It is my opinion that Guild Wars 2 contains a considerable adult audience that demands mature content. If Guild Wars 2 cannot provide it; that audience will disappear. What is arguable is the size of this demographic.
Define “mature” content. I hope you’re not thinking doom and gloom is mature.
Personally I want fun, diverse and bug free content. There are enough risen and elder dragons, enough refuges and problems. I like these short term fun events, they mix it up.
Why dont the SAB fanboys understand everyone’s idea of fun is not the same? Intrinsically I find it more fun to play Zelda 64 currently than SAB.
Then go play Zelda.
Why do people act like every addition to the game must please everybody? It never will. I think SAB is funny. Will I spend hours in there for the skins? No. Hell no. Its a great April fools day event. And, it is NOT the April patch. So I don’t understand all the whining about it.
I did read it as an attempt to wowify GW2 by “opening our minds” to mounts, added levels and other nonsense. Apparently opposing that is not good in his mind because …
Honestly, why should you care if others want to ride around on a pony? Personally, I’ll continue to use the waypoints because they’re faster. I’m not going to bash others for wanting mounts, or capes, or player housing, or whatever they want.
In the end its Arena Net’s game. They will decide was is good or bad for their game, for their artistic vision of what an MMO should be.
April fools joke’s on me then ahhah.. I didn’t expect that at all
Combat is fun. I actually run into random mobs to stabby stabby them on my thief. In other MMOs, trash mobs were just a barrier to loot.
Lost Shores, even though the large scale fight was horribly laggy… it had the best loot by far.
I think this is the biggest issue with traditional MMO players. They measure fun by reward, instead of fun for actually doing.
This video, about intrinsic and extrinsic rewards is spot on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h86g-XgUCA8

ISPs in china inject adds into HTML files you download. So no, its not as bad as China. I don’t miss the GFW.. I do miss the food though.. man they know how to cook.. pretty much anything >_>
Just curious if anyone else is quoted on this board and has their name turn to kitten.
Curious, just curious. That is so funny hahahah…
Features are too basic and not enough people know about it anyway. I find that website, gw2lfg is much better.
The fact you can party with anyone on any server (and join the same instance) is gold.
This 8 bit fiasco in the making is my favorite so far, followed by the Halloween event. The Karka event could have been great, but PvE culling killed it.
The WvW queue and PvE culling tell me the game is going strong. I doubt the game can “die”. Without sub fees people will come and go. That gem store is profitable for sure.
Personally I’ll take a little break for bioshock infinite. I know everything will still be here when I get back and unlike in other games, I won’t loose a raid spot or be behind the gear treadmill hehe
Did you guys really read the OP’s post before posting yourselves? Just because he mentioned wow doesn’t mean he’s trying to “WoWify” gw2, or whatever the heck that should mean.
There is a very vocal minority that resent any change but those they wish to see. Add something fun and tom kitten and harry will whine about something else claiming the dev team are wasting there time (because they aren’t doing what he want them to do.)
News flash: its not your game. It belongs to Arena Net. So lets see where they take it.
Well age clearly is a factor here. As the the superbox commercial and 8bit in general is homage to some gamers childhood and growing up. Sometime I didn’t grow up with and do not understand or enjoy in any particular way. I do not relate to it in anyway 1 because of my age and 2 because of my interests. So age kinda is a factor.
Essentially, following your logic, you’re saying I need to be over three hundred years old to appreciate Shakespeare?
GW2 was never marketed as a hardcore MMO, or a dark game full of tragedy for that matter. They talked about horizontal progression and removing competition more than anything else. Review all the pre-launch videos, trailers and interviews.. They are still there for all to see.
I like this event, its amusing. Its funny. It’s also easy content they can add while fixing WvW and working on sPvP being viable. Arenanet isn’t a one employee company, they can (and should) work on more than one thing at a time.
I don’t understand today’s “gamers”. This is a game, a diversion; its not a career. Playing isn’t your job, nor does it define you in any way. They are designing this game, its their project, their vision, not ours. How entitled the gaming community got is unbelievable. (Not all my rant is about this sole thread, but this forum in general).
I ran around Queensdale to finish off my daily. I’m level 80 in full exotics. No problems. I’m no longer one shotting things, now they take 2-3 fireballs before going up in smoke which is an improvement. At least now I’m not afraid to ruin the experience for leveling characters anymore. And yes, I go back often for the daily, easiest source of mob diversity.
Oh wow, this would be awesome! Especially the idea about removing drop loot. That would make the battles less of a frenzy free for all grab and more about the objectives.
Sounds like the same bug that was reported with the mithril nodes
Same thing happened to me on my elementalist in southsun cove. I had no gathering buff whatsoever. I mined one of many mithril nodes on the map and then they all vanished. This also happened to me in cursed shore once. They never respawned until the server reset. I’ll keep my eye on the southsun ones to see if they ever come back.
I’ve also run that DE chain a lot (read 4+ hours straight) for exp and crafting materials from the bags. People only report you for botting if your both walking the exact same path all the time. Multiboxers get flagged for botting this way.
Transfer to Ehmry Bay then, because since the change no pickup group every clears it completely anymore.
So.. since the nerf to the temple of Grenth, the one where Jonez takes a 15 minute nap after a failed attempt, the temple of grenth never gets completed. There are two issues here. First people will not wait around 15 minutes for him to wake up. Second, when he does wake up he charges out to his death without player intervention. So by the time people learn that the event has started, the event fails before they can reach it (its not the easiest place to get to quickly).

