Of course a Mesmer is going to say we’re wanted. Why would anybody be lurking in this class forum if they felt otherwise.
Mesmer has enough utility to help any group but they are squishy if you build for straight dps. Of course you could just take 5 guardians and be done with it nobody in their right might takes 5 mesmers.
Show me how well your build fares against:
Thief
Mesmer
and vs the Zerg which is all too commonly found in WvW and non tourney PvP
trying your build in the mists and spvp. let me describe it
- clunky
- slow
- far more effort for mediocre results (this one will change if i choose to really get familiar with the setup)
- survivability is low / there is no hiding amongst your clones with mantra’s
- little to nothing that can be done vs BS thief/ 100b war wasn’t too bad as long as i had my blink up
(edited by Wise.8025)
so the game is out quite a while now , people have gotten used to combo fields/finishers, how about adding some new finishers? maybe class unique combo fields/finishers.
for ex. if elementalist lays a fire combo field he can either change the blast to ‘give area might’ or ‘burn everyone for 2 ticks’ or just ‘plain more damage’ from the actual blast. its either one of those,. not all. this adds more variation to fields/finisherrs
would like to know some ideas on other classes havent given it as much tought but i think its good.
my 2 cents.
Great idea. I support this fully, with one small adjustment. Seeing as Ele already has a class unique combo field “lightning” how about giving a unique one to everybody else now.
Why is their chat suppression is tourney’s? If I have to say Mine 3 times in a row to my group and then I get suppressed for spamming, all I can say is WTF.
I understand chat suppression in /map if you’re being obnoxious, or spamming. I understand you could be a kitten in team chat and spam, but it’s something I have never experienced even from solo queuing into tourney’s. I spent the entire rest of the tournament suppressed from chat because I called out my point multiple times.
/signed annoyed player
Isn’t the joke Mesmer, Guardian, Thief = GW2 holy trinity? I don’t think ANet plays favorites to elementalists.
You’re joking right?
Ele currently has the strongest bunker build.
They have amazing sustain in their bunker spec too plus a whole lot of team support and healing.
People have been learning how to play Ele, Necro, Ranger, Engi and every single one of those classes is formidable in pvp on more than 1 build. Even War has a couple of very strong builds, albeit not a favorite for team mechanics on some maps.
I cant believe the people in this thread yelling about mesmers having poor damage and claiming phanstasm are pets.
People spec badly so the class must have poor damage. It’s better to learn to spec right in the first place for what you wanna achieve.
Currently my mesmer deals around 3k MW crits, 8-9k crits for iWarlock and iZerker with a 30/30/0/0/10 spec. It also comes with great damage buffs for my group, like massive stacks of vulnerability aswell as haste. The damage from phantasms along with the WM instaganks anyone it touches pretty much. Staff2+Mirror+daze shatter, followed by a iLock+iZerker+GS2+MW and you have a downed whatever.
The group I run with in fractal (on my engi (2 engi, 1 war, 1 guard, 1 mesmer)) usually takes down the power suit after the second cauldron is dropped on him, thanks to our lovely mesmer. 10 sec haste is fun. On a bad run he dies at the third.
And regarding phantasms, no they are not pets or summons, they are offensive spells, ment for dealing damage. None of them stick to your group, their prime directive is to inflict damage. They have passive defensive abilites, but they are gone after each kill.
They are your outstretched grasping hand.
But then again plasmacutter.2709, you said rampagers gear and you’re amazed you deal low damage? Maybe you should try berserker gear and spec so your shatters and phantasms actually deal damage?
All primary phantasmal attacks are based on your attack, zerkers WW, duelists pew pew pew, locks bolt and so on. The only part of a phanstasm thats based on your condition damage would be the bleed proc and confusion some of them inflict.
Staff and even scepter are better for a power+crit spec than for a condition spec. The phantasms just deal that much damage.
Lol you’re definitely playing WvW if you’re using a build like that, and getting numbers like that from phantams.
