I really think they’d save themselves a lot of bother if they’d just announce update dates properly.
28th US
29th EU
29th AUS / Asia. It’s not hard is it? It’s just a couple of seconds extra typing. Gotta laugh at the Americans saying “oh it’s obvious that it’s catered for us” – showing their typical total ignorance of the rest of the world.
And the rest of the world showing their typical inability or unwillingness to perform logic surrounding something like timezones and the physical location of anet’s offices. (It’s why the USA is still #1)
Why is it that you think the EU doesn’t have different timezones?
Again, it even states on the EU VERSIONS OF THE GUILD WARS 2 PAGES that launch is the 28th. THESE ARE PAGES SPECIFIC TO THE EU.
So we should expect it on the 28th because our own pages have that information correct?
If you are so concenerned that all but exactly 1 possible 24 hour span will have 2 calandar dates associated with it, and you see an announcement that mentions only a single day, there are only 2 plausible conclusions – they’re locking themselves to GMT or they are using the clock right there in the office with them.
Now, lets rub that teeny, tiny bit of logic against previous experience.
Yeah.
That was hard.
Global means that dates should apply to everyone – if they don’t they should be corrected to reflect that.
It’s not easy for Americans to get that, I know.
The brilliant minds at ANet are currently working on a patch that will alter the Time/Space Continuum so that the same date happens for everyone around the world simultaneously.
This new technology will launch when it’s ready.
Again, please stop being conceited.
Either that or try reading the contents of people’s posts, if it’s within your ability.
Ok now you’re just getting upset. I am on your side about ANET posting the correct times, but Karizee was just poking a little harmless fun, and frankly I thought it was amusing.
I actually quoted the wrong post
The basic problem is that on all EU localisation sites it says 28th January, without qualification.
Obviously if they know it’s going to actually launch on the 29th in this region (and AUS / Asia) then they should actually take the effort to keep the other 3/4 of the world properly informed.

Look, it’s a global game.
So. What?
No, really. So. What?
If they have a release advertised at 28th January with no qualifying arguments, then that kinda infers that it will be released at some point on the 28th of January for everyone that can read the announcement.

I really don’t see why it’s such a hard concept to grasp.

What some people don’t seem to understand is that on the official french, german and spanish parts of the website/forums it’s stated that it comes on the 28th, without specifying anything else. However, as many posters have already said, I don’t expect the patch/event to be deployed until the dailies reset, and what’s worse is that I think that’s the plan that Anet has had all along. That would make it arrive on the 29th for 3/4 of the world, and I think that that’s the problem: their lack of proper care/communication, not when they actually deploy the patch.
You can’t expect players to “imagine” that something won’t happen at a specified date on their localized websites if it’s not stated otherwise.
Haven’t ALL other patch dates and times ALWAYS been announced in terms of PST where the company is based? If you haven’t figured it out after 4 months of patches, I’d say at this point, you’re kinda dense.
The only specific time they released was Lost Shores. Other updates just happen when they happen, but they’ve always had a date attached and it’s sometimes been the same day across the globe and sometimes it’s drifted into the next day for most of it – hence this thread.
Sigh.
Look, if you’re not up to par with technical stuff, don’t attempt to help in a tech support forum, please?
except that the os has been out for months and is fully supported by both companies.
Video drivers are fine in 8, don’t listen to guy above. Windows 8 also uses practically the same kernel as 7 so there wouldn’t be any compatibility issues with the OS (as many people play GW2 on it without problem).
When you installed the driver update, did you go to advanced and remove the previous drivers first? Not doing so could create problems like you’re describing. If not, uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the latest ones again.
If that doesn’t help, download HWINFO and use it to monitor the temperatures of your new card.
I noticed from your DXDIAG that you have 4GB of RAM but you’ve installed 32bit Windows 8 – you can’t use all of your RAM and that won’t help performance at all. I’d recommend doing a clean install with 64bit.
The other possibility after that is, barring any conflicting programs running in the background (badly configured SweetFX?) is that the GPU is damaged and needs to be replaced.
It is currently 7am PST on the 28th which means the patch will launch sometime in the next 17 hours.
I will post periodic updates for people that do not understand time zones
Listen, stop being conceited.
It’s not about people not understanding timezones, it’s about announcing to a global (please understand this includes places outside of the USA) audience than an update will happen on the 28th when it in fact won’t.
The problem is that people need to understand that Anet’s times are based on PST which is the server’s time. But people assume that the time they say is according to the time zone they live. So the moment it hits 12 am on the 28th wherever they live they expect the patch out at that moment.
Meaning that for the patch to hit exactly the instant it hits the 28th on the planet earth, Anet would have to be in their office working at 10am on sunday.
I understand that fine.
What I don’t understand is what’s so hard about typing “28th Jan USA, 29th everywhere else”
Rather than “28th of Jan”.
Understand?