Not because the loot isn’t good enough anymore, but because its kitten inconvenient and sets you up to fail.
Just did the temple of grenth event, got 5 yellows from the trash mobs (and trash from the chest). My friend running it with me was also fortunate with the yellow drops.

The rest of the post still stands. Should they implement restoration for accounts and guilds? Absolutely. Will jumping up and down make it happen faster? Nope.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and don’t use the guild bank for valuables.

On the Facebook page they said the script is running and to have patience. There are many to get to, so give it time! Pretend Santa is on his sleigh, but has not made it to your chimney yet.
I’m sure everyone who was there will get one. Even some who weren’t there >_>
Actually, I myself did not participate in the final event, I opted for a family dinner, movie and quiet time instead. I logged in this evening and I have a letter from the customer support team with an ancient Karka chest in it.. o_O
I hate to report these kinds of bugs… but.. well.. here it is -_-
Rubbers, if ANets intentions were to sweep this under the rug they would not have replied to any of the threads. Right now this thread is in the dev tracker thus giving it more exposure.
I also doubt very much they will share details on what they are doing on their end… it would give cues to the hackers.
Nice! That’s very good news.
If they have access to your machine they can log your keystrokes anyway? Please don’t write things as fact when you haven’t thought them through!
They don’t need to. If you enabled auto-login all your information is stored in your profile. It’s not plain-text but that’s not the best defense anyway.
Why would they have access to your cdkey? Why would it be stored considering it is only used to create your account?
I never said it was. I sure did say it better not be though. Some people store that stuff in text files in their game directories (I know I used to). That’s also a bad practice in this case.
Anyone who uses auto-login, for the game or anywhere on the web, is begging to be hacked.
yeah……. i’d just like to kindly ask you to take that notion and stow it.
Yes because storing your username and password in a file on your pc is a smart move. Do you have your safe’s combination on a post-it next to the keypad too?
I know its easier for everyone to blame anet for their security issues. But there some simple safe practices everyone should follow. Namely:
*Not using the same email and password everywhere.
*Not storing your password on your pc (this includes browser cookies and auto-logins).
*Avoiding public forums and internet explorer on your main PC (there is another jpg vulnerability out there, google it). I personally use a VM for browsing / downloading.
*Don’t put your toon names in your SIG on forums (don’t use the same pw on that forum too)
Considering GW2 can also remember your credit card details for gem purchases (profile or server, I don’t know).. being security aware is rather important!
Now.. where are the final versions of them authenticators?
(edited by Xia.3485)
You actually bring up a good point. But it’s not PC I’d be worried about. Using a compromised machine requires that it be on. I think something else people may be over looking is their router. If your system is compromised, it would take no time at all to set up a VPN on your router. Most people shut down a PC when they are done using it, they wouldn’t unplug their router. Making sure that your routers security is good would be important as well. Don’t use a default password for logging in and such.
Once they have access to your file system, they can grab your game settings (which includes your auto-login) and your email client files and your browser cookies. With those they have access to your login information and your emails. Possibly your serial code for GW2 too (too lazy to check). All they need is to wait for your machine to be on to use it like a proxy to swindle your account.
Anyone who uses auto-login, for the game or anywhere on the web, is begging to be hacked.
You don’t need to be an IT pro to do it either. Just install the game and copy over the other guys settings. Or install the same email client and copy over the other guys details. etc etc.
Seriously A-Net, disable the auto-login option. Make sure the password is never stored on the machine. Make sure the serial number isn’t stored on the machine either (don’t know if it is, but it better not be). There should also be an authenticator service in the form of an iOS and droid app as well as a stand alone device you can sell. IP address detection is a good step, but its far from being enough.
Color me deranged, but something is fishy about loot. I got an exotic from the the temple of Grenth event. Not from the chest or the champion, but from a trash mob. I filled my bags with blues and greens, got lots of collectibles and four rares I salvaged into ectos. Meanwhile a friend of mine, running in my group and with full magic find gear like I, got hardly anything at all. He never gets anything actually. Its not diminishing returns since our play time and patterns are almost identical. Why is he cursed?
I’m also disappointed that trash mobs are more profitable than taking the time to down stronger foes, like champions. The chests should be guaranteed to drop rares or better, and T6 crafting matts. Make them loot-able daily if need be (like the Halloween chests were after the patch). Because right now, any event that spawns hordes of mobs is worth doing, but the final bosses aren’t. (unless your compulsive obsessive hoping to win the lottery with a precursor in a chest.. good luck with that).
I’ve seen a few people talk about getting hacked now with them getting a reply that no one other than the normal IP address had accessed the account. First thing I was thought of was IP spoofing. It’s not an easy thing to do, but hackers have been known to use this technique to bypass authentication procedures. Getting a players IP would be easy, especially if their email account is compromised. I know GMail keeps a list of IPs that access an account. Just something I think the security team may want to check into.
IP spoofing is one way but taking control of another machine is the easiest. There are quite a few windows based “tools” out there that allow this. They infect you via website or attachment and then have their way with your machine. I will not name them or link to them; don’t feel like getting banned from the forums. But they are easy enough to use.
As always, keeping your windows updated, keeping your browser updated and running a decent anti-virus can help. Using strong unique passwords for all your services is essential too. Personally, I use my machine for gaming only. I have a virtual machine for browsing the web and downloading. I never get hacked. But you don’t need to be as paranoid as I.