It’s a shame so many people are being so critical of somebody voicing their frustrations on the forums. Very few if any people are truly going to shelf their Mesmers over the recent changes. The class is unique and still fun to play. Change was expected but the retraction of SS on top of the exploit fix was not necessary and was simply an obvious example of ANet being reactive to the qq’ing on the forums and not sticking to their stated “we change the game in small measures” philosophy. Fixing or slapping a band-aid on shatters would have been enough. If there was still an issue SS could have been adjusted.
Again this thread is really more about somebody venting their frustrations than anything else. Mesmer has been hit by the nerf bat relentlessly, and the OP has had enough.
I would like to see an adjustment to the way Heartseeker works. The damage is fine, but the mechanics behind it are far too easily spammed for amazing results. Sure there needs to be something that allows new players to feels they have something powerful when playing a thief, but how about we get rid of the heatseeking super long range aspect of heartseeker.
I have several times blinked away from a heartseeker spamming thief only to have them fly to my location since they were in mid-air when I blinked allowing them to travel a range of 900 and still successfully hit me. Restrict the range it allows the thief to move, somebody dodge rolling away should successfully be out of range of a heartseeker spammer. The thief should then have to move into position again to continue their spamming.
I really like the stealth mechanics in mmo games, but it’s always the same issue in PvP. People feels it’s unfair that the class with the highest and fastest burst potential is able to remain out of sight. Now in GW2 it’s out of sight for an entire fight while still dealing damage. You may argue that thief doesn’t stay in stealth for a whole fight because it’s impossible, but when you see first hand a thief kill not 1 but 2 people before giving off that little black cloak flash to reappear you know something isn’t working as intended. It could be lag? Sure but if it’s lag and they just haven’t completely rendered on my screen why can I still not tab target them? I do not have a solution for fixing stealth other than to suggest that they not be able to use skills while stealthed and have it not break stealth and if I don’t have a target and a thief attacks me from stealth I want them to be auto targeted.
The blindness effect is essentially point blank despite the tooltip reading a range of 240.
Even at a range of 130, which is the max range for a sword auto attack or blurred frenzy, the blindness effect will not hit a target.
Also for The Prestige is the incorrect damage output
Read the patch notes – Felt pretty singled out as a mesmer. Would have loved to see some bug fixes and some other balancing done. Double nerf for mesmer, removal of the previous buff and added a global CD to our shatters.
Somebody felt that mesmers needed a buff that would provide might and allow for some additional damage output and gave us Shattered Strength at 3 might per illusion shattered. The VERY next patch this is reduced back down to 1 per illusion with a longer duration PLUS they don’t want shatter spamming so they put a CD on shatters to prevent us from dazing or distorting simultaneously with our Mind Wrack so that we’re vulnerable.
It seems like a minor adjustment and I am sure it is livable but I just do not understand the need for the global CD. I did expect the nerf to Shattered Strength because it was being abused.
Also not noted in the mesmer nerf is the damage reduction done to Mind Wrack that now no longer scales above 4 clones. Which in my opinion was the only thing they needed to change to balance the shatter strength debacle.

Heh we just finished with the math, get excited for GC mesmers!
My brain killed itself after reading this thread. What’s GC again? Let’s start fresh. I came here because this topic was about GS mesmers.
I was going to post footage I recorded of iZerker missing his second round of attacks, but upon review it seems that there was damage done just not significant and the damage numbers never appeared above the golem.
Damage is still inconsistent though. Sometimes I hit for 1k and sometimes I hit for 4k. Staff phantasm is far more reliable but does not provide any aoe output. I guess our damage is not suppose to be huge with phantasms and we’re really just supposed to stick to the shatters for our burst.
My problem with using full zerker GS phantasm to burst is the same as my issue with all illusions. When you want to dps you spec heavily into power and crit, but when you do that your illusions have 500ish health and anything/everything will kill them. I still often find them dying before getting off their first strike, and almost always before their second strike.