My main toon has been level 80 for just over a month.
Every day I do my daily events and crafting material gathering, swapping between cursed shore, malkor’s and frostgorge.
This character has never found an exotic item. I have taken part in temple clearances multiple times. I’ve opened many high level chests. When I use food to increase magic find, I only get whites and porous bones. As soon as the food runs out, I start getting blues and greens.
I have two monitors. GW2 obviously can’t make much use of 2 monitors, however I came across a thread on Reddit;
well…although it’s not the same…there are programs out there that can mirror a screen region and enlarge them. people usually use it in dota or lol to help increase map awareness. there aren’t that many practical uses for it in gw2, except it’s great for when you’re alt-tabbed while in wvw but you want to keep an eye on the map/chat on an auxiliary screen
http://imgur.com/y3V3D&Dhy15#0
edit: the name of the program is OnTopReplica
. Here’s the thread on /r/dota2 about it
Would using such a tool lead to a banning?
For those who can’t / don’t want to visit the link, there’s a little utility that will copy an area of one monitor and display it in a bigger size on the second monitor. So it would take the minimap in the corner of screen one, and enlarge it on screen two (obviously it can’t change shape of the copied area).
I have no issue with the rooting of players with the autoattack if that’s a design decision and they want to stick to it.
However, it needs to not effect the reaction time of skills 2 and 3. If you’re going to take away the ability to dodge that other professions have, then skills 2 and 3 need to be instant, and not have a delay if you press it at the end of the skill 1 attacks.
Sometimes the reaction time is close to a second, which makes it hard to dodge anything at all.
That’s rubbish too.
The problem is that it takes far too long to get to events because all of the waypoints in a zone are contested.
Why is it against the lore? If all of the waypoints are contested, why doesn’t someone set up a secondary? You still lose access to the merchants, karma vendors and whatnot, just put a waypoint somewhere reasonably close by rather than forcing players to start at the other side of the map and miss timed events that only happen once or twice a day.
It’s not a big ask, and it’s certainly not the game breaking catastrophe that you’re making it out to be.
But mobs respawning the instant you kill another one, and it going on infinitely?
If that’s by design it’s just bad.
You seem to assume a lot from my post about me playing alone and grinding Orr constantly, neither of which I do.
Ergo the rest of your post is pretty much off the mark.
The big problem with Orr is that the respawn times are far too fast. I don’t understand why it hasn’t been fixed yet. There are still several places where a mob spawns the instant that you kill the previous one.
Most of Orr seems to have a respawn timer of ~20 to 30 seconds which is just daft.
The world event has only reinforced this idea in my mind. What was previously an annoyance made it pretty much impossible for me and quite a few others to take part in the event.
In a game that is supposed to be a lot less about making players struggle to enjoy themselves, nothing is more annoying than the idea of having contested waypoints. In the event finale today, I got there late. I tried to get somewhere near to where the event was on the island but I couldn’t get. I had to start from the very top of the island near the boats. To make matters worse, at one point I died (while lagging very badly) and was defeated. I guess most of the other players didn’t see me because I was there (along with a couple of others) defeated while we watched the zerg run off to the otherside of the map to take part in the next part of the event. No problem right? get the nearest waypoint. Oh look, they’re all contested. Some of the overflow servers didn’t even have all of the waypoints set up yet. Start from the boat and try, once again, to get past all of the mobs, waste another 10 minutes and struggle to catch up with the rest of the zerg.
The problem with this of course is that nearly everyone who is on the map is at the event at the other end of the island, leaving a few stragglers attempting to pick their way through the giant karka’s, veterens and other mobs that are cramming the rest of the map. Needless to say, it took a few attempts before we could get anywhere near the main force.
Of course, this issue is annoying in other areas, most notably the high-end areas on Orr. The main problem I have here is most of the time the temples will be under Orrian control. Fine. But what’s not fine is that when the event starts, you invariably have to start running from one of the most distant waypoints on the map because all of the camps are also constantly under attack and contested. Result? You spend 15 minutes trying to pick your way through Orr, with it’s mobs that pull you back when you run past them, and you get to the event just in time to see it finish and before you can contribute enough to get a reward.
If they want camps to be contested, that’s fine. Take the vendors away. But if a waypoint is to be locked, then a temporary one should be put up somewhere in the vicinity so that players who aren’t in the immediate area of an event aren’t punished for not being in the right place at the right time.
I have to say, while I’m not thrilled that another tier has been added, I’m not going to join the minority in jumping to wild conclusions based on an update done 3 months after release.
If they add a new tier to the armour level on a regular basis, then I’ll join people in being annoyed. If, however, we are three years down the line and only two tiers have been added to the game, then I’ll be pleased. This is how it was in Guild Wars 1 (sort of, they massively improved the armour system with one the expansions).
Quite frankly, if you think there was never going to be any sort of item progression added in content patches for the entire lifespan of the game, you’re being a bit naive.
I think, more than anything, the timing of the new tier has caused more problems than the tier itself. If they’d have added this after a year, I’m sure the reaction to it would have been much less of a.. panic / hissy fit.
Also frankly, we should be pleased that they’re adding this for everyone in a free update. This is normally the sort of stuff that gets added to expansions.. paid expansions.
Yea, they managed to complete it but it was after I had logged off after the third attempt.
I don’t know what they did differently, I’ll try and find out.
It’s been almost two weeks since anyone was able to open the gates of Arah. The final chain in the event is bugged so that it is impossible to kill enough Risen to complete the event.
The problem is either that they don’t spawn correctly, or the progress bar is stuck.
But it’s a joke now. Almost two weeks!

