Still wouldn’t fix the problem of the torch phantasm not being very good. It can already (when traited) removal condi’s like Carighan said so why combine it with another cleanse?

I prefeer the scepter for clone generation with skill 1 and 2 even in shatter builds, because i can generate more clones. Just different playstyles, imho

No sorry. I did a build based on CLONES DEATH (no shatter, they must be killed or replaced). I need quantity, not quality.

P.S. What is the difference between Scepter and Staff clones?

P.P.S. this attachment can be nice for the annoying clone generation?

The difference is that staff clones cast winds if chaos (your staff auto attack) which applies boons and conditons on bounce. Where as the scepter clones just cast ether bolt (damage).

On another note any news on the scepter auto yet? What are you all leaning towards as a mechanic? Support/interrupt or more power/condition based?

The base heal for the trait is 1226 for 3 illusions and that can be boosted by illusionary persona. I wouldn’t shatter just for a 1226 heal, just not worth it especially in a grand master tier. This all depends on your healing power however.

It would be great to hear you guy’s perspective of the current state of support builds in all area’s of the game (pve open-world and dungeons, wvw and spvp). Also love the idea of hosting a build in each podcast, would be great to hear different builds in the meantime of the botm contest being put on hold

I think we have a pretty good understanding of the mesmer scepter auto attack problem. I would really like to design a chain of auto attacks here that end with something good, and then allow the clones generated from scepter to also do that thing. That being said, we are trying to avoid just condition spam overload with that weapon because that would be greatly compounded by clones spamming as well.

What if it were a bouncing damage/heal? It would be a maybe 2-3 bouncer, like their other bounce attacks, that damages enemies and heals allies. The balance point would be that one Mesmer would generate negligible heals, but a Mesmer and three clones could deal decent healing to players near the target, especially if they geared for it. That could make for a solid Mesmer healer build.

I like where this is going, maybe not in this application/direct way but this could bring mesmers some more great support abilities that opens some new builds up or increases the effectiveness of the limited ones we have now.

This isn’t true, you get both worlds but not the best of them. You will never be reaching the full potential of either damage or condtions on a hybrid because like Alissah said you can’t get a stat combo with those specific stats. So really you get both worlds but not to their full ability.

With that being said if that set-up is what you like, that’s not for others to decide. They are entitled to their own opinion and so are you, just be careful how you word your argument.

Anyhow there will be absolutely NO unnecessary bullying in this contest or anything else in the Mesmer forums. Pvp: condi/ support (mixed style)
Wvw: on the odd chance ( rarer than a solar ecilipse) im in wvw, shatter. :p

Mesmer is viable because of the fact we are so versatile and can fill in the gaps especially in solo que matchs. We are like the icing on the cake and the gap filler at the same time. We can 1v1 well, good praticed mesmers can survive and we are a mobile class (blink decoy etc )

Being honest with you, if you come up against decent players a 3v10 is not going your way. Just won’t happen, best case scenario is you can harass for a while with all your stealth’s. But a group of 10 decent players might mean a small hit squad like judge and in that case your going to die, because they rez faster than you can kill.

I like it, maybe we could do a different event each week just to mix it up? We could even guest to eredon hotm for some tournaments using the teams from this thread as a base plate for everyone else.
I won’t be able to make it because it will be a Monday where i am, but I’ll make sure to catch up with what went down .

Do you plan to do an ele one or no? Because I’ve never really played ele and I’m keen to see one in a tpvp situation.

Okay a few things
This is for the spvp version because I can’t even remember the last time I stepped in wvw.
If the purpose of the spvp build is dueling, keep blink but my recommendation would be too take disenchanter over it in tpvp, because you aren’t shattering (obvious because you have illusionary defence) and blink is only good for running or repositioning, which you have decoy for anyway (I would advise you take that out but you have pu so don’t worry). Sure it provides a quick target loss for the enemy but ultimately it is used for running and if you have decoy it’s just not needed. Take an extra condi cleanse or if you are feeling that conditions aren’t a problem then portal, null field or even defender would be a better option.

Secondly (sorry for the wall of text) I would just like to warn you that in tpvp all those stealths will decap the point, just something to be aware of.

Yeah, you really have to stop the moa going off in the first place in these situations. After that it gets difficult especially if that daze happens. Youtube the moa morph ability and then use your dazes/stuns/evades/stealth/blocks (every class will have most of these available).

Moa is a really visible skill with a purple aura kind of eminating from the mesmer. You from there can dodge, block with scepter #2 and sword #4 or blurred frenzy/distortion/daze on pistol and shatter. However this all changes if the mesmer is in stealth when he casts moa, I have no tips from there on other than stealth as well or give a really amazingly timed dodge.

Fully agree. The in combat slow down is annoying and we could do without it.

I had an idea that instead of just one person being able to maintain a thread, multiple people could.
The original poster could post the thread and then from there add/deduct people from a vip list which would allow them to edit and maintain a thread as well.
This would make maintaining important community threads like meeting places and events easy and more effective as not just one person has to constantly look back and update the thread.

If im not using blink im usino decoy just because I find it important to have a stun break for the odd stun warrior or just to relieve some pressure off me.
That being said I like decoy over blink but thats just preference.

Well if thats the case then you are better off with something else. Arcane thievery only get rid of 3 condi’s, your much better off with a more reliable source of negating conditions. IMO null field is a personal favorite. It does its job of clearing my condi’s (pretty much all of them) and stripes the boons off melee classes coming after me.
Plus it’s on a much shorter cooldown.