FTW. 15k health is plenty with GS imo. Who else runs a glass cannon mes? This is the most fun ive ever had in an MMO! Huge thanks to Anet for fixing zerker for us =)
I am confused, when did they fix zerker for us? I didn’t witness any patches, and I find that my zerker often still misses 100% of his second attacks.
Nothing has been fixed as far as I can tell at this time and frankly I still don’t care for the reduced damage on zerker, but I am glad that it is a functional enough weapon that I can use it if I have to.
Edit: After further thought the damage on zerker is decent as it is, but it’s the missing that makes me feel as though it had a significant reduction.

I missed this shatter bug, what exactly is bugged about shatter?
There’s no bug. People assume it’s a bug because ANet hasn’t commented on it. It has to do with using a Shatter 2 or 3 and then popping out 3 more clones and hitting Mind Wrack so that you get the additional clone count for damage scaling.
Personally I think the scaling was intended, I just don’t think they expected people to get7-9 clones being counted in the shatter scale. To fix the issue they simply just need to cap the shatter scaling at a max of 5 or 6 clones. It’s not even really an issue for the most part since it has been around since beta, but now that more people are aware of it there’s been an endless stream of QQ threads.
If there’s a bump in the terrain, if you’re on an uphill slope, if they blind you, if they dodge, if they block, if they invuln, if they are moving uphill away from you, expect the skill to fail on use and go straight to CD. If you are doing it properly then expect to do it from about 200 range, it’s closer to 450 when facing downhill or on a flat area.
So i golo solo for tpvp way too often simply cuz i h8 ppl.
Not a big deal you lose to crappy teams cuz ur own team is even crappier.
I wouldnt mind that but having to wait 3! kittening minutes just to get the round to start after waiting for the team and tournament to set up is just too long.Reduce it to 1 minute it would still be waaaaay more time than anyone could ever need.
Bump thread if you agree – flame on if you dont
I actually think that for Free Tournaments, 1 minute would be fine. It’s still enough time to get your strategy in (in frees it’s mostly the same strats each time anyway). In Paid Tournaments, I think the current time is fine. So ya, I agree.
I like the 1 minute idea. Nobody ever uses the “ready up” button anyway, they just run around killing each other until the match starts.
In frees you’re either a random team that isn’t likely to strategize or it’s a very simple strategy, or you’re on voice chat in your premade group. 1 minute seems more than enough
In paids you’re almost always in voice chat and have a strategy already worked out or you know the moves.
The only reason that a shorter clock wouldn’t work is because of the 20-30 minute queue times and everybody is going AFK. 3 minutes gives you plenty of time to get your drink/pee/smoke/peeponyourneighbor or whatever it is you do. If we had proper queue’s there would be no reason for people to afk for extended periods because they’d know the game would be up in a moment.
Tried builds like this in tourney’s. As much as I enjoy using different builds I still find that the inability to put up protection when needed get’s me insta-killed by any class with a burst. The boon uptime is really nice, but if you’re not adding something to the team or you’re unable to carry your own weight in a 1v1 or 2v2 scenario then you shouldn’t be using builds like this.
I haven’t found a place for a support mesmer in pvp yet, pretty much the only role I feel mesmer is effective at is DPS, and there I think with the incoming nerfs “bug fixes” we’re going to go back to mediocre dps in pvp again.
Reflector idea sounds amusing, and I would love to find a Glamour build that actually works. Problem is that the traits are all over the place and you seem to give up so much dps and survivability that it’s just not viable in any real situation
(edited by Wise.8025)
Screenshots for proof (sorry couldn’t edit main post for some reason). Don’t mind the low res graphics. It’s the only way I can do WvWvW without rendering issues.
Your screen shots indicate you do not have enough money for the repairs when he’s actually refusing to repair it. Your screen shots only tell me that it’s working, maybe see if you can find one that shows you have enough money and he refuses you
so shouldn’t they change that? it’s quite misleading and useless.