Looks nice, only problem is that on my GTX670, when rotating the camera, FPS actually drops to 2!
That obviously didn’t happen before.
Computer freezing with a very small loop of sound?
The two I listed pretty much cover 99% of the cases I’ve dealt with.
Roll back the drivers, then.
latest drivers have been fine for me.

Yea, they’re more than suitable. They even cope well with moderate overclocking.
There’s two things that cause that;
audio drivers or the beginnings of bad memory.

Not every single texture is loaded into memory.
I have a 670 and have no FPS issues, as I’ve stated many times. It’s only the minority who have these issues.

If you’re still getting it and you have Realtek, try disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS.
If you don’t have a GPU with hdmi out, then you’ll lose sound. But it will be definite answer as to whether or not the Realtek drivers are the problem.
What resolution is your screen? If it’s 1920×1080, turn off AA in the game options.
Also turn off reflections and shadows, as well high res character textures.

What is being done about AMD CPU performance?

The performance per dollar ratio of what you’re getting, looking at those two processors in the post above is heavily in favour of Intel.
(edited by ZaxanRazor.6235)
The first thing to try – completely remove your Nvidia drivers and install the latest ones from scratch.
From what you’re describing, the graphics driver is crashing for one reason or another – this is especially indicated by the screen going black and sometimes recovering and the Nvidia kernel error.
@Sporeo – does your motherboard have Realtek Audio? Make sure the drivers are up to date for that, because they are notorious for conflicting with Nvidia drivers. If you want to rule it out for certain, use the HDMI from your GPU for sound, and disable onboard Audio in BIOS.
The good thing is that it doesn’t look like artifacting – it really just looks like some textures are not loading / displaying properly.
If the latest drivers don’t solve it, can you think of any updates or programs you’ve installed since the issue started?
I don’t think it was caused by the last patch to the game purely because I haven’t seen anyone else with the same issue.

Some people were far too rude, but that does not mean you should discount the opinions of those who have been polite.
And to answer the question – no, not really. Your GPU will struggle on most settings.
eiksto – what happens if you set the target framerate in precision to 60FPS?
Constant crashing is not the game’s fault on its own otherwise it would be happening to everyone.
In the case of Simayi it’s a problem with his GPU – so Cailais, you need to be a bit more specific – what sort of crashes are you getting?
At the moment it does seem like the racial elites are better than some of the profession elites.
I agree with the poster who made the point about solo PvE – a lot of the elites do seem to cater more towards the PvP side of things.
600 series GPUs are fine for most people, it’s just the minority. Indicating that it’s not necessarily the game.

I wonder if you guys have this problem more when the world is quite busy? Could it be lag related?
The SSDs do help increase the texture loading times in games, which can get rid of some of the stuttering you encounter sometimes in wide open spaces.
It would be a worthwhile upgrade, imo.

Please OP, get your money back. It’s insane if you paid over $2000 for that, absolutely insane. It’s barely worth a quarter of what you paid.
Where did you buy it from?
I suggest running the game with the -repair switch in the shortcut target. It looks like some textures have become corrupted.
Well, “son”, you once again fail to grasp the basic point.
The basic point being that each game is unique and each game will have it’s own conflicts that can easily be rectified at your end. Especially in cases where the issue is not affecting everyone.
I suggest that you either ask for help properly or stop posting. I’m reporting you for trolling, as it is.
Yea, exactly. So he’d probably be better off buying a 128GB SSD and leaving the old HDD in for storage.
If he wants to buy a replacement HDD he’ll get less performance and spend the same, if not more money.
