best part about the gem store armor, and all the armor in the game, is you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

And please, insult how I present myself more to validate your argument against armor styles in a fantasy MMO, I assure you that it helps your cause.

Thank you, actually. I’ve never really played humans or looked at their cultural gear. I’ve seen it on males plenty of times, but never on females until just now.

I apologize for offending you. What I said wasn’t necessary and was particularly badly worded. I hope to be able to avoid such mistakes in the future.

Edit: That’s a good list, thanks. It’ll be useful in the future.

That’s the issue in it’s entirety I believe. People focus on the few more revealing armors (that most people use, because god forbid they like them) and choose to ignore the vast amount of conservative armors that exist.

My point, is that it’s tiring how people can’t be excited for something that is their taste without having it instantly attacked for being debauchery, yet you don’t hear people like me complain when armors such as the ones listed previously exist. There are different tastes, and I think GW2 does an excellent job at having a balance for everyone.

And no offense taken.

I think the new both male and female armor looks stylish.
What is the problem do you want female armor to look exactly like male armor?
How is it a stripped out cleavage version just because it shows the hips ?
So what do you want , burqa ? I dont get it.

How do you assume that just because we don’t want a woman with boobs hanging out all over the place, we must want a burqa? We don’t want burqa’s, we’re just sick and tired of female characters being turned into sex objects and treated as playthings for men—instead of actual soldiers who need protection.

Please don’t use “we’re” as if you speak for everyone, especially not all girls. I’m actually tired of girls always causing crap like this because one armor set caters to the players that want their characters to look sexy and not layered in pounds of armor. It’s a fantasy game, let people have their fantasy. I for one love this armor set and plan on saving the funds to get it for my Gaurdian. I looked at the armor and literally thought “Finally an armor set for me.”

The reason why people think you want a burqa is because everytime an armor set, in any MMO, is revealing it instantly is attacked for being ‘out of taste’ and blah blah blah. 20 armor sets will then be released catering to your desires, and when one more is released that’s revealing it’s back too “OMG every female armor too revealing”.

So please, don’t try and speak for all of “us.” I prefer to not be associated with people who make noise simply for the sake of complaining.

It is out of taste.

Virtually no armor in this game is actually protective. You’re exposed. You’ll freeze to death in the Icier lands and die to normally glancing blows, if you follow realism.

Maybe you’re the kind of woman that prefers to show herself off and defy the laws of decency, but some ladies would prefer to look and be taken seriously.

http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/heavy_list.php

I encourage you to take a look at these armors, I think you will find plenty of armor that suits your needs of full covering, along with a few armors for those like me that want their characters to fit the theme of fantasy. That’s not even counting styles you can create by mixing sets together.

And please, insult how I present myself more to validate your argument against armor styles in a fantasy MMO, I assure you that it helps your cause.

About new armor skins and some feedback

in Tower of Nightmares

Need help with dyes

in Sylvari

WhiteRose.6934

Give me a couple minutes to log in and look at dyes and compare them with your screenshot. I should have some options for you shortly.

Edit: First Option ~ It’s a little pricey, but using Midnight Fire and Wrath will give you a sleek look that would compliment your dark ‘skin’ tone and your daggers. Use Oxblood for an even darker red tone instead of Wrath. The Midnight Fire is required in this combo to give the sleek look to the armor.

Maybe you accidentally rolled out of the Refuge and thus gained revealed? When you leave Refuge early you gain revealed, it’s part of the skill. If you stay inside the whole time you remain in stealth.

Incoming New Races.

WhiteRose.6934

here’s the thing Israfyl,

Playing as an undead would be cool. Playing as a giant bird that looks like a Charr with feathers and a beak would be cool too. Playing as a sentient Polar/Kodiak/etc. bear would be cool as well. Playing as a faceless being of the deep oceans that wears a mask and has butterfly wings would be cool as well. But…can you make any point to justify their existence in the game?

You can justify Tengu, Kodan, and Largos because they are almost large enough to be on equal footing with the 5 major races. They don’t have the same Influence across Tyria that a Human or Norn, Charr, Asura, or Sylvari would have, but they are also not weak minor races that get instantly stomped all over the place by everyone else (Dragons and Major Races). They all have their own cultures, customs, and beliefs that while not entirely in the game, it would make sense if they were. even Skritt, Centaurs, Hylek, Ogres, Grawl, Jotun, Dredge, Krait, Yetis, and Quaggans could eventually be put in there in some way, if they weren’t so primitive/unintelligent/weak/evil/etc. by comparison to the major races, which could easily be expanded on in future guild wars games.

But Undead, which is just a mixed up mismash of the other races, and have no actual culture or religion (except worshipping their evil Necromantic masters, Palawa Joko or Zhaitan, Can’t leave that out), and there is absolutely nothing that makes them stand out from an actual race (other than their undying loyalty to their evil masters). An undead in Guild Wars 2 is no different than the Minions that the Necromancer Profession controls. They are easy to raise, easy to control, and above all else, expendable.

Now, if anyone on this thread wants to justify the existence of an Undead race that would be unique enough to warrant its existence and stand on equal footing with the 5 races already playable, then go for it. But, until someone does, I’m here to disagree with undead as a playable race

+1 sir or madam for a wonderfully thought out and presented post.