Because the mesmer is not on their priority list.
Have no fear of that. We are most definitely on their priority list, in fact we are at the very top for incoming nerfage.
Indeed. Forget tooltips, at the end of Beta we were promised an overhaul of Mesmer traits. There’s been some minor changes since then but no where close to an overhaul.
Where was this said? Mesmer traits do need an overhaul but it was my understanding that they weren’t going to do that and they would just tweak the really kittenty and useless ones to make them appear to be more appealing. ie the 1 second cloaking GM trait in Chaos line that they added cloaking effects to.
We should make a list somewhere of all the useless traits we have. Anything to do with interupts is essentially useless for example or mantra’s.
It isn’t an exploit, it’s simple game mechanics. You can tell when he uses Cloak & Dagger to stealth, you can tell when he uses his heal to stealth, you can see the Shadow Refuge.
Of course, there are things you can do about it. You can time your dodge such that he misses his C&D after a few seconds (though with a Phantasm out, it’s guaranteed if he wants it). That’ll force him to use one of his other stealth mechanics to disappear. You can keep dropping the AoE. He isn’t capping the point or endangering it in any way, so it isn’t having a negative impact, really.
But you already know those things. I’m only listing them because some other guy who doesn’t get the point is going to try to bring them up.
The point is that Stealth is a poorly designed mechanic, and there’s absolutely no punishment while being in stealth. It isn’t fun to go up against something like this beyond laughing at it once or twice, and personally, it seems like a very unhealthy mechanic to not fix in some fashion moving forward.
I’m of the opinion any direct damage received while stealthed should break it instantly, because I have no sympathy for people who have to crutch on disappearing anywhere at any time to get away.
However, other good ideas (such as showing a visual on the thief when he does get hit, for .5 seconds or 1 second, as a sign you did something productive) have been tossed around as well.
It really isn’t about imbalance, it’s just about design that isn’t fun.
This thief was either doing that to troll or was just learning how stealth works. If he was good and had wanted to he could have killed them at any point or at least been doing some damage.
Eagle = Top teams
Goat = Everybody else
This is why we need a Ladder asap and forget the structure of it. No need to redo what they have in place for PvP until they separate the prey from the predators.

I don’t think its good for the health of the game for Guardians to be able to kill people 1v2 in ~1 second.
/Signed; Thief/Warrior Player
At it again I see Jumper.
Well for the number of times I’ve been jumped by a glass cannon guardian I think I couldn’t really care a whole lot less about time being spent to nerf that terrible terrible build. When it becomes an issue I’m sure that the forums will have endless threads QQing about it. You should be able to relate since you signed off as a Thief/Warrior players.
Maybe if I understood WHY you have been posting all these videos with builds asking for a growing list of classes to get nerfed other than Thief/War. Are you wanting to preserve their place in the cheese burst factory?
Thought this was rather funny to be honest, but figured it should be reported since I highly doubt it was intended.
Was going up to do the Jump Puzzle in one of the borderlands when a full group of enemies jumped and face kitten me. I didn’t release so instead of sticking around to troll they covered me with siege weapons. They placed them on top of me so that nobody could see me.
Now when I’m solo who cares, but when I’m in a team fight and I need somebody to res me and they slam down a couple siege engines on top of me to troll my partner that’s going to cause a problem. In fact I fully expect/hope to see this being used just to prove my point. Who knows if it’s really a big issue or not but I don’t think it was intended.
@ Osicat
You’re getting some crazy numbers with that spec. I realise that you’re playing WvW and the scaling is different from PvP but I am curious about your build and gear. I look forward to seeing you post the build but what I’m really curious about is the gear and food because they’re obviously adding some substantial stat buffs to you.
Enjoyed watching you play thanks for being such an active member of the Mesmer community.
Playing mesmer in a nutshell: http://i.imgur.com/1gzBF.jpg
Baahhahahahha pure awesome.
