As you can see, the Lightning Storm instead displays the number of impacts it will perform as opposed to the targets it can hit.
Does anyone also know how often the FireStorm will hit a target? Every second, I presume?
Sorry for the Q’s.
So, I just started playing with an Elementalist, and I had enough trouble wrapping my head around the way Burn differs from Bleeding when stacking.
I’ve noticed something which I don’t quite understand, it’s probably me being stupid, but could someone help?
The way the Firestorm’s description reads confuses me. What does it mean by “Number of targets”? Is that the maximum amount of people that the Storm can aim at, and therefore damage? If so, are the targets selected every second, or upon casting of the Storm?
If anyone’s feeling typy, can someone give me a long winded explanation of the Storm abilities? I understand Lightning, and Water; respectively, one hits randomly 32 times, and the other hits 18 times, though with the added benefit of Chilling the opponent.
See how some of the numbers are highlighted blue? It’s probably me being a kitten , but I was just wondering.
I have got the trait which improves my pistol damage by 10%, is it that?
Ready up!
So tonight may well become a very very interesting/important stream for many players.
I am wondering about what are we to expect from the balance team, since the last stream was only about the reward system and trivial things this stream will have to adress major issues across many professions. What are your expectations for tonight?
I’ve no idea what you’re talking about, but since I play this a lot I guess I should watch anything related to balancing/changes. Where do we watch the stream and at what time, sorry?
Regardless of what my other characters’ disciplines are, I always base my disciplines on what profession I’m playing; Thief has Leatherworker and Huntsman as those are the disciplines that he can make use of. I’ll level miscellaneous disciplines on whatever turns out to become my main character.
I’ve noticed a little glitch, or something, which causes me not to be able to sell items right away. I’ll click on an item, and the sell button wont respond until I try it a few more times. I’m sure it’s related to updating prices or something, but if it could be fixed that’d be nice, thought it’s only a minor thing.
So, I heard about this and looked up a guide. Apparently I’m supposed to open my GW2 Music folder..I don’t have one =/
Not the GW2 folder in program files, but the one in My documents. An easy way to know where is to find any screenshot, since screenshots are saved in a folder next to the Music folder.
If I just make a folder called Music will that substitute? I doubt it..
Don’t doubt it, if there is none, create it yourself and it’ll work.
Well, I’ve got a folder called “Screens”, which houses all of my screenshots, but there’re no folders other than that it my GW2 Documents folder.
I hope it works, ‘coz it’d suck to lose out on something like this. It’s late, so I’ll try it tomorrow and post feedback.
Thanks to both of you =)

I haven’t deleted one, but even when I search my whole computer there’s nothing. I still have music in the game, but I don’t know where it’s located file-wise.
If I just make a folder called Music will that substitute? I doubt it..
So there’s a vendor in Lions Arch who trades Laurels for certain rewards.
For one Laurel, you can get a lot of items. One of these items is a bag which includes tier 1 crafting items. Another, is a bag which contains tier 6 crafting items…Why would anyone purchase the lower tier bag? I just spent money trying to see if there were some reason, and I guess you get more quantity from the lower tier bags, but this is far outweighed by the quality and value of the higher tier’s contents.
But forget those, because for 5 Laurels you can buy 10 unidentified dyes, which tot’ up to 2.5 Gold at least on the Trading Post. So, just by dyes, sell them, use the money to buy what you want as oppose to gambling by buying the bag, and then pocket the money you save.
I know it’s the economy’s fault, but kitten is it detrimental, from what I’ve seen, to not do it like this.
Thoughts?
Hello, Chris.
Either I know you and have forgot, or you’re cool enough to know something that my other friends do not
In other news, thanks to the answers =) I always seem to get awesome feedback on whatever I need, which is nice.
Haha, look at your screenshot – it gives your root directory which has your first name after users. I always like doing that to people. It makes them go “wtfpsychic?” x3
Rofl, Kurisu is the Japanese pronunciation of Chris, so I assumed you just knew a little Japanese :P Not so impressed now
Thanks, guys =)
I’d say just enjoy the game as it is, and forget, at least for now, the deeper systems in the game. That’s what I did anyway, and after about 10 days of playing it, I’m starting to polish off my knowledge of all the little aspects of the game.