Yeah stuns hurt, but the important thing is to adapt and survive. Ultimately stuns will be phased out because people will learn how to combat them. Its just a matter of time.

If you have played mesmer for a while then it is really easy to spot the gap closer it is very visible. The blurred frenzy is annoying but it is quick and like hexxen said it is an evade now not an invul which means conditions still hit. So ranged weapons should be able to easily beat the main hand sword depending on the build of corse because of the fact the sword is melee and the gap closer has a limited range (well it wont catch a gs at full range but it might for scepter)

Corrupt Interrupt Mesmer (updated for april patch)

This build here is the second corrupt build which is the interrupt/cc build. If you are going to try this out be warned this one is a lot harder to play and get used to compared to my other corrupt build. However if you are patient you will get it.

Purpose and Playstyle
-It involves a focus because the more pressure you put on point or the less time your enemy spends on it will mean the more time you have to cap it. Warden gives high damage in small area and keeps me and allies safe from projectiles as well.
-Keep sword for the evade, your going to need it.
-Another aspect of this build is you high condi uptime with staff. Condi duration has replaced healing power due to healing power being a weak stat compared to condi duration.(50% condi duration)
- Shatters and also interrupt traits are a major part of this build for damage and support.
-In a zerg infested hot-join match your chaos storm is insane.
-Use your focus pull on a large group of enemy’s to disorientate them.

Gear and Traits

30 Domination
Crippling dissipation for the cc it provides, as you may find in large fights clones can can killed before a daze or mind wrack shatter can be let off and this trait allows it not to go unpunished . Confounding to spice things up and add that little extra reward for dazing, also makes it much easier to fight and target a stunned player. Mental torment/halting strike both work in this slot to add more damage to the fight. The traits in this line either way synergize extremely well with each other.

20 Dueling
Mantra Mastery for more rapid dazes and DE for clone generation.

10 Inspiration
Shatter for vigor is always good for clone generation, which in turn is used for fueling all your shatter skills (i.e daze for interrupts). However phantasm health and glamour cooldown both work here as well.

10 Illusions
Blind at glamour locations is awesome for your nullfields in large fights and portals for quick getaways/re-positioning.

Pvp: Runes are mixed for condi uptime, 6 nightmare. Amulet is Berserkers for power on your interrupts and shatters. Sigils are bloodlust, hydromancy, agony and venom.

Focus: Pull for interrupts and getting people off the point. Warden for reflection of projectiles.
Staff:Chaos storm is amazing for interrupts and conditions.
Sword: Evade is great and for closing the gap for a daze/shatter (long immob time).

These are two hot-join and tpvp builds which are very unique in their abilities, have a browse through it. The Corrupt Builds have undergone major changes, take a look!

Corrupt Support Build (updated for april patch)
The focus of this build is a condi/support build for tpvp (organized and solo) as well as hot-join. The basic concept is high condition spread and damage, coupled with high boon duration for your team support.

20 Dueling
Mantra Mastery to get your mantra’s up more frequently, giving more healing and condi removal on you thanks to menders purity.
Deceptive Evasion for clone up-time as this build needs them to spread condi’s.

30 Chaos
Debilitating Dissipation for aoe condi’s, self explanatory.
Choatic Dampening there so staff skills recharge faster, handy for chaos storm and so on. But a minor trait here is really important. Illusionary Membrane grants 3s of stability every 15s if I have regeneration which I will because of Phantasmal Healing (Inspiration minor trait) or staff skills ect. You can swap in signet of inspiration to shared with allies as well making it really handy. A further 10 into this traitline will get you chaotic dampening, using your chaos storm and daze shatter will get you far here.

20 Inspiration
Mender’s Purity for the condi removal, works well with mantra heal.
Lastly Restorative Mantra’s for the healing of my allies, just another support aspect of this build.

(Just like to point out here that taking 10 out of chaos and placing it into dom for aoe cripple on clone death also works extremely well, I just like utilizing my daze shatter and chaos storm in large fights in pvp)

Play-style and Purpose
-This build is a great aoe condition spread. Staff and clone death work well, with mantra’s, high boon uptime, condi removal being the support aspect. Currently mid point with a large crowd works the best. More people gaining from your support and more enemy’s loving the conditions.
-Keep your illusions up, they are a big part of this builds offensive, staff clones can also apply conditions so use them wisely. Phantasms apply regen so use them too.
-Mantra’s are good with stealth to recharge them so torch works well.
-Keeping in mind that stealth will de-cap the point so make sure your with someone else or using the stealth tactically.
-Etheral fields work a treat for chaos armor on your team. Use chaos storm then torch #4 in a large fight for mass chaos armor.
-In hot join use mantra of concentration for easy stomping for you and your team mates.

Gear
PVP
For pvp however use a rabid amulet for toughness and condition damage. Also a mixture of runes for healing and boon duration, 6 water. These are flexible however because their are so many great combo’s of boon duration runes.

Weapons
-I chose staff for the support and conditions, great for the purpose of this build. I have found scepter works great if you feel you want some more condi out of the build. -Torch for aoe condi on the Prestige and stealth for recharging mantra’s.
-Sigils are loose, I chose a corruption sigil so the build could have a nice round 1000 condi damage number.
-Energy on torch and Battle for might (always handy).
-Swap torch for focus for more out of your chaotic dampening.