Some of us actually think they’re on track to make the fixes they need to in order for the game to be a top pick for pvpers, but it takes time and money to get there. 10,000 people shouting they want bug fixes another 10,000 shouting they need balance, yet another 10,000 crying about pve quest text that was spelled incorrectly and how it has ruined their lives and they just can’t play GW2 any more because of the bad grammar.
No seriously all of the above are true.
Dev’s have disappeared for the holidays go figure they apparently like time with their family’s and like turkey dinners and presents just like the rest of us. They may even have some sort of patch they can throw at us when they get back to work and piece it together but I’m personally not holding my breath.
Tooltips were correct. I went back to do some testing tonight but oddly enough I am getting the bonus from my stats now.
I don’t know what caused me to not get the bonus on my boons earlier but they had a distinct discrepancy between their tooltip and how long they would last.
As of right now though they’re working just fine. Go figure.
I have 20 points in Chaos and when I put up any boon from … never mind it’s working now.
No idea why it wasn’t working earlier.
Shame I can’t see your hotkey usage or your health bar.
Suppose it doesn’t matter much though the people you were attacking are terrible.
Edit: Sorry that sounded negative upon rereading. It looks like a fun build for WvW I find it unlikely that it would work in the current PvP meta….
I’ll have to try it out though. It has been awhile since I’ve got a cloaking build for tourney’s
Hardly noticed a difference using it or against it. Apparently, there is an exploit with it, but I don’t know anything about that.
It’s the exploit that was kitten people off.
The exploit always existed though. It was how scaling worked with clones and mind wrack, they never put a cap on how many clones it could scale with. The issue was magnified by shattered strength though and became ridiculous. The top end of the scaling if people were glass cannon and stacking might had the clones exploding upwards of 4.6k each.
As much as I liked the extra damage and don’t want them to wreck the scaling there’s no way they can allow that sort of bursting to take place on a mesmer. They’ll leave that level of bursting to Ele’s and Thieves. Besides mesmer will eventually be very strong in a year or so once they’ve attended to the majority of the bugs.
What exactly is the point of filing a bug for something that is already being worked on?
Because the forums are treated like a department store and this thread is for the complaint department
Thought I’d give this thread a bump.
Mesmer boon duration is not currently affected by our Chaos trait line that gives +%
Haven’t done extensive testing but it’s very obvious that it’s not working properly
Anybody know if our chaos trait line that gives +% to boon duration is supposed to actually buff the boons off of Signet of Inspiration?
I mean I know the +% to boon duration doesn’t work for any of my other boons I just thought that maybe they would have made it so something in the boon department actually was effected.
The head designer obviously plays this class and is totally out of touch with reality, because I’ve never seen a class this insanely over the top in any game.
I’ve seen classes that can get away from just about anything.
I’ve seen classes run faster than anything.
I’ve seen classes 1-2 shot people.
Just never seen a class in a game that could do all of these at the same time, and a design team absolutely unwilling to address the fact that it’s this out of control. So lets all stop pretending this is a mistake or balancing issue when we all know exactly what’s going on here, blatant favoritism towards a guys preffered class.
Most players call the game Thief Wars you really gonna tank your own game pvp wise to keep your class on easy mode pvp.
100% agreed.
I’ve been saying this for weeks…
Thief is in the Top Tier of all the classes in basically every important aspect of the game:
- DPS/Burst: Easy First Place
- Movement: Easy Top-3, with Ele and Mesmer (cuz Portal rulez) on about the same level
- Survival/Sustain: Even as a glass cannon, he’s definitely wayyyy too hard to kill. Maybe not Top-3 in this Aspect, but in relation to how much DMG he does and how glassy his equip is, he’s by far the char with the best sustain to DPS-ratio.
- Teamfight: AoE-Poison-Field (+Weakness if traited and oooh boy is that an underrated trait), AoE-Stealth, Cantrips, Good AoE-DPS on Shortbow, Combo-Fields, Combo-finishers etc.