This is just me, but personally I found it more fun to start off on my own than with friends. My friends wanted to pull me this way and that and tried to control my game experience. Just go off on your own, and learn to enjoy yourself =)
On the other hand, you might strive socially, so whatever makes you happy. Welcome to GW2, I’ve only had it for 10 days, but I can tell you you made a great choice

I see where this going – Nerf choking gas !
Gotta do what you gotta do :P
Sorry for all the recent posts, but I’m trying to go over the things I don’t fully understand.
So, why is it that some items soulbind and others don’t? I just got some shoulder pads which were similar to my own, only stronger by 5-6%. My older, slightly weaker shoulders didn’t need soulbinding, yet these new ones did. The new ones were masterwork, and the others weren’t, so this could explain it.
Is it random, or is it more likely if it’s a high quality item or such?
Thanks for all the…different answers :P I’ll do some calc’s of my own later and see what I find.
I understand what it means, but if I’m selling at a certain price, and take away the listing cost, why doesn’t the figure match the projected profits’ figure?
Sometimes it does, other times it’s way off, more inaccurate at higher prices.
The field pulses 5 second poison every second. Additionally, any projectile finishers fired through the field will poison.
If I shoot 2 fields, and the enemy’s standing in both, will they gain 10 seconds extra for each second they’re in there, or just 5. I’m trying to test it now to work it out, but it’s hard to tell =/ I imagine so, but I’d like other’s input..
AH! Never mind. The poison’s duration actually stacks for each second the enemy’s in the poison field, which is really cool.
Since Wurms usually take a while to move, I guess the poison’s got enough time to stack enough to kill.
I’ll leave this here in case anyone else was wondering.
Attached is a screenshot of a skill. I recently starting using a bow since mine increasing my power by 5 for each kill I get with it, up to a limit.
Anyway, it says the skill’s poison lasts for 5 seconds, however I shot some Wurms with it, to get my power up quickly, and I counted the poison hit 19 times, it may have lasted longer, but by hit 19 the Wurms were dead. Not necessarily 19 seconds, but it was definitely more than 5 seconds. The Wurms didn’t hang around in the poison field either, and there’s no way that my condition duration bonus is that high, especially since I just reset my traits.
Anyone know why it lingers so long?
When your stats in your hero panel are Green this mean that they have been modified by something. It can me numerous things like scale down, scale up in specific zone, boons, buff, nourishment, skills etc. This can come from you, a nearby ally or from your environment.
In your case its your Assassin’s Signet. The passive effect of that signet increase your power by this formulat : 2 x (10 + level). For you it mean that it incease your power by 2 x (10 + 38) = 96 power. The number : ‘’Inceases Attack 447’’ mean that without any modification your base power is 447. If you add up your base power and the buff you gain from your signet : 447 + 96 = 543 Power and this number is shown in green since its not your base power. If you change your Asssassin’s Signet with something else you should see 447 and if you put your mouse over it then you should also see ’’Increase Attack 447, because your base power is the same as your effective current power.
Thanks very much =) I thought if it were the base power, then it’d be displayed someway else, but it makes total sense now.
So I’m fairly new, and I’ve picked up a lot of what stuff means, so far..These numbers still confuse me though =/
I understand I’ve got 543 Power, which influences my Attack which is 836, which influences damage, but what’s the number “Increases Attack 447” mean? Is that by how much my Power’s improving my Attack?
Any other tips and stuff will be read, and much appreciated. Thanks =)
Plus, don’t the levels only go to 75?
But it says 25 for Artificer, though I’ve not even started it.
It means two stacks of bleeding are applied. Condition damage is a function of your condition damage modifier and so is not tied directly to the skill. With your character at this level you do 5 damage per bleed stack per second.
For example, my character right now (level 80) shows Caltrops with the same icon, 2 stacks, 3 seconds, 667 damage. And the D/D Deathblossom is 3 stacks, 10 seconds, 3333 damage. In both cases it comes to 111 damage per stack per second.