I also agree with the OP. There shouldn’t be a stat based progression; it should be purely skill based. Rewards should be cosmetic like armor skins and titles.
FYI, the culling bug also ruins any large scale world event.
Until they fix the CULLING ISSUE, any large scale event is unplayable. You basically spam AoE, watch people around you disappear and hope something hits a karka.. still don’t even know what they look like…
Perhaps there should be a client side option “slider” to determine how much bandwidth we can use for the game. Some of us are sitting on very high end systems. Its rather lame that we facing the same limitations as someone on a 56k modem.
It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.
These threads are created after every patch.
Schedule it on a crappy gaming day, like Monday.
Nothing kills a WvW match faster than a mass kick… Seriously, we just lost the whole map to the other server within 5 mins thanks to this ninja patch. And for what? Because unidentified dye dropped from 4 silver to 3.34 silver
I gotta say, I would never have found the Mad King’s Memories books without the wiki page. That quest had old-school Everquest-style hints that you’re probably not going to understand unless you’ve explored every inch of the world, remembered where every NPC is, and remembered their back story. I know many self-proclaimed know-it-alls will argue with me about this until that vein pops in their forehead, but for the average person, those clues were wicked vague. I just don’t think you should have to read a wiki page to figure a quest out.
That’s blowing it completely out of proportion. The clues are only a little tricky and lead you to places that are barely out of Lion’s Arch or the low-level zones of Kryta. Not everyone likes puzzles, but for the clues to have been any simpler they would have just had to be straightforward directions. The final clue even tells you the proper name of the place you’re supposed to go.
As a matter of fact, the device you use has an indicator that tells you if you’re hot warm or cold. Just running around with it enabled allows you to zero in on the area you need to be. The only tricky part is the Z axis…
Maybe he traded the candy for trick or treat bags and found one inside?
Works now all of a sudden.. eh?
uh oh, I got a bad baaad feelin’
I tried divinity’s reach.. same dealio
Uh oh, trapped in the lions arch loading screen >_>

Tangent alert
At an Irish wedding reception someone yelled ….
“Would all the married men,
please stand next to the one person
who has made your life worth living”
The bartender was almost crushed to death.
Working now…
And to the impatient kiddies complaining I say: though.