- Controlling alternative Points of interest: Can solokill Svanir/Chieftain, can kill Guild-Lord in record-time and on Kyhlo, he is basically the movement-king and by far the best roamer AND he’s easily able to snipe ppl on the Treb and kill the Treb pretty fast afterwards.
- His Combos have no downside either: Easy to land, short CD’s and no real drawback like Frenzy, being open to counterattacks etc. cuz you’ll go right back to being stealthed. There is almost no downside to the Thief if you play him as an offensive Roamer, that doesn’t need to guard points anyways, which might be one of the only aspects of the game where current Thief-builds fall short (there are decent defensive builds though, but they are not the big Issue here).
Lol at mesmer being top 3 because of portal. 1 time per 90 seconds does not equal good mobility.
I do agree with your comment about thief having basically no downside as an offensive roamer. They build for glass most of the time and can be killed with only minimal damage….. if you can hit them/find them/catch them good luck with that.
Personally I find thief is only an issue when they abuse their post stealth rendering, but then I noticed recently having played on a latency free connection that thief renders fairly quick, they just don’t have a name above their heads and can not be targeted unless you click on them. I can only guess that when they test this in-house thief seems normal.
What I’m saying is that I don’t see the issue with thief being amazingly strong in so many offensive areas because they are an offensive class. They may have a few bugs to work out still but I’d like to see the bugs worked out before they continue nerfing classes in order to balance them. Besides the only real mechanics I care to see get fixed are the stealth and the excessively large movement built into heartseeker.
Ahh you people and your terrible mantra builds. Keep trying, one day you’ll realise they just don’t compete vs other classes for bunker.
Mantra builds may give you random success in your typical sPvP match, to be truly fair regarding the builds’ usability you will have to run it in the environment it is intended for.
You want to run tournaments? Use it there. My guess is that your build is going to fall apart in a real match. One of the main strengths of a mesmer is the ability to adapt which Mantra’s allow BUT they have a major downside too and they’re frankly not nearly as good at bunkering as Ele’s, Guardians, Engi’s. The upside is that they have amazing team support so if you want to use this build in conjunction with a Condi necro/engi/ranger you can seriously kick was butt.
Remove Mantra’s altogether.
They’re still clunky and slow. In PvE there are better options
In PvP they are unusable in a serious match.
If you feel they are good. Please show me in a recorded paid tournament just what you are doing so that myself and others may learn. As it stands any player that chooses to use mantras is seriously nerfing themselves just to have a watered down effect with slightly better timing and atrocious cast times.
Buffing 1 with additional effects like swiftness does not solve the issues.
Adding a new skill in does not solve the issues.
Replacing one just for swiftness shows how little people even care for Mantra’s when they choose the strongest Mantra to be replaced….
I would really love to know how far off we are on a matchmaking / rank ladder system.
I have very little desire to play much PvE content, and I really did buy GW2 for the PvP.
The tournament free games seem to be 90% guild teams or if I’m really lucky I’ll just get a premade team to square off against. Sure I’ll admit I am talking about random joining with a team and no I don’t expect a whole lot from the others I am ultimately grouped with for the match, but as much as I like having my soul crushed every 2 out of 3 games I am getting really REALLY tired of it.
There any chance of an update on this or should I just forget about this feature for a couple of months?
I wonder how much whining and crying the dev’s actually put up with before they will actually start caving in to the demands of the bads that refuse to learn how to play.
I wonder at what point there becomes a demand for what people have been playing before their whining is listened to. There’s a definite need to separate WvW, PvE, tPvP, and sPvP when discussing game dynamics, and also separate what sort of build somebody was using. Glass cannons are ill equipped to deal with certain builds as are Bunkers.
Plus add in skill level to sPvP and WvW. Even when they have managed to put a rating system in place the hot join and open world game styles do not have any such controls and restrictions, and I have a hard time imagining them ever putting that in place for casual play.