So why two stacks as oppose to one stack, but twice as stong? Is it to do with the condition system? E.G. It’s more effective to have multiple weaker stacks so then enemies find it harder to remove?
Btw, that’s pretty sweet damage, can’t wait till I get there
And thanks.
So, could someone explain to me what the number over the Bleed icon means? I understand that if someone stands on a caltrop, then they suffer Bleed damage of 30 for over 3 seconds. Is this two stacks of that at once? So would they suffer for 30 over 3 seconds x 2? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just like to be sure of everything =/
If that is the case, then why make it 30 × 2? Why not just 60?
Also, does anyone know how often/when the caltrops take effect? Is it when the enemy stands on one of the visual caltrops, or is it step based or something?
Lots of, possibly stupid, questions, but thanks to anyone who reads/helps =)
It really adds up @ level 80 when you increase Condition Damage to where each stack ticks for >125 HP each second and bleed duration to +100%: 5 * 125 * 8 = 5k
There is a build, or family of builds, that focuses on killing primarily with these bleeds.
I’ve got 3 skills now that cause bleeding, and at level 16 the damage I can output per second with just bleeding is 220, which is pretty sweet as it is, but holy hell that build sounds awesome =) Hopefully it’s not one that people complain about being OP though..
I’ve only started playing 3 days ago, and I like the Thief, not for the Stealth, but for the faster combo’s they can get going along with their Condition inducing movepool.
Im new but i’m pretty sure its stacks of bleed.
I guessed that it was..But does that mean it’s 5 stacks of bleed, which each do 5 per second for 4 seconds?
Edit: I just tested it against an equal level, and ^that’s^ exactly what it is..Thanks =)
(edited by WolfiKurisu.6894)
So, this shot shows one of my skills. I understand it bleeds for 4 seconds, but what does the 5 inside the skill’s thumbnail mean?
Could someone explain the calculation for me, please?
Temporary data. It’s best to back up the gw2.dat file (the Guild Wars 2 folder even better), the huge file if you don’t have extensions being displayed, so if you have a problem you can recover to the last time the game worked and attempt to patch again if that’s your problem.
Thanks. I just got a new computer, and the HDD isn’t huge. I was just wondering if the game’d take up more data space than just it’s installation requirements. Thanks, again =)
So, I’ve just started patching, from fresh, and there’s a lot to do. It may be a stupid question, but is the data from the patches saved and taking up memory on my computer, or is all the data temporarily used to make changes to the way my game plays?
Oh yeah, of course. The computer comes all in one, the only things I’m changing are the GPU, and consequently the PSU. I’ve seen and heard many things about SSD’s; all positive. I think I might invest in one of those once I start getting work again, since I’d like to get a 120GB if I could, as there are a lot of things I’d want to put on it.
Thanks for the tips and the concern, you’ve been a great help =)
Alright, so I’ve got 4 Gigs of 1333mhz Ram, which I’ll be getting more of soon, a 1TB Sata drive, I’m not massively sure about the Motherboard, but since I know it supports PCI e16, I’m gonna get a Radeon 7770 Sapphire GhZ OC edition. I guess the Mobo could have a negative impact, but I’m pretty sure the GPU overpowers the CPU.
I think that’s all that matters. The PSU was built just to be able to run the computer, so I’ll need to upgrade that, and I’ll be getting a CX430 for that =)
It’s my Birthday anyway, in 20 or so days (14th January), so I was planning on upgrading the CPU since I thought it was terrible, but I guess I could get a couple of Guild Wars Steel Series peripherals now
If anything does make a difference, please let me know =)
Oh, really? Thanks very much for the good news.
I assumed that it was just a budget i5, which I guess it still is, but at least it’s half decent =) I didn’t see too many difference which I’d think would make it better; I’m fairly new to learning about computer specs and stuff, so I was really just focused on the negative of the lower clock speed.
It’s coming tomorrow afternoon. Thanks a lot, you’ve genuinely made my day =)
I think I made a slight mistake; the computer I wanted was out of stock, and they weren’t getting any more for 3 weeks. On top of that, it’s another (up to) 14 days delivery.
I was gonna get the, and I know it’s not magnificent, i5 2310. I settled for a similar computer, with the only difference the CPU, which was a i5 3330S.