What will they do… what will they do.
Na I’ve been dying all over the place when I’m invulnerable. Whether it has been distortion or blur or in mist form (was testing Vampirism runes) it doesn’t matter. If you have conditions on you already they still apply their effects. That includes confusion, so don’t think for a second you can pop some sort of invuln and dps somebody else down without consequences.
I have never tested this with Retal to see if boons bypass invuln. Dodge rolls still take damage from condi’s that have already been applied.
lol you wanna nerf the most underpowered and least represented class in the game?
good luck there.
That doesn’t mean that his claim is illegitimate.
I agree, we must have a ranged limit for pets, but a large one, something like ~2000 range and have visual contact with the ranger.
Pets already have a range limit, so I find it odd that you’re asking for this. The range if I remember correctly is currently 3000.
My guess is you’re referring to some hot join game where some smart kitten Ranger sat on the boat out of sight or behind a tree or something and took all beast skills/traits/power-ups and then lol’d as he sicked his pet on you. Highly HIGHLY amusing.
1 This is unlikely to ever be an issue in a serious tourney game
2 Lol at you for not just killing the pets when there’s obviously nobody else around that’s a greater threat (hint: pets that do massive damage tend to be short on health)
PS how about you let them fix the ranger class a bit before you start asking to punish them further for their class choice.
2.6k heal, roughly 450ish range I think.
2.6k heal… means your +healing is stacked
I don’t like getting burst down by a thief in less than 1 second either, but I really don’t think thief needs a damage nerf. I like there mechanics quite a bit in fact but feel they need some more options when changes come. The real problem I have with thief is that their ability to win through attrition is ridiculous. A thief can easily 1 v 10 in wvw fully expecting to never get killed through the use of their stealth. They pop out and burst somebody to death then hide and finish them, or start on the next person. There’s no way to prevent them from going back into stealth and killing again and again. I have died so many times to thieves in wvw that I have never even seen because they don’t render until I’m dead. Even when I know they’re near by there’s little to nothing I can do even with support/friends on chat.
In pvp where they have fewer places to run and hide while stealthed it’s not quite as bad but it still sucks as a mesmer. I don’t really have any aoe’s to deal with the thief and what I do have requires a target, I don’t even have a weapon I can swing around in the air in the hopes of hitting the thief like some classes do.
In short some aspect has to change but I don’t feel that thief damage needs a nerf.
2 two things about thief that I have an axe to grind are the stealth mechanics and ridiculous movement mechanics behind heartseeker, but if I had to choose one it would be to fix stealth and see how thief fares after that.
guardian
he said chilled back support when he wants definitely guardian.
Can’t wait for the dev’s to come back from their holiday and see the pile of work in front of them, and I feel sorry for the guy that decided to work over the holiday’s because it’s going to be completely thankless work quickly swept aside due to the extreme number of complaints piling up.
I am looking forward to seeing the solutions they need to put forward to fix the class I play.
bout time they did something about the mesmer portal bombing dumbness
if mesmers such as previous posters are still saying it is over powered though, mabey you guys should make it so only 5 ppl can go through the portal (and then make it a ranged casting circle to cast it as a balance)
Perfect size for small pvp maps. Oh wait… that’s the part of the community still complaining about it being OP.
Happened to me recently as well. Thought I’d wait a couple of minutes, didn’t matter. Logged out and back in, didn’t matter. Went and explored LA and went afk, took about an hour, I was able to make 1 comment then was suppressed again… wtf.
Watching this is so amusing. I even reported this as an issue myself before I understood it fully. This issue as you see it is part of the game mechanics for projectiles and really has very little impact unless it’s a slow moving projectile at nearly full range. As you get closer the velocity is too great to dodge the projectiles. THIS is why they increased the speed of projectiles on certain classes with the last patch because they rely on those projectiles too much and they were just slightly too easy to evade completely.
ANet is aware of this and it is a game mechanic. It does not affect pvp unless somebody is trying to shoot you from basically fully range. It’s also really only an issue for the autoattack shots because they have the slowest velocity. As a defender if all you’re doing is autoattacking and sitting on point hoping you can kill somebody assaulting then you’re bad. If you’re an assaulter autoattacking somebody sitting on point defending and you think you can get away with a no skill success guess what? your opponent simply has to walk change vectors to thwart you. JUST LIKE SHOOTING A MOVING TARGET IN REAL LIFE :O
At full range? i could not hit a target within 400 range with my icebow…… Ok autoatack is whatever but what about actual skills? that’s messed up in my opinion/ if i time and try to land skill perfectly and they miss within 400 range because the other person change the direction they were moving fast?
Thing is you’re not really a ranged class and the velocity on your ice bow is incredibly slow. Each projectile has it’s own speed, and as the velocity is higher for ranged classes on certain weapons it is FAR more difficult to negate their damage. Try it with a Ranger on shortbow which they just buffed velocity for.
Besides anybody that refuses to close the gap in pvp or to reposition themselves deserves to be unsuccessful vs a more skilled player. As per your video how many times have you seen an Ele or Guardian player sit up on a ledge and fire down their ranged autoattacks in tPvP? I would hazard the guess “never”. Because if you’re doing that you class isn’t effective any way. Not all classes will be effective for every situation with every skill.
Far too harsh of a nerf. They’ll be balanced once triple shatter gets fixed. That or add a 0.15sec GCD between shatters.
his point is not that they are OP, his idea is to make it so that a team doesn’t need a mesmer just for a portal. Having it as an elite might make you think twice about bring a mesmer, but I still think most teams will use them unless they lost time warp and their huge shatter they have atm.
Wrong again. As his title says it’s about making mesmer’s less mandatory by removing the utility that allows them to be in 2 places at once. The sad thing is that people only have to force a mesmer to use their portal and they generally don’t unless it’s a higher level of skilled players. Force a portal to get the mesmer out of the team fights, or do what smart people do. Load up the portal exit with ground targeted wells/traps/mines and be prepared to blow up the mesmer upon exit. You can see where the portal exit is why not be smart about it?
Your suggestion is more about removing mesmer’s team viability which is ridiculous just in the nature of the suggestion. “Make X class poor for team fights and team support because I haven’t learned how to play against them and I feel they add too much to team fights”
If you are truly wanting people to pick mesmer for some reason OTHER than back point holder then I suggest buffing another aspect of mesmer that allows them to play another role successfully instead of destroying the role they are currently capable of filling.
That’s awesome. Now I want a beard.
My opinion about balancing is that there is no balance between classes, everyone can tell you with ease what classes to play for pvp. You will never hear play engi if u want to own pvp or play ranger or guardian or necromancer. There are 3 classes that can pvp : warrior thief and messmer and this is how it’s been since beta with thief > all.
Speaking of opinions. I just wanted to say wtf are you talking about? Do you only play hot join games or something and die repeatedly vs glass cannons?
Guardians are amazing and hell if you learn to play one they’re even stronger at roaming than thieves are, plus they add far more to team synergy than most other classes through the use of boons.
Engi’s are equally amazing but really shine when they have at least 1 other teammate nearby. They’re tanky, have tons of boon up time, lots of healing very diverse and can eat anybody up with either direct damage/cc or conditions/cc. When paired with a guardian the 2 are nearly unstoppable.
Ranger and Necro again provide huge support for team fights, they may not do as well 1v1 but that’s because they’re generally build for team support and not dueling. If you want to talk about dueling though Rangers are deadly with a sword and deadly with a shortbow. Necro’s do better kiting and need to know their positioning in order to do well.
TL:DR You don’t know what you’re talking about. Get out of the hot join games that are saturated with glass cannons and join a team for a proper tourney.