So, it’s a 2.9 GhZ vs 2.7 GhZ.
Is it going to make a huge difference? They’re both Quad Core, so..
Yeah, I know neither of them are great, and I’m not expecting huge results, either.
Thanks.
I just Google’d it, and I see. Thanks very much, friend =)
Your GPU link doesn’t bring me to a specific card, but as long as there’s enough space it should be fine. Grab a CX430 with the card and you’ll be good to go.
Oh, did it not? Sorry. It’s a Sapphire Radeon 7770 GhZ OC. Pretty similar to yours, by the looks of it.
What’s a CX430 and why would I need one, sorry? Is it a PSU?
So, it’s Christmas, and I got enough money for a semi decent PC. I don’t care too much for bottlenecking, I’d just like to know, if I upgraded the PSU, if I could use the following graphics card with the following computer.
So, here’s the computer http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/018481.htm
And the GPU is http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1159&lid=1&pid=1745&leg=0
From what I’ve read, the computer supports PCI e 16, or something, (I’m not too tech savvy) so it looks like it’ll support it. However, since this is kind of a big cash injection, I’d just like to be sure it’d work.
Also, since the GPU’s overclocked out of the box, do you think I’d need any other fans or stuff? Like I said, I’ll be upgrading the PSU anyway, so extra fans and stuff wont be too much of a problem.
The base computer, the computer linked, has a 230 v PSU, so I assume upgrading’s completely necessary.
Thanks to anyone who helps, and could you include any tips or other info that you guys think I’d need? Thanks, guys.
Edit: I know this website’s not really dedicated to this stuff but, from all the sites I’ve been on, this seems to be the best site to get fast, and reliable replies.
Over time my patches have taken around a total of 3-4 hours. My download speeds 21 mbps, though it was pretty slow downloading. Why not just download as much as you can? Cut off the patcher when you’ve reached the point where you can’t/don’t want to download anymore.
From what I’ve heard, AMD CPU’s aren’t that great with this game. If it is a CPU problem, then the graphics wont make much of a difference.
I don’t know how to fix it, but I know how to identify the problem. Go into the game, and then change the graphics settings about. If there’s not much difference, then it’s your CPU. If there’s a huge difference, then it’s your GPU.
I’d wager it’s your CPU though, since your GPU’s not that bad, and shouldn’t have that much trouble on Low settings.
Thanks to all 3 of you. Very detailed answers each explaining different points to me.
Special thanks to you, Nova. You answered my questions last time, too =) Thanks!
So, I was told to get an i5 processor a long time ago for this game. I didn’t fully understand processors back then, and I don’t now, but I understand a lot more.
If an i3 processor has Hyperthreading, and an i5 doesn’t, then what advantage would an i5 Quad have over a Hyperthreaded i3 Dual core of the same core speed? Are 4 physical cores better than 2 threaded cores (Theoretically 4)?
Also, I was told this game wouldn’t run great on an AMD CPU due to this game optimising one core, and the AMD cores being generally worse 1 for 1 than the Intel CPU’s’ cores. Is this true? If so, wouldn’t a i3 run this better than an i5 if the core speed was better? Does this apply for everything else, too?
Can someone give me a brief explanation to how Hyperthreaded cores apply to others, and which CPU’s would best run the game, along with others?
Thanks so much for whoever’s got the patience.
Alright, thanks. I was just aiming for Medium settings, I’m not really expecting great things from my rig, just want something that’s better than what I’ve got, and might aswell see if it can play games, eh?
I’ll go for the i5, just because it seems so much better. Dunno if I’ll be using WvW too much, but whatever.
Thanks again =)
Alright then, and an i5 would allow me to run it on? (Assuming I kept all other parts, bar mobo, the same)
Sounds like it might be an internet speed problem if you lowered your settings from High to Low, and there still wasn’t a difference.
‘Run’ ..yes .. ‘play’ …thats aruguable.
if ur interested in WvW or large dynamic events ..then no.
if u just want to PvE ..like doing quests and the odd dungeon. then ‘yes’.
So what part(s) of the build’s the problem?
